MM 6.0 T-Mobile OTA: Good Results For Anybody? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got the T-Mobile OTA notification for MM this morning
After reading in this forum about various problems with MM on MXPE, I'm hesitant to accept the OTA. This phone running 5.1.1 is overall the best and most trouble-free phone I've had yet, 6.0 offers no compelling feature for me other than LTE Band 12 and VoLTE support for T-Mobile (but it seems VoLTE is not working so well in some cases).
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it ".
Curious to hear if anyone has all-around good and trouble-free results with MM OTA on T-Mobile. And if so, is there anything in the upgrade process, phone config etc. that may be factor(s) in that.
TIA...

I'm on TruePureX v2.2.1 and have absolutely no issues whatsoever. I love the permissions feature of Android 6.0 as well as Ambient Display instead of MotoDisplay (With the Enable Ambient Display Xposed Module, of course) and a few other minor things 6.0 brings into play that 5.x didn't. Band 12 is working as well as VoLTE has been top-notch in my experience. Google's Now On Tap is really cool, but not a feature for you to jump at the upgrade for... I think the VoLTE and Band 12 are worthwhile alone but the permissions is handy and there's minor tweaks here and there that are more user friendly.

Only issue I've run into is choppy sound on phone calls. It's resolved by turning off enhanced 4G LTE mode though, so if you don't need LTE while on a call, like me, it's no big deal.
Other than that it's running great! Better battery life for me. I ran stock for several days and am now running TruPureX with the new Google dialer mod along with Xposed and Gravity Box... So far so good ? Battery life on TruPureX has been better for me than on stock (I just flashed Xposed and the dialer mod last night, so hoping that the mods don't affect battery, we'll see)
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk

Appreciate the info on TruPureX.
But I am mainly looking for info about the "stock" MM 6.0 ROM being pushed by T-Mobile now.
Can anybody who is running this with overall good results comment on how it is doing?
Again, TIA...

LG G3 D850 CM12 Lollipop nightly review

This morning I decided I couldn't hold back from android 5.0 any longer and the update just couldn't come fast enough (it never can, am I right) so being the average android fanboy I looked toward CyanogenMod. I knew all they had was night lies and that was why I held off so long, but my curiosity gave in and I had to. So I headed over to cyanogen and grabbed my handy dandy .zip . I rebooted to recovery and went through the routine, and it just couldn't go fast enough, in reality it was the fastest flash I've ever done. First cm12, then my gapps. Waited for the phone to reboot blahdeeblahdeeblahhh, went through the upgrade process and BAMMM! 5.0 RIGHT IN MY FACE! First look at this nightly 5.0 and I couldn't get enough. The quadhd has definatley been put in effect and it shows. Everything I've used has been fully functional except updating su binaries (prob lack of support for 5 due to being new). The elegance and speed run perfectly along eachother, and my phone has never been faster. I may be speaking to soon, but this project must be somewhere close to a stable build. I'm currently running 1/21 nightly and i recommend it to others, I have found this ROM safe and will continue updating my phone with nightlies

I never understood why people think that CM12 is so faster than LG's rom. For me both are blazing fast, CM12 could be even slower because it has longer animations (if we compare on 1x speed both). Speaker quality and volume is really lame on CM12 rom unlike on LG's rom. Only two things I dont like about LG's rom is crap lockscreen (CM12 has best lockscreen ever) and new Lollipop look. Kitkat looks much more elegant than Lollipop which looks childish and cartoonish. I bought G3 after having various Nexus devices with full stock google experience, and I gotta say it's nice to have some integrated useful features. CM12 is still missing many features, won't even think about switching to it right now.

