My Galaxy s5 has been super laggy. I cleared the cache Partition and it runs great...until later tonight or tomorrow morning. Then if I clear the cache Partition again it runs great again. Is there a way to limit how much data the system cache Partition holds so my device will stop lagging? Thanks.
Find out which app is causing the problem and get rid, the cache is not causing the problem, something else is
That sounds right. Is there an app or chart that will show you which app is causing it? I'm not sure how to narrow it down.
There are plenty of apps that show rogue apps that are draining battery or using a high RAM/CPU resource, you could try one of those from the play store
But other than that, look back to approximately when the problem started, and which apps you installed just prior to that (Or however long it takes for the problem to show up once you clear cache) and remove those one by one
Or remove all apps (factory reset) and install them all again one by one
Also check play store app reviews for apps you are suspicious about, and see if anyone else is getting the same problem / google those apps and the problem
Cool. Thanks for the help. And so quickly at that!
Hooray!
I think I found the app. It was Kindlde for Samsung. That thing restarts like crazy. My phone is running much better thanks for the help.

I apparently transfered my low on space issue over to my new Aria when I did a backup/restore with Nandroid, which I already knew I would. My question is what are quick tips to release space? How can I clear inboxes, clear caches, things like this.
I'm currently using the free version of CacheMate (it's on the market/appbrain) and it works quite well for me. Though, I don't think clearing cache will get rid of your probably entirely so much as buy you some time. Clearing your SMS inbox is fairly simple, go into Messaging, hit Menu > Delete Threads and it'll clear them all. Again, I'm not sure how much in total this would all free up, but it's all that I know of right now, I haven't run into this issue yet, but if you are really runnin low, sweep through your apps and delete anything you may have forgotten about or don't really use.
I get this when ever I go below 20 megabytes in free space.

Like a lot of people, I would imagine, I have a constant battle to try and fit all of the apps that I want on my phone memory. There are a whole heap of apps already that I would like that I have had to delete already.
My phone memory was down to 2MB and I really want to add Skype to it now that has been launched. Knowing that I would never fit it on unless I deleted something, I decided to remove my greediest app, Documents to Go, which is also around 8.5MB - the same as Skype.
I deleted it, checked how much memory I had left, expecting there to now be 10.5MB, but found that it is still telling me that I only have 2MB left.
I have tried everything to try and find where the missing memory has gone - the app has definitely been removed from my phone.
Any ideas why I still don't have more than 2MB of memory after this?
Wipe cache.
Try to delete cache of all applications and then reboot the phone
I have gone through the caches of all of the apps that I can access and cleared them. This brings it up to 4MB, but it is still far short of the 8.5MB that I thought that I would have gained by deleting Documents to Go (which I never got around to using anyway).
I guess I really should wipe the thing and start again after downloading and deleting so many apps, but it will be a major pain to set everything up the way I like it.
Roll on Froyo when I can download apps onto the SD card, which should solve the problem once and for all.

Is your phone rooted? If yes, go to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik-cache.

No, it's not rooted. I looked at the process of rooting and it looks terrifying and complicated!
If it was rooted, then I know I could just install apps onto the SD card and then the problem would be solved immediately.
If Froyo doesn't get released for Legend soon though, I think I will have to try and root it though as this memory problem is really starting to drive me insane.
I've recently noticed my phone is becoming sluggish and slow. Lockscreen isn't 'fast' (wake up and slide, slider just sits there). There's a 2 second delay when I hit the home button or sleep/wake button before the screen shows anything.
When opening/exiting apps,it takes a couple of seconds, sometimes it gives a black blank screen.
Any one know of any fixes?
What exactly have you done with your phone?
Clearing your cache is something someone will recommend, so ill go ahead and tell you to try wiping your cache.

Well recently I frozen a couple of apps(couple of google syncs stuff I don't use),service menu, street view, tts service, the 4 verify certificate dummy apps <-- are these save to freeze?
That's all I can think of.
choose carefully which ones but with titanium I did an uninstall instead of freeze and my device runs much faster.
If simple tweaks don't work a fresh start will. You could always do a security wipe. worse case yet re flash device with flashtool. anyhow make backups with clockwork mod as you get it where you want it.
I took all my apps off the system and put them on my SD card.
HOWEVER their data remains, you should use sd maid from the market and clean your phone. Despite it's name, it cleans more than the SD card and it has a nice and easy ui!

I know about changing the scroll speed or animations on Nexus 7 but i'm looking for other solutions
I have a 32gb Nexus 7 that just started showing a lot of lags currently which didn't appear before (regardless of how many apps did i used with closing them). Lags start to show on Home menus, Dolphin browser is starting to lag as well (this didnt happen before).
Its quite annoying since it was smooth the last time i used it and now i feel like i'm using a gingerbread/ICS device which is quite frustating
i still have 9+ GB remaining free space out of the 27.35+GB. i think the space should be much of an issue since 9gb is still a lot.
You might try a cache cleaner app like 'Clean Master' or 'App Cache Cleaner.' Also, a shutdown, restart is good to do on occasion.
I just had this happen to me also.
I went to settings and storage, the cache took almost 6Gb of data so i taped that and cleaned it... Now it feels new again

I just wiped 800+mb of cache files, i also removed some movies from its memory just to make sure...
Is it possible that it might have viruses on it?
I have avast currently installed as a precaution and i didnt detect any viruses but i am starting to get oc/ paranoid about this.
i might use restore factory settings on it, as a last resort.
EDIT: i'm still waiting a few months for the warranty to wear off so i can root this thing..
try the DEV options: Force GPU rending..

I'll try that but that consumes more battery than usual. Thanks
Try Lagfix(FStrim) Free or Forever Gone booth work like a charm on my N7.
hi there,
I have just installed a new SD card the other day and i noticed that every time i access the "gallery" app, then not all thumbnails are loaded by default... it's still extremely fast but it seems is not caching EVERYTHING... does it take some time for that to cache everything?
I went under all applications and the size of the cache of "Gallery" is in fact growing... or is there a limit for which IF you have more than XYZ photos, then it will NOT cache all of it?
thanks,
Gabrio

Any ideas? Or maybe that is normal?
If I clear the cache, to make the gallery show all thumbs instantly, I have to slowly scroll through them all until they have all been generated
Subsequent visits to the gallery show the thumbs immediately, until I clear the cache again

So if i do the same thing and clear cache, it will be really slow.. then i do as you say and slowly scroll down the gallery until i see all thumbs, first time going slow and consequent times are faster, but not all thumbs are instantly there which makes me think cache is disabled or something?
I have all photos on the sd card and i think i have like 2-3000 photos in few different folders...
Just strange.. thanks
Gabrio
hi again,
so i have done more testing, it seems really strange.... the gallery app doesnt want to cache more than 50-60mb of stuff, on my wifeàs phone that is another S5 with a different Sd card, it caches 200MB without any issue and all thumbs are loaded fine after the first "slow load", could it be a problem with the SD card? its quite annoying..
also, if you do a photo with the camera, i noticed that it starts loading all thumbnails again, even the very recent ones... is there a setting somewhere for caching photos at all anyone knows ??
thanks,
Gabrio
