ROM suggestion for Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings,
I have recently purchased my wife a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7" tablet (model SM-T230NU). We are pretty happy with the tablet however I would love to get rid of all the bloat that Samsung adds into the OS.
Years ago I installed a custom ROM on a ASUS tablet that not only upgraded the OS to a more recent Android release, but also was clean stock android install. I am interested in a recommendation for a stable
Android ROM for the Galaxy Tab where I am not loosing any functionality. The Galaxy Tab ships with Android version 4.4.2. I'd also be interested in going to Lollipop or Marshmallow if there is a stable version available.
Appreciate any recommendations!
Cheers,
Torbuck

Hi,
My Tab4 SM-T230NU is only booting up to the Tab4 screen and just hangs there.. I downloaded the Acheron rom and a few others as well to try to get this working again.. I have installed the latest Odin software and the USB drivers, but can't seem to figure out how to go about installing the Rom using this. I also tried the Kies software, and it tries to connect to it, but never does, so that's out.. I also can't get it to go to "recovery" mode using the pwr,vol up,Home buttons, but it does go into the "download" mode.. There's no way for me to turn on USB Debugging in the developer options, so can I still install this rom using Odin? Thanks for any assistance.

Why do none of ROMs work anymore especially for SM-T530NU?

This is still a damn good tablet yet every Rom I try and flash beyond 3.2 Blisspop fails. They just hang at the Samsung boot screen.
People leave their topics with no caution to anyone. It's no wonder the people I directed here no longer message me.

You might have to reflash stock and start over. I, as an example, am running 7.1.1 on my 530NU and I just flashed stock just for the fun of it. In the past 4 hours, I've successfully flashed stock twice and 3 custom Roms. Flash stock through Odin and flash Dirty Unicorn or CrDroid. Both of them are running like clocks on the 530NU.
Sorry but I'm a huge Noob and really need some help. Can I use a Samsung S7 in place of a computer to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 SM-T530NU? ( Android version 5.0.2 ; Kernel version 3.4.0-10845349 [email protected]#1 ; Build number LRX22G. T530NUUEU1BQC1 ) The phone is brand new and I want to start with the tablet first, thank you.

In my experience, it's often more stable to root the stock firmware and then remove the bloatware (using Titanium Backup or Link2SD). That way you have a rom that's tailored for the device and you don't have issues like the camera not working on custom roms, certain video codecs that aren't supported, ...
Unless there's an official CyanogenMod or LineageOS for the device.

That is what I want, but can't seem to get it done. The newest Magisk is not working. Older versions aren't. Anyone got it done? Just need root to get storage rights for external SD for Syncthing..
ok, got root working now. used the "old" way, supersu, for an old ROM..

Should I upgrade my I9505 from 4.3 to 4.4.2 or something newer?

Hi all,
I have a Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 with 4.3 Jellybean rooted from stock.
I want to update the OS because of having the advantage accessing newer apps.
The auto update function comes up with a 4.4.2 KitKat. Should I choose this or something newer?
It is 2018 and not 2015 and the android development will positevely affect this device too.
Thanks in advance.
Flash the latest stock 5.01 rom using Odin.

Latest stock is not too bad but it may struggle if you have more apps opened and all. the best bet is to use cyanogen mod either 13 or 14 but it may not fit your likings because of the style
Thank you for the info.
I will check both options.
Will I have to root again after the update?
UPDATE!!!!
I was handed a S4 a year ago and flashed LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1) and it runs smooth as silk and slick as snot. These companies stop updating to pin you into buying new fones. Follow the guides, first get TWRP recovery up and running then you can get Lineage OS installed. Lots of guides out there. KK isnt even sufficient for a kids tablet these days. Better my suggestion, you'll have 7.1 Nougat and something that can hang on a few more YEARS.

My S4 GT-I9505 is the International version, JSS15J.I9505XXUENAA.
Is there a guide to safely flash the LineageOS 14.1?
Do I need to install the TWRP recovery first?
My knowledge is average on flashing Android phones, but I learn fast
Don't wanna brick it though...

1) Backup all data to external source.
2) Download and copy LineageOS rom, Open_Gaaps_ARM_7.1 and su(arm)_14.1 to MicroSD (see the links below).
3) Flash TWRP to RECOVERY from PC via USB (see the link below).
4) Boot to RECOVERY and Advance Wipe everything on the phone from TWRP.
5) Flash everything from the MicroSD in step2 with the same order and reboot.
* The only issue with LineageOS for S4 (and probably all Samsung models) is that the camera is prone to crash because the camera software is reverse engineered. When it does, you have to reboot the phone. Good luck and have fun.

[SM-P600] What ROM are you guys using, suggestions?

