Hello all-
I have an Unrooted Pure and applied the 6.0 OTA update that Motorola pushed out. The update went seamless and everything seemed fine. A day or so later and the phone has started to become extremely laggy and almost unbearable to deal with. Again the phone has never been messed with and is totally stock so why would Motorola decide the update is ready for the device if it's causing these issues? Any suggestions to remedy this problem?
Thank you!
I'm not having this issue at all. Mine seems a bit smoother actually, and i haven't heard of any other instances of people having a laggy experience after upgrading. I would try a factory reset?
I'm having the same issue with lag and studder all over the Marshmallow system UI, as well. My phone isn't rooted or had the bootloader unlocked, either. Something isn't right, what is Motorola not telling us....?
I am also noticing lots of lags in most of the apps.any way to get back to lollipop.
I don't know if it happens as part of the standard update process on the Motorola but once the update for me installed I used recovery to clear the cache partition and rebuild all apps on boot. Might be worth a try if it hasn't been done since the update.
I also have a 100% stock Moto X Pure that's become laggy post-Marshmallow update.
One of the easiest thibgs to notice is when using opinion rewards. The money amount typically scrolls like a slot machine, but now on Marshmallow it's so choppy.
Then I googled the lag I'm seeing and went to Android central via the first link. It was soooo laggy I gave up scrolling, tried to switch to the XDA tab, and the lag killed me so bad the screen was black for a good 5s.
I wish I had never upgraded.

The issue has been reported and it seems to be gone if you turn off accessibility. Settings -> accessibility and then turn off.
The other possible solution which seems to have worked for some ppl at some cost of battery life is to go to developer settings and then turn on force gpu rendering and disable how overlays.

Turn off what? Turning off all would stop Moto Voice and other Tasker things I have.
If you guys haven't already, a factory reset should be performed after every update.

Yes, going to Accessibility and turning off Accessibility services eliminates the lag. I had a Dashlane's Accessibility service on and the lag was unbearable. I disabled it and lag was gone. Test which service is making the system choppy.

Ok so I got a replacement phone and my previous phone did not have this problem so it's not the usual "touchwiz is laggy" rant
I have tried going back to nj7 once and nk4 about 8 times already. I even redownloaded everything on my computer to see if it was a bad download. Even on stock nk4 it is still laggy when I type. It might relate to the fingerprint scanner because 2 other people reported this problem. I set up my fingerprint before rooting and flashing a custom rom....
Can anyone help?

I did that, that's not even a bad lag compared to what I am experiencing =(
i'm having a huge lag also after couple of days of usage..
Have you set secure storage to false in your buildprop?
Yup, tried that
I'm on T-Mobile but I just got home and phoned up my co-worker who has the Verizon version. Says he noticed a slight improvement in overall touchscreen responsiveness. Biggest problem that he said was fixed was ghost touches (touching one portion of the screen caused a menu to pop up somewhere else for example) being completely gone. Idk, it's really starting to feel like a lot of these bugs should have gotten squashed in the product testing phase. Wonder if this is the same update as the mandatory one T-Mobile got way back. I wouldn't think so since the T-Mobile update did not fix touch screen issues for anyone.

Forgive me if I've misunderstood QC 2.0. But my understanding is it can charge at 9V or 12V. So just because it's still at 9V doesn't definitely mean that the phone isn't receiving more power, the amps could have also increased.
To provide 15W, for instance, you'd need 3A at 5V, 1.67A at 9V, and 1.33A at 12V.
It's possible to still get 9V from the charger, but draw more amps, for faster charging. Using something like Battery Monitor Widget, to monitor the current provided to the battery, would be a useful tool.

