One Click Root - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone tried this method for rooting:https://www.oneclickroot.com/root/nvidia-shield-android-tv-lmy47d-32494_558-0439-5-1/. If so what were your results. Since I do not know a lot about rooting by adb this looks very tempting to me but, I would appreciate someone with more knowledge than me and knows how to recover from a bad flash to try it first and then let me know. There will be some beer money for someone who can do this.

if the hboot is 1.49 s-on then you cannot root using the traditional methods. there are 2 threads about a new method, but it is not consistent and more fails than successes. the process may get easier as more people succeed.
Ya that's what I need help on is the new process. Also I don't know how to do it because they are using terminology I don't understand

please help with 1.49 s-on

Today I got a refurbished Eris with1.49. I'm having problems finding a root method for it. I keep running into threads that talk about rooting leak version. Is this the same? Also, I cant find the files to download and push on I my refurbished Eris. Where do need to look to do this? Like the update.zip.
Is there a thread that goes in to pretty good detail on how to do this?
Also how do I reformat my SD card? I read some where that that to be done a certain way too.
Thanks for all of your help.
P.s.I'm thinking I might just send back my refurbished Eris and keep my old one. The only thing wrong is that my speaker sounds blown. Which gets annoying but I might have to learn to deal with it. Instead if going through this head ache.

this is where you need to read thats your only way
This is the main thread for an experimental root method for the leak (bootloader 1.49):
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711535 (Can't post links)
It explains everything you have to do in detail it even has two video showing the what needs to be done. But as I said, it's experimental, there have been limited success reports, but you may give it a try. I haven't had any luck with it, but try it.
Thanks for the quick replies!! Ill have I try it tomorrow after work if I have some success ill let you know.
Thanks again its a big help

You have access to alter any system files, use themes, change boot images, delete annoying stock apps, that might drive you crazy. I don't think there is a sticky on just what to do with root. A good place to start is here

It has things to do with root.
Hope this gives you some help

Here's the answer to your question, research. Sorry bro, not trying difficult but that's the honest answer. Read, read some more and then read again. Your gonna have to put some skin on the table if you want the reward my friend. Have fun!

OTA Captured & New Manufacturer Info

Hi! I've managed to capture the OTA. You can download the OTA here.
In addition, I've discovered that the Nook was likely designed and is developed by a Chinese company called emdoor. The Nook is incredibly similar to their EM-T8370.
I'm currently trying to get the kernel source and firmware from various sources. Hopefully I can find some development resources from emdoor and B&N. I'm really hoping to get this device unlocked!
Thank you! Let me know if you need anything tested
Yes yes please! I've tried Kingoroot, KingRoot, SrsRoot, towelroot (learned that that doesn't work anymore), and who knows what else...
I really want to root (I would install a custom ROM if I could), but so far no luck.
If we can get the bootloader unlocked, we're one step closer to flashing superSU.
Thank you for helping us out!

Nothing right now!
@rockon999,
How's it going? Have you been able to finish downloading the firmware and mess around with it?

Help! (I need someone to retrieve a file from a non-bricked device).

Don't worry about this. I've sent it in for repairs and I'll probably be purchasing a second development Nook for the future.
I've been trying to find time to give this a try. Maybe tomorrow?

Thank you so much! B&N did not make developing on this device easy. The nougat update (which I hope will show up at some point) should give us the full software (hopefully). Lots of hope.
I'd love to do this for you.
I do have a working understanding of rooting various devices, rooting, installing custom ROMs, basic adb/fastboot functions, etc. However, I am far from an expert or developer and the linked forum post is fairly confusing to me. It seems to suggest that the tool won't work at all with 6.0 devices. Google didn't help.
If you could explain exactly what you need done, I'd be more than happy to pull the bin for you.
Yeah, same here. I'd love to help, but I'm not quite sure what to do.
I don't want to brick my device either. You didn't brick it using MTK did you?

Are they going to fix it though, after you made a big mess of it (and probably voided the warranty)?

All it needs is a flash of the stock image. It really depends on what they decide to do. In most cases companies will just flash it and resell or send it back. Fairly minimal. It's a worthless brick to me right now.
It doesn't take a large mess to brick a device. One file mishap and the device can simply decide not to boot.
Regardless, if they won't fix under warranty many will still allow repairs for a service charge.
