Is any of the note 5 ports a solid daily runner? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had bad experience with ports in the past, both on my note 3 and my old htc desire. Something was always broken. People say that they don't have any bugs and all features are working, but that was never the case in real life usage.
So, how well to all these note 5 ports perform? Be honest please.

Smokkie note 5 works.. It's been stripped down and works like a dream

Depending on what you need for daily use I guess, I tried out a couple of ROMs and have settled for the Phronesis ROM, in my experience there will always be minor bugs in custom ROMs that get fixed eventually or at least quicker than any update you get from Samsung but for the most they are still more functional that what you came from stock

[Q] CM 12 and S pen

I was hoping someone could help me out here, I'm a HTC guy and I recently decided to give the Note 3 a try because it seems more useful for my job. The thing is i never use phone with the stock OS (Sense or Touchwiz) since I am a die hard CM lover.
1. What i want answered is whether the s pen is still useful and as functional on CM 11/12 as it is on the touchwiz rom and if not, what functionality is retained since its the reason I got the Note.
2. What is the best rom CM/Touchwiz/AOSP available for this phone

The best rom is Best Rom. As you said some like this while others like that. No answer to that. People here ways you to try roms yourself and decide. Or better to look at roms thread and see what people say about bugs and functions etc. And what you need. If not sure you can try the most popular ones. I personally never try unpopular roms to avoid unexpected things.
Now I am sticking with cm12 too and it is very stable. I use Temasek unofficial version 9. You cab find it in development forums. Like you I don't like laggy touchwize even if it is useful due to some apps that only work with touchwize. But hey, if you never like touchwize you will not miss that crap. The speed with nova launcher on cm12 is better than my new Note 4 with lollipop, and even almost and scores on antutu. Real life performance is better on my Note 3
I bought note series because of the school and note making with spen. That's why apps like snote are useful.
Spen works as it should but apps are gone as they relay on touchwize framework which is not present in cm12 which is the whole point of cm. There is an spen app in PS that do some things and another one in beta testing here in xda. But i use Microsoft note and if works just like snote but with some less features. Search forums for root and updates if you decide to do it. Or ask here.
Have a nice day

I have tried few most popular roms for note 3 (even tho its TMO i was using supported ones) and i can tell you that stock lolipop gave me best experience and here is why.
My first rom ever to be flashed was darklord note 5 port by darkera13 and even though it gave me stunning battery idle time it also gave me some bad experiences using camera software which was either poor quality or simply not working when it was needed.
Next I tried s6 port by same developer assuming 5.0.2 base would be much more compatible with our official one but there were some massive memory redraws and weird display brightness bug(screen becomes dim on wakeup).
Since roms above were used as base to other port style roms I dont expect any better from them.(not saying they are bad, contrary, but when stability and reliability is in question ill prefer stock sluggy rom.
I must say that I have never used CM on note 3 so I must leave that to someone else but by the time I am writing this i am using stock and only 5.0 rom provided by TMO on top of lean kernel.(also its massively debloated ).
Cheers,hope it helps!!
AryaMod: Fully featured. Stable. Fluid too (as fluid as stock), and believe some features are really handy, like the alarm notification on lock screen which Samsung omitted from Lollipop. Just use it without Xposed, and you are good to go.

Try tazzy-aurora note 5 port with darklord kernel 1.5 & LS speed mod. Everything works fine and it's really fast with good battery life.
I flashed the s6 settings + stock ui mod (extra mods) and i'm really happy with. Also no camera flickering with darklord kernel
See my sig. Temasek ftw ^^

AryaMod IMO is by far the best Lollipop TW based experience available. I tried literally every single rom from here for 5.0 and nothing compares to Arya when it comes to stability, usage, battery... I highly recommend it!
Always back to cyanogemod CM12.1 = quick, slim, reliable. Only negative is of course the lack of s pen, but you got some third party apps for that.
Used to be great fan of miui, however they are now getting less popular by making their new MIUI 7 lollipop based, which is a sad thing.

Is the Note 3 worth buying even if I hate Touchwiz to death ?

OK, I'm buying a new phone very soon, so far I'm going with the HTC one M8...
But, the note 3 is only 40$ more which got me thinking if it's worth it..
Here's a comparison between the two in terms of specs : http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6074&idPhone2=5665
My only issue is I hate touchwiz to death... I hate it so much that I'd rather use iOS than using touchwiz and I hate iOS so much as well BTW, but still.. Touchwiz.. Uggh..
And that means that I'd be relying mainly on AOSP ROMs..
So how are they on the snapdragon model.. Are they as stable as official ? Is there any known unfixable issues on them ? Performance wise ? The Camera ?
And on a totally different subject, does it record slow mo videos ?
I can see it records 1080p60fps... What about 120fps on 720p ? Is it possible ?
Camera is not as good as on Samsung ROMs, and NFC does not always work, but otherwise the ROMs are as good as you would get on a Nexus device, IMHO.

