T-Mobile APN - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please see the pictures. Shouldn't it say T-Mobile US LTE?
CHECK those slow data speeds! T-Mobile submitted a ticket but jeez this is terrible.
When I log onto my T-Mobile it says "unknown" device for my 6P. The rep gave me the whole not a T-Mobile device so speeds aren't blah. I said well it is unlocked device but has network coverage heck you partner with Google for Fi!
I receive MMS SMS etc fine just concerned about the data speeds!

I'm getting these exact same slow speeds! I thought I was the only one. I changed my APN protocol to IPV4/IPV6 added the MMSC address that's used for the Nexus 6 on T-Mobile's website but still not seeing changes.

I am getting the same slow speeds on my Nexus 6 purchased thru T-Mobile, so the fact that the phone is "not a T-Mobile phone" does not fly. As long as performance isn't affected, I do not care. Browsing, streaming music and videos are not affected by the readings from SpeedTest.

I have 6P with default APN settings. I get 50 to 30 MB/s down and 30 to 9 MB/s up.
First I would check data usage on My T-Mobile site. Then try forcing 3G (HSPA+) to see if speeds improve.
Could be an issue with the tower or you are getting throttled.

Man, you saved me. I have tried all the different APN changes and other "fixes" around the internet and none were working. I even used T-Mobiles website APN and nothing. I am using Textra so it should work but I was getting nothing. Well...I was able to get mms messages but only if I turned off WiFi but I live being on WiFi all day so that was not an option. I then came across your post and change my APN to what you have and that fixed my issue, no need to turn WiFi off. Thanks!

I know this is an old thread, but this suggestion worked well for me since recently switching to T-Mobile.
The one issue I had when having "mms" in the APN Type field, I was not able to send MMS messages. Removing "mms" fixed the problem.

Nexus 6p and 5x apn for t-mobile/metropcs
Where it says apn type input this default,mms,supl,hipri,fota,ims,cbs. Worked for me im getting volte and wifi calling. Dont forget to also update your e911 address.

Unbearable Browser Froyo ATT 3G Image Compression [FIXED]

As suspected it was something with the ATT APN settings that google added with their latest iteration of the carrier settings. It would run your browsing through the ATT proxy and if images were larger than a specified threshold, they would shrink them down to an unbearably small size making mobile browsing painful, if not impossible in some cases.
How to Fix:
Go to Settings - Wireless & Networks - Mobile Networks - Access Point Names - Cingular 410 (or for some Media)
Delete the text in the settings for
Proxy
Port
They should now appear as <Not Set>
Hit the menu and select Save.
MMS still seems to function normally and web browsing is just fine.
You may however, need to clear out your cache of the old super thumbnails.

Like a majority of you, I hopped on the Froyo train and it was quite delicious.
Now however, something about the browser is driving me up a wall, to the point of not really being usable.
This also seems to effect 2.1 Desire users, using their device on ATT.
This is an ATT 3G Nexus One - with the Pauls Froyo rom
When on a 3G data connection something is both compressing and resizing the images, not a little, but a whole blasted lot and I cannot seem to figure out what or why.
I realize carriers often compress images, but this is an absurd level of compression.

Clear cache, everything cleared.
This is what it looks like on 3G
I cannot even get close to reading it. Zoomed in the picture is just absurdly small.
I tried about:debug
Changed my UAString to desktop, same deal. I cannot view certain web pages at all.
That is the final kicker, it is only pictures above a certain size that it compresses them this badly.
If I load up a site with smaller pictures they are just fine, I imagine some 100k limit.
I keep searching but all I can find are threads about the overall fuzziness of the N1 screen, this is well beyond fuzziness and is somehow tied to the carrier, the browser or both.
I noticed this occurred with the Desire rom as well, but I didn't stick to that long and quickly went back to a non desire rom. This did not occur on non desire N1 roms.

Was something added to the ATT APN settings?
Is there a hidden setting that compresses images disgustingly?
I did the same tests on Dolphin and Dolphin HD, other than annoying force closing, they showed the exact same results.

-This occurs on all browsers
-If one hold clicks on and image, selecting "Save Image" it downloads the picture in full quality...
Not sure what to tell you... I turned off WiFi and just used 3G to get to the site you mentioned and no issues here. Could be a local proxy setting that sends it to a cache site for AT&T and that site has a mini image. I have no need to use AT&T's proxy's to get to their mobile home page so I may have it turned off someplace. I just checked a couple of settings and nothing gives me the option to turn proxy settings on or off from what I found. My only bugs(so far) with Froyo are app related--Dolphin HD closes whenever you touch the address bar and HTC_IME FC's whenever you try and pop the KB up.

