Root - Custom Rom - Kernel -Gear VR Lag Issue - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all! First of Thanks all devs for all of your work (never got oppertunity to give thx)! Have been downloading custom rom's from here since S4^^. (I hope I'm in the right forum sub group)
My goal has been to be able to use a custom rom with viper mod, and root to be working with the gear vr without the lag issue.
Ok, so I have been trying different custom rom/kernel mixes for a while now only flashed stuff from my variant (928F) Forum threads. But I have allways have to reflash pure stock to get the Gear VR working without the lag.
I've tried to mix Skyhigh kernel with CRISSCROSS ROM V1.4 [928F/C/G/I][5.1.1][11.12.15][XXU2AOKB][Aroma], Deodexed STOCK ROM 928 F-I-C-L-K-S-G Edge+ [AOK4][3/12/15].
Audax Rom with Audax Kernel and also just rooted stock. Obviously i have been googling, and almost everywhere I didnt find a solution for it.
But in this thread it is stated that the [KERNEL] Stock Modified Kernel | TouchWiz | Auto-Root + Busybox | 11.18.2015 for the T variant and that it is also working for the 928F variant (awesome!!!). However to the question: While on the 928F variant what custom-roms can I use with the Modified kernel by jovy23 (928t) ? Will it be custom roms from the 928F forums or the custom roms from the 928T forums *confused* ? What particular custom roms running smooth and working can anyone recommend one or a few ?
answers would be nice and many thx to this forum and its devs!

I think it is early in the game ...might change tomorrow. And thank you to the devs and Merry Christmas.

Man, i wish i saw this thread before flashed to a custom rom,
nobody mentions the lag issue! (not on reddit or oculus forum)...
hopefully you can resolve this problem, but back to stock for me.

Hey! I got it to work on my 928F
Root, Viper Audio and Gear VR (without lag)
1st I flashed arter97-recovery (through ODIN)
2nd I flashed Kos Rom v3.0 RC4 by kossiewossie in recovery (F Variant)
3rd I flashed [KERNEL] Stock Modified Kernel by jovy23 (T Variant)
..I did full wipe, davik, cache (I dont know if it was necessary)
Now it run flawless, Root, Viper Audio working and Gear VR without the lag
Merry Christmas and A Happy new year XDA :victory:

Thank you thank you thank you.. That did it for me. I was going crazy on this. Tried everything. I almost gave up on it.
But I did exactly what you did and it works like a charm.

Can confirm that Criss Cross Rom by asc1977 works too. Only thing is that you have to flash Gear VR zip seperatly through recovery. :good:
Probarly as stated in another thread here on XDA the Gear VR "App" lag is a kernel issue. I think since the Modified Kernel by jovy23 is close to stock it works. So maybe all Custom Rom(928F) will work with Gear VR if you flash jovy23's kernel.
Awesome Work Devs for flashaholics like me xD

That is true.
I had Kos Rom v3.0 RC8 with Sky kernel and the Gear VR was terrible. (except for the Google cardboard apps)
I removed the Sky kernel App (SYNAPSE) and flashed the "[KERNEL] Stock Modified Kernel" over the Sky kernel in TWRP. (no wipe of anything)
Now it works like a charm.
Thanks!

Does it works for a S6 edge plus?
Have a doubt guys if I do the same will it work for me?
its a s6 edge plus model: SM-G928A

Double Tap 2 wake and other things
Hi all,
I recently purchased an SAMSUNG galaxy s5 (snapdragon) and installed KT kernel just to get double tap to wake. Everything worked fine with the installation except one thing...there are many options in KTweaker related to how to sleep or wake your phone but none of them works at all.
I donna what's the purpose of specifying those tweakes if they don't work??? And you, Ktoonsez are saying this will drain S5-s battery in comparison to LG G3??? Are you kiddin''....SUPERAMOLED doesn't drain battery so i think this is just an excuse as you're not able to implement this on S5 too as you already did on S4....shame it!!!

