Anyone switching from passport? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone switched to nexus 6p from BlackBerry Passport SE? Do u like it or missing bb10? I've been sitting on the fence on this for a while now and would like some real users opinion who have switched from BlackBerry.
Sometimes I think once the new phone novelty runs out, I might miss my BlackBerry and the passport. Any comments are appreciated.

why u will missed ur bb?
u will have best build and updated and pure android
better camera faster mobile more app best forum developer use it more guide more rom if u need to play around

Any Ex Nexus users?

I have a Nexus and love it! Debating on the HD2, even maybe keeping it as a secondary phone is it worth it? Or do you find yourself missing your Nexus?

missing it since day 1 with the HD2 keep the For at least a week and don't use you N1 and you will endup going back to it I'LL BET YOU ANYTHING!!! YOU WILL
haha LOL
had both nexus & hd2. was a tough decision. they both had their pros and cons. in the end i sold the nexus. what sold me on the hd2 was the hw. its simply a beautiful/fun phone. dont get me wrong, the nexus is awesome. i actually prefer android over wm but in the end it wasnt enough.
the one thing i still miss is all the apps from the android market. while imo alot of apps were "novelty" apps and not really useful to me, there was always an app that did what i needed it to do.
i believe the stock hd2 rom is "clunky" for lack of a better term. some of the cooked roms really make the ui fluid. right now preferring kumars
I think a lot of people went back to their N1 because of the simplicity of android and the apps and updates that are released to fix the bugs unlike for the HD2 and please no one mention cooked roms. As most people dont know how too install the ROMS....
I don't own either but played with both while trying to decide which I want. I have a G1 now and REALLY wanted a Nexus but I am on a family plan and Google has made getting the Nexus too difficult. I talked to the CSRs at TMo and even work arounds will be a giant pain because the plan we're on is a 'grandfathered' plan that isn't available anymore so as long as we don't change it we keep it.
I like the Android OS, I like knowing it will continue to be updated with new and improved releases. While most of the apps in the Market are crap there are a few I do use frequently and best of all 95% of those I use are free.
Sadly if I shelled out $500 for this phone my wife would castrate me.... as much as I want the Nexus I don't want to pay an arm, a leg and.... uhhhh... well, don't like the phone that much.
HD2 is a beautiful phone and I looked at the ROMs and would definitely flash one over the stock ROM. I had 2 WM phones and I do have fun tweaking it, setting it up only to do it all again when I flash something else but there were sooooo many things I hated about WM and I can't remember all the apps I used to use. There was one app that changed a setting and actually killed the app when I closed it rather than move it to the background where I had to go into task manager to kill it. Also have an issue knowing this is on an old and notoriously quirky kernel while only the UI has been updated. Essentially a dead OS that will receive very little in updates.... basically what we have now is pretty much it and up to the creative DEVs here to keep us going. How many more apps will be updated or created with WP7 coming out later this year and all the iphone 1.0/2.0 like features along with it?
Ultimately I think I may end up getting the HD2 and dealing with WM for a while until TMo gets a high end Android phone (Rumor about a Samsung Galaxy also going to TMo). After all the HD2 is amazing piece of hardware and I'll just have to deal with the shame of WM.
Well think it it this way how much would you save in the long run? Because any smartphone you get with a contract you have to add the 29.99 for 2 years times by 24= 700+ So i buy a phone outright and keep my Tzones save so much money in the long run. Also T-mobile Android phones boughtout right or not they do not work with Tzones you will have to switch. Nexus is the only android phone i know of that works with Tzones since its not T-mobile branded.

While it's probably true that (statistically speaking) most people do not know how to install cooked ROMs, it does make the HD2 a far better phone to use, and I consider it a critical part of the decision to purchase.
Most people who own a car do not know how to change the oil, but it still needs to be done. Most people who own a guitar do not know how to tune it, etc, etc.
it's an unfair limitation to suggest that the availability of cooked ROMs should not be factored into the decision making process, IMO.
How many people know outside of XDA what a ROM is? Seriously T-mobile should of dont more testing with this device before they sent it out with this buggy rom. I like this device a lot amazing hardware but hate the little bugs like when it jumps from E-3G and now my device freezes a lot. If i didnt buy this new from ebay i would of returned it and prob gone for the N1. And even the N1 has issues but atleast they sent out update to fix them. I wonder whats taking T-mobile so long? and since WP7 is around the corner i doubt an updates will be given if any at all..