I'm in agreement with speaker volume, I noticed after switching over that my phone wasnt as loud as it had been before. I believe a lot of people believe that the simple look of lolipop is what makes it so elegant, its more laid back. There are a lot of disadvantages with switching over to. If your a quickremote user you quickly miss not having it in cm12.
Long story short, custom ROM'S never be good as official ESPECIALLY for LG G3, you just need to understand that, for some people it's ok but for some don't. All you need is a root and MAYBE a custom kernel. PEACE.
Agreed on sound quality but CyanogenMod has many advantage's
I would argued on sound quality and maybe animations just because they are more much nice in CyanogenMod vs stock ROM. Everything else is just plain better in CyanogenMod. I am experiencing a randomly sound beep for about 1 to 3 seconds and dont know why. I am always on the lastest nightly.
Also I love the fact that I can see thr constants additions or fixes CyanogenMod is doing.

Wonderful news, im happy to hear that quickremote is still a possibility, I tried a apk from the stock ROM but it did not work, I'll hunt down the zip
Nightly 1/22 has slight WiFi issues, everything else remains working as far as I could tell, currently trying a more stable 5.0 ROM, illusion

I had wifi and data issues too on CM12. I could barely get 3G on some places at work.

It's good to hear that CM12 is coming along. I tried it back when it was "unofficial" and my phone was overheating to the point that it actually scared me. Since then I have moved over to Cloudy G3 (which is based on stock). The Cloudy G3 Rom itself is very quick and with the Android L theme from @Kickoff it has a much nicer look that is closer to the stock android UI. I think I will stick with Cloudy G3. The main reason being that I am able to use ExFAT on my SD card and also the LG camera allows you to save to SD and all of the LG features are there if I want them.
Illusion ROM is extremely stable with a good build team, been using for two days now with NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER! Its the full lollipop experience.
I also moved as soon as CM12 become possible to use for daily use.
Room is incredible fast, every day less and less bugs. With the most of them is possible to live with.
Comparing to ****ty LG's android, i finally have feeling that i have good phone. Lag and terrible quality of official android make me to feel sorry for buying this phone (beside battery).
I reverted back to cm12. Running 1/26 right now and its flawless. DO NOT UPDATE TO 1/27! There are major speed issues and connection problems. Illusion ROM lacked features I enjoyed and there settings menu was a train wreck.

WARNING
DO NOT UPDATE PAST NIGHTLY 26!!! after nightly 26 almost all connection services such as WiFi and mobile network will not work or work extremely poorly. I have tested all the way up to nightly 29. All the zips are in some way corrupt. They give red code while flashing but proceed anyways (I'm not a proffesional sorry guys haha). Nightly 29 wouldn't even boot without the kernel crashing. Nightly 26 is running almost flawlessly. I hope someone sees this so they can address the problem. I have still not tried nightly 30. I might try sometime later tommorow, I'll continue updating.
Nightly 30 and 31 are working and everything is starting to get polished over. Nightly 31 received a new boot animation darker than before with a nicer ending. Both run very well with no problems noticed so far other than very minor lag between some animations.
Mind that CM12 is in its early Nightlies, issues will be fixed but it will take time.
Well of course, I'm just recording bugs in each nightly so people will have a better idea whether or not they should move to the next nightly
I'm currently considering this rom. Comming from a Nexus 5 I really miss stock Lollipop. The only thing I was wondering is if it was possible to keep the LG Camera App and if the knock code still works? I don't really care about anything else from the official LG rom.
I notice there hasn't been any update recently to this thread. Are you guys still using Cyanogen? How is it comming along.
Thanks.

the activeness of this thread doesn't determine the stability of a ROM lol. flash CM yourself and find out. if you want your G3 to be as smooth and flawless as your Nexus 5 was on AOSP, over clock your GPU to 580MHz and it'll fix all the lag. you can do this on the stock CM kernel using Trickster Mod kernel tweaker.
also, no LG camera and no knock code. but there is Motorola camera which is really just as great, and there is double tap screen to turn it on.

