Hi there!
I am trying to squeeze every bit of batt from my device... So, if I go to settings, sound and notifications, app notifications and block all those I don´t expect any updates, will it keep them from checking?
For example, if I go to app notifications and block tapatalk... will it keep the app from checking for updates and thus not using the internet, not waking up the device etc and would that spare the battery or would that only block the "displaying" of the info, but the app would still check / wake up the device to check?
Thanks!
Disabling notifications will do exactly that, just disable the notification from appearing on your notification bar. Your phone will still be syncing data and checking for notifications, you just wont receive them.
In order to stop the phone from checking, you need to turn off sync for whichever apps you're concerned with. You can usually do this from directly within the app, or by going to settings>accounts.

That said, if the goal is to keep from spending batt, I have to go into each app and disable their sync/notification options....
Thank you Sir.
Yes, and if there is no option from that within the app, check Settings>Accounts, it should be there.
Goodluck

First of all I am rooted -=- already everything works fine for me only one thing I am having issues,, I installed Handcent…and made it my default TEXTING app
But I still get notifications from the messaging app that came pre installed
..
I did go to settings>I unchecked Auto retrieve and Notifications on the pre installed so
I won’t get it notification from the preinstalled app
It was doing good before the ROOT
But now I get both apps notifying me?
Can anyone give some advice?
To resolve this issue
yeah just go to the settings of the default txting app and turn off notifications there.
I did still get both notifications
Sent from my vibrant
using XDA App
1. The auto retrieve is for multimedia messages - if you leave it unchecked it will send you a message asking if you want to download it, then it will come to your phone (So, i'd probably re-enable that)
2. I doubt this will make a difference, so you can try to skip over the 3 if you want, but, you can try re-enabling the notifications, selecting the "silent" ringtone, and then disable the notifications again (just in case there was a bug about the notification box)
3. This is what most likely is the problem and I'm at work so I don't have time to test out all the combinations, but do you have another app that controls sounds (ringo, sms alert, etc.) that could be sounding an alert as well? Test out changing different alerts and txting yourself (either from your phone or set up a google voice account and send them quicker) and see what alert is really is that's notifying you besides handcent.
good luck, I'll check back after work!

thanks let me try a few combinations
What you have to do is first reset defaults for text messages under Samsungs text app. Now go to handcent and turn off notifications. Now next time you get text click the one notification you got. It should ask you what app you want to use to open it. Default it to handcent. You now only have one notification. It's a crappy workaround but its the only thing that works. You can try to uninstall twizmms but usually that causes more problems then it solves
If my ways don't work i'd say try psychoace's idea...it sounds like it'll work.
And I guess if ur like acjones you might want the auto retrieve off (maybe high schooler with lady friends...?) But for those of us without an issue its just an extra step, and has nothing to do with the notification tones
On a Vibrant, using this app-thingy
Hello everyone,
Just made the switch from iphone to Android after having iphones for the last 5 years. After 4 days of familiarizing myself with s4 I love it more and more.
I've disabled many programs to speed up the phone and now I have 2 problems.
1. My phone does not automatically receive emails and does not send me notifications to the bar. I checked the email settings and it says send notifications all my email addresses. I assume I disabled some app that controls notifications.
2. Text messages- when I receive a text message. In the notification bar it just says Text Message. My wife has S3 and hers shows the actual text message in the notification bar.
3 I don't receive notifications about app updates that are available. I believe when I first got the phone, it sent me a notification to the bar stating I have updates to do.
I think I disabled one or more processes that control all those features. I looked through them many times and cant figure out which one it could be.
Thank you,
Max
My advice, I would do a factory reset, that way you go back to stock that puts the rom back to factory settings, and start your procedure again. It would a heck of alot easier to do this as it can down right frustration trying this and that.
Those features you are talking about are enabled by default. Lets start there, if you see it didn't help, we will try something else.
good luck
Go into the message app settings, and make sure the settings are as you want them, if you want to try that first.
Everyone,
I know how to go into application manager and uncheck the "show notifcations" box to stop notifications from application / games.
What is happening though, is the manufacturers of the games / apps. are releasing frequent updates to their game / app., which then resets the "show notifications" box to checked, and I am being woke up in the middle of the night several times a week by my phone receiving these marketing pushes from the recently updated game / app.
I work in I.T., and receive pages to my phone, (I use Missed Messages to make sure I get and acknowledge important messages), so I just can't disable all notifications in the evening hours.
Is there a way to permanently, even after updates, make sure that the "show notifications" box stays unchecked at all times for an application or game?
Maybe a notification manager app, or a setting I can manually modify, (without negatively impacting Missed Messages and my work related pages)?
Thank you!
Kdvditters.
P.S. My phone is a T-mobile, Note 3, stock (not rooted).

I think you mean playstore not application manager?
Are you letting the apps 'auto update' ?
If so,turn off in playstore and then you can update apps when you want, when done turn of notifications again.
What you can try:
Greenify (app) all the apps. It basically shuts down all apps you add to the list through Force Stop. Usually shuts them up for me.
Deep Sleep Battery Saver works on a similar process.
When I get app notifications for things like text messages or emails, entering the app directly and opening the corresponding message does not dismiss the notifications from the notification center. Is this normal behavior? I thought Lollipop did, but I could be mistaken. I either have to swipe the notification off, or click it to open the app to dismiss it.
I noticed the same, found it irritating and I got way to many notifications from all sorts of stuff, App's and OS. Eventually I disabled all notifications. The phone already makes a sound so i don't need any visuals.
I am getting the same issue, any fix/ workaround to get rid of the notifications?
In my case this seems to depend on the application. Whatsapp does this annoying thing, while Gmail and Inbox do not. I think that most apps are not yet updated properly for Marshmallow support.
Hi there
I have this issue again where I don't receive notifications with Google Inbox app when I receive email.
I had this issue before on my s6 and it was related to power saving. There was a way to fix this and only for a specific app. But now I can't find it even did Google Search.
Also tried to look into it via S8 settings everywhere but can't find it and I don't want to shut off power savings mode.
Any idea how I can disable it just for specific apps?
you'll need to set Inbox to "Apps not optimized"
in battery usage (device maint. > battery > battery usage > 3 dots > optimized apps )
choose All apps then turn off toggle for Inbox.
I've been having this kind of problem with WhatsApp. I see the notification icon arrive but it doesn't really notify me with sound until after a couple of minutes.
Hopefully what @crayonyes wrote is what I needed. Thanks in advance!
Thanks. I did that. Unfortunately still doesn't work. I checked everything, all notifications & sync is on. I even put Inbox as high priority app. Still no notifications.
I've had so many problems with Google Inbox & notifications on my previous Galaxy and now again. Just really annoying it persists.
Not sure what to do now.

Try clearing data for Gmail. This has worked for a few people.