Sound control?
The Boeffla control app v. 2.1.73 only offers volume adjustments in the Boeffla-Sound section. I tried running the Boeffla Sound Control App v. 1.7.1 from the market as well as a presumably modified version I found on XDA, but both force close immediately. Is there a way to take more advantage of the Boeffla-Sound options on this kernel (2.0-beta3-CM 12.1)?
Issue with CPU and GPU frequencies
Hello...
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and i have installed CM12 with the latest kernel 1.0 beta3 and i experience freezes and hot reboots...
I have not overclocked anything as you can see from the pictures and i have left all frequency clock settings at default values, but when i go to CPU-Z i see the values of CPU and GPU overclocked...
In the attached images i have the default settings in Boeffla for CPU on 2457MHz and in GPU at 578MHz and in CPU-Z i see that max CPU frequency is 2.84GHz and GPU is 657MHz...
Why is this happening?
Thank you in advance for your help...
AnDrEaS
Issue with CPU and GPU frequencies
It is being answered by Lord Boeffla...
All is normal. Tools like cpu-z and others always display the maximum possible frequency, regardless of what you cap the frequency to.
So, it just shows something not correct.
You can verify that very easily by using tools like CPU Spy etc and you will see, these high frequencies are indeed not used unless you allow it.
The reasons is: These tools always assume, when overclocking frequencies are available, they are used. Which is not the case by default in my kernel.

edit- will overclocking freeze my phone? i tried ktoonsez's kernel and it froze my phone. i had to reflash /system and rom, thankfully i kept all my data.

I tried this kernel (2.1-beta8) on BlissPop v3.6 (BlissPop-v3.6-klte-OFFICIAL-20150701-2254), but some features didn't work (ex: couldn't use tethering).
IMPORTANT: BlissPop is "customized" rom, so you must read and understand when want to use:

Hi, I am new to this. Just got my S5 today.

You have to enable root, or to flash SuperSU (a third party, actually the most popular root solution for Android.).
I would actually like to recommend you the stock CyanogenMod root, but I myself am using SuperSU for a while, and I would have to search how to use the stock CM root with 12.1.
So either install SuperSU app from the play store, and download this zip: download.chainfire.eu/supersu, boot to recovery and flash it, to enable Chainfire's closed source root, or Google 'How to enable root on CyanogenMod 12.1' to find out how to use CyanogenMod's own root solution.
Edit:
So I dont have to type everything (instructions how to enable CyanogenMod's own root implementation, IIRC, and if nothing has changed in the meantime, it is Koush's implementation, which is open source:

N910F want to go back to official rom & kernel

hello take a while xda forum and the truth is that it has helped me a lot earlier with S IV and now with the note IV .
I have a problem and that the note 4 are no longer suits me as before, lag, some applications crash ... .
I got installed a custom kernel and custom rom i would like to know if it's possible to go back to official kernel and official rom.
I know how to do to roll back to official rom but with the kernel i search a bit and dind't found the kernel.
I know that 's a tall order but appreciate it if someone could lend a hand and tell me I have to do.
Thanks in advance and follow so that this community helps a lot to people who are not expert in android.
Are you sure that flashing official firmware is the right decision? Loosing root and all the good things that come with it?
Lags and all that sh^@+ happens.. but I'll tell you somenting: it happens even more with official firmwares..
What I suggest you is to flash another custom rom (one of the latest) and see how it goes.
Anyway, answering to your question about the kernel: flashing an official rom you'll flash the official kernel too.

If you are Changing Selinux Status For Viper4Android Here You go Official ViPER4Android Audio Effects...
If you are on TW than Viper4Android on stock kernel
Regards your Headphone Volume you can Give A try To Poweramp Music Player if you Don't want To go Through all this Stuff...

many thanks bro i flashed a deodexed rom coz i tryed in the past busybox and worked

Custom rom won't install vr, despite claims from rom users it works...

I have two s7 edges, one stock rom which works fine and this one - which was stock rom until last night. I rooted and installed KINGROM and everything is lovely, all except now my gear vr won't recognize when it's attached so won't install any software.
I wanted to post in the kingrom forum, but I don't have enough posts to do so, so I have to ask here.
Does anyone know why the headset isn't triggering the install? I can confirm it worked when on stock rom, and the KINGROM page claims that the vr is fully supported.
Australian stock, Optus carrier.
Many thanks
You gotta fix all those formatting on your post dude.
I dont have THAT specific rom but maybe it has an aroma installer where it gives you the option to enable it? The superman rom i had that, i selected it and my gear vr works perfectly.

