I have a bit of a problem here...
I have 1,700 Nexus 7s.
I need to get a bunch of APK's on the Nexus 7s.
I need to create a bunch of changes to the APPS on these devices.
Includes getting videos onto the devices.
Anyone have any ideas on how to do this automatically without having to touch the devices?
Thanks!
There's no way to do this unless you install software to do it on these nexus 7's which would defeat the purpose of the software.

Send me two of them and I'll tell you how..
Making a ROM and installing it on each one would work, but you would have to root it first.
Maybe a better solution is to get 12 people. Assuming 10 minutes to make changes to each tablet, roughly 24 hours of work.

I just won a bet with a co-worker with this reply! LOL .
You might be able to use the Nexus Toolkit to push the apks and videos. Set one of them up & use the restore/backup feature.
You could use titanium backup to create a flashable zip and flash them all on the devices.

They'd still need to root every device, which is probably more work than installing the applications they need to... if only stock nexii had adb over WiFi then he could make a script to install all the software wirelessly....
Can you please make a picture I like to see you unboxing and charging 1700 Nexus 7.

Why so many?
I hope you got a bulk discount on all those n7 units? Help the economy hire a few people to setup those units.

This is easy use the adb backup and restore option.
Search the web for full details and there is a tutorial somewhere in XDA about adb backup and restore.
Setup the device like you want it. The make a adb backup of the device.
Restore this backup to all the other devices. You don't need root.

Isn't MAC address something thats hardcoded into the WiFi chip?
adb backup works on non-root level, if I know correctly, I highly doubt it would restore thing such as MAC address. Those things need to be made in a way that not every ROM can modify them.
Wow. This problem sounds like a headache.
Is it possible to hook up multiple Nexus 7's to a giant USB hub and root batches at a time and flash a custom ROM?

I would have to root each device. which would be time consuming. The usb bus only can handle 20 to 30 mb so it would be very slow wouldn't it.
I think your best bet is to Unlock and root them with a custom recovery. From there, use an app that pulls a flashable zip containing the desired apps and any data they need and reboots to recovery to flash the zip. If you need to pull videos too, put that pull in the app too.

Am I the only one here who thinks this could be a bit of a lie?
Wouldn't he just need them all connected to WiFi and use the same Google account then do it all from the computer it'll auto download the apps you select to the devices.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this would work.
For videos just host on local WiFi connection and use CiFS to have who ever connect to them if they are students or what.

I suppose it could be, but it's also very feasable to think that this could be used for a company for maybe orientation or training purposes. The nexus 7 is inexpensive enough that it may be cost effective for such use.
Regardless, it's an interesting thread that may be of assistance to anybody needing to configure multiple devices.

Seriously, no one knows and Google never removed an image previously when no new Image was posted
Google gets scary First the AOSP driver thing then OTG now the Firmware? Please stop going into the Apple direction!
Wow the entire Occam section is gone...
Probably a precursor to an update that disables LTE, since they could get in hot water with federal regulators regarding it since it was never approved for LTE.
Anyone have a back up link to the images they pulled? I'm still looking around for em. But if you have a link handy please share!

Now that Cataclysm is no more, eventually I will have to move to another rom. #1 criteria is it has to allow Pay. I don't want to debate if Pay is good or bad, just if it works 100% on your rom.
Can you all post what rom you are using that supports or does not support Pay? If you see for ex. Pure Nexus in a prior post's and have nothing to add, no need to repost it unless say you have issues getting it to work or such.
Cataclysm = Yes, currently dead
Benzo (Great!! rom) = No, currently not supported
Chroma = Yes
Pure Nexus = Works with "some work"
I am running Chroma and have had no issues with Android Pay. Have made multiple purchases since I flashed it awhile back.

It won't work because Xposed has to modify the system partition. I thought I read somewhere that they were attempting to make a systemless Xposed, but I can't find it. I could be wrong.

I believe you will see Cata roms pop up when Feb. security patch comes around. you just wont see any of his work on XDA. I think he hinted towards it a bit. Not confirmed but a def. hunch. We will find out in a couple weeks. If not i will move towards Pure Nexus and go through the steps of getting AP to work on there. I would jump on Chroma as well but he doesnt support expanded desktop anymore. I believe that is a very underrated feature.
Also on Chroma...for now.

Because it has root, any ROM that has root requires some slight work to get it to work. You can always flash the SU remover zip and it should work with no other steps.

Hey, I was wondering if it is possible to convert the Nexus 6P to the Google Pixel XL with official OTA support and everything. I remember when you could do that on the HTC One M8, you could convert a Verizon Variant to a T-Mobile or Google Play edition. Is there anyway to do this on a Nexus 6P ?

The two devices are different as it comes to hardware. I am not sure you want to try and flash a Pixel OS on your 6P.
Oh I see what your saying. Because the HTC One M8 used the same hardware across all the different versions it was easy to just convert the software from one variant to another, but that can't be done on the 6P because it is different hardware.....okay, what about somehow copying the hardware drivers from the pixel OS on the 6P and tweaking it for official OTA support ?

Why would you wanna port drivers from Pixel to 6P when you have a separate branch of drivers specific for the 6P?
We've already taken all that's new and good at the Pixel and port it to the 6P. Launcher , icons, google assistant.
I see no reason to disguise our beloved 6P as a fake Pixel.
Having a Pixel OTA on a 6P sound a little bit too risky to me, not to mention not worth the hassle.

Framework-res.apk is a critical part of the OS and is housed in /system/framework/, so it definitely can't be sideloaded.
You need to adb push it in recovery, since the system is not mounted as root for adb in newer Android versions. Then set permissions to 644 (rw--r-r). Or alternatively if you're rooted you can copy it there manually (make a backup of the original!) in a file explorer, remembering again to set permissions.

Totally not possible to get Pixel software on a 6p and still get OTA updates. The OTA's have kernels, bootloaders, recoveries, and vendors for the Pixel. You can port the software after each update some way but not get direct software for the Pixel on a 6p.
Okay then, is there a way to make a fully stock pixel OS ROM, with everything working that is working on the pixel XL on the 6P ? Like with the moves, the round icons, the assistant, the live wallpapers, the launcher, the camera, everything ? And keep it updated as a new version comes out with Google updating it ? That's what I want to do. I understand now you cannot convert the Nexus 6P to a Pixel because of hardware. So what about somehow making the Nexus 6P completely a Pixel XL as far as software goes ? I have seen the posts where there are all the different ports for the pixel, and all the apps and features to a degree working on the 6P. So what about someone taking all of those things and baking them into a ROM that's completely Pixel ? I would do it, but I honestly don't know how to make ROMs.

Moves wont work as it requires specific fingerprint reader to recognize swipe action. 6p sensor cant do that. And all the rest is already ported. Flash 7.1dev preview, and a few zip files, youll get pixel camera, google assistant, and other stuff. Flash full aroma open gapps, and you will also get unlimitted online storage for your photos in original quality. All in one package wont come for some time for sure, as we still dont have 7.1, only dev preview

I am sure some developer can port most of the Pixel features but some are hardware dependent. As stated above I do not think the fingerprint gestures would port.
