Notification Light Not Changing Color - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to customize the notification LED per app. I've tried 3 tools to achieve this but I am not having success. Both GravityBox and XBlast tools would let me change the colour, but it would never work. All my notifications were still white. Even when I "previewed" the notification light, it would still be white. I also tried light flow, but only a couple of notification lights would show (those were some of the predefined settings). Are there specific hex values I have to use to get it to work? I really want to get this to work but it is annoying me!!

Settings/accessibility/light flow is turned on?

In the light flow app, settings/general settings/enabled?

I found the issue. I didn't realize there are only certain colours for the LED. I was choosing custom colors, and if the hex value wasn't one of the few supported colours, it wouldn't work properly.

Same issue. Blue isn't working, but I can get it to flash for a brief moment... Also, I used to use orange, but I can't get orange to display at all. I hope this isn't a hardware problem.

[Q] Notification Light

Is it possible to, like the small little notification led, make the smartphone's buttons (home, search, back and options(?)) (or even just one button, if the respective drivers allow it) stay on when there's a pending notification?
I saw this on a friend's LG 2X and he told me that was a customization made by someone in a custom ROM, so that wasn't a stock feature.
I think this will be, if it's doable, an awesome extra feature since the led is too much tiny to capt our attention to the pending notification and I imagine it's not very hard to implement.
Thanks in advance.
Well I am gonna point out that the small notification led we have is really cool RGB led. So you can have different colours depending on what it's going to notify about. Sad thing is as you stated it's pretty small and not visible at some points.
I would say the thing you wish for is up to the ones who customize roms. Ask them, head over to the development section.
Right. I'll post this in Dev section.
As long as we're talking about notification led, can someone tell me where to find full a description of light colors and meanings? The manual on the Huaweis own site isn't full/complete, 'coz it doesn't mention a blue color. I once got the led to flash blue, when Watchdog Lite "got a wiff" of an app that misbehaved and notified me about it. And it wasn't a one time event, since it did it with every Watchdog notification.

if the application can manage the led then you could see every possible colour if it is programmed for it...
for example through the handcent sms you can put whatever colour you want for the notification the programm handles...
so maybe with watchdog you can try it too...
they don't have special meanings the colours and they turn on to the colour they are programmed to from the company...
Is there a good app to set notification light color? Besides Light Flow (which changes the color but only blinks once or stays always on) or Blink (which asks for an internet access I don't want to grant due the usability settings, and thus haven't even tried)? Any way to change 'em manually?

What are the correct LED notification colours?

So far, each notification has been white but looking closely, it looks a muffled with tinges of red and blue in there.
How should it be?
It is rgb so it should be an array of colors. I know there are apps like light flow I believe that allow you to change the color. Gosms pro for example already allows me to change color

All the default notification lights are white as far as I am concerned. The colour tinges is from there actually being 3 coloured LEDs being on at the same time to mix the colours into white. But, yes, if you want to customise it use Light Flow.

Ok so can anyone else let me know if they get any other colour from gmail?
Tried light flow and the test mode flickered green (but no other colours) so it seems it is working at least.

I have red for gmail... I am wondering if this is related to the fact that I have restored some data with titanium backup...
Hmm. Strange. I notice I am not always getting notifications at all, neither LED or tone.

6p LED light

I currently have the Nexus 6 which requires root to enable the notification light. I was looking online, it looks like the LED notification light will pulse and can be enabled via stock ? The video I saw showed a red light when a text came in, are there different colors stock, or would more customization require a custom ROM ? Thanks.
Certain SMS apps like Textra will allow you to customize the color of the LED notification on the 6P.
Light flow and many other apps control the led stock, non rooted. An than Roms even have their own personal led light settings. All work great on 6p.

So you can activate the light, but the default is red for all notifications unless you manually use a 3rd party app ?

Default is a light blueish/whiteish light.
I just got a Nexus 6P yesterday. It was already running Android N. Where is the switch to activate the notification light? The settings menu is different from what is shown for Marshmallow.

Nevermind...I found the switch under the settings menu in Notifications.

Always On Display Questions

(1)
the always on display brightness is apparently controlled by an
ambient light sensor, it's brighter in more light and darker in low
light. is there a way to disable the ambient sensor so it stays
bright all the time ? it's hard to see at night in the bedroom.
(2)
i was watching a review on Youtube and the guy was able to
add custom images to the always on display, his Note 7 (Sprint)
had version 1.7.29 always on display and mine (AT&T) has 1.5.84
and mine says it's the latest version with no option to update.
does anyone else have the newer version that allows using
custom images ?

I'm on att too hand had ver. 1.7.29 but just went into the app and there's a new version today = 1.7.34. See if you can Update (I did the update from within the AOD app itself) and then see if you can now add a custom image.

Also, once you update go back into AOD app and select clock for example then at the very bottom of the layout choices select that layout and it will let you add your Own Image. I tried to get a screenshot but AOD goes away before I can capture it.

Moto Z Front Facing LED

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but the Moto Z does have a front LED light that can be activated by changing /sys/class/leds/charging.
It seems to be activated when flashing in fastboot (?), and is a small white light between the camera and speaker. The Moto X LED app seems to work with root permissions. Unfortunately there's only one brightness, so the brightness control doesn't work.

i've use this since moto x style, z play also can use, but no option for missi call / message
Use light flow legacy for led for missed notifications.
I'm using Moto Led Enabler (root required).
With this you can choose which app enables the led.
Not the most stable app at the moment but does the job.
I'm currently only using it for hangouts, gmail and missed calls.
Every couple of days it needs a kick in the rear to get going again
Seems good, I do miss the light on my old S4.

Strange, it ticks all apps after close and open. And the LED did not go off. Is there some special setting necessary?

Thanks for your tip.
I installed the Moto Led Enabler is working now.
I use Light Flow Legacy with great succes. The LED blinks with every notification I want and it works together with Moto display. It needs root though.
First install the app. Go to the setting and enable 'root modus' and 'use root on every action' (or something like that, I use a different language on my phone). Then go to notifications and set charging led to 'only' and brightness to 255 for every notification. That's all

So it's required to have a rooted phone, right.

I guess it's not possible to access the LED without root. Not with this method anyway. So root is required for light flow legacy to work yes.