My thoughts on my new OnePlus X

Man this phone is beautiful. Size and build quality are A+ really good in the hands. Sound is surprisingly good for a single speaker. I also like the Oxygen OS as well. Call quality is good too. There are a few things though that would make this phone even better, and I bet if they had these features the phone would have sold 50% more than it did. They are:
1. LTE on all bands including 12 and 17
2. Dual WIFI 5 G
3. More Timely updates
4. Better Camera
They could make a Oneplus X SE version and have those features and charge say $279 Overall pleased with it.
There had to be few compromises. Yes the camera could have been better. But there is a version by sultanxda that enhances the camera. It is good.
Yet to buy this phone. Cannot wait*!
It is a very good phone but it is even more amazing once rooted and a custom rom flashed on it which you may or may not want to do yet. I think it may also be possible to unlock the locked LTE bands once rooted but am not sure.
I tried to put a custom ROM on it. Must have tried 8 or 9 of them. They would install fine but I would get no cellular data, I had no signal from T-Mobile. Finally just gave up and went back to stock and everything worked.

That's interesting..I'm still thinking of flashing a custom rom... For now I use stock oxygenos with bluspark kernel, rooted. I still try to add all funktions that are missing for me via xposed and apps but for one it's quite some work to do and I'm also concerned of additional battery drain. My cell phone carrier is T Mobile Austria.
I'm sure it was just me, user error some how I must have missed a step or something
Wow this is strange. I just went back to try and flash Exodux Rom and this time it worked. I have data and everything. I have no idea what I did different this time to get it to work.

Not to mention that you can do even more with the camera from Color OS
This is the best $250 you could spend on a device really. Its perfect. No performance drawbacks or anything like that. The only things I could ask for if they made a X^2 is a bigger battery and a better camera sensor... Maybe an 805 or 652 as well... and maybe 3.18 kernel sources... but hey, I'm happy.
Regarding 5ghz WiFi... That would be awesome and actually, with an internal mod, should be possible. But even with 2.4ghz I'm able to go a far distance away from home and still have a decent connection that I wouldn't have on any other device

Agree. I got the ceramic version, paid $300 (onyx version would have cost the same for my country) for 9 days now and I'm pleasantly surprised. 5ghz wifi and a bigger battery are the only 2 things missing for me.
A cm based rom, not overly bloated makes it perfect. OxygenOs itself is not perfect but after rooting, installing bluspark kernel, removing some google apps and using xposed modules it's great.
If one is used to have a custom rom flashed, I can only recommend the xposed module gravitybox..lets you greatly customize your rom.
Thinking of upgrading to this from my 2014 Moto G that I got before Chirstmas as an emergency purchase. It's lasting me fine and running a highly optimized stock ROM very well. But I really want something that has more under the hood. Especially in the RAM category. I'm not a super heavy user in terms of how many apps I run. (I try to keep whats running in the background to an absolute minimum) So having the 'latest and greatest' specs isn't really a concern for me.
My only concern is the lack of the popular LTE bands being that I live in the states. I've been living on HSPA+ for the past 4 months and really haven't had much to complain about. Anyone care to share how well it does on 3g and the like?

