on a I-mate jam it's possible to turn on speaker while calling so you can speak "handsfree".
This can be done by holding down the green call button.
When I do this the sounds of the speaker is de same as normal only the sounds comes from the back of the phone instead of the front.
Does anybody know how to fix this? A friend of mine has the same phone without a problem.

Have you tried while you are on the speakerphone mode to make the volume slider higher?
That ain't gonna help you. This is a known - and unsolved problem with the Jam. If you really need a speakerphone, you should return the phone. No amount of firmware/ROM update will help you.
I use the speakerphone option without any problems. The sound is loud and clear. What is this unresolved JAM problem that you're talking about?
Jam speakerphone volume problem
My XDA1 had the best speakerphone I've ever used, including corded phones. I could be in a conferance room with 10 people around the table and everyone could hear, speak and the participate on the phone never had problems with background noise. I have a hard time accepting that next generation technology from the same manufacturer should be woefully inadequate. The unit is advertised as a speakerphone, the solution is to return my phone and purchase another? No thanks friend, anyone reading this with solutions please respond.
I only have the phone for 1 month now so I´ll return it
tnx for the help
I think most of us don't know how to hold the mini in the right way, while the phone is in speaker mode...
if u want to hear a load voice.. make sure that back of the phone faces ur ear..
that' because the mini has 2 speakers... and the one in the back( near the mirror) is loader.. so you will hear the conversation very well...
and BTY.. I suggest u upgrade to the latest ROM available for ur device..
it helped me a lot....
cheers

Wrong - its patently obvious that the sound is coming from from the back speaker. Why on earth it comes frm the back is another question entirely, given that the speaker phone is supposed to free up your hands so you do other things, including multi-task on the device i.e looking at the screen! Every other phone I've had has a decent speakerphone - and they face the front too.
But the main problem is that the volume from the supposed "speakerphone" is too damn low, irregardless of location.
Considering all the huge volumes of prior experience that HTC has (making practically every Microsoft PPC device, smartphones, plus the Palm Treo phone), things like this awful speakerphone on the magician are really not excusable at all.
I went through 3 TREO 600s due to speaker problems. You could barely hear the speaker phone on the 600 either. ANd to top that off, no one could hear you! The JAM is nice, but the more that I use it, the more I wish that either I bought something else or that the the JAM could just work the way it was designed!!!!!!
1.3 Mega pixel camera... my ass! It's the same quality as my first Casio digital camera from '96. Not mention the fact that Imate can't even put a decent ROM update together.
Perhaps we should build our own PPC's!
P.S. PM me if you want the CEO and VP of Imate's e-mail address. I e-mailed them and they actually wrote back! -Of course they weren't very helpful though.
One time, I turned on this speakermode operation on my MDA-Compact, I could hear my phonecall loud and clear from the built-in speaker.... This happenend accidently, probably by pressing just the right button, but I wasn't aware....
I cannot find how to do this again? How can I get the MDA-Compact to operate in speakermode using the built-in speaker?
I'm searching this (and other forums) quite a while now, but I cannot find my solution?!
Any help will be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Igor.

hi everyone,
i have a question, but first let me explain my problem. both my wife and i are on the t-mo network. i have the wing and she has some sort of new moto w490. whenever we talk i have to hold my phone three inches from my head due to the loudness of her voice. i have the volume all the way down, but that doesn't help. this is only the case when talking to her. so, is there any solution to this on my end?
thanks in advance
oh, and i have already asked her to talk softer, but that doesn't work

