Not showing app updates on fresh install - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I have a nexus 4 flashed with stock lollipop 5.1.0 with 5.1.1 update.
After the first flash I added my Google account, all worked fine, Google play store saw that the stock apps needed updating.
I have since reset it to factory, put a new gmail account for the main user, but despite updating Google play services, the store does not show any apps for update.
The only difference I can think of is that my account has credit and the new email address doesn't but I suspect this has nothing to do with it.
TIA

Did a factory reset, then put my account in and the updates appear. Very odd. More investigation to be done.

Downloaded the updates, added the new account, removed my account, back to no updates showing in Google play and having the 3 apps I have manually updated in the list.

Push broken after clearing Google Services Framework

Two days ago, I made one big mistake: I accidentally cleared the Google Services Framework, since then, I'm not getting any push notifications for Apps like Hangouts, Tapatalk, Threema, Inbox, Gmail and co.
I tried clearing cache, reboot, removing and readding my Google account and starting the SetupWizardActivity via adb, nothing helped.
Is there any possible fix but factory reset?
Android Version: 5.0.1 stock unrooted
Thanks in advance
Flash the system.img with fastboot from the 5.0.1 factory image
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I will try and report back, thanks.
Currently it looks like it's working now without having flashed the image.
This is what I did: Uninstalled updates from the Google Play Services, installed update, removed Google Account, rebooted, readded Google Account, cleared caches, rebooted.

Google Play services no longer working

Hello,
I just upgraded from Kitkat 4.4.2 to Lollipop 5.0.1 via Kies. The phone was rooted and became unrooted, of course. Everything went fine with the upgrade and re-rooting after some trouble shooting.
However, I noticed, that after auto-update of Google Play services, that those would always stop working after reboot. Before that update, everything was fine. So I did a factory reset, and even flashed the unrooted version again, but this did not help for long since Google Play services would start crashing again after the next update.
My Lolipop 5.0.1 version is I9505XXUHOB7, the working stock version of Google Play services is 6.5.something, while the version that I got via auto-update is the newest 7.0.99. After some backup restoring and factory resetting I finally figured out that I could revert Google Play services to stock version after removing the device admin setting, and flash any version from apkmirror.com. Now I know that all versions of Google Play services above 7.x and newer definitely *will* crash on my S4 with the new Lollipop.
Does anybody know about this? As I wrote, this happens on a clean unrooted install after factory reset as well. The last working version of Google Play services for me is com.google.android.gms-6.7.76_(1745988-438)-6776438-minAPI21. Older versions will not crash, but I will keep messages that Maps, Gmail or such things require a newer version. Now I am wondering which update of those apps will break my phone again...
Google will automatically restore settings related to your device when you sign in to your Google Play account, thus a factory reset does nothing here. You need to wipe Google Play Services' data, preferably after the update to the latest version. Then reboot and see if anything changes.
Thx for the reply, but I when the phone asks, I always deny to store anything on Google servers. I have my own backups. And, it worked with the initial install and only stopped working after the Google Play services update. Would that not mean that every user must be affected? I read a lot that Google Play services stop working recently, but no apparent explanation.
Edit: I just noticed that, without me doing anything, Google Play services got auto-updated to the faulty new version again, crashing again. Very annoying. I tried the solution with deleting all data, but that helped noting. I reverted to the last functioning version manually.
Is there a way to prevent this auto-update?
Just had a chat with Samsung Support (there seems to be no way to officially address this issue with Google directly). They were not aware of the problem until now and walked me through a couple of steps. Unfortunatelly, nothing helped. They promised to address the issue to Samsung development. Hope this helps, but small hope it is...