Try the paid version of Lux ... Can get the screen REAL dim!
G4'ed it!
After reading all of these posts, I'm really hoping for a similar update on T-Mobile coming soon. I'm glad this isn't just a placebo and an actual solution to a software problem that doesn't require getting my phone serviced.
SIdeloading apps problem???
UPDATE: Nevermind - issue not related to Verizon update... Had Twilight app kick on after sunset and that overlay app (reducing blue light) is what caused the touch issue. (Credit: brainwash1)
Enabled installing from "Unknown Sources" and installed an app yesterday no problem
I just did the Verizon system update and reboot, now on sideloading install I get the permissions list with CANCEL & INSTALL buttons at the bottom. Looks normal, but the INSTALL button doesn't respond to any tapping. Tried landscape mode also, just to move where the button was located on the screen, but no dice. CANCEL button works fine.
[Also, if there are many permissions, so I need to scroll, the INSTALL button starts as a NEXT button, then changes to INSTALL when done scrolling to bottom. Doesn't matter, neither NEXT not INSTALL buttons function]
Not sure what else would cause this. It seems like the Verizon system update broke something. Anyone else having new problem sideloading after the update???
Whats your carrier? I think the other guy is verizon. So am i, and i put no thanks

Do you have an app running that overlays something on the screen? I've had this in the past with a couple of different apps. Try turning off anything that's running.

OK, then the update isn't stored in the cache partition as other phones. It's a bit drastic but a factory data reset will do it. I ended up taking the update and then froze the updater. It did improve the touch response so I have no need for further updates. It updates the kernel because that is where the necessary changes are.

my touch response "seems" improved but I still get ghost touches..
I love pretty much every aspect of the phone, but the issues I have with the touchscreen are maddening at times, if I didn't see widespread reports of issues I would have Verizon replace the phone, but I am not sure it's worth the hassle..

It might be worth replacing. I first had a black one that had the problem pretty bad. I returned the phone and went back to my S6 for a while but ended up picking up a blue one from Best Buy and this one works great. The touch wasn't that sensitive before the update but now it works really good. My battery is really good on the blue model too. Keep in mind I paid full retail for mine so when I returned the first one there was no restocking fee. I go to BestBuy just for that reason.
I was having some touch issues just as many are experiencing. Just today I installed the Google keyboard from the play store. I enabled the new keyboard and stopped using the LG keyboard. I have been using it this way for about an hour and I am much happier. I am hopeful this will take care of my issue. This is on a Verizon G4.
I took the update yesterday and threw my Verizon G4 on a Qi Wireless Charger last night and the bug where it has crashed in the AM is still there. Not sure about that.
Basically every time I wake up on a night of Qi Charging, the phone is crashed and freaks out.
Update:
My phone is now getting hot and doing the screen brightness bounce like it did out of the box. Going from 100 to 90 to 80 to 90 to 80 to 100 to 90.

I switched from the LG keyboard to the google keyboard day one so that was never a source of my issues.. Just today.. twice post update I have had ghost touches launch the app switcher icon while texting and caused me to switch apps on accident.. Doh.. It's frustrating to say the least.
Never had a problem with wireless charging besides it's slow.
No screen brightness fluctuations.
No ghosting on screen.
Sounds like there's an awful big batch of bad phones.

There are definitely bad ones. I returned mine again a few hours ago because my outdoor pictures would come out either dark or overexposed real bad. I tried manual mode and auto and no matter what I did they were awful. So I'm back to my S6 again, it was fun while it lasted.
Since DOK2 is new and there are several hopes from many of the new firmware, I figured it would be best to make a thread about it.
To those on DOK2 (Especially 100% stock, i.e. stock kernels), please post your feedback.
One of the main things to look for is directed at FingerPrint unlock users.
After enabling FingerPrint unlock does the phone randomly lock itself?
Does the FingerPrint crash / TouchWiz crashes?
(This should be apparent with in the first 24 hours of enabling the FingerPrint lock)
The next main thing to look for is just general issues after the phone being on for some time. This would indicate memory management issues and would show up after hours / days with out a restart.
Are you loving the new Firmware? Post about that too!
Your feedback is valuable so please take the time out to post your experiences with DOK2.
Thanks!
I'm loving the new firmware. The phone "feels" faster in switching between applications.
The fingerprint lock-screen bug is gone (for me). Memory management has improved drastically. The only thing that is the same is the battery life in power saving mode. The update is worth it for me, so I'm not as eager as I was before to get marshmallow as I was before.
Note: This phone has never been rooted
I got the update and noticed a few bugs here and there. I fully wiped twice and it resolved everything. It's smoother, faster, same battery life, keyboard and fingerprint bugs fixed. I really like it so far. It runs like it should. I'm a happy camper now.
I've never rooted, full stock.
Remember to go to options > storage and clear your cache after updating! From COG2 to DOK2 I have never had fingerprint unlock issues. If anything it seems more accurate and faster. There is more ram I fall between 1.7-1.8gb (instead of ~2gb) used when everything is cleared. There has been no random reboots since the update. There is no more weather widget re-sizing itself and black shadowed font while scrolling through home screens. My antutu score went from 52000 to 48000 though. I am 100% stock never been rooted.
I've heard tell that you can't downgrade your bootloader back to COG2 after installing DOK2 update. Any word on this? Even through Odin?
^Even if you can't, why would you want to? 5.1.1 is better in every way from 5.0.1

