My Galaxy S4 had no issues connecting to the network in Canada. Not sure which one it was connecting to but it worked fine. My MXPE will not connect to anything at all in Global or CDMA mode. It shows the available networks, Rodgers, TELUS, and BEll, and I have Automatically select preferred enabled, but it won't pick up any of them. Is it because this phone is unlocked and not a Verizon branded phone? This is a bit frustrating, how do I make it work? Must I get a SIM from one of their carriers? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well why would you overpay for roaming charges with Verizon. I would suggest get a local prepaid sim in Canada. I learned that every country you visit it will be always cheaper then paying Verizon.

I don't want to use data, just texting. I can't even connect to one of their networks. My Galaxy S4 had no issues at all. As soon as I am in Canada with the GS4, all I had to so was set the mode to LTE/CDMA and it would pick up one of their networks and I could call and text all day. Of course the calls would cost me money but the texts wouldn't. Again I am on Verizon and with the GS4 I had no issues. I didn't need to get a different SIM or anything, it just worked. My MXPE sees all the available networks but will not connect to any of them. My friend I am travelling with has the Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo and his works perfect too. Automatically connects to their network no problem. So what is the deal with the MXPE? I looked at the SPECS and it seems to support the correct LTE bands. If it didn't, I don't think it would even see any of the networks here in Canada. This is a little frustrating and disappointing.

Maybe you need to activate roaming or something with Verizon. I read some people had problems with this because it shows as non-vzw device.

No joy, she said everything looked fine on Verizon's end, with my account. This is really pissing me off. I guess you get what you pay for, and buying a carrier unlocked phone gets you no service outside the US, unless you pay extra for it. Guess the GS4 will be put back into use when I come up here, unless someone can shed some light onto something I am doing wrong.

Sorry man I wish I could help some more. Maybe you can also try to go into the hidden menu and force it into LTE/CDMA or LTE only or something similar. I am unsure if any Canadian providers use CDMA though. Might be worth trying LTE/GSM only or LTE only.

Where is this hidden menu you speak of. Is it the one you get to using *#*#4636#*#*? I have tried all of the Network options under the cellular networks-->Preferred network type setting. I have Global, LTE/CDMA, and LTE/GSM/UMTS and I have tried them all. No luck, it simply says can't connect to network try again later. Like I said my travel partners Droid Turbo connected without issue.

Yea it's weird and yes that is the one I was talking about. What about if you scan for networks and manually connect? when I was in Europe my sim allowed to roam on all networks (local sim) and I could switch networks like that.

I've tried selecting each one manually and it doesn't work either. It's very frustrating, I am really annoyed with this and it sucks to have to break out my old phone just to be able to come up here to Canada and have service. This to me is a major fail on Motorola's behalf. Unless there is something wrong with my SIM, but my phone works fine in the US. I think it's a Motorola issue since it sees all the networks perfectly fine but will not connect to them. Sad to say but this would happen if I had a Samsung device. It shouldn't be this difficult and if Motorola dropped the ball here that is a shame.

Sorry then that I couldn't help . I'd say it's more Verizon issue because it shows as non Vzw device 2-3 months later, even with nexus 6p you would have that until Verizon fully has it in their system.

On my account it shows as Motorola XT1575. It doesn't say unknown. It just doesn't show a picture of the device. The Verizon rep said everything looked good on their end. Even had me power down my device and restart it. They said they were resetting something on their end to see if it would work, of course it didn't. Not sure what to think. It would be nice if others could chime in with experiences outside the US with their MXPE and state whether they had any issues.
Solved!! It was a provisioning issue. They needed to turn on USA and Canada pay as you go roaming. It was that simple, I just need to get a Verizon Rep that knew what the heck they were doing. As soon as he turned it on my phone started working. Thank you Andrew at Verizon, you're the man!

I really want to get one of these G2 phones. Att's phones are horrible and their service is going down hill as well.
THe only problem is their coverage in my area is far superior to TMO.
When the G2 is able to be unlocked how would popping a prepaid sim card in the G2 work?
Would the G2 all of a sudden be able to use all of the ATT network with only limitation being edge only? Or would I have to configure the phone to use ATTs data and or voice?
I'd like to just tape the pre-paid sim to the inside battery case and pop it in when needed, but if it's time consuming to make the swap I might reconsider.
I don't think the G2 supports AT&T's 3G bands, so while it will work you won't have any fast data. Why not just get an iPhone4? Granted it has iOS, but the hardware is better than anything Android. Having said that I still bought a G2 because I hate AT&T.

Thanks. I'm aware that I won't have 3G- that's not a problem since I'll only use the ATT sim card when I leave the city- not much.
That's why I ask if it's as simple as popping in the ATT sim card and being able to get SMS/MMS/Data etc without having to change a bunch of settings?
I'd just forward my TMO number to the ATT sim.

