Help with Marsh SD card usage???? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Looking for the best way to do this:
Pre-Marshmallow, I have lots of pics, apps and Misc. stuff on my SD card.
Now that Marshmallow has new options, how can I format the card as internal storage
and then move all the previous back. Can I just copy the cards files to my pc, then reinsert
the card in phone, format for internal storage, and then move all files back????
Any help or direction will be appreciated. Don't really want to lose all the files that
are currently on the SD card.
Ken

Yes that would be what I would do. Just make sure you copy them instead of moving in case something goes wrong during the move. That way you still have files on the card. When done copying make sure files are all on PC then delete from card

Strange problem with memory card :-(

I have a memory card 4GB MicroSD card and I have 2 folders in that they weigh 3 GB wanted to delete them and it will not let me, I tried every way possible, I want to hear songs and I can not because I have no place, anyone have an idea how I can delete the these folders?
i'd suggest you copying what you want to keep from the card to your computer, then format the card, and putting the files you want back onto the card.

How to xfer files when upgrading ext SD card?

I am going to swap my 2gb sd for a 16gb and want to know how to transfer the files correctly. It seems that the files I can see on my PC when mounted via usb, are only a fraction of the files I see via Root Explorer on the phone.
Whats the correct way prepare the new card, and transfer the files?
Thanks
mount the phone. Open the appropriate drive (2 should show). One us the internal for the os. The other is the 2 gig with avatar (sdcard/sd).
Copy to your desktop.
Get the new card with adapter mounted to pc now. Right click and format fat.
power off the phone after properly unmounting.
Swap cards in phone. Mount it again to pc. Move the avatar folder to new sd.
unmount. I would reboot. Make sure avatar works. if it didn't, you did not listen.
Thanks for the info
The way I did it is:
-put the new card in the phone
-format it using the phone (settings, SD Card and phone storage, format SD card)
-put the old sd card with adapter into PC
-mount the phone
-transfer files from old to new
So the only files that need to be transferred are the ones that show up when mounted/viewed on the PC? Are the files that I see on the card via Root Explorer when it is in the phone not needed? Are they just links or something?
Avatar is on the sd card (sdcard/sd)
Sdcard is the internal memory. Do NOT mess with that!
ah, so the sd card is actually the sd directory inside of sdcard...got it, thanks

[Q] Format the original SD card but keeping existing WinMo folder

After trying multiple SD ROMs from the development, I have so many files and folders in the SD card. I'm trying to format my SD card but I want to backup all the original folders from WinMo. Does anyone has the original WinMo SD card so you can tell me which folders I need to backup before I reformat the card?
Thanks!!
Everything will be recreated by the phone so don't worry. Anything you need to run the phone is in phone memory, not the SD card.

IF you have partitioned your SDcard you will either need a special program or need to use a Mac or Linux computer to copy the second partitioned section.
If you are using one partition just copy everything from the SD card to your Computer, then from the computer to the new SD card.
Remember to make hidden files and folders visible in Windows before you attempt copying, and move all the apps that reside on SD back to the phone's internal memory (if left on SD, their encrypted files might not work after copying).
sorry, im not really good with this stuff
if you dont mind, could you give me more detail instruction,
thank you

He is saying
1.Make sure that Hidden Files & Folders are show on your PC.If not, appy it under My Computer>Tools>Folder Option
2.Connect your old sd card to your pc via a memory card reader or you can do it via Data Storagr mode on your phone using data cable.
3.Open old sd card(show as a drive on your pc) & select all the files on the sd card including hidden files too.
4.Copy selected files(whole files on the old sd card,ok) & paste it on somewhere pc your pc.
5.Now remove old sd card & insert new sd card to the card reader. Then open it.
6.Now move that old sd files to the new sd card.
That's all!

Replacing/upgrading SD card

Whats he best/easiest way to replace my sd card. At the moment it is a 64 gb and I'm upgrading to a faster Samsung 128GB. The current card is formatted as internal memory. I can easily move/ delete/backup some files to a pc. I'm wondering about app files and data that might be n the sd card if I just reformat it as a media card as someone suggested
Thanks.
You must first change the card to external, the phone will move all the system files for you. If you don't have enough room on the internal to do this you will just have to temporarily move pictures video and music to a pc/cloud/usb etc.
Once you have it set to external just swap them over, do not take the SD out while set as internal.
I thought as much. Thanks kudos1uk for confirmation.

Hi All,
I am having same issue now. I want to replace my 32GB with 64GB card. Firstly, HOW do you change the card to external? There is no option doing anything like this. I can only see option to format the card as internal, which means all data will be lost.
For some reasons, i can copy the files from the 32GB out via USB to PC, but if took out the 32GB and put in the 64GB and format as internal, i have no way to access it or put the files back into the card.
Does it have something to do with formatting? Initially i format my 64GB to exFAT, but after putting into the phone, i formatted it again as required by the phone which i assume it will be formatted to whatever that is compatible by the phone.
All i want to do is to migrate the stuff on my old sdcard to my new sdcard and use the phone as usual.
Please help!
Thanks
I now have a 128 gb card in my A1
As far as I can remember you can copy your docs/media etc files on to your pc but not any app files which you will need to reinstall on your new card. The system files should stay on the internal card.
I changed my card before the phone updated to pie and now es file manager only sees the new card.
Update.
I just checked in settings /storage/apps and there is an option to move them to internal though with limited space only a few could be moved.
I'm not impressed with the A1. Sometimes it hangs or crashes. My redmi 6 is more reliable.

Hmm...i am not sure whats the phone OS version now, not sure if it's Orea or Pie. Maybe i can check later. The internal storage has about 23GB user/32GB. The old 32GB micro SD card has about 10GB used/ 32GB. Even if i took out the whatsapp media and DCIM folder media, there is still a couple of GB of files in the microSD card. So far i can only see i can move the apps back to internal, which i have only 1 (which i uninstalled anyway). So there is still 10GB of files in my 32GB microSD.
How do i move the DCIM folders back to internal? Another problem, in the Camera app, i can't find anywhere to point the camera storage settings at all!
Thanks for your feedback.

Never mind. I have solved the problem.
I keep looking for the options in the 3 dots in my SDCARD menu. Instead i should select the INTERNAL STORAGE. Clicked the 3 dots, there is a MIGRATE option. :silly: This will copy back the files from the SDCARD to the internal memory (provided enough storage...i have to uninstall some games first). Then i can swap out the card and put in new card.
Thanks anyway, hope this will help other people in the future!