sub? I assume you mean usb.. Did you wipe/reset everything? Even though this is an official update dirty flashing is dirty flashing. Wiping is still a troubleshooting step.
Love it so far.
The one thing that I have noticed is that the task switching is much faster. When I used to press the button, it would take a few seconds to load, now it's pretty much instantaneous.
I tried turning on the fingerprint unlock, but I was still having too many swipes to get it to unlock, so I turned it back off.

That is a must. My fingerprint scanner (when not crashing) works flawlessly. I never have had a problem with swipes.

Data speeds are much improved with the update. The device is snappier also. I haven't noticed a difference in GPS - seems about the same as before the update. Haven't had time to gauge battery life fully but that also seems improved.
Over all a very well put together update. I'm pleased.

So weird, I installed it yesterday, rooted, and loaded a ported version of Kyubi's ROM. It's an awesome ROM, but too laggy on n910t. Reinstalled DOK2, and I canNOT root it again via Odin 10.7 or 10.3. It loads, and then goes into a boot loop. I've tried like, 5 times. Kinda sucks

This is my second Ph-1 and it is starting to freeze multiple times a day. I read the previous post regarding Nova causing these issues, I am using the stock browser and so far, so smooth. I really dislike all the "whiteness" of stock and the lack of customization.. but it is worth it for a smooth experience.

Side loaded any apps?
I've experienced this issue lately. Yes I am using Nova as my daily driver. I just restarted the phone and issue went away. Hopefully it stays away. If it pops up again I'll report back.
I've had my phone for about a month now. I have had Nova loaded since day one but just recently have experienced the freezing and reboots. It is very random for sure. I may try a run without Nova if it happens much more.

Nope, nothing sideloaded...
I am using Pixel 2 launcher for over a month and I like it.
I've had crashing on Beta 2 quite a bit with Nova. OTAing to Beta 3 reduces the crashes to once a week using Nova, which is pretty okay.
It's usually when I try to unlock the phone or am in the middle of doing something that everything just times out and reboots :s
Still on nought and have noticed bout the past week or so have had 2 freez ups. I'm using nova also. Rooted with magisk and viper and a batt mod.

Wow... I've had my Ph1 for over a month, running Nova.(not rooted, don't feel the need to) .. and I've had no issues at all... I'll admit I can recall a few hiccups (nothing major) when I first received it, but after all the updates, mine is running top notch... I understand that this phone had a rough launch... and a butt load of updates... But I honestly can't complain about my experience....
Well I made it almost 8 days this time before it restarted on its own while sitting on my desk. I usually like to reboot my phones every so often but I wanted to see how long it would go this time. DARN lol!!!

Tried Apex launcher and pixel launcher. No real difference. Phone is difficult to unlock. Takes a long time. System UI crashed. Oreo beta 3 seems overall buggy for me.
Is there a way to troubleshoot whether or not I could be having a hardware issue as opposed to a software issue?