I wonder if it is truly a localized setting or something with the att settings. I'm going to try shutting down, booting up without my sim, shutting down again and putting the sim back in. Maybe I just need a network setting refresh.
As for HTC IME, I installed the version without voice and disabled voice from appearing on the keyboard and it works great for me. Much better than the stock keyboard.
Smooth Calendar widget doesnt work, Handcent force closes after returning home from sending a sms and Dolphin force closes when hitting the address bar (both HD and non).
Otherwise, those I can deal with, this is making mobile browsing not possible.

No such luck with the refresh, took the sim out, reboot, let it boot empty and restarted with the sim in. Same exact issue.

I'm on AT&T running rooted FroYo and I also have a drastically downsized image just like the OP. It is in fact completely unreadable, no matter how you zoom in or double-tap.
We need to find a solution for this.

yeah, this is q very serious issue that really puts a damper on mobile browsing that needs to be worked out. I imagine it is a carrier setting for ATT that is new to froyo, but I have no idea where some kind of setting like this would be hidden.
I hadnt noticed that but yep, got this as well. Works correctly on wifi but not on 3g.

(At this time we are all on the same froyo build, but now Chefs are pushing out custom Froyo roms, so that is changing!)

Honestly this is a bit absurd, I would be annoyed if it did this by default but you could override it and load an image in full quality by request, but someone, ATT or Google is tanking these images and we need to figure out how / why.

I realize that, it loaded just fine on my 2.1 as well.
Only other time I saw this was on one Desire Port, but I flashed back to a standard 2.1 because I needed bluetooth.
It was something added in Froyo, we need to figure out what and why, and how to get rid of it.
At first I didn't think I had the issue, but when I hit menu + refresh in 3g mode, the pictures went all thumbnail on me. I am looking for a setting.
does the same issue occur in Skyfire, Dolphin HD, or Opera Mini? Seems like a pretty stupid thing to change when you're upgrading the browser in so many other way for Froyo.

It is stated in the first post and even shown in a picture that this occurs in other browsers.
This is shown to occur in both Dolphin and Dolphin HD -
Opera Mini 5 with picture size set to full it loads normally.
Sadly though, Opera Mini uses server side rendering, thus it really isn't pulling it straight through the device and Skyfire... is well... Skyfire is RDP with a skin on it - so it would be excluded in this case
Try comparing the APN settings between someone who gets the resized pictures, and someone who doesn't. It could be some of you are using a different AT&T APN that is made for smaller phones, WAP-like browsing, not a smart phone one.

I think we have a winner. There has been a few issues where the update to Froyo incorrectly set the APN for your carrier (like using a carrier alternative APN instead of the main one), so it could very well be this.

Thank you for posting your settings, but are you able to view the site clearly? Without image compression?
I think the culprit is the APN Type so. Yours is APN Type: default,supl,mms while it should be left blank, as well as the proxy.

Changing this and restarting the connection does nothing.
Fixed it!
Clearing the Proxy and Port lines of the APN settings did the trick. Pages load in their full glory now.

How To Fix 3g Data Loss (TELUS T959D)

NOTE** THIS IS FOR TELUS FASCINATE T959D NOT VERIZON
So to fix the data loss I just went to settings -> Wireless And Network -> Mobile Networks -> Network operators -> Search now, once your Telus is found click that. Make sure Use packet data is checked up top. Now click on Access Point Names If it's empty make new APN with these settings and if its not empty make sure the settings match these ones.
These settings should work for all of Canada, i am unaware if Telus is in the states and if so not sure these same settings will work or not.

I unlocked my telus phone and am trying to use it on the fido network. The Voice and sms features work, but no data. I have tried the apn settings recommended by xda, still no data. Is this a software issue or is fido punishing me for using a non-fido phone?
Im debating flashing the rom, but im not sure if that will solve my issue.

