Hi,
does anyone use Helium Backup with an unrooted stock 6P? I tried it, but I can't do a backup. Helium asked for a password. I tried the password that I used at the setup of the phone but no success.
Is there another app/program to backup my app data without root?
thx,
Clou
obligatory ME TOO.
I was able to restore a helium backup from my 1+1 to the phone with 6.0. I did not try a back up on 6.0, but it is certainly not working on 6.0.1.
Got a lockscreen PIN? Just saying, if you don't have one or have other lockscreen security, just try setting up that and using that in Helium. Not 100% sure it will work, but in past cases when the OS asks me about weird passwords this worked.

I have tried it, pin, password nothing is working. First installation I had a pattern, so I did a wipe and set a password instead of the pattern, but still no backup is possible
same here... i had no problems restoring apps and or data between phones until 6.01

Hey all,
I tried searching the forums for this but I didn't seem to find anything:
I literally just got my N4 yesterday, and I have a question about Google Wallet. I'm currently running the stock rom and kernel, and my wallet is working. If I flash a custom ROM, will I have to do anything to ensure my Wallet will work on the new ROM?
I have hardware revision 11 if that matters.
Thanks!

I would suggest going into Wallet > Settings > Reset Google Wallet app before you flash any ROMs or restore backups. Not doing this has been known to brick the Secure Elements of other phones like the Galaxy Nexus.

Almost certain this procedure became unnecessary sometime in late 2012 when Wallet reverted to a cloud based method. I haven't reset wallet for a long time between my Nexus S, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 and Wallet has activated and worked fine every single time and have done a decent amount of flashing between all those devices.
My Nexus 7 (2013) will be arriving today. I unlocked the bootloader on my Galaxy Nexus to flash TAKJU, since the Canadian version of Android was updated by Samsung (a dumb situation that delayed updates), so it made sense to unlock.
I don't flash ROMs or tinker in any way - I only want the device to have the latest version of stock Android. Is there any compelling reason to unlock the bootloader of the Nexus 7, before I start loading my apps and configure my Google accounts?
I suppose if I leave it locked the device will have greater security.
I think the best reason is so you can flash custom recovery and make backups. You could also root and do all the good things that come with that.

Reasons for me:
+ Titanium Backup
+ Browser replacement (to stock browser, not chrome)
+ Custom Recovery (for backup and restoring)
I have the LTE version, so therefore there is no custom rom yet.
I just unlocked the bootloader to temporary boot TWRP and create a Nandroid backup.

Available in Europe.
Most unlock to install/try different ROMs. Also, recall that when you do unlock at a later time, it does wipe your device; so may be worthwhile to unlock right now while you're still setting it up so you don't have to go through that again.

1) unlocking process will trigger factory reset for security, so best to do it before you install everything, if you will ever need it in the future
2) even if you never root or make any changes, one day you will probably need to restore factory images, in which case you'll need to be unlocked
I think the main reason is the erase that unlocking causes. If you unlock right away, you don't lose anything or need to back and restore sdcard, etc.
Good answers so far, plus I also unlock in order to flash OTA updates as soon as they are linked to in this forum.

Not a problem: I have the lock screen turned off too .
Best reason to unlock your bootloader asap:
So you don't have to lose all your data later if you decide to root.
Unlocking your bootloader will wipe all your data but effectively doesn't do anything so you still get OTA updates and 100% stock.

Yes, must unlock bootloader or the system partition is write protected and any root you tried to install would be lost at next reboot.
I installed Pure Nexus on my Nexus 6P the other day. I was using the phone as stock for the past couple of months. I'm an old user of CM mind you.
Since the last 2 days, Ive had nothing but problems with the ROM. I've got several apps that keep crashing,, namely Minimalistic Text, Camera and others. This never happened at all on stock. Even when I use Airdroid to scan the QR code, it uses the wrong camera.
Unfortunately, I've decided to flush Pure Nexus and just in the middle of flashing CM 13 and will try it in a few minutes.
I think I've given enough time for Pure Nexus, but I can't blame the apps that I'm using, as I've used them before on various ROMs on my old Nexus 4 without incident as well as on my Nexus 7.
I've tried to post in another forum thread but since I'm unable to as I haven't posted many times, the forum has driven me here instead.

Hey Barry,
After you flashed Pure Nexus ROM, did you delete the cache? I would try it again, since things can go wrong and others are on Pure Nexus without issue.
deleted cache, dalvik, wiped entire phone, yes

Try flashing vendor image. Pure Nex is a solid rom one of the most stable roms there is.

