Anyone know of a way to stream video from the HERO to another device? I'm sure the EVO can do it since its got HDMI out. Basically what I'm looking for is soon here on my vacation I was thinking if my 11 month old gets fussy I could stream micky mouse which I already have in mp4 format on my phone to my portable DVD player.
My dvd player is old though and I only see AV out and AV in. No svideo, rca or anything. It may not even be possible. I'm open to buying something else cheap tho. Any other ideas?
I wonder if I could just buy a smal 8 inch portable TV off amazon and stream it to there? In the car ride of course
It appears that the functionality needs to be in the hardware. It might be possible to do on our phones but I don't think it is possible to have a general any Android with USB support type of thing. I would imagine modules would have to be compiled into the kernel for it to work so it would be on a phone to phone basis with a custom ROM and that is probably why no one has put the effort into it.
n/m I found an HTC OEM usb mini to RCA cable that will work wonders. My brother in law uses it to stream video from his phone to his car LCD display.
Anyone know of a TV OUT android app though? I'm assuming you'd need something like that
Hi guys long time lurker. I have a few roms under my belt on this Droid X, a couple of nook tablets, and my Galaxy Tab P3113 (Stock JB Rooted).
Anyway this old DX is long in the tooth and my VZW contract is up so like the thread below Im repurposing it. I already have a few emulators and video streamers installed but Im really into music so I have my whole collection ripped to apple lossless. I stream it around my house through wifi-N and Logitech Music Server s/w with Squeezebox hardware. I found a paid app on Google Play called Squeeze Player that turns your android device into a hardware player that can stream and serve lossless music. You can then use the offical Logitech Squeezebox Remote app to control it from a tablet, your new phone, or your computer.
The retired DX is perfect for this but has no usb host or OTG functionality so USB out is a no go. It does have an HDMI output that is locked down by Verzon but can be unlocked with Root access and a paid app called RealHDMI. It outputs 720p video through a micro hdmi port. I dont know what kind of sound quality it outputs but I bet its being resampled to 16 bit 48khz. As a test I hooked it up to my TVs HDMI input and streamed some Apple Lossless files from my laptop. Squeezeplayer transcodes ALAC to FLAC, which the player then outputs through RealHDMI to the TV.
At the moment Im broke but I don know of an audiophile/better than your average DAC that accepts 2 HDMI signals and outputs analog or HDMI. It has variable sampling rates and is designed and manufactured in California. Its the HRT HDMI streamer. Anyone with deeper pockets care to take this experiment further feel free to post here.
I have
PC-->WIF-->DX-->RealHDMI app-->TV/Stereo/DAC?
Im going to write to the developer of Real HDMI to see if he can add something to his app to keep the HDMI output native to the stream or file. Less conversions= better sound.
Peace.
My Nexus Q is slowly collecting dust on my entertainment center. It looks pretty, but being limited to Google Play or YouTube content only just bites. I've already got an iOS device and a receiver that supports Airplay (which quite frankly works much more reliably), so I don't have a reason to leave it plugged in beyond the novelty of it.
What I'd love to do, however, is use for the "audiophile quality" amp it supposedly has in another room with some vintage Bose 301 speakers I have and my desktop PC. Is there any way to get audio in on this thing? It's got optical audio out, would installing CM10 allow me to change that port to optical input instead? Or how about USB, would any hack or rom allow me to plug it into my PC and use it as a USB-Audio device?

The only thing I could think of would be an app that makes it a Bluetooth audio reciever. But it doesn't appear to have one. Last I tried cm10.1 the amp didn't work. Just HDMI. You could sell it
Just buy a new Nexus 7 yesterday with Netgear PTV3000, and want to enjoy movie and games in wireless..
But stupid thing happened..my TV doesn't have internal speakers, I used to connect my PS3 to AMP via fiber to get 5.1 sound.
How can I separate the audio by original 3.5mm or bluetooth? Now I cannot hear anything when connected to Netgear PTV3000...:crying:
Anyone could help? Thanks!!

Wow sounds like you need a video converter box that will give you audio seperate from video. You can't use bluetooth speakers. I tried that to get better audio. The only other thing you could try is a speaker plugged into the headphone jack.

