Power button twice camera - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody know if it's possible to change the camera app when double pressing the power button? I have changed my default camera to proshot but when double pressing the power button it still opens the stock camera.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

I don't use Proshot but I just cleared defaults for my stock camera and set the action to Snapchat which worked fine. Try clearing default launch action for any camera apps and the double tap your power button, it should prompt you to select one, select Proshot and then say Always.

Hi! I'm the developer of ProShot. If you have a password-protected lockscreen, the power button shortcut won't work at this time (it will work if there is no password though). For some reason Android isn't granting the app access to the camera, despite the fact that it's declared properly in the manifest. I'll be reaching out to Google about this.

Disable stock camera with root and see what happens?

Disabling the stock camera just makes the screen flash when double pressing the power button. I disabled it with titanium backup. How are your suggesting disabling it?

Hi,
I'm sorry for hijacking the thread but since you're here I thought I'd ask if it's normal for the app to freeze/take a while to respond when you change the orientation of the phone? It's happening to me a lot lately, to the point that I stopped using the app. We are able to keep talking about this through PM or I am able to PM you my email address in case you need some sort of logs.
Thanks

When you change the orientation, the app does a normal UI rotation animation (shouldn't freeze or anything). This is unfortunately necessary due to a bug in Android. The UI rotation only takes 0.5s though. Is it taking longer? We can PM, just wanted to address the issue publicly

But weirdly A Better Camera and Open Camera will show up as an option when I have a PIN
When I don't have a PIN ProShot will show up
So what are they doing differently?

I'll try recording it and, in case I'm able to reproduce it, I'll send you the video by PM.

I don't know There's a public git for Open Camera and I see that our permissions declarations are the same. I've spent a lot of time looking into this and I'm stumped.

Sorry, what did do specifically? I'm trying to do the same with EX Kernel and I turned down the gesture vibration all the way, but it didn't change anything.

[Q] Android 4.2.2 Changes?

Has anyone else noticed that you can no longer adjust the Ringer Volume from the Lock Screen when pressing the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons?
Have not seen this noted (mentioned) in any of the Android 4.2.2 articles or videos..
Wondering if its a Android 4.2.2 change, or if its just my phone.. (started after update. could adjust prior to 4.2.2)
Also noticed the Popup (Volume Adjustment Overlay) no longer appears when pressing Volume Up or Down on the Lock Screen when music is playing..
(could probably use this thread to discuss any other changes made in Android 4.2.2 - although there are few changes)
I noticed that too. Petty annoying, if you ask me. They still having managed to have camera quick access from lock screen with pin. And why do I have press enter every time after inputting my pin? On IPhone and windows phone you don't need to and they have study access to the camera.

I noticed that they changed the tone when going down to 14% on your battery.... Not a biggie but still something.
When downloading apps from the play store it shows an ETA now, don't think that was there before. Also notification bar animation seems slower.

As far back as I can remember having android you've always been able to adjust the Ringer Volume from the LockScreen...
I like having that ability so I could put the phone on Vibrate/Silent, while its still in my pocket as I walk into a meeting (or other event)
Now I must pull the phone out, so I can unlock it just to change the Ringer..
And Also liked the ability to change Ringer Volume via lockscreen when I was at the gym, forget to turn off ringer, then must place sweaty hand on the phone to unlock.
I used lockscreen volume all the time. I don't know why they'd remove a feature like that!
I even trawled through various settings to see if I could enable it somewhere. No luck.
If you hold down power until it shows the power options, it will let you use the volume rocker.

Don't know what your point is. Just tried this and it works fine for me.
Make sure you swipe from edge of screen.

I think he's talking about when he swipes over on the lock screen to access the camera he is being asked to enter his security pin, instead of just opening the camera... or maybe its not asking him for pin, and thats what he wants.. Hard to understand what he's saying.
I just wish I could remove the camera widget from the lockscreen. I've taken maybe 2 pictures from the phone, and those were to test quality.

I enabled pin to see for myself....it doesn't prompt to enable security pin.
Yip the camera should be able to be removed - since we're talking about removing stiff, so should the icons in the status bar.
You can add a widget between the lock screen and camera though. Add a widget and press and home - allows you to move widget screens around to your liking.
Well I think the this is a restriction introduced by the device administration of my company and actually not Google's fault. But HTC sense was able to quick access the camera.