I guess I am different from most people, in that when I decide to make ANY purchase over a certain amount of dollars, I'll research literally everything I can about the product for a considerable amount of time (depending on the cost) before buying it. The fact that everyone doesn't do this is partly to blame for the problems encountered by most users.
Many people go crazy and install everything they see from any source on their phone, and it acts funny... understandably so.
I'd definitely agree that HTC could and should have done a better job with some aspects of the stock ROM, but this is true of any phone manufacturer, and HTC is better than many others in this regard.
I ended up keeping the HD2 bcuz im hoping for an android rom. the hardware made me keep it. its really beautiful but android is much much better than windows mobile i miss android. I had to install a rom just to enjoy the HD2 if you don't know how to install roms i would suggest you learn if you plan on owning this phone. If not go for a nexus one.
it depends on what you want out of your phone.
you'd have to root the nexus one to save apps to sd card. while on the hd2, it already has apps 2 sd capability.
customization is actually higher on the hd2, but it takes A LOT more work. i find it much easier mod the stock android os BEFORE rooting. pick your poison.
in terms of hardware, the nexus one actually has a brighter screen due to AMOLED display while of course, the hd2 screen is a monster in terms of size vs. the n1.
if you really really are in love the android OS and want the screen size of the hd2, why not move over to sprint and get the htc EVO? almost the same hardware specs except the evo is actually better equipped with a front facing camera, hdmi input, etc..

Same here i'm waiting for an Android ROM, i hope its out during the summer or maybe when the EVO comes out it can speed up the process. But the hardware is amazing just wished there weren't so many issues with it..
Anyone if T-mobile or HTC release an software update or are making one?
I kept the Nexus anyway and just use it on the spare line.
I work for T-Mobile so I'm limited to T-Mobile phones, I would NEVER switch to Sprint no matter what phone they got. I use to have them and work for them and not a fan at all. I think i'm going to keep the Nexus One and wait for the Galaxy S. Thanks for the input, and yes my Nexus is rooted so flashing a HD2 shouldn't be to hard. IS there much of a difference rooting Android compared to Windows?
2 things that really turned me off about the HD2 is I heard Battery life only lasts half a day, and the Facebook app which I use A LOT doesn't give you ANY notifications. Also something I love about the Nexus is finding phone numbers I just search a company from the google search bar and it gives me numbers for that company in my location. On the HD2 you have to go to the browser and then do that unless maybe I'm mistaken?

[Q] Best Replacement?

Its been 2 years now and I still love my HD2 , i spend more time using android on it now but I love the fact i can install wm6.5 , android and wp7 etc
battery life has always been an issue but the main problem has been signal (due to o2 uk) which means its time for me to switch provider and most likely get a new phone .. has anyone got any suggestions for a phone that will not make me miss my hd2 ?
Well...
As far as being able to run multiple OS's I think the HD2 is the last of it's kind (the first of it's kind for that matter). But for me I am loving WP7 Mango so I'm looking forward to a WP7 to come out on T-Mo USA. When i get one I'll just use my trusty Leo for Android . If you're looking for an Android phone i think the HTC Ruby is the best IMO and will probably get ICS sometime in the future.
To be honest with you hd2 1 of a kind... I rocked the sensation for 2 months... don't get me wrong dual core.... great phone... I just went back to the hd 2 and I miss it I love it so much better than the sensation.... don't know why just feel so much better do use.... plus the fact that you can rip this rom from windows to android.... the only other thing that I would try the galaxy 2 s or the new galaxy nexus

Yes the Galaxy Nexus looks a good device, except no SD card slot & Android 4.0 is looking to have some interesting new inbuilt useful features & about time UI changes.
Being you are Android user just get what ever device is available to you with the latest android & that should also have good XDA development ...

windows 8 phone and android phone, which is better?

between the two phone, android phone and windows 8 phone, which one do you like? which one should I buy? It puzzles me
rofl.
there isnt a Win8 phone
your taking about WindowsPhone7.
windowsPhone8 doesnt exist.
That being said, having used both:
Android - more tweaks, more apps but also more babysitting to keep it running well; there are 4G phones. Prepare to use task manager, worry about malware and so on.
Windows Phone 7 - less tweaks, less apps, but it "just works". Also, the UI rocks it, designed to be more than just a launchpad for shortcuts. No 4G phones yet. T-Mobile is coming with first phone with front facing camera.
I am one of those that had Android and went to WP7 and yey!

Using a task manager is the single worst thing you can do with android, android handles ram in a totally diffrent way to windows, infact the less free ram, the better android runs.

If ur a muthafckin kid take android- its colourful its brainwashing its absolutely time waisting and you have everything you dont need. If you want a phone which you will not like to drug with take wp7- its fast it works it has everything you will need and its your best partner. You dont have to make it your wife and be a geek till the rest of ur miserable lonely life just like with botdroid! (of course with some small exeptions)
Wp7 is fast it works smooth and you have everything at a glance. The integration is great as well. You don't need an app for that because it does all the stuff you need built into the is OS.

