Not everybody knows that one of the best features in Marshmallow is auto backup. If app supports API 23 it's setting should be stored in Google Drive and restored automatically after full wipe or buying new phone with Android 6.0/onboard. More information about this feature in this article:
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015...kup-for-apps-perfect-data-backup-for-the-1-5/
Anybody here tried this feature? I tried but it's behaviour is strange. Instagram which according to article supports feature didn't restore its settings. From my apps were restored only Alreader, Balance BY and partially Parcelle (tracking parcels). The last app restored 3 of 5 current trackings. May be someone has more experience with that? It's pity that there is no app that shows list of installed apps that definitely supports Auto backup.

Well i flashed stock 5.1 ret.de then got ota for android 6.0 and it restored all apps as per the article. It did not update app data, but it restored all my apps configurations, wallpapers and launcher icons and widgets. Awesome feature i might say. It saved me from hours from restoring...
I think that this is on since 5.0

No. There was only ability to restore apps but without settings.
I didn't get what the difference between app data and settings?
The last time I restored with Lollipop, it loaded my apps, my login info for all of my accounts, Nova launcher and its settings, self made Zooper Widgets, and icon packs. How is that different than what you are talking about?
It is strange. My phone loaded only few logins. Most of them wasn't restored

None of my settings came over when I had to factory reset my phone. Looks like it doesn't work very well.

Just picked up my Galaxy S3 today on the Sprint network. I'm trying to change the owner information displayed on my lock screen. Whenever I launch the Owner Information section under the settings/security menu, the phone goes to a black screen and then comes back stating "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped."
Has anyone else noticed or experienced this, or can you replicate the issue?
Thanks.

I've got the same problem. No Idea what could help. Did you find anything out?
Nope, mine works fine
Same problem. The last time I had the same problem with language and input and I noticed it happened because I had disabled s voice. This time I don't know what is causing the issue. Some app might be coming in the way. I have avast anti theft installed so that may be causing the problem. Not sure.
Which carrier do you have? I have Sprint, and my owner information works fine.
Unlocked international version.
I finally made a factory reset and then selected NOT to restore from my Google account. Then it worked fine. I only had to do the settings again. The user apps I could restore with Titanium Backup.
Everything OK now.
I don't wanna reset my phone. There has got to be another way.
So strange that something like owner info would crash. I've reset my phone 3 times in a week and had no problems with it.

Interesting...glad you worked it out but in contrast, I always restore from Google and my owner info works fine. But stranger things have happened. I lost copy/paste after rooting, ended up flashing the stock AT&T rom that's rooted and deodexed and all has been well ever since. Go figure
I think there's a bug (either by Samsung or by Google) when restoring from the Google account. When I select to restore from the Google Account my S3 takes the data from my tablet and I suppose that it cannot handle the information I stored in the owner information of the tablet.
I am pretty sure, all of us who are having this problem have something in common. Some app in all probability cause it does not seem to be a very common problem.
I have the following apps: Ad Network Detector

Spot any common apps apart from the pre-installed apps?
Ever since I moved to Jelly Bean I faced the problem that some widgets always disappear whenever I reboot my phone (in my case it was Beautifule Widgets and Pure Calendar). Today I got an email from the developer of Pure Calendar Widget containing a link to this article. I tried it and since then my widget don't disappear again.
To summarize the article:
Create a backup of the app which contains the widget in Titanium Backup
Uninstall the app using Titanium Backup
restore it with Titanium Backup
This is a known workaround but you need Titanium Backup and it only works on rooted devices.
Join the "spur Google to release a fix" party: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34880
I believe that Google hires competent people... why didn't a team of competent developers release a fix after more than 2 weeks? I think many people on this forum could fix it in 2 hours, not weeks.
I thought it was a problem with Beautiful Widgets first because I only had this problem with that first. Then after some tests Pure Calendar Widgets made problems too.
I only learned of that workaround today by that email I received. But I already starred that issue too
Just so everyone knows, the free version has this functionality so no need to purchase the paid app unless you want.

Read comment #54 and comment #57, I think that the Google fix will only partially fix the issue, it looks like they still don't fully understand the problem. Google is a disappointment.
Does not work with AmazingText widgets...
I got my nexus 7 recently and seems to have the battery drain issue. I monitored the apps running and all that. Adjusted settings according to some of the threads I've read.
I wanted to reset my N7 and don't plan on rooting it yet. However, I've spent hours downloading apps, placing icons and widgets where I like them on my screen. I also created google chrome website via link icons on my screens to quickly access my favorite websites.
Is there a App on the play store that will restore the apps, settings, wallpaper, icons and widgets?
So far I see there's titanium and nandroid (requires root) and mybackup (without root).
*I was happy to get rid of all my apple products but only miss the restore function

Under settings go to Backup and Reset. Make sure Back up my Data and Automatic Restore are selected. It will save your settings and a list of your apps on Google's servers. When you re-setup your Google account your apps will automatically re-download and install.
You can use wug's nexus root toolkit, take a full apps backup with data and shared folder. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475

On non-rooted only! Not interested in rooting.
Is there anything (samsung, carrier, google play app) that can move all the settings from an identical phone to another.
Must be like 400 settings I changed and then it seems like every app needs to be tweaked and have the account info put in again.
I mean yeah, photos, contacts, apps all come back down but ...WOW still a lot left to do, I spent hours doing it manually.

you could try mybackup pro
My backup pro don't work without root. Without root you can only backup apps, but no data and setting from the app.
Only HELIUM works without root!

