Hi, i just upgraded from moto X 2013 to moto X Play. Screen is a huge different. i feel it a bit bright and color is a bit dull, not as vibrant as on my 2013 moto X. Is it a problem ? should i take it back to the manufacturer ? Is IPS LCD screen on moto X Style the same if i switch to X Style .
Did you try changing the display settings to ambient display

There's only two options under "Colour Mode" (in display settings) 1.Regular 2.Vibrant
If that doesn't work then your out of luck as far as settings go.
Personally I hate the Samsung over exaggerated colours that they pass off with their OS as being lifelike but each to his own.

Does this device have active display ala all other Moto X Models ???
Yes it does
I really like Active Display in 1st and 2nd generation of Moto X, but it looks like Play wouldn't have OLED screen. However, I'm not 100% sure - Motorola provided info about screen technology for X Style and it's TFT LCD, for X Play it only says that it's 5.5" FHD screen, covered with Gorilla Glass 3. It'd be strange if Motorola has used better screen technology and additional feature in cheaper phone (even considering Play's lower resolution). On several Play hands-on videos I've seen Moto Assist app and Display section, but no one was intelligent enough to check it - probably in their opinion Assist's redundant feature of "quiet hours" is more worth checking out. If someone had any sign of life from Active Display on Moto Play/Style in form of video or at least image, I'd really appreciate to look at it.
Nevertheless, abandonment of Active Display would make Motorola less distinctive - at least they've attached their contextual coprocessors and considering there are other ways of displaying data on LCDs, without waking backlight layer (like in Sony Smartwatch) that'd make sense.

There's plenty of videos on youtube showing Active display on both Moto X play and style. Motorola even showed it during the presentation. Screen technology is not a deal breaker, since both Moto E 2015 and Moto G 2015 have active display, even trough they have LCD.

You're right, there it is: https://youtu.be/NQvKGJpyKTY?t=44s
The Moxo X Play has active display, but its absolutely useless because it doesn't breathe (repeats), it shows notifications only once.
How bright is the display in comparison to the Moto X 2014? I've read quite a few reviews and some say the Style isn't as bright as the old model? Anyone also been able to compare the display brightness to the Moto X Play? I have a X Play and find it very good in bright sunlight as it seems go very bright. More so in comparison to the old 2014 X which I found quite dim and difficult to see on bright days. Thanks.
I had the 2014 Moto X, live in South Africa (sunny as hell) and from my experience the new Style is definitely better in direct sunlight. I've not seen the Play yet though.

Ok, thanks.
Hello all,
Would the Moto X Style be a good upgrade from my current Motorola Nexus 6, or would it be pretty much a wash?
Much thanks.
I had a Nexus 6 (dropped it, screen shattered) and got x style now. I'd say keep the Nexus. Dev community is much bigger. Screen too . Of course the style/pure is a nice device, and dev activity is picking up. It fits better in the pants too
Thanks, I'll stick with the Nexus for a while
In my oppinion amoled colors are too punchy and white is too cold.
Moto X is a little bit faster when opening apps. Tested side by side.
only if you need better camera
I actually kind of like Moto Display, but I found the following interesting post on the Moto X Pure forum, and it also works on our Droid Turbo 2 models to allow use of Marshmallow's Ambient Display implementation if you prefer it to Motorola's Moto Display feature.
No root required!

Basically, you go to the app manager in settings, make sure the menu option to show system apps is enabled, scroll down to the Moto Display app and disable it.
After doing this, the option to turn on Ambient Display will appear in the settings under the Display category.
This worked perfectly on my Droid Turbo 2 running Marshmallow.

You can also do this in the Moto app

Ambient display drains battery on mine and is too dark indoors.
Hi guys,
I just came from Droid Maxx XT1080M (I know, right?), and I remember that Active Display used only few pixels on AMOLED for notifications, but IPS panel does not have this capability.
I'm just wondering why do we still have this low battery usage app, if it's using whole display.
Sorry for my English. Thanks for answers!

I dont think moto display consumes too much battery, but if you dont want to use it there is an option to turn it off.