ILL CHECK TO SEE IF THE SPEAKER IS ON REASON IS IF YOU HOLD THE TALK BUTTON TO ANSWER IT AUTOMATICALLY PUTS TH E SPEAKER PHONE ON
TRY USEING THE SOFT KEYS TO ANSWER
no speaker here
I'm not using the speaker, just the regular phone to the ear for me. also if i'm understanding you correctly, i use the softkey to answer. ultimately i would like my volume to go lower than it is. this way i can just lower her on my end. do you know of any tweaks that decrease the lowest level w/o decreasing the highest level?
there is a reg tweak i dont remember where it is i think it is in "all you need on your wing" but check there it might be albe to answer your question
sounds good (get it?)
great! i'll check for it and post my discovery's.
thanks a bunch
No Problem
nothing there
well i looked around but didn't see anything in the "all you need" thread. oh well.
Hi friends.
Two quick questions:
1. How can I decrease the volume when I receive phone calls? Yesterday I was on the phone, volume ALL DOWN yet people could hear what the other party was saying.
2. Every now and then when someone calls me, I either don't hear anything and he has to call back or else the conversation is a pain as sound keeps on cutting.
Are there any fixes for these?
Cheers.
1) known problem, no solution. The problem is HD2 thinks the volume is lower then it is, and that is why it won't let you lower the volume anymore. If you turn the volume all way up first, you will be able to lower it.
2) never happened to me.
Thanks mate, hopefully someone can help with #2.
I fixed #2.
Basically 3G reception is a pain in my area so I set the phone to always use GPRS and everything is now working like a charm.
Hello everyone i have had my galaxy for awhile now and i dont know why i never posted this but phone reception is very bad. When someone calls me or i call someone i can hardly hear them, this is with the volume turned up to max.....is there a volume hack or something to turn up volume on inner calls past the max ?....anything at all would be helpful.
There is a way to turn up your volume but you'd have to do it every time you reboot your phone, just search the forums for it. I never had a problem with my galaxy s phones gt-i9000m and I had two of them. Maybe your phone is defective and you can exchange it?

are you sure you are putting the earpiece where it's supposed to go?
if you have it higher, you wont hear it, if you have it lower you wont hear it
it has to be exactly facing your inner drums
it's the same with all other phones i've had in the past
have you tried Bluetooth? perhaps that will work better for you?
my SGS sounds loud and clear, and i got bad hearing
Same problem with mine. I find it has something to do with the signal though. When I call OCTranspo or my voicemail or something it's loud and clear, but when I speak to people it always sounds like they're whispering.
hmm it seems fine right now....i really hope it was cause i was in a dead spot or low signal reception when i was on the phone....i will monitor the phone for the next few days and post here if i fall into this problem again thanks for the help guys!...oh and Gamer ill look into that bluetooth headset maybe.
the first 2 are recorded messages, so the audio quality is expected to be the same all the time
those are very good point of reference
that means whatever it is the problem is not the phone earpiece, but the people talking on their end
otherwise you'll be hearing whisper like sound from the voice recorded systems

I used that hack. worked alright
G'day all
My mum just bought herself a new Wildfire, and so far she's liking it, but she reckons that the ringtone volume on it is not as loud as her old Nokia N95-3. Has anyone tried hacking the volume on the Buzz yet? Would I have to r00t the phone?
Hope you can all help, and thanks all in advance?
PS: Would a Froyo Sense ROM be worth installing, over having Eclair with the Telstra crap there?
Anyone?

Don't root - if you charge the phone whilst it is off and then remove the cable the light remains and you have to remove the battery to make it usable
and to increase the rinfer volume press the up button on the left when music isn't playing
Umm, hate to say it, but it seems you're getting the wrong idea about my problem, mate.
Well the first thing I did was I made sure that the ringer volume was turned up full bore using the volume rocker on the side, like come on, the ringer volume level setting would be the first thing most people would check before they'd post this stuff on XDA.
By the way, the notification LED isn't the problem btw. I only asked if I would have to root the phone to adjust some low level setting to make Android give more volume out the speaker than what it currently allows.

Oops my bad I'll try turning off that feature, and let you know how I go.
And I might wait a bit before rooting, now that you mention that CWMod on the wildfire is rather wonky when you charge it.
Cheers for that mate!