Thanks
From the play verbiage it look like "MyBackup and MyBackup Pro will work on all Android mobile devices, regardless if they have root access or not."
I will try it.
I tried Helium and seems to work but seems it is only app settings and data - no system settings. Although, I haven't tried a restore yet so who knows if it really works but it backed up.
Thanks

Of course will work MyBackup on all devices, but the App - Data Backup need root.
Maybe you should use booth
Helium is good for Backup Apps including App-Data

Both is the conclusion I came to.
My Backup for system settings
Helium for app settings.
But unless someone knows for sure I wont find out if that is a successful strategy till I am forced to.
Hi there!
I've put together a spreadsheet of apps that are (or so far seem) safe to remove from the Nexus 5. Note that I am running 4.4 KitKat, which has been unlocked with TWRP and rooted. The spreadsheet comes from the combined efforts of hallstevenson's spreadsheet on the Galaxy S3 for Spring (which I adapted and updated for the Verizon version), and referencing MoJo's script for removing Nexus 5 bloatware. I used Titanium Backup to go through and type in the packages and APK names.
CLICK HERE FOR ACCESS TO THE SPREADSHEET [GOOGLE DOCS]
Click the "5.1" tab.
If you have questions, comments, suggestions, concerns, or want to tell me exactly where I'm wrong about something, please leave a comment here! If such a list already exists, I couldn't find it through searching. And if I'm in the wrong category, I apologize; seeing MoJo's script here led me to think this would be the appropriate place.
**UPDATE FOR LOLLIPOP 5.1**
Here are the apps I've personally removed, if anyone is interested (this list changes with each update):

Updated for Lollipop!
I'm back with an update! You can use the same link above. Note that this time I've added a tab for Android 5.0 Lollipop. (There's also a tab for what I believe is 4.4.4, which I started and didn't finish... Sorry!) Again, I'm on a stock ROM from Google's firmware page, and I used Titanium Backup (v 6.2.0) to go through this list. I had a couple of app updates after flashing the new ROM, so the version numbers might not quite match up. As usual, let me know if there are any issues, or if you've figured out if an app can be removed that I've left blank. If you're going to be adventurous, it's best to freeze an app and test rather than delete it, and make a backup before you delete.
Enjoy!

Can we get rid of Google+ and still be able to have a photo gallery?
I tried freezing it and I couldn't access my photos because I had to enable Google+.

Not sure. I'd think the Photos app would still work, but maybe not. I actually use Google+ on a constant basis so I haven't removed the app.
You deactivated the exchange services, so do you get any emails with auto synchronisation ? Or are the exchange services only for the E-Mail app, which isnt working on L anymore?

I removed the email exchange services because I do not use them. I strictly use the GMail app. I imagine they still work fine!

Bump for 5.0.1 update (see original post)
Hey, I am a tad bit confused here..
I currently have two Exchange Services.
1) com.google.android.gm.exchange
(ver. 6.5-1520254)
2) com.android.exchange
(ver. 4.4.4-6936)
I'm sure the second one is the one I can delete but was just unsure about the first one.

The first one is the one I have marked as safe to delete. I don't know what the second is, maybe something left over from KitKat? Try freezing them with TitaniumBackup and reboot, see if they give you any issues. If they don't, make backups and remove them.

Okay, I didn't think this would have much to do with it but I am using Slimkat 4.4.4, so I didn't think to look in the 5.0 tab. I shall see what happens when I freeze the other EServices.
Thanks for the reply.
Edit: Well, I have backed-up both Exchange Services and removed them both and nothing seems to have changed *Shrugs* Ahh well.

Well, generally speaking, you should be looking in the tab for your current Android version. (Or as close as your custom ROM gets.) The list is based on a fresh install of the ROM, so if your apps have updated since, they'll show different version numbers and possibly different locations, too. Something I didn't think to include in my post, sorry!

Well I flashed the ROM last week, so anything could have updated. Anyway, thanks for the help. I just wanted to have an opinion on the random system app first before I went ahead and removed it.

The first works with gmail exchange second is for email app exchange. Should be no issue deleting both. I use 1 and delete 2.
Do not remove g+ on lolipop if you want photos to work. They are linked