Yeah i wanted better sound so I tried using a bluetooth speaker but it didn't work.
Oh btw you have no audio outputs in your tv? Not sure what soneone would be thinking to make a tv with no speakers and hdmi as well.
I have this problem too. I need to play my sound through Bluetooth speakers but Miracast will not allow me to do so. Interestingly, my Sony Xperia Z was an exception. It allowed me to play into Miracast and Bluetooth speakers at the same time, so I am convinced that it is a software implementation issue. Unfortunately, the Sony Z will disconnect me from wifi internet whenever Miracast is working.

SORRY, I spoke too soon... Sony Xperia Z (Android 4.3) does NOT allow the Bluetooth speakers to work together with Miracast either, although it DID work before. Whatever it is, in all summary, Miracast does NOT work with Bluetooth speakers! (or 3.5mm audio headset)
The sound is being sent to the tv as it is supposed to be. You need to pull the audio from there.

I"m just now learning about miracast, could those of you who use it explain it a little?
If I understand it correctly, even if your tv doesn't have any built in ability I can buy a dongle and make it work?
Also, this will allow me to play videos from my tablet SD card to the tv, not just stream vids like chromecast?
Again, Allcast + Chromecast (or Roku, console, or smart TV). Stream whatever you want to tv,

I thought Chromecast only let you stream Netflix and YouTube or other online movies. So you're saying the allcast app will work with Chromecast and allow me to watch movies saved on SD card?
Looks like I'm going to try the all cast/ chrome cast route next. I tried a slimport dongle from amazon, saw my screen for a second. Next tried a netgear miracast ptv3000, could only connect for a couple seconds and then lost the connection. Why is something that should be so simple so flipping difficult?

Some miracasts work with some tvs , same with slimport. Kinda a crap shoot . wish I didn't have to get them online and wait for mail to see if they work. Lol. Not many stores have them. Best buy has one sad little google display with n7 2013 n5 and chromecast.. . that's it. Ha
The chromecast/allcast app combo is working perfectly. Setting up the chromecast was easy, way easier than the netgear setup. My n7 connected right away and using the allcast app is very easy. I've been watching video for a solid hour now with no stutters or interruptions. For a total of $40 it's definitely worth it, thank you for the suggestion.

Thanks Player911, this app is awesome but still no hope for games....:crying:
1. I am using a monitor, not a TV. So thereis no "Audio Out".
2. I want to use Miscast, not Chrome cast. NOT interested in Chrome cast. Thank you for your understanding.
Just wondering if it's possible to use nexus 10 as essentially a portable hdmi monitor. I would like to Sometimes play console in lounge without taking up the TV and just wondered if it's possible to connect console to nexus basically... I already have a HDMI to mini HDMI lead... Wireless would be even better although not essential... Briefly investigated screen cast but seems like this is only designed to wirelessly stream to a TV (which already has hdmi input)
Many Thanks,
Sam.
Ps my N10 is currently not rooted although I would consider rooting if it would enable such a possibility

N10 is designed for OUTPUT only.
That said, it's resolution is high enough that it would be a cool feature, but it's OUTPUT only.
Thanks for the reply I figured that might be the case, any ideas if its possible in a virtual sense? Ie plug a transmitter into console or other hdmi output and have it transmit the signal which can be picked up in an app like YouTube (but source is generated from transmitter rather than the Web)
Thanks again

Only solution I know of right now is Onlive, but then you have to pay for the game AND a subscription.

This might be possible, depending on what you want to play.
If it's a DVD/blu ray, you can stream that on a local wifi network with VLC on a computer, and play it on MX player on your tab, just point MX to the address of the stream.

I'm after doing it without a intermediary computer, that said I'm currently looking into hdmi to composite adapter into a raspberry pi and using that to stream to network and picking it up via this mx player you mentioned...

That could be possible, but yikes! HDMI to composite is like going back light years of technology!
But yeah I've wanted to do the same in the past, to run my GameCube without a TV.
I ended up with a LCD hdtv with hdmi, component, composite and vga, so I just use that (mostly for my PS3 now).
I actually just ordered a pi last week!
I'm going to use it as a file server with a 1.5TB usb drive, and also a Wi-Fi repeater, on top of that, a torrent box (qBittorrent with http remote interface).
Gl though with the video thing!