I'm trying to use my tablet more, which I haven't because it gets hot in the back and the charger is slow to charge the battery... I thought of seeing if there's a decent alternative ROM.
Currently I'm on LOS 14.1 (2018-12-23) - any suggestions?

Charging is fast as long as you use the original charging adapter...
On the deathly build you can set the charging current with the included app "Deathly Auditor" (customized Kernel Auditor).
it drains the battery very fast! is there another better Rom that you recommend?
Here is a highly regarded custom ROM for the Note 10.1 2014: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...om-resurrection-remix-n-sm-p600-wifi-t3606313
I been flashing my sm-600 wifi for 5 years now, here is what I experienced. I have tried all roms for my device and it seems no custom rom charges as fast as the lastest stock roms even though it's 5.1. the nougat roms and the couple marshmallow roms all charge very slowly. I have tried different cables and chargers and even a new battery only to find out that it was the roms. I used Accu battery to finally figure that out. So stick with stock, all apps and Samsung browser work just fine and it will charge in half the time with a 2.0 charger. I also removed all Google apps and download and upgrade my apps though apkmirror and all work just fine with stock rom, I hope this helps.

There’s LineageOS 14.1, 17.1, and 18.1, all available in the device forums.
My SM-P600 is currently running an old version of LOS (14.1-20200411). It seems stable, but I'm wondering if it's still worth an update - would I likely see any improvement? Or, am I better sticking with the old; if it ain't broke, don't fix it?
What would be the most stable rom and build? Looking through the Dev threads, it looks like some of the LOS 18.1 aren't too stable, but I'd rather stability and battery life over more recent Android.

In 2023, if someone is still using this tablet like me, I recommend the Android 10 version. It works best when very few apps are installed and can run most apps in the playstore.

Hey body, how were you able to install the android 10 in this piece of art of tablet. I'm still using it and it´s amaze. But I'm using the 7.1 .
I've been using LineageOS 14 for a while, and it has pros and cons:
Pros: better battery performance, Android 11 with updated features and apk versions, no more forced to keep installed ****ty OEM's software.
Cons: at least 1 random crash per day, S-Pen didn't work as smooth as with the original firmware (probably due to some Samsung S-Pen framework), I only managed to take notes on PDFs buying Squid (no Write on PDF available) and palm rejection didn't work anyway.
Since last Sunday (June 11th) WiFi and Home button had stopped working, so I decided to go back to the official 5.1.1 firmware. Now everything works again, and I can again edit PDFs with S-Pen and its palm rejection (which I missed so much).
I will continue using 5.1.1 unless somebody can guarantee that there is any Lineage build in which S-Pen works with as much quality as in the official firmware.

Which version and ROM of Android would you recommend for a P605?

I turned on my Note 2014 10.1 today for the first time in, apparently, over a year. And it still had over 90% battery charge on it after all that time. Impressive. It has root access and I'm running version 5.1.1 of Android on it. But I figure there's a newer stable version out by now that I could update the device to. But which one is the most stable, good on battery usage and performance, and with the best features?
Also, I've never used a custom modded ROM before, and I don't have any particular interest in doing abnormal things. So, unless they would offer some performance / power / security / feature or usability advantage, I probably don't need one.
Which ROM would you install to a Note 2014 P605 today?
One ROM I've looked at is this port of Android 6.0.1 - reported to be stable and good for daily use:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-2014/development/rom-android-6-marshmallow-t3254901
I notice there are ROMs of Android 7 and 8, but I don't know if any of them very stable, with good performance, issue-free.
I'd love to know too.. Also is there a ROM that enables smooth playback of h265 videos?
Thanks
Nothing is as stable as a stock rom. And instead of the basic AOSP 6 you can as well stay with Touchwiz 5.0.
Or install LOS14/16/17, all several generations ahead.
My P605 is running rock solid with LOS 14.1 Nougat by @davidmueller13.
Unless you definitely need the s-pen functions (which can be bought as an app afaik) I recommend switching to a new ROM to get newer safety patch levels.
And David's best supported rom is the old Los 14.1.
I'm torn in between going back from Los16 and waiting for an update to the Los17(alpha) from early this year.
S-Pen works in third-party and Samsung apps available in Playstore and you can use it system- wide instead of your finger. Not more.
i need help i can't find the OEM option in the developer mode in my samsung 10.1 2014 i tried fastboot method and i was stuck on waiting for any device i need to be able to install twrp i have tried odin with no success . any suggestion pls
You can't unlock the bootloader?
That's not possible with some P605s with provider branding.
One major hurdle when attaching the device to a pc can be overcome by invoking Fastboot at power - on and then attaching the phone, instead of establishing an ADB connection which will require a reboot into Fastboot mode later on.
Good evening. I am completely new to modded rom installations. Is there perhaps a step by step guide on hoe to install the LOS Roms to my device?
Thanks