[Q] Bringing my N4 out of retirement

My current phone, HTC M8 has almost died on me. The speakers are shot and to be honest the battery is getting worse, it really isn't worth fixing considering it's beaten up condition.
For now I need speakers, so I'm thinking of digging out my mint condition Nexus 4. It is unlocked etc so it is ready for flashing away. The last rom on it was the fantastic Mahdi rom, but of course that was Kitkat.
I hate asking the best rom question, it's done to death and annoys people. So I'll ask a different way!!!
Would I be correct to assume Lollipop roms are likely the most stable, battery efficient roms or is the consensus that Kitkat was better? I won't mention Marshmallow as it's not "official". Oh wait, I just did!
Thank you.
Purenexus or chroma are very stable on marshmallow.
Thanks for that, will take a look later.
It will be like stepping back time firing up the old Nexus. Still a fantastic piece of hardware, quite ahead of it's time back then I think.
I would also recommend Chroma, Marshmallow works really well on the Nexus 4 even if it is not officially released for that device. I wouldn't go back to a previous version.
About Pure Nexus, personally I've had some issues with it. If I remember well it was Bluetooth audio playback stutettering and/or frequent WiFi disconnections. It was an older version however. Maybe it is fixed now.
Unfortunately, the developer is only going to be releasing one more update to Chroma for the Nexus 4 and that is it, so it doesn't make sense to install it . I am currently on Chroma and love it, so that is a shame. I think I am going to go with CM13 next.
After enjoying a 64gb storage phone, I just realised my old N4 was only an 8gb. That said, I don't recall ever running out of space. I don't do music, install many apps or store much junk such as pics so I might get away with it. I simply need a working phone for talk, text, mobile web etc.
Dirty Unicorns is a solid ROM..
For marshmallow I recommend Pure Nexus. The best I've used performance, stability and battery life wise, was Purity kitkat.
I would recmend Sailfish OS + sfdroid. You can run android apps and have the best multitasking out there. Sailfish OS is almost pure linux on your phone. It's faster then android and without sfdroid and google apps does not drain battery. You will have amazing battery life with just sailfish os on your nexus 4. Trust me i have nexus 4 with Sailfish OS only. It does 4 hour SOT at least with full day battery life.
Thanks for all the advice. The old N4 is now up and running, with the latest Pure Nexus. All is well, although it will take some getting used to not having bass speakers from the htc!
Good to have a working phone again. Hope it lasts a while until I can afford another phone or get my htc repaired. Might have a play around with different roms.
Anyone still on Kitkat?
Chroma, installed it in both my mom and brother nexus, no problem whatsoever.
The ROM isn't the only thing you can do to make the N4 up to "modern standards".
My advice is to find a ROM you like. I use DirtyUnicorns since it stills get updated regularly (but it sucks because they recommend you clean flash each time).
Next, flash the HellSpawn kernel (and control it with the Kernel Aduitor app, from the play store).
Then go find the latest Viper4Android app and flash that. This will boost your sound performance immensely (seriously, it's like a different phone) - note, if you get audio bugs then just increase performance in the kernel.
Finally, get some nice icon themes or layers so you can make it as you want it.
(for more advanced stuff, you can flash xposed as well and add some nice modules to improve the look and usage of the phone).
Oh, and AdAway!

Good Android 6.0 Verizon Note 3 SM-N900V ROM

I have seen a few threads with ROMs, most of them being a port of Touchwiz, some of them being unstable or having battery consumption, or 3G issues. In terms of stable ROMs, what do you guys recommend I go with for my note 3 (which, in my opinion, is still one of the best phones on the market)
My phone is rooted, but I haven't unlocked my bootloader yet.
What I am looking for
- Better battery life, RAM usage and speed than Touchwiz
- Working 4G/essential functions (not too concerned about the Spen)
- Stability
- Mostly stock
- Android 6+ hopefully
I'm using AryaMod v6.5 and it runs pretty smooth, compared to other ROMs. There's no NFC and the radio sometimes dumps after a call (requires a quick airplane mode toggle), but other than that, it runs like a champ! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3326976
Be sure to use TWRP v2.8(?) and not the v3.(???), as the newer TWRP doesn't play nice with the AROMA installer. If you are in the US and your carrier is the big red V, pick the Sprint version and Mexico (unbranded) for your country. Getting Visual Voicemail is a bit tricky, but can be done, if you have a good TiBU backup of it and keep your Internal Data files for it.
Of course, there's are a few CM ROMs out there too, but I don't have a lot of experience with them, as they were a bit buggy, when I was flashing them a few months back. At any rate, I hope this helps! Happy flashing! ?
P.S.: If it isn't already obvious, full Nandroid backups are your friend. ?

Nope! A lot of other ROMs require tweaking the SMSC and whatnot, but it's worked right after the flash, for me. (It must've pulled it from my SIM card...?) Seeing as how the radio is a little wonky after calls, if you *do* have failed SMS issues, a simple airplane mode toggle seems to clear it up.

Is there any particular reason why Xposed for Android 7.0 might not come at all? Did Google try to screw us again in some way by making it semi-impossible to use Xposed, or is this just a matter of time before it starts working on Nougat?

Xposed is made and maintained by only 1 guy who does it in his free time. And it works on a level that's mostly undocumented. I don't know if it's ever gonna work. And this is about everything that's know about it. But I believe that if this wasn't a one-man's-job/hobby, but maintained by a collective of professionals, it would be launched much faster (and much more stable).