What is the FIDO APN information you've put in?
Take a look at these settings and make sure they are the same:

For tethering, you'd need to root your phone and get titanium backup and disable the application TetheringManager
The APN setting i had tried were very similar to that.
However these apn setting (excluding the MNC#) also do not permit my phone to have data.
How did you change your MNC?
When i try to change my 370 to 37 it deletes the APN profile.
These APN setting didnt work either, but i found it interesting that Fido has so many APN possibilities:

Hate to ask an ignorant question but what are the symptoms of data loss, what problem does this fix?
Hopefully you know how to turn your data on and off, but basically when its on and you still can't load webpages or do anything data related. If you HAVE to be connected to wifi to do any web browsing and such then this would fix that.

[Q] ATT Blocking 3G Data Plan for Galaxy Tab 7.7

I just purchased a new Galaxy Tab 7.7 from Negri. I went to ATT to get a new DATA ONLY SIM card for the device but it will not work properly.
The device sees the DATA SIM and has 4 bars but I cannot get online.
If I put the DATA SIM into my old Galaxy Tab 7 it works just fine. I can also put my iPhone SIM into my 7.7 and it works fine.
I took the DATA SIM back to the ATT store and they told me that because it can be used as a phone the system is blocking it from using a 3G Data SIM. They also gave me a new DATA SIM just in case but that did not work.
Possible Solutions?
1. Is there something I can tell ATT to get the data only block removed.
2. Is there an alternate APN setting that I can use that will allow me to use 3G Data only.
3. Something else?

Have you tried using the above settings for MMS, and using the "Phone" APN for WAP yet?
Just set your APN to Phone, and leave everything else blank. Modify the second APN you listed to MMS only instead of Internet and MMS. See if that works.
You must have it named "Broadband". All the other settings seem right- that was my experience last weekend. Here are my settings:

Yep, you have to add the "Broadband" APN. That's what I'm using with the SIM from my AT&T Elevate hotspot.

This worked! Thank you! I spent the entire morning at the ATT store then the entire afternoon with Technical support. Nobody had a clue. Final verdict was that I HAD to get a Phone plan in order to get this to work.
How is your data speed with this APN? I am getting ping=100ms down=1.0-2mb up=100k-1mb. (same as my iPhone so that is a good sign)

This worked! Thank you! I spent the entire morning at the ATT store then the entire afternoon with Technical support. Nobody had a clue. Final verdict was that I HAD to get a Phone plan in order to get this to work.
How is your data speed with this APN? I am getting ping=100ms down=1.0-2mb up=100k-1mb. (same as my iPhone so that is a good sign)

Your speeds seem normal. I guess I hadn't read your OP properly to see that you were using a data-only SIM. In addition to the Broadband APN, isp.cingular also works.

In most cases, the speeds are about the same. The isp.cingular is the legacy APN, so you may get higher ping times, but as more and more folks use the Broadband and Phone APN's, sometimes the old APN can be faster overall as it becomes less crowded. Either way, it's nice to have options at your disposal

I had the same experience-it was the 3rd technical support person I spoke to that finally got me up and running and it was that one word (broadband) that had been the issue.

Just want to chime in here. I have the 7.7... I purcahsed it online. Its the 3G version. Now all I did was take my SIM card out of my dumb phone (LG c500) and placed it in my Tab 7.7 and it worked for data and phone calls. I was able to keep it on with the $10 unlimitted data (for non smartphones) since AT&T system (at the time) saw it as an unsupported PHONE. Well after a few weeks I began getting text messages stating something regarding I need to purchae a data plan ... something to that effect, however the device still shows up as non-supported. so i put my sim back in my old LG c500 for a few days and then back into my 7.7 and I am good to go. If you just get a non-smartphone and get a normal plan ........ add $15 for the non smartphone unlimitted data and you would be good to go. that's what I did and last month I was at 3.5GB of data and did not get throttled. The device will be an unrecognized device on at&t and you will only pay the $15 for data. Well worth getting the plan or just adding a line of service. Just don't tell them its a tablet. In fact you could just as easily pick up a go phone for $14 to $15 bucks and use the sim card.

Didn't work for me. Data seems okay my main issues are with MMSC MMS proxy and MMS port. I got 6.2Mbps on Cingular and 5Mbps on wap.tracfone. I couldn't even get tfdata to work.
If anyone has working MMS settings for this phone please post m

The various forums have been jam packed with issues regarding APN's and AT&T straight talk the last week or two, and I have not come across a straight answer why. I even read where there is a lawsuit going on between AT&T and Straight Talk. For some, the old APN's are needed, for others the new ones are needed, for still others neither set of values work. It seems that a lot of people who's refill card ran out or just renewed had to go with the new APNs.
I lost data too a week ago and straight talk had me re-enter my APN values and data magically came back. Now if I could only get data faster than 1 Mbps that would be nice.
These are the values that straight talk had me enter that fixed my data (I don't have the original ones from 4 months ago so I am not sure there is a difference or not):

As I stated in my post, the first set of APN values fixed my data. As I also stated in my post, I don't know if they are the same values as the ones I entered 4 months ago when I first bought my phone, because I no longer have the ones from 4 months ago to compare them two. The new APN values (the second set in my post) did not work at all for me.

