Hi everybody,
This is my first post here and I seriously hope someone can help me.
I unlocked my phone and was attempting to root it and flash Cyanogen's MOD. I flashed Armon_RA's recovery image into recovery partition using fastboot, but when I try to access it I'm getting an image of an android with a warning sign, which I can't post yet because I'm a newbie and mod's have to check my account... Once there the only thing I can do is remove the battery.
I've downloaded Armon_RA's img twice and from different sources and the same thing happens.
In terms of what I did, I tried to follow a step-by-step guide at androidandme.com, combined with Cyanogen's official Wiki.
I appreciate any kind of help,
Thanks!
BTW I'm on Ubuntu 9.10, in case it helps.
Took me like 4 times to flash the recovery before I got the care bear screen. Just keep flashing!
I just got it working right now and was about to post it had been fixed.
Thanks anyway!
Sorry for undigging this thread, but this thread is the first one which shows up when I searched for "android recovery warning".
I have spent the entire day trying to fix my Nexus One's recovery (I got stuck on the screen with a warning sign as well), with no success. Trust me, I tried (almost) everything possible to flash a new recovery/restore stock recovery.
What did work, though, was running fastboot flash recovery recovery.img 5 times in a row (remember to boot your phone in fastboot mode before sending these commands). That did the trick, and now I'm able to boot in recovery mode (Clockworkmod, by the way).
Thanks!

So how can I do a hard reset from this stock recovery when there's no menu commands, how do you use the stock recovery?
I have an unrooted S On nexus one that I need to hard reset because it boot loops for some reason, but didn't want to have to root it.

Push the power button and volume up buttons at the same time

Two buttons together ...
It is a common misconception that you have to push two buttons at the same time to activate some features. Trying to push them at exactly the same time is hit and miss and causes people to have issues.
In every case the combination is always hold one button down and then click the other button once ... much easier than clicking both together.
In this case I believe the combo is hold down power and then click Volume-Up once. (I may have it reversed).

It most likely is reversed. At least when you want to access the bootloader you want to hold down the volume down button (or maybe it is either volume button) and then turn on the phone. And with fastboot, you hold down the trackball as you turn on the phone.
I believe the volume up and powerbutton at the same was to "ok" the phone to apply an update.zip that was stored on the card (I remember doing that when I was running the Froyo build leaks from google).

OzCDN is correct, it is: hold down the power button and press volume up (the reverse does not work), but pushing them both together still works
Does anyone know how can i customize the options when long press of power button (as reboot, reboot to recovery etc). And it works on Arc with android 2.3
I think you need quick boot app

Hi vegetaleb,
I don't mean quick boot or any other app. I know you can customise the long power button option (if you have root) but i don't kwow the way
If anyone know something or any link, please!
Τι ακριβώς εννοείς;
All other phones I have give me the option to restart the phone, but not on the N4.
Is there a way to show the "Restart" option when the power button is long pressed without rooting and installing custom rom?
Thanks.
Short answer: Nope
The Restart/Reboot or even Boot to recovery is a feature of most Custom ROMs and is not built with Android.
But as the Nexus 4 has no handy battery to move you have to hold the power button for several secons which then reboot the phone. That should be the easiest way to solve your 'problem'.
HTC also includes those features in Sense in its power button options. It can be done with a fairly simple mod and eventually I'm sure someone will post one in the dev section if it not already in there.

I don't know why is it not in vanilla Android. HTC, Samsung phones have the option.
For me, I use the Restart button more than the "Power Off" button.
I use Power Toggles from the Play Store to restart, reboot and get to recovery.

I use an app called Quickboot. It gives you the option to reboot, reboot into bootloader, reboot into recovery, etc.
+1 for Quickboot...simple and effective!

I guess you don't need to boot into recovery to root, you simply need to boot into bootloader
If there's the "no command" message, press power and volume up (or down?) to bypass that

I can`t bypass that. I don`t know why but when I press power and volume up, technically I reboot device. which part I do wrong?
I wanna root my nexus with Universal Nexus Linux Toolkit and it says I can root my nexus without unlock bootloader. so I can use warranty.

