Someone with OTG cable... help - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If you happen to have a USB OTG or a USB c storage, could you please see if this method works? At the very least, would someone confirm if a file manager of some sort opens up when you insert it during the wizard?
Thank you.

Yes you get a file manager.
ES file manager also works.

Thanks for the reply. Were you able to recreate those steps with your 6p? I'm asking because I'm locked out of the phone for another 50hrs due to frp.
Edit: nvm, it doesn't work as it does on the video.

[Q] Nexus 7 Utorrent external pendrive

Sooo i was wondering, i want a good tablet that i can also use to download big files from torrents...
But, what i want to know is, can i plug in a usb flash drive into my nexus 7 using an adapter, and download torrent files or normal files directly to the usb flash drive??
please answer
Dont see why not...
Theoretically, yes.
You need to be rooted, have a USB OTG cable, and use StickMount.
When you download the torrent, just set the download directory to the external drive and you're done.

Thanks soo much for the answer
Can anyone else confirm this?
and does this only works if downloading from utorrent or any other kind of download?
BTW, does any adapter work or it has to be an OTG cable? or any usb adapter will work?
Yes it works....but mounting the pendrive for longer duration may damage your tablet.

You can try with any, but it is recommended to get a Micro USB to USB OTG cable, such as:
This one here
Easy as that buddy
And you can store anything on your tablet onto a hard drive/USB drive

A custom rom such as the current cm10.1 with a otg cable should do you just fine. No stickmount needed.

The bit torrent app will. I don't know about stock though. I always wipe stock the moment I get a device.

I get that...
From reading this thread, I think posters have confirmed parts of it (downloading to a stick with the OTG cable, being able to download to the drive w/ uTorrent, etc. The only thing not confirmed is with your specific setup (stock rom). It's possible no one has that exact configuration to be able to confirm that. Seems to me it's worth investing a buck or two in a cable to find that out.
In any event, good luck with your quest. I hope it works for you.
One problem...
The problem is that not all OTG cables are compatible with the Nexus 7.
The ROM isn't a problem, provided you have root access.
You can download to a flash drive, and if not just copy it to the flash drive when download completed.
But, we can't guarantee it, not without using a confirmed cable, which yours isn't.
Try it, and report back and add it ot the list of confirmed OTG cables working with the nexus 7
Peace,
shandy1996
Thanks for the answer, i'm going to paraguay at the next month cause prices here in brazil are ridiculous, and them i'm going to see if it works ^^
Sooo, if the OTG cable work, and flash drive is correctly detected, is there an option in utorrent to download directly to it? and if i download something that isn't a torrent, what would be the best downloader to use that have this function to download directly to flash drive?
Btw: how much time do you think nexus 7 will hold on to the newest games? like the dead trigger 4 etc.
bump?
No it does not. I tried to do that and the speed when a torrent is downloaded directly to the stick is about 1b/sec. If you download normal files it works but not torrent, at least ttorrent and atorrent do not work.

Can't access internal storage files via Android File Transfer

So here is the issue: I'm on Mac, OS El Capitan. My Zuk is detected via adb, fastboot and also AFT. It shows my whole internal storage structure. I can access the folders without any files in it. But when I want to access for example Downloads or DCIM folder, it says it can't access phones storage.
Just to get sure, it is not the common MM error in the beginning. MTP mode is on, it detects my phone, it shows my folder structure.
I even moved a single file outside the folders at the beginning at my internal storage. It shows me that file! But when I want to copy it into my desktop AFT says that the file can't be copied. Seems to be a permission issue maybe?!?
I plugged my phone also via usb into a windows PC, everything works fine... Hope some guy can help me out.
PS: I am on Unofficial CM13 from @MrColdbird , but had also some issues before...
nobody?

You need to have your screen unlocked when you try to transfer a file. I'm on a mac too and don't have problems to transfer files.
Edit: You can also use a ftp server app on your phone and up and download files with FileZilla. That's what I usually do.

Na bro, it's nothing that simple...there is something specific going wrong. I know about ftp, superbeam and stuff. But I seriously want this to work, this is sometimes just the more easy way for me.
Still nobody?
Fixed it. File Permissions in internal storage seemed to be messed up as I assumed in the beginning. When trying to change them in Root explorer permission was denied, but now I did in in recovery mode...Don't know why I didn't do it in the beginning.
Sorry for disturbing guys.

Do not do Fix permissions!!! This will probably bring your device into boot loop in just make you format everything and reflash your system. I have rather changed permissions within internal storage with chmod 755.

The issue was solved completely otherwise. Even though I could transfer on Windows PC, it seemed that my cable was not actually a data cable, but more of a charging cable only. I have a USB Type C - to Micro USB adapter now, and with plugging in a Micro USB cable everything works fine for me.
Hope it helps.

Usb problem

Can anyone tell me why when i connect my lenovo k3 the pc doesn't read the storage? It was working before, i could copy paste songs, movies etc but now suddenly it stopped, i didn't update anything, when i use the es file explorer everything is working good, but when i connect it to the pc than my pc does detect the internal and external storage and i can see all the sub folders, but i cannot see the files inside nor copy paste anything in or out, why? Using Vibeui 3.0_1553 Dev.
1.Its conected as Media Device(MTP)
2.USB debugging is enabled
Basically everything as it was when it was working but now its not, wich is weird since i can see all the folders inside but not the files.

Yes i have tried the other usb options, charge only than revert back, doesn't seems to help, i just dunno how it can read the phone, it can read the sd card and the internal memory but it doesn't read the files, very weird, if it was the port of the usb or the cable it wouldn't have read the phone at all but it does read it so i dunno what i can do, anyone can help me?
Based on what you're saying, I have to say the fault is most likely at the other end - on the pc. More often than not, something changed on the pc, windows update, antivirus patch, driver update, settings changed by apps etc that kills connections. Quick way to test is to connect your phone to another pc but I guess you already know that. Swapping cables sometimes helps too. I know it does for me. My e-cig usb cable works better than all my other phone maker supplied cables that I've collected over the years. Go figure.

How to disable automount of the USB Drivers on Windows

I'll be darned if I can find an answer on this, which is weird, because I was able to 'fix' this on three prior phones.
When you connect (to Windows 7 PC in my case) via USB, the system detects and mounts a new USB drive (as a drive letter device) and pops up an Autoplay window. If allowed, it will install the drivers. Handy? The first time, yes. Many times later? Lightly annoying. *shrug*
Who's got the skinny on a solution for this "issue". LOL

Me! You'll need to have root access though. All you need to do is delete the /system/etc/usb_drivers.iso file and you're done.

Do copy before. If you lose those drivers you need to look for them on internet, there is no official drivers or I couldn't find them. What about disable autoplay from usb on Windows.

I renamed, adding .bak to the filename. Seems to have worked. (After I otherwise solved my problem with access to root files that ES File Manager couldn't grant access to, that is. Solid Explorer FTW)
I looked at Windows-side options, but I needed to solve the root access problem anyway, so... Also, I wanted to disable it for just this volume and it was unclear how feasible it would be for a single volume. I think I saw something about it being able to be on a per-volume (using unique ID) but didn't dig very far.

OTG *NOT* working in TWRP and also inside OS [Oneplus 5]

My OTG was working fine on my device before. But from some time I am not able to mount OTG. OTG is not detected in TWRP nor it is detected inside the OS.
Has anyone faced this before? Can anyone help me with it.
PS. I have include the android.hardware.usb.host.xml file. My device didn't have file tablet_core_hardware.xml or handheld_core_hardware.xml .
But manually added those files. Still with no luck.