My service renewed on the 7th and I have had no problem with Data or MMS so far that I've noticed and I didn't have to change any APN settings... that's really odd...

So, I sent an MMS from my phone to myself with the working APN settings and it worked (Took about 10 minutes because I have a -90 to -100 dbm data signal at my house). Plain SMS texts sent from Google to my phone also work.
I hate to drag this thread back up but I have tried every single MMS setting in this thread and not one has worked. Some of the IPs and URLs listed dont reply to a ping, which makes me believe they arent even up.

I was on the phone with Straight Talk Cust-Service and he said that MMS is not guaranteed for BYOD customers. (Disregard my question if you have an N4) Did you buy your phone from Straight Talk?

I have no problem with data, but I cannot receive MMS (I can send just fine). This seems to be a problem for multiple people with multiple phone types at the straight talk forum.

This is the same issue I had... Could send but not receive MMS messages, spent 4 hours on the phone with tech support who rebuilt my account twice and couldn't get working, finally to be told they don't guarantee it to work and my phone wasn't compatible with there service. Never did get it working, finally switched to go phone and never had a problem since... That being said, the only thing I didn't try was the SIM swap.

Geez, you are replying to a post from June, and yes my post was about a change that Straight Talk did that killed data for a lot of people that week. I have never had a problem with MMS with the original sim card with the att.mvno values that I have shown. My new LTE sim card however required that I delete all APN entries, use the tfdata version of the APN as listed on Straight Talks's web site, and I also added APN Type: default,supl,mms, but I am not sure which one of those two things (or multiple things) fixed the problem, but now I have MMS with the new card.

thanks for the reply. I have tried multiple things since posting including a long list from here which does include the APN Type: default,supl,mms with no luck. outgoing MMS fine, incoming no dice. next step is call them to reprovision my sim. I may switch to AIO after this month...

Nexus 4 AT&T MMS won't send and receive even with APN settings

Hello guys,
I tried multiple APN settings, and I can't get the pictures to send or receive them. Do I need to do anything with AT&T and call them? It's a post paid plan.
Here's what I tried:
APN Settings
Data on (it worked a bit), then stopped
Data off (I don't have a data plan, and I don't want one, any APN settings to prevent one being added?) doesn't work
Wifi-off, wifi-on, doesn't work
Am I missing something?
Like I said, I don't have a data plan, I can't affor the $360 a year for it either since I have a ton of wifi around me.

As in reset them to default? I did, I end up with three of them: ATT Phone, ATT Wap, and Tracfone. I tried both the ATT phone, ATT Wap, both with cellular data on and off.
The pictures won't sent.
With my ATT HTC Inspire, data off, and wifi on I could receive and send pictures.
I'm so lost and I can't really afford to get that data plan yet

Do I need data to be turned on to send MMS, as in from the phone? Because AT&T will charge me $2 per mb, so I keep it off. The inspire had cellular data turned off from the phone and worked fine with MMS.
Should I select one of the three default APN's? Or not select any???
I also came from an Inspire to the N4. You do realize that the Inspire was turning data on to send and receive MMS and then turning it off don't you? The data used was not charged to your allotment because it is included with the messaging plan. The N4 will do the same thing, but you don't have data available because you have no plan.

I didn't have a plan with the inspire too, just had it manually turned off from my phone.
Even if I turn the mobile data on manually, it won't send, that's the problem with this phone.
I was able to add a dumbphone unlimited data plan for $10 with att, can anything go wrong with this???
Using att go phone micro sim, stock build JWR66Y, using APN phone, wap.cingular and can not receive any mms at all. I can send mms find and get data fine. Anyone got any ideas to try. Posted some screen shots

Tried both, neither worked. The weirdest part is if you send a picture, and it's in the "sending" stage, and reboot your phone, right when the phone turns on, it will send. Then after about a minute they won't send anymore. Same thing will happen if you hurry up and try to send a pic right when it reboots.