I have same problem with myt Nexus 7 except that mine is rooted (with Nexus 7 Toolkit v1.5). Recovery mode has the dreaded "No Command" message and no combination of button presses will take it past that screen - except into normal reboot.
I've got the same no command message and no combination of buttons with the power & volume rocker will get me out of it. looking for suggestions.

Motochopper exploit has been out and about for a while, although your mileage may vary. KhoC, it's generally better practice to go through fastboot first. Reboot by holding power and both volume buttons (up and down). You should get to a black screen with an android in the center, and a tab at the top that will say things like Reboot bootloader, Recovery, Power Off, and other such things. Scroll with the volume buttons, select with power.

Care to tell us what combinations you've tried? Saying that none of them work is generally unhelpful, since it's possible you're just forgetting one/slightly malforming the correct sequence.

Yea sorry. I've tried power + volume up, power + volume down & power + both volume up/down at both powering it it on and while the device is actually on. while the device is on, if I press power + volume up, all it does is dim/brighten the screen. power + volume down does nothing. When I'm pressing the buttons, I'm holding them down, which will eventually reboot the device. I get the Google logo and the unlocked padlock, then the android laying down with no command below it.
Edit: I started my own thread this morning about it titled "Need help recovering my Nexus 7" a few posts down so not to hijack this one that has a little more info as well.

It was rooted, and the tech never asked. To be honest, I'm not sure how one would tell if it won't even boot. I'll find out I guess.

Press first power and then volume+ !
Hello'
i have the same issue ( no command in recovery mode )
And first, i have tried volume + and power button, this don't work
Then i take a look to this post, and see that i have to press first power and then volume + , And this is working for me
Thank you
I am super new to rooting I mainly use it for PokemonGo. I am following this video on YouTube.
Basically when I flashed via Odin, I then install Magisk. Then everything is working and rooted BUT when I restart my phone my Magisk is then magically unrooted (I dont know if this is the right term) it says 'Magisk is not installed' and underneath that is says 'Magisk Manager is up to date'
So why does it keep doing this? Everytime this happens I need to Flash again via Odin and do the whole procedure again. This only happens when I restart the phone. Why does it keep doing this and how do I fix this? I will pay someone who can fix this for me. Ive been trying to figure out for the past day and Im going insane. I have no knowledge about rooting etc like i said i just want to play Pokemongo location spoofing.
Appreciate everyones help.
If you are on the stock ROM, you need to restart into recovery to activate Magisk.
Hi what is a stock rom and do I have that? What is this recovery? Sorry I am new

How do I do that?
You can press Power + Bixby + Volume Up then after seeing the bootloader warning screen, release all buttons so it can boot to the system.
You can also enable advanced restart in developer options.
Stock ROM is the one that comes with the phone.

Hi yes I remember doing the 'Power + Bixby + Volume Up' after flashing. So that part is done unless I'm doing something wrong?
What is this advance restart in developer options? Where is that and what does it do? If I do this what do I do after? Will this fix the Magisk not installed when I restart my phone? Also when I turn off my phone and turn it back on it works and it keeps Magisk so its just restarting the phone that is causing the problem.
Appreciate your help
So this topic is the same as the other one I replied to hence the "double vision" comment.
I believe you need to Power + Bixby + Volume Up every time you restart.
Advanced restart will allow you to enable rebooting into recovery (magisk mode), so you don't need to press the button combo, unless you need the actual recovery.
What guide did you use to install magisk?

If I press that when I restart phone then isn't that risky? If I mess up then I need to format my phone again to get magisk again?
Whats this advance rebooting? Will this fix my problem?
I followed this video https://youtu.be/o3a8YnWT3yk
Just looking at that video I'm not sure if advanced restart is an option on the stock ROM, i use LineageOS (custom ROM).
The button combo shouldn't be risky, if you hold it for too long just select the option to restart and try again.

I'm really confused so which part of the video am I suppose to do?
Since you already have magisk, you need to press the button combo every time you restart, if you want magisk.
Pressing the button combo activates magisk., and holding the button combo activates the recovery.

OK so everything I restart my phone I need to hold down bixy, volume up and power? When do i stop holding down the combo? Also let's say I mess up will my magisk not work or can I restart my phone again and do the combo or do I have to re flash via Odin and format phone? Sorry I just want to make sure because I've re flashed and formated my phone about 90000 times ?
Thank you