Maybe grab some logs of these apps crashing and post them on pure nexus thread.

the apps you are having issues with, did you restore those from a backup (i.e. Titanium Backup)? If so i'd clear the app data/cache and force close them. Typically that helps.
I've lost everything since I've put in a different ROM, but have contacted the developers of the apps of my problem. After mant apps crashing, I decided that it was futile to contact the developers as I realized it was due to the ROM and not the apps I was using, as I've used them before without problems

If I were you, I would try again. Download the ROM and verify that is the correct checksum. Like I said, others here have Pure Nexus without issue.
did a hashcheck [md5] of all files as I usually do. Now I'm even having problems flashing new ROMs since in the last hour or so. I've made a backup of Pure Nexus ROM, so I know I'm able to use it, but might have to do other things here in the next couple of days to get rid of it

I guarantee you it was not due to the rom. If it was others would be reporting the same thing you are. Logs are the only way to diagnose a problem. Its a waste of time discussing anything workout logs..

I just reverted to Pure Nexus again from my backup as I can't seem to flash any other ROM. I did some logs on one app but I can only do it while the app is running and not when it's crashed. I'm unable to attach the file here but only put the text which is too long for an xda submission. I've gone through help to attach but it seems I have to make a new post and not reply to this thread. Weird!

BTW I've installed CM 13 and minimalistic text works flawlessly on it, no hiccups no crashes, weird!!
When stuff like that happens to me and I feel I've tried everything I can think of, I usually make it easier on myself to run the script in Google's factory image and start new. Flash TWRP with ADB tools, format, reboot TWRP, transfer flashables, and start with that ROM from scratch with GApps. Most variables of messing up would have been avoided and chances of success should be high. Anyone else agree with that?

LOL! I've done that a few times reverting to stock and going from there. I'v had to do that in the past to get out of trouble. But seeing how I've done this countless of times over the past few years and the last phone was also a Nexus [albeit quite a change from Lollypop to Marshmallow], the rules are the same for flashing. One thing I was concerned with initially was that the vendor.img file for Pure Nexus was MMB29P but I'm on MMB29T. I don't know if that's an issue. I'm using 6.0.1 Android.
I may try it again in a few days mind you and re-flash. Will def post something if it's a positive change!!
I have an app on my phone (Airwatch), that is required in order to receive my "work email." Well, in order for that to work, i need to basically hide my root access to that app. Doing so will make the app thinks the device is not compromised, and allow the authorization to complete.
I've researched quite of view sites and videos, but all seem be for older android versions or not for SuperSU.
Anyone had any luck hiding root to an app on Pure Nexus Rom 7.1.2 ?
Thank you!
Try this when naugat was fresh I couldn't get it to work for Android pay but I'm seeing more success on the forum now

That's a doozy of a thread. Looks like i have a lot of reading to do.
I sure hope something works. I sold my old phone and bought this Nexus 6P in order to root (for free tethering) and add a custom rom. I absolutely need my work email, so i hope i can figure something out without going to back to a stock phone.
You can use Google's tether for free without root
Oops guess not that was a long time ago when I needed that guess you did need root

Guess it depends on the carrier for tethering. I have the pain of AT&T.

I use Nine and use the software base security when setting up my work email. No issue with root.
As for hiding root, I use Magisk but I can't get safetynet to pass. Oh well.

I know Magisk has the "hide root" feature. But is it worth changing from SuperSU to Magisk? It sounds like I still won't pass safety net since I'm running a custom Rom.
Well, i figured a work-around to avoid installing Airwatch. I just added a shortcut to my office360 email, right on my homescreen. It doesn't notify me of new work emails, but at least i can go check them.
But i still would like to add my Snapchat. Is there anything floating around which allows you to use snapchat with Pure Nexus?
Magisk is the way to root and hide it. -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk
it's supported and on the stock ROM, Android Pay and SafetyNet passes with an unlocked bootloader and root.
Hey guys, had a quick question for ya. Back in my days on my Note 4, I was able to backup my registered fingerprints, then restore them in a different ROM, saving me the hassle of doing it manually. I was wondering if there was a way we could do the same either on OOS or AOSP/LOS based ROM's? I know we delete the gatekeeper files when we change a ROM without having removed the pin, so would backing those files up and restoring them work? Thank you!