Disable camera hardware button.

Hey, so I'm getting annoyed that every time i place my phone stand in the car, the camera launches due to the stand getting a firm grip on the phone.
So yeah, I would like to disable the button completely.if that's possible?
Running stock. 157 rooted
Thanks.
When you open up camera app and go to settings, you should see an option for quick launch. Just set that to off and the hardware button will be disabled.

Camera, time out-time

If left untouched, the camera-app will shut down after approximately 30 seconds.
Very frustrating when waiting for the perfect opportunity to take a picture.
Is there any way to change this behavior?
(Except from taking pictures or changing focus by half pressing the camera button or such)

Mine stays open all the time. I just opened camera app and put it on the table for about 2 minutes and it stays open.
Maybe u use any powersaving apps / modes?
Also, which firmware do u use?
Camera app V 1.0 or camera app V 2.0?
You can try to clear data via settings>apps>all>camera and test again.

1. Nope, no stamina mode or such
2. 32.0.A.6.200 (latest available stock)
3. Both? "Camera extension" is version 1.0 and "Camera common" is version 2.0
4. I have two, see 3 above, cleared both
Still the same after clearing data and rebooting.

Could u upload a screen recording of what exactly is happening?
And does it happen in all camera modes? (8MP, 23MP, 20MP, video, manual, superior auto, and AR as well?)
It happens if you go to camera app trough lockscreen shortcut or hardware button form stand-by, but if you unlock device, then go to camera app in normal way touching the icon from homescreen or in drawer then it won't shut down it self.

I think that is just a "feature" to prevent prolonged activation of camera if by misstake pressing the hardware shutter button or if screen goes on by some reason like sms and contact with skin through thin jeans pockets could pull around lockscreen buttons.

Oh then I misunderstood you. I thought u where talking about unlocking and then opening camera app.
I can confirm the issue now lol, but I think this is to prevent the camera staying open in case it accidentally opened.

That seems correct. Opening the app as you said made the Camera stay open til I close it manually.
I´ve never opened the camera that way before since I hava a physical button for it.

I would still like to change the behavior but I guess that´s not something done easily. (Or does anyone know a way?)

What is this screen that keeps appearing and how do I disable it?

I see it sometimes when I pull my phone out of my pocket. I have no idea which combination of buttons/screen taps/ or whatever I'm doing to make it appear.
It's an LG memo app that came with the phone. If you double tap volume-up, it starts, bypassing the lock screen. I'm pretty sure you can change this in settings.
BTW, if you double tap volume-down, the camera app starts, bypassing the lock screen. THIS is very useful!

Thanks!
You can disable the memo app if it bothers you or you have no need for it.

That is the built-in screen capture. You may have been accidentally pressing the screen capture key. I can't remember anymore which one is the default, because I have re-assigned it somewhere else. You have the option to save it as image in Gallery app or the Quick Memo app.

Navigation Buttons Mod?

Call me a bit old fashioned, but I have a specific set of "keybinds" that I always work to achieve one way or another on my android devices.
The "Menu" button of old is more important to me than a "Recents" button - really just hoping to achieve inverted behavior of the square button: short press for menu, long press for recents.
Long pressing the "Back" button should kill the foreground app.
Any other bind to quickly toggle the torch light.
Using the menus in OxygenOS, I can't seem to achieve this. Any suggestions or secrets I've yet to find out about?
In Oxygen os you can set LONG PRESS RECENT BUTTON to perform MENU Action. I use it all the time.
About long press back button to kill app, I think this feature was removed in PIE.
Me too was looking for it but didn't find a solution.
Anyway I quickly realized that I don't need it. Op6t can keep a lot of app in memory so there's no need to kill.
When i want to kill one or all i use Recents.
Not a big deal for me.
Yep that's how I'm using everything now. It gets the job done, though I find myself reverting to old habits absent-mindedly. I'm sure I'll be perfectly adapted in a matter of days.

Permissions granted using root. It won't get past the compatibility check (The screen says "If you don't see anything your device is incompatible," and I certainly dont see anything). Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I don't think the permissions are the problem. The app doesn't complain about that, it just doesn't do anything to the nav bar during setup, and according to the app that's indicative of incompatibility.