[Q] Can't install apps from google play website

The usual problem - I flashed a custom ROM, signed into my gmail account, then restored the backup of my main ROM,
Now I can't install apps from a PC browser on G Play, it works fine on the phone, just not from the PC
I've cleared cache, data of play store and google services from the phone
Remove my account and re-added it
Removed all devices permissions from my account and set them back up
rebooted the phone
Ive run out of ideas, anyone know what's up?
The device shown in my account is saying it's last access was the 26th, which was about when I flashed that custom ROM, so I'm guessing it's still not seeing my current ROM even after all of that
PITA Google, why make things so complicated ?
Anyone know how to remove that old device and force it to see my current one?

I've fixed it, there was no error, it just refused to detect the phone at all, when I pressed INSTALL on the website, it only gave options of my old April 26th ROM, not my current one
Finally after booting to recovery and clearing all caches, then opening Play store app on the phone, it finally (After 20 tries) detected the phone again and works as it should
That's 2 days of using my phone, that the play store web version failed to detect the phone at all
Come on Google, get it sorted, this has been going on for years, I remember the same problem back in 2012 with my tablet

Google Play doesn't auto update apps

hello, I use android 5.0 lollipop.
Google play doesn't auto update and doesn't show notifications for update waiting apps. When I clear "data" for Google Play Store it starts to show notifications, but when I open Google Play , it asks me about google campaigns and agreements, I accept it, and after this process problem starts again.
I am sure this is about the "data" that Google Play uses. Problem disappears when I clear data. Problem starts again after first usage. (first window)
I tried deleting cache and data for Google play services too. I did factory reset and I removed Google Account. Nothing helps.
Thank you.
Try updating the play store
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-store/
And clear cache/data for google services / framework
i tried, still no luck.
ive been having issues with updating apps on my s5.
i got an error code 963
it seems to be with apps ive moved to sd card.
i read something about new android OS after a certain version are not allowing apps to stored in sd card.
i unistalled playstore and reinstalled it and i aldo moved the apps to device storage and both those actions or one of them by itself allowed the apps to update
i dont know if it was just uninstalling the playstore or moving the app to device storage though. thought id share my experience
mine is the sm-g900r4

You already said "I did factory reset and I removed Google Account. Nothing helps"
What extra do you think you can achieve without re-flashing a ROM, that a factory reset couldn't fix?

sorry i am just a beginner user ,i have 2 questions
-if i do flashing rom will my phone out of warranty?
-can i see/change Google Play Store files on my phone? i have no root access
thanks.
No you won't lose warranty flashing STOCK ROMs with ODIN
You will lose warranty if you flash anything custom
Which Google store files are you talking about?
And if you had access to them, being a beginner, what would you be looking for, and what would you change, again, that a factory reset did not achieve ?
Unbelievable !
I flashed last stock rom but problem continues.
I check manually most days, and just update any that are sitting waiting
Not sure if there is like a set time period it waits before auto updating, but the notifications for available updates will likely only happen if you disable auto updates, otherwise it has no reason to tell you there are updates waiting, it will/should just update them and tell you once it's done
So try this:
1. Disable auto updates in Google Play settings
2. Wait for a few days until there are some updates available
See if you get notifications
If yes, try this:
1. Enable Auto updates in Google Play
2. Wait a full week without manually updating, see if they auto update

After January Security Update various Google Apps are crashing. Plz Help.

Friends, I updated my Mi A1 to January Security Patch a few days ago. But then Google Now started crashing, then Google App refused to open coz of error Google Stopped, Assistant crashed as well, Gmail stopped, Google Opinion Rewards stopped, third party app like bluemail stopped.
This was very irritating. I cleared cache of Google App, Google Play Services, uninstalled their updates but nothing worked.
So at last I made a backup of the data and reset the phone. Hoping that it'll solve the problem. And actually it did untill I update the Gapps to lastest version and again Google App, Assistant, Gmail, Google rewards started crashing.
Again had to take a backup and reset the phone. Now I havent updated any GApp and no crashing till now.
I dont know why it is happening. Any concrete solution please?
try factory reset , without restore data.
or
try flash use miflash.

But this notification "Android System: Google Play Store is running in the background" is a new annoyance. Is it normal? (Never saw it for Play store before)