I've tried a factory reset and that didn't seem to resolve the problem at all. In fact, it seems like unlocking got slower after the reset. The only things outside the box I am doing is using the Google camera app, running an app called layout to hide the navigation keys, and running an ADB command that makes the screen slightly larger by moving the top parameters of the screen up closer to the notch at the top of the phone. I guess I can do another factory reset, restore my applications, but don't install Google Camera or make any adjustments to hide navigation keys or change screen size.
I may do that, or just wait for the official release of Oreo which I hope is soon!
If anything here sounds like a hardware issue, I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

For example, when the phone has been sitting a few minutes I pick it up, touch the fingerprint sensor and get no feedback. The phone seems dead. I push the power button and nothing happens. I can do this several more times and then the phone may, or may not open. When it is working smoothly, I tapped the fingerprint sensor quickly and hear the"click" sound immediately. About 50% of the time this does not happen. If I had to estimate the amount of time it freezes or lags, it is certainly in excess of 10 seconds.
Many times I am forced to hold the power button down until it reboots.
In other cases, I may be in the middle of using the phone, it will start to lag and freeze, and then automatically reboot itself.

I'm on the beta 3 release and I'm not experiencing that at all. Fingerprint unlocks in under 1 seconds almost every time. You may want to try a clean install without your other "enhancements". Personally, I'd do that just to get some stability and/or reliability. That may also save you time once the 8.1 beta drops because if you can determine that's the culprit, you'll know not to install that stuff on the next beta.
Honestly, as finicky as this phone has been for some users, I wouldn't install anything other than normal apps from the Play Store. I'm really holding off on rooting until the 8.1 beta drops so I can still get the ota as soon as it's released. Then I'll start playing with custom ROM's, etc.
I've only had this for about a week, coming from a Pixel. Flashing that phone was the worst experience of my life, looking forward to trying it here.

Thanks. Good points. I'll take your advice and clean flash.
The phone is less than 6 months old, getting hard freezes. requires restart by holding power and vol down.
Happens almost everyday while watching youtube and trying to switch to any other application.
I've updated to Android 10 recently and, while I enjoy the improvements to the performance, I have been far from impressed with the phone's RAM management. Sometimes, the phone would just randomly fail to launch any apps. I would just tap on any app I want to launch from the home screen or in the app drawer and the phone would just stall. Maybe after quite some time, the phone would initially launch the app but at crawling speed and fail to completely load it. The only way out is to tap the home or the recent apps button multiple times. Also, when opening the recent apps view, I don't actually find the app that failed to launch in the recent apps at all.
Is it only me or is this a known issue? Will formatting my phone do any help?
I am having a similar issue. It occurs randomly, and I have to reboot to fix it.
Same here.
The only way to recover for me is to reboot.
I am hoping the October release will have a fix.
Reference from today's Oct update: A-138323667 - Fix for memory drain in UI on all Pixel phones. I am betting this will fix yours as well

Yes, hope we get those fixes also (though only mentions security ?). I also hope the sensor calibration fix might stop phone waking up when in the car and we hit even a smallish bump, it never used to happen on 9.

Damn! I thought it probably would not be fixed as I believe we only get they security updates fast each month. We'll have to wait & hope we get the fixes soon. I haven't even hand chance to update yet! Lol
Sitrep: updated successfully to the latest update (October security patch). 41 hours of uptime have just passed as I was writing this and so far, I only had a similar issue with Google Chrome (failed to load any pages) but as soon as I opened the App Info and cleared 2 gigs of cache it went back to normal. Didn't get that freezing issue anymore. Looks like it was fixed indeed. Awesome!
I'll still keep an eye on it.
To my shock, it appears that the October security update didn't fix this issue. It may have taken more uptime to occur but it is still there. I think at this point I'm better off switching back to Android Pie custom ROMs.
October version seems better to me. Not as good as Pie but the freeze is not permanent to a point where I have to reset to recover.
Now, when it freezes, it takes about 3-5 seconds to recovers.

Whatever game you're playing...
Turn the volume off...
It's an Audio HAL issue that no one is acknowledging

Not playing games. No audio.
Just in the midst of switching between tasks or starting a new app.
Freeze is less frequent and when it happens, the OS recovers within a few seconds.

Did you clean flash?
I had similar issues when I dirty flashed from P to Q.
Although there are defo some Audio HAL issues on Q as mentioned in a previous post, noticeable when trying to play music through the dongle.
Sitrep: switched to AOSiP 10 (20191012 build), never had a single RAM management issue since. Not sure if it's because of clean flashing the ROM, switching to f2fs or whether it's the ROM that has some fixes. But, well I'm a happy man now
Custom roms are always way better than stock, it's like a show car next to a stock lol