Define "not as good" ?
Any major crashes or just overall quality ?
You may hate TouchWiz as i did, until they released a different version for Note 5/S6. While they're stubbornness to respond to UI/UX feedback from users is still lacking, Sammy did something here worth checking (i think it has to do with the fact that they asked Google for help).
The Note 5/S6 Ports are SOLID. Personally, AOSP is unmatchable to TW Ports in battery life, but they're better in performance though (most of the times). Please note that this is from my personal experience, i prefer not to flash every week a major system update, let alone daily.
Again, a Note 5 Port gave me 2 days of battery life with 5 hours screen time, consistently, with minimal modding.

I don't just hate touchwiz coz of its performance... I hate it coz it looks pretty darn awful.
If I'm getting the note 3.. I don't think I'm ever gonna be running TW...
__
so still my questions ?
if anyone's has been running AOSP roms for a while, I'd love to know how it's been going ? major issues or anything ?

Poor low-light performance. Sometimes blurry images. IRS usable but not great. YMMV.
For system stability, if you are comfortable with CM, it's as good as is expected. Some builds and kernels are solid as rock, others a crash-fest. I'm very happy but others are not.
One thing to note, though, is that the next Android update might have issues, as a lot of the devs have moved to newer devices. Marshmallow builds are now good enough to use, but next year things might be more difficult.

That's the things I care about....
Well, then.. No NOTE 3 for me...
Thanks for your help.. I think I'm gonna go with the M8.. It has a more active development community...
or wait, and eventually get a 5X or a 6P

I'm waiting for the next Nexus phones myself. Recently got my son a Nexus 5 and realized how much nicer it is to have a phone fully supported by AOSP. Better camera and longer period of upgrades.

You can try stable asop rom. I prefer CM roms. Its much much better than touchwiz roms

Which ROM should i choose ?

Hello XDA,
I've been watching this forum since I've had my HTC Diamond back in the old days. Now I am using a Galaxy Note 3 as my daily driver and I love this phone, but I am the type that likes unique things (I am a web designer so maybe that's why). I currently use Phronesis ROM v4.1 but it has a few flaws like eating too much RAM and some little bugs like the camera app. My question here is which ROM should I use with my Note 3 ?
I want to be stable to use as a daily driver and I'd like to have the apps for the S-Pen like S Note and Memo. Also I want to be lightweight and fast, this phone has 3 GB of RAM, I want at least 1 GB to be free for my use like games and multitasking and maybe a custom launcher.
So please recommend me a good and stable ROM because my internet connection is slow and as much as I like to test new ROMs I really can't because of this.
I am not sure if the different variants of the note 3 has an affect on the stability of it or not. But I am running resurrection remix on my Canadian N900W8 and its awesome right now.
Resurrection remix looks to be a CM rom. I try to stick with touchwiz based roms out of preference. My current that has worked well is Sac23 and norma S6 8.0. No real problems with it, ive just been getting the itch to try something new.
CM rom is best for having least possible consumption of ram. But there's no multitasking feature in it. Not only multi tasking but other important apps like S Note, Action memo etc. I first had CM rom but went back to stock coz I love the stock features.

You can try Audax ! I've had it for two months and i think is the rom you're looking for ! Personally I would not change Phronesis with nothing else, but everyone has their own needs

AryaMod 8.1 -> Based on recent Stock 5.0 firmware -> has loads of Mods in ROM Control App (also few in OTA Updates) -> Xposed can be flashed -> Can select Idle kernel while flashing as Option -> No bugs as far as I know (been my daily driver for nearly an year now)
Thank you guys for recommending me some good ROMs, today I've downloaded Norma ROM v20, tomorrow I will try AryaMod and maybe in about a week I will finally decide of which ROM i should choose.
If you are a Flashaholic like I am and want the most recent Marshmallow flavor, use temasek's CM13 (see my sig). You can use your pen there, too. Some apps installed for pen detection + Squid as SNote replacement and you are set. If you want to keep your TouchWiz flavor, the recommendations above are fine, but feel free to try the few Note 5 ports, too, because these are more recent.

Best Note 7 custom rom

Hello,
Just got my note 4 two days back.
I am confused with so many options available to flash on my note 4.
I want to flash a note 7 ported roam but i love the stability of stock roam.
can you please suggest me a custom roam that is note 7 port and is stable? i use gps, camera and hotspot often so a roam suggestion without bugs in these features will be very helpful.
Thank You.
First of all you have to say what is the version of your note 4
imho: None.
If you want a stable daily driver don't use any of the ported roms. I'm on Norma. It's good, but needs some care. It's not easily flashed. Some major fixes are need to make it boot and useable.
In my experience, the best for stability has always been dr. ketans port with edge features. It's a Note 5 port, so some added bling, but rock solid on my 910F.
If you'ver got a exynos variant, i couldn't tell you...
I would up date your phone to the newest bootloader and modem for your device. I use norma v5 with the ram kernal for the note 7 ports. My device is a n910t. It works flawless i also used a data fix zip too. Make sure to have an apk of some type of key board because samsung key board force closes constantly. I use google keyboard and installed it right away after i got through the initial setup of the phone.
Yep vote here for stock. Nothing else is stable imho. You might find a rom that is fast one day, but slow the next. I have tried every rom for n910g. Always start off fantastic, but then the bugs and crashes come in later.
This is why I'm never buying Samsung again.
Don't go for note 7 ports, in my opinion ramrom is fast and stable. I'm on G variant
