I just flashed to CM13 in my S5 and realized the lack of exFAT support on the external SD card (64gb Samsung pro)
are there plans to add this, or do I need a different ROM? (Does CM12.1 support exFAT SD cards?)

Samsung Galaxy S4 stock roms support EXFAT on external sdcards (the cards mount just fine).
However, I would like to know if the external sdcard encryption, featured in Samsung stock roms as opposed to aosp roms, also supports EXFAT
I tested the encryption on a EXFAT formatted 2GB microsd card. It didn't work, but this is probably due to the fact that it does not make sense to use EXFAT on a 2GB card. I haven't been able to test on 64GB or 128GB cards yet because I do not own one of these.

i love 99% of this phone but for me i NEED exfat support for the sd card!
again i just lost some info on the internal memory for flashing thats why i never trust internal memory.
on all my other phones i use large sd cards formatted with exfat to hold large important files but this phone dosent support it and its frustrating. i dont like to use the internal storage at all. i have a 128GB SD card. i see that some other xiaomi devices have mods to enable this support.

There is a module for Magisk to support exfat for sdCard... I think it's an official one in repo: Vold - exFAT/NTFS/EXT4/F2FS support.

As I could experience exFAT formated micro SD cards are not supported. Neither via internal SD slot nor via OTG.
Do you share my opinion?

As most of you probably now, sometimes the Note 3 simply don't want to detect the media from SD Card. Well I detected another issue related to SD Card. If you try to delete a photo (for example) via Gallery app it'll be "erased" but you can still see the file in the SD Card with any file explorer.
I tested this with a Samsung 32GB SD Card, Toshiba 16GB SD Card and Nokia 2GB SD Card, the Toshiba and Nokia SD Card with FAT32 mode and exFAT.
I tested this on AEX 6.0, AEX 6.1, latest Havoc OS (2.4 right now), latest RR (7.0.1 now), latest CrDroid (9.0 now) and lastest dotOS (3.0 2019-04-10) all of them Android 9.0.