I have been searching for a thread like this to clarify some doubts I have about both platforms....noob here guys so be gentle.
I believe there are some widgets in Android which could provide you a similar feature...i.e. a single glance overview of calls/ appointments/ msgs etc....I also believe this is part of the OS and not a separate app...doesn't this make both equal, featurewise.
I feel that WP7 has the best UI compared to iOS and android.... but the lack of file management and missing USB outlook sync (which is the only reason I'm still sticking to WM) is my biggest worry. I understand there is work around; but I think this is a major drawback.
People who have used both Android and WP7, can you pls share how the lack of these features in WP7 affects day to day usage (mainly business use). Do you feel its worth adapting to the new routine for a smoother user experience (and a promise of further improvements) or the sensible thing is to just sacrifice the cool UI for all the other benefits of having a flexible platform (not to mention some terrific hardware)
Thanks for your input folks....
Android gives you customization and flexibility, but lacks the easy of use that the windows phone ui gives you.
Both are very much usable day by day, but as you've pointed out, the new windows ui is not flexible, and you'r out of luck trying to sync it to outlook, maybe with CompanionLink.
I prefer android
Thanks for the reply.
Anyone with good knowledge on MS know if this situation (USB outlook sync) about to change in further revisions of WP (Tango / Apollo)

That is a feature that will not be added back into the Windows Phone lines. Knowing some of the people on the WP7 team, it's been complained about, but will never seen as a feature in that mobile OS family.
It's an archaic technology, and with the advent of high speed mobile data and wifi hotspots so available for when cell service isn't, it's not seen as a priority to even be considered.

When I read this, I desperately hoped they were from some third world country that I'd never heard of because I didn't understand one word of it.

Looking For a custom build

OK so lemmie explain
1. This DX is a lost device. ESN is gone (NEVER TO BE FOUND )
2. Its main use is Pandora in my shop to keep people entertained with music
3. I want to make it a Wifi ONLY device. taking out all the bloatware and crap that VZ put into it to make it fast, battery efficent, and able to last for days on a single charge.
Please if there is a rom that fits my needs, direct me. if not help me in finding or building one?
its main use is like a tab. decent camera to take pictures, and overall just there to be there, never really meant to leave the building. always connected to one wifi network. ITS A SHOP PHONE
it will use applications that will help me track and manage inventory and send emails to customers, but i want it SIMPLE AND BASIC. an iphone theme would be cool seeing that id be selling it to someone who has an iphone and is confounded by the "overly complicated paperweight" of a phone that i have. time is no issue here, thanks for the help!
There's is no ROM that strips away the phone functionality, although many people have asked for it.
For simple, clean, and good battery life, try Vortex Liberated (VXL).
I don't believe you will be disappointed with it.
If you want more ROM features you can also try ouut CyanogenMod 7, CyanogenMod 9, or MIUI.
Edit: Also, post questions in general

What do you want it for ?
Are you going to root/use a custom ROM ?
For general use the tabs ok, nothing special. Some nice ROMS available for it. All depends on what you want to use it for and how far you are willing to customize it !
Your not in London are you ? I'm looking to sell my tab  (P3113 WiFi only , white ,8GB)

as a replacement for my desire ( which i used as a second phone) primary use will be just to browse the net...maybe occasional calls but unlikely..
rooting wise - very noob at that so prob will leave it as standard
Its a little good tab , Plays most media out of the box. Think you'll get Ice Cream Sandwich on it ...Most recent ROM is JellyBean. The official updates are very slow from Samsung. You wont get all the top games for it on Google play but have a massive selection to choose from. I cant think of any bugs as such , although it gets a little laggy at times using a stock ROM, hence Root/Custom ROMs but its up to you.
You will get tons of Samsung's bloatware added to the ROM and it uses up space ... you have an external SD Card slot but you cant install apps on it.Its for media only.So space could become an issue over time. Another good reason to Root. You can flash an deodexed stock ROM back on to it with all the crap removed.
You will get plenty of support on the SGT7 forum, most users are friendly and very helpful. Just noticed the calls ... you want a P3100 , cant comment on the phone side of it as I'm WiFi only.
Its a nice tablet but if my 3113 wasnt a gift, id rather have gone with a 16gb Nexus not only for the Google support but the storage size as well. That measly 5gb available for storage goes quick. The sd card slot is almost a waste unless you download alot of crap or want to store roms on it.

storage for me isnt really an issue as im not really into playing games etc......
just wanting to know if as a whole package its worth paying for..
If you are getting it cheap , its worth it. Personally Id get a Nexus 7 but I've got the "Droid bug" , hence me upgrading to a Nexus 7 (32 GB WiFi) ( Same price as a new Samsung equivalent tablet)But out of the box the SGT2 7 works as its meant to.
Samsung has made a nice job of the ROM you get. Nice apps like the media player are good. Nice well made widgets as well, Chrome works well on the tab and the default browser is ok, The default e mail links to your accounts. WiFi works good.Obviously Google Apps are installed already.
All in all its not a bad tab , just better ones are out for a similar price now. I'm sure a lot of us regret buying this Tab and not getting/waiting for the Nexus 7...but that's the way it works and how technology is now days.
End of the day its your choice.

i seldom use it as a phone since i have had a GS3 already
after upgrading it to jelly bean i find it really smooth and responsive!!
the storage is enough for me because i moved most of my game data to the external sd card
the only thing i think isn't so gd is the resolution of the LCD
compare with the 720p amoled of the GS3 i think 1024x600 is quite fuzzy...
however i really recommend you to try it yourself, as the nexus 7 is also a very good choice of performance