That's amazing, I did not know that. It seemed to me that Xposed was developed by a team of XDA members, not just a single person. That's commendable.
So, jenana, I reckon your recommendation for people that want a good rooted phone would be to roll back from 7.0 to 6.0.1 and stay there forever with a working and stable Xposed?
After battling with Google Play services for two weeks, I am quite tired of this rom's behaviour. I get more usage from GPS than I do from my screen. It drains absurd amounts of battery for no good reason, with stopped location. I get 3 days of standby with this phone, with a 2700mAh battery. Nexus 5X - 8 DAYS on standby with wi-fi on. Play services drained 60mAh for 8 DAYS. It has the same 2700mAh capacity!!!
So, absolutely the same capacity, but one phone gets 3 days of standby, the other 8 days. Sure. Makes good sense, right?
I am almost done trying to deal with this crap. Love the feel of 7, but if I am going to get 0.0% drain on a fully rooted MM with working Xposed... the choice seems easy.
Shame on google for being such dic*s when it comes to battery. From what I have gathered, these wakelocks are forced by google and collect information that is of absolutely no use to us, but of big use to them, at the cost of our batteries. I have no issue believing that, because it makes much more sense than Google not being able to fix a bug for 5 years since KitKat, that is destroying the most important part of our devices. The only logical conclusion is that these wakelocks are forced on purpose to work for Google's needs.

I think that depends on how you want to use your phone, more specifically how you weigh the balance between security and usability/flexibility. If one or more Xposed module(s) is absolutely critical for you, enough that you can ignore the updated security patches in Nougat, then it might suit you better to stay on MM with Xposed. But if you value security over what Xposed modules offers you, then by all means upgrade to Nougat.
For me, I'm staying on MM with Xposed. I'm aware of the possible risks, and I believe my internet usage and practices are decent enough. The security levels for the Z5C were never up to date anyway.

For me, I'm staying on MM with Xposed. I'm aware of the possible risks, and I believe my internet usage and practices are decent enough. The security levels for the Z5C were never up to date anyway.

That's a fair point. Including the one about not being up to date anyway, heh.
Yet, I imagined you can defend yourself fairly well on MM with the Xposed framework, combined with having strict control over apps, firewall, anti-vir, etc.
I am by no means knowledgeable on this subject, though, so excuse my ignorance. It just bugs me too much that my phone can do much better if the software is properly set up. Stock is alright by me, but not having control over these absurd wakelocks is just killing my fun, in a way. My old Z1 lasted 5 days on 4.4 with pretty normal usage, and at least 2-3 days with heavy usage. Android L then instantly cut that time to 3 days (factory resets never helped), from which the phone never recovered. Then it gradually started lasting 1-2 days with the final updates I got OTA. The Z1 actually DID last about 25 days in ULTRA stamina mode. It had other serious issues, but the battery was absolutely glorious on KitKat.
I know that my Z5C is capable of even more, because the 6.0.1 management can take it to a full ~30 days in ultra mode, if you keep it idle the whole time. The "normal" usage should be about 5 days, easily. Heavy usage should be 1-2, possibly even 3 days. Definitely not just 1 day.
That's what I expect from this device and I know it's realistic. It just has to be achieved and does take some effort and skill, of which I am lacking the second a bit.
Guys, I've tried systemless v87 Xposed with Magisk 11.1, 10, 9, and Official v87, 86.2, 86 Xposed with SuperSU 2.79 and with 3 different kernels (modified stock, AndroPlus and Sunkernel from Zacharias) on my Z5 compact on Android 6.0.1 (Australian firmware). All the time the phone gets super slow, lags to the point of unusable, buttons and screen take minutes to respond, sometimes random reboots. What could be the problem? I noticed that while on WiFi at home phone seems to work fine, while on mobile network it starts lagging pretty quickly. What combination works for you best? Also which firmware do you use instead of USA to activate fingerprint sensor? I appreciate any help.
