OTG Works? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can mount otg devices but can only use it to transfer files off to internal memory for some reason i cannot access otg devices from 3rd party file browsers or video/music players. NVM has something to do with the Storage Access Framework.

[Q] How to get content onto A7

As you cannot mount the A7 as a device via USB - and therefore cannot use an app like DoubleTwist to sync/move content from PC/Mac to the A7 - how do you get content onto A7?
And if the answer is USB thumb drive, where (and how) do you move music, movies etc to be played from micro SD card?
Many thanks for any advice!
i use andftp for most of my content transfer. if you're syncing b/w pc/mac/android i'd recommend something like dropbox. if you're using usb flash drive, use OI File Manager (or Astro or any other file manager) to transfer from flash drive to internal memory or sd card. usb is mounted as something like /sdcard/usb-disk0 and sd is mounted like /sdcard/sdcard-disk0. on my galaxy s, it's mounted as /sdcard/sd so that mount for the sd card can be confusing. as for double twist, i haven't used it, so i'm not sure where you would place those files.
Go to the market try websharing. This app allows you to access the A7 through your local wireless network to browse and transfer files using port 2112. So install the app, start the app then open your web browser on your PC and type the A7 IP address as such: http://XX.XX.XX.XX:2112
I appreciate the replies. Not knowing anything about Android - as we are an Apple shop - how does the music player 'know' to play content from the micro SD card?
And - where do you copy music, movies to on the microSD?
Many thanks

[Q] Install Apps on external memory using OTG

There is a way to install app to an external memory connected via OTG cable on Nexus 4?
Or use the external memory like a SD Card?
Ways to do that probably do exist but wouldn't that make these apps/games load and run slower than actually installing them in internal ?

[Q] Unable to write to USB OTG mounted ext. HDD

As title says, having trouble copying files from the nexus 7 into an external HDD or a USB stick, only able to read from it. Any way to work around this?
Working on stock ROM, rooted and unlocked. Using stickmount.
Try with custom kernel

Will try. Thanks!
No custom kernel is needed for storage formatted with fat32. I'm stock, rooted, 4.2.1, with the latest stickmount. I bought the pro to support the dev. I can read/write to external storage using the OTG cable. I can play music and videos from the thumbdrive or sdcard reader. I think the stickmount dev is working on ntfs support, which has previously required kernel support. But if your storage is fat32, there should be no problem accessing it.

What file manager did you use? Try another and see.
Also, I found this in an article on howtogeek:
"Your USB drive should ideally be formatted with the FAT32 file system for maximum compatibility. Some Android devices may also support the exFAT file system. No Android devices will support Microsoft's NTFS file system, unfortunately."
Although this might not be the same for all devices, I've tried to use an NTFS hard drive, which mounts as read-only in ES explorer.
Try Total Commander with USB plugin, or StickMount if you have root.

Best way to add media to USB drive attached to shield

Can anyone tell me the best way to transfer files to the usb flash drive attached to the shield? I tried accessing the usb drive from my computer network but could only get into the 16gb internal but not my attached usb? Any reasons why?
Hello mmar141, You cannot access the removable storage connected to the Shield over the network, You can access Only the Shield's main storage or the drives that are converted Into Adoptable storage can be accessed over the network!