Most ROM Makers remove apps that your MAJORITY dont use, VR could be one of them.
You may need to add it in yourself, Or it could be a option when installing.
If you have two phones, then check for the APK in system, and if its there, see if its present in your ROM where VR does not work.

nice to know superman rom works with VR... im already on that ROM and im planning to buy a VR instead of buying a google cardboard knockoff (aka the chinese vr boxes)...
@Toldorn
i use kingrom and vr is working flawlessly
in aroma when you flash it it gives option to remove apps you don't want and I'm sure you removed gear vr apps required to work
reflash it and don't remove anything.dont select any app in 3rd and 4th pages in aroma

[ROM] [WIP] [P600] [TW 5.0.2] [help needed] Iron ROM port for Galaxy Note 10.1 2014

In this Thread I will port the Iron Rom from the Tab S to our Note 2014
Thanks to Tkkg1994 for making the awsome Iron Rom and xluco for the Kernel
Just to be clear: I didn't developed the Iron Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/prerooted-stock-touchwiz-rom-t2973107) nor the xluco Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2725193. I just put them together.
Ok, first how you install the Iron Rom: Download the Iron Rom for the T800 and the xluco Kernel for SM-P600 first and put them on external SD Card. After that go into Recovery and wipe EVERYTHING exept external storage. Maby you can also wipe system only but i highly recommend yout to wipe everything. Install now the Iron Rom and DO NOT CHECK REBOOT AFTER THE IRON ROM INSTALLATION, when it has finished, install the xluco kernel. Than do a Reboot. for me, the Rom took some time to boot, and often did some random reboots. when you see the assistant, you have to be very fast, dont configure anything, as I already said before, it will very likely crash after some time.
So, now why I opned this Thread: I'm not a developer, so I cannot do this by myself. Hope I will get some help, I know everybody is waiting for a Lollipop Custom Rom
good point mate ... Maybe I'm going to give other CRs of that a Try ... have you tried that with other Custom ROMs like AOSP ones or others ?
Yes, I did. In the past I could get a KitKat Rom from our big brother P900 running on my device using the same method as I used here.

So, now why I opned this Thread: I'm not a developer, so I cannot do this by myself. Hope I will get some help, I know everybody is waiting for a Lollipop Custom Rom

@wulkanat @hitman1376 were either of you able to get this ROM running on your device? If so, which build did you use? I've tried at least a dozen different configurations via Aroma Installer on both the 2.4.5 and 2.5 builds, but the SystemUI crashes on me within seconds of booting up every time.

To be honest , I didn't try it out ... but , as the devices have so many things in common , it wasn't so odd ... but , does it happen the same on the MM ROM ?

You would think so. A couple years ago, it seemed like most apps/features were interchangeable between the Note 2014, Note Pro, Tab Pro, and Tab S on Kitkat. I distinctly remember my go-to ROM was originally designed for the Note Pro.
As far as IronROM V3.0 (MM) goes, the Aroma installer detected my device right away and put the kibosh on that experiment... not that it would have worked anyway seeing as how we don't have a 6.0.1 kernel... I was just hoping to get enough of the ROM installed so I could use TWRP's file manage to extract the files I want while still in recovery.
Anyway, now that my Note7 will be stuck with a non-rootable, unsupported, firmware for eternity; I figured it'd be fun to grab my old SM-P600 and see what havoc I can wreak on it.

Well , if you just want to play around , you can try out the stock Lollipop with my Prime Kernel and get better Performance and Battery or even CM13 / CM14 ... about the aroma , you can disable the device verification ... also I guess you can force the TW MM boot with Lollipop Kernel like it boots CM13 and CM14 ( I don't mean booting without any problems and also don't forget T-805's MM Kernels !! ) the Biggest problem is that we don't have a MM Bootloader which is the biggest problem ... anyway , this device is still so powerful to play newest games and OSs ... It's not fair to abandon it  ... You know ? I had a very busy day and I have been awake since around 6 AM when I woke for salat till now which is 12:41 AM :crying: !! so , My brain doesn't have any more juice and I need to get some sleep ... I hope you like my kernel ( esp. In case you'd like to test it out  ) ... I Updated it just some minutes ago
With Best Wishes
