Saw that MM users are reporting some issues with T-Mobile voice calls when Enhanced 4G LTE Mode (VoLTE) is enabled. A suggested workaround is simply to disable VoLTE.
T-Mobile requires VoLTE support for Band 12 access. If phone has VoLTE disabled, does this then disable Band 12 access on T-Mobile?
I'm watching the current MM public beta testing to see if I want to take the plunge. The main reason I would update to MM is to get Band 12 on T-Mobile, but if VoLTE has to be disabled because of voice call issues and this disables Band 12 I'm going to stick with 5.1.1 for now.
Appreciate any info.
It doesn't disable band 12 from what I can see.
What public beta?
Band 12 doesnt work on mine at all after upgrading..

I have SM-N910U model of the note 4 and would like to know how I can enable voLTE. I know my phone supports it, but I can't find it anywhere in the settings nor is it active. My carrier has voLTE, but the phone data drops to 2g when I make calls. I would like to know a way to enable voLTE, so the data stays at 4g while on the call.
Or is there a way to add volte to international roms seems like it is only for carrier branded phones
I have the same problem with Galaxy Alpha on the Metro/ Tmobile Network.
LTE drops to 3 G on calls and often kills Data
during and even a minute or so after the call.
Not good for multitasking- this is a Factory Unlocked Alpha NOT a native Tmo / Metro phone .
The 4G LTE Tmo/ Metro Phones always have simultaneous voice and data so you can be on Web while on a call.
I think some have VoLTE and some have dual band simultaneously in the firmware specifically for Tmo.

Yes you are correct. VoLTE service can be enabled only with layer 1 modified kernel/drivers. The hardware itself definitely supports it, but firmware doesn't. Main reason the Samsung decided to disable this feature is because not all carriers in the world use voLTE service and enabling the service on the user end may trigger unstable and disconnection during call. I have contacted Samsung by Twitter and have yet to receive a response if they are going to enable this feature or not. Will let you know if I hear anything back from them!
Thanks. I wonder if some Dev here can do it for $ 100 .
Really like the size, speed and great Audio quality of Alpha and was going to get the larger Battery but I often can not get back on Internet for a few minutes after a call-
while the Phone says 3G (?) then it goes back to LTE and back to Internet...frustrating .
Am used to Metro PCS VoLTE since 2012 and had not considered this problem with a Factory Unlocked non Carrier Device.
No one reminded me there would be no VoLTE and sometimes no voice and Data simultaneously...
So DEVs figure it out for me and I will have a Tech here do the Install/ Download.
Alternative will be a too big branded S6 either Tmo or Metro which will have a better Camera, even slightly better than Note 4 but I love the small form factor of Alpha- this is Alpha 850 M.
Don't think Samsung will help although there is rumored to be VoLTE with Lollipop so there's a possibility.
Will Lollipop VoLTE perform like a Branded Metro PCS with LTE remaining on Display during calls and simultaneous Internet ?
Anyone have a Beta Lollipop for Alpha that achieves this ?
Thanks.
Hey all,
I know there's been some discussion about whether this device supports band 12 on T Mobile. LTE Discovery reports that my OP2 running 2.0.2 shows in fact connect to band 12. It drops down to HSPA when I make a voice call, but otherwise connects to band 12 for data.

Hey, what network are you on?~
I know in the UK if you're on Three, this device doesnt support VoLTE, so it will drop to 3G to make a phone call. Just how the phone will work as you can't make calls over LTE because the network provider either doesn't support it or doesn't support the device.
That's what I've found.
There's a thread with a clear title on this very subject in the OP2 General section. It's been active since Sept. 11.

After changing carrier to T-Mobile, I've noticed my N910C 5.1.1 doesn't have the Wifi Calling option. In theory, even if C version doesn't support Band 12, Wifi calling should be possible since it just uses wifi. Anyone with the same device found a way to get wifi calling with T-Mobile?
Can anybody on T-Mobile confirm that VoLTE is working? I received the stock OTA a couple of days ago by removing the sim card first. Band 12 is enabled and gets engaged from time to time (I can see it using LTE Discovery), but every time I make or receive a call the phone drops LTE and changes to H and 3G. The Enhanced 4G LTE Mode option is enabled. Isn't it supposed to keep LTE during the call if VoLTE is working?
I'm in Miami, FL.

Enhanced 4G LTE enabled here, phone calls keep to the phone in LTE mode (as well as enabling high speed data while on calls)

Thank you for confirming this. I guess I will have to try with a different sim card.

Can you explain "Enhanced 4G LTE"? I don't see the option obviously anywhere in my settings, so it might be because I'm on AT&T at the moment, but I'm considering switching for economical and VoLTE reasons.
Also, could you give me any advice on whether I should be able to get away with a tablet SIM or if I'd need a phone SIM. If VoLTE and/or Google Voice work properly, I expect that I should be able to still make and receive calls. Is that unrealistic?
My phone: Lumia 950XL.
I ust got off the phone with T-Mobile tech support and they tell me my phone doesn't support band 12 which is the 700 band that breaks through concrete. Anyone have this phone with good T-Mobile LTE service. I found that my phone does have band 12 by typing ##3282# on my phone dialer then sending the call. It shows this band in a long list of other bands. The band is also check marked showing that it's active.
As I understand it, the issue isn't whether the phone is capable of using LTE Band 12 (700 MHz), but T-Mobile's requirement that the phone support VoLTE as they are deploying Band 12 as LTE-only and in areas where they don't have alternate UMTS support on other bands that the phone can drop into for calls. Unfortunately, VoLTE and WiFi Calling implementations are carrier-specific in the US and Microsoft doesn't seem to be able to support either on non-branded phones. Similar issues exist for me with my 950 XL on AT&T - no HDVoice (VoLTE) or WiFi Calling available.
