Background:
My 2007 Jeep Commander has the factory REC navigation system with rear seat entertainment, back up camera, and Boston Acoustics sound. The REC head unit has and had its problems, and I'm excited about the idea of an Android HU, but I have many questions.
Questions:
Since my Jeep uses CANBUS, do I need a CANBUS adapter to install an Android HU?
Can these units play movies on the OEM rear seat video screen? Also, do they support wireless headphones? (I have kids! )
Is there a way to get my OEM back up camera to work with one of these HU's?
That's a few to get started. I appreciate any help/advice/experience anyone can share on any and all of my questions. thanks.

I have installed a chinese Pumpkin Android head unit in my Toyota Previa van and after adding an external 3G router and connecting it via an ethernet adapter and an car roof antenna I am now extremely pleased. I get close to perfect streaming video on the road!
I would love to supplement the small Pumpkin display with a roof mounted flip down monitor so the back passengers can watch youtube on a decent size screen. There are many of those on the market, so that should be easy.
However, it turns out that the video output connector of the Pumpkin head unit is only connected to signal of the DVD player! And I stubbornly refuse to go back to juggling with silver disks.
I assume these Android head units coming from China are all very similar. Has anyone ever tried isolating the signal of the head unit's LCD screen and connecting it to an external monitor? If so, please let me know so I can install a monitor that just mirrors the head unit's display.

Tinkerspy
I would also love to do this. My factory system output to the headrest screens for back passengers. Since I installed the Android head unit, everything works fine but only outputs to the rear screens if a DVD is inserted - I would love to just be able to duplicate whatever is on the screen so I can play YouTube, Netflix etc. on the rear screens.

Hi, Did you solve the problem?
thanks
I just haven't had time to look at it - been too busy. However, I didn't mention above that my yellow video RCA cables on the back of the unit were mis-labeled and my backup camera ended-up working with a different plug - so I will hopefully get some time to try out what the other RCA video plugs actually do next week when I free up a bit.
Any news about it?

I'd be really interested to hear if it was possible to output video from a source other than DVD to external monitors [emoji106]
Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
I've found that some of these Android head-units output ALL video to external monitors and some only output DVD and/or Aux-In to external monitors.
For example, I purchased two GM-specific units - an Eonon GA9180A (MTCE-WWW) and a Hizpo (MTCE-XRC). The Eonon sends ALL video to the video-out jacks (OS launcher, DVD, navi, all apps, etc), but the Hizpo only sends DVD and Aux-in to the video-out jacks.
I know this doesn't help you since you already have the unit (unless you can still exchange/return it), but it may help others that are still in the "research" phase...
dragging this up again..
Does anyone know/think it's possible to pipe video to external monitors from sources other than DVD on these units???
Cheers

I am not sure if one of them is for the Onstar since my car does not have steering wheel controls.
I am in need of help of what harness I need, and what mounting bracket do I need to buy to fit whatever. Not many with Suburbans making guides. I would really appreciate help guys
What I want out of the unit is to play spotify, be able to use radio ofc, and since I want a Android head unit, I would like the option to download stuff from Play Store.
Hi
Im a bit tech savy but not great and sorry if this has already been asked. I have a Pumpkin (see below) I have the aux lead that goes in the back, I understand Ipods have an issue connecting to Android 8.0 or newer, I just wondered if anyone has come up with an app that works with it or anyway it can work? Or if Ipod doesent work anymore is there a way of connecting an old Android phone through Aux so I can just keep all my music inside it in the glovebox. I know you can connect via bluetooth and I also know I can run spotify through the unit, just would really like all my music just sat in the car without having to rely on data or the internet for music to run.
Also is it easy to upgrade to Android 9.0?

Hi everyone,
My name is Max and today I bricked my headunit Nothing fancy because it was 8227l_demo with 2gb/32gb. I'm looking for the best android headunit for now. Size 9". Android 9.1/10 + DSP. Can you all recommend something for me? TEYES CC2 Plus is a good one?

Depends on your budget. I would start with Rockchip PX6, PX5 or PX3. Just make sure it's a MTCx unit (so MCU type starts with letters MTC)

I just took delivery of one. (3/ 32GB)
Seems very well made. According to most YouTube videos I've seen in general, it is as fast as you need it to be, no bad signs of lag and of course if you're using a phone hotspot also depends on your WiFi. It will do me TBH vs. another sim card bill.
Audio quality is reportedly a plus too (which is important obviously)
I seen 2gb units with preloaded apps loading nicely, playing USB HD video files, GPS maps.
Pic is of unit inside Astra Mk6 OEM fascia fitting you get a GM canbus decoder and another speaker unit for indicators door open warning sounds.
I suppose like most gadgets any cons will be personal and appear after spending time with it.
I will report again after I install it after holidays. I botched a couple of photo uploads. If anyone needs any pics let me know. Merry Christmas Folks.
I have to say it's a neat little device with surprisingly decent A/V quality.
All the usual apps Spotify, Netflix, Prime, YouTube work perfectly.
Just connect your Google acc for most direct main app settings.
(If Google is not a preference, Admittedly I'm not surprised)
I have all connections in place, incl. 8pin CANbus but unfortunately the CANbus decoder is not sending a signal to the CC2 plus unit.
It's a Raise RSC and a guy on YouTube told me he got a Raise RZS which works fine.
(Seller said there is NO Raise RZS only RZC)
I'm disappointed as I've said it's a good unit and a working CANbus would have been icing on the cake as I get no reaction from cd 400 control button panel, Steering wheel controls, Door open warnings, A/C display etc.
I can't think where I go from here except try a different decoder. It's a decent probability I have a non working CANbus. And I've tried a lot of attempting to connect it.
EDIT Feb 2021: CANbus issue resolved.
There was a very slightly misaligned pin in the CANbus decoder connection zone
(zone c on CC2plus)
So I straightened it as best as I thought, connected 8 pin connection from loom and now it all works fine.
Incl; Door open warning s - Original cd400 unit fascia buttons / Steering Wheel buttons - A/C display etc. So happy days.
This may be a really dumb question, but I just got my first ever car with canbus.
All my previous cars are all old school, so bear with me
I just picked up an older lexus es350 hat has the object detection on the front and the rear of the car.
Do android headunits support this, and if so how exactly are they implemented? Ie: does it beep when I'm reversing close to an object like the stock headunit?
There's a few radio options on Ali that are made for my car and come with harnesses already, so I THINK that means the Hu has canbus support... I'm just not sure what features will work and what won't.
Are some Chinese headunits have better canbus support than others? Thanks!