By this, I take it you mean to pay for 2 accounts? The only way you will have a TMo number is if you have service with them.
As for the settings, you could probably do it with an ATT sim if the radio bands overlap. As others have mentioned, you'll be limited to edge speeds at best, so it's probably a real bad idea.
Honestly, AT&T's network is pretty bad these days. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's better than Tmo.

When I leave town i hit edge speeds on ATT anyways so what's the diff??
I would have a primary TMO line and a pre-paid ATT sim with access to data for when I hit the few spots that TMO doesn't cover.
I simply want to know if you have to mess with data settings to get data while switching between phones.
Once you swap SIM cards the phone should pick up the network automatically, but is it really worth it to swap sim cards (which includes shutting the phone down, removing battery, replacing card, putting battery back in, starting up phone, as I'm sure you know) just to get service out in the middle of nowhere? I mean I understand the need to be always connected, but is it really worth it?
No you don't have to do any switching. Just initial setup. You have to acquire an unlock code from t-mobile so your ATT sim works on it. Once you do that you can do voice calls. You need to add the APN for ATT in the network settings.
The APN which stands for Access Point Name is basically a collection of settings and variables to allow the phone to connect to the data network.
Since the G2 will already have the T-Mobile settings you just need to get the settings for ATT from ATT, unless you google it.
Hope i helped.

Just so nobody gets confused. Of course you have to switch the sim card, but apart from that nothing else.
LOOK AT THE SIGNATURE LINE! YA BABY!
I plan on using the att card when I know ill be in a remote area without TMO voice or data for extended periods. Long drive, the beach, the mountain, camping etc. I wouldnt switch in a situation that only warranted the need to do a quick switch.

Anybody out there with the Google edition running on AT&T have LTE speeds working?
Here in the Atlanta metro area, we are supposed to have LTE on AT&T, but the phone HSPA connects with only about 1Mb down and 0.1Mb up speed tests
How do we make sure the phone is ready to work on AT&T LTE? AT&T rep says "check settings" ..... ummmmmmm she probably has an iPhone.
Does your current data plan actually support LTE? Have you had an LTE phone previously?
It usually only comes down to 2 things.
1) APN settings. You can verify by going to Settings (she was right, sort of), More (under Wireless & Networks), then Mobile Networks and APNs. You should be using one named AT&T LTE with an APN name of just "phone".
2) Make sure your data plan specifically says 4G LTE for Smartphones. If it doesn't say LTE, you need to get AT&T to change it.
I've used this app in the past on AOSP roms and such, and it works great.

That's a load of ****. Did you call or go to a store? I suggest going to a store. And if you can, make sure its a proper corporate store (and not a random reseller or something).
Mine works fine on T-Mobile LTE. As understand at&t and T-Mobile use the same AWS technology for LTE, just different spectrum.

Did you just swap your sim from one phone to another?
I am curious because on another forum LTE is not working.
Your phone has the LTE icon in the status bar?
thanks
Had the same issue yesterday when I received the phone. Spent an hour at the att store swapping Sim cards, changing imei numbers and trying different apns. Finally did a factory reset and it worked. We felt stupid. Not sure if thats the case with yours but give it a try.
EDIT
Also came across another thread with the same issue and another person said they had to change the IMEI on the account to a demo model. We also did the same with mine just before the reset. Here's the quoted text.
Solved. I went to the ATT store copied down the IMEI of a demo LTE phone. Called support, gave them the IMEI and that allowed them to add an LTE plan.

Thanks everybody for the replies.
We tried all sorts of APN settings, but there seems to be a larger issue here causing problems on many or all Google Edition S4 phones on AT&T's network, and that is the IMEI numbers of these Google Edition phones register with AT&T as not supporting LTE and therefore AT&T's data plan doesn't have LTE enabled for those devices. Many owners of Google Edition phones are having this issue, and are solving it by getting the IMEI number in the system to register as a demo with slightly different numbers. Not all people with Google Edition phones are having this issue, because they are just using a SIM card from a previous AT&T phone that was already properly registered with LTE capabilities.
Seems like AT&T just isn't ready for these new Google Edition phones, and the customer service reps are not usually tech. savvy enough to figure this out.
I might add that I myself am on the T-Mobile network (this post was for my friend on AT&T), and I generally get LTE speeds in excess of 30Mb down and 20Mb up here at work where I get 3 out of 4 bars of signal. In the AT&T store nearby, I got 2/4 bars signal and my speed tests still beat the pants off the demo model AT&T had, which got 3/4 bars signal. I say this because I am paying only $100/month for unlimited everything on TWO 4GLTE phones with T-Mobile, while my wife was paying $120/month for the same with AT&T for only ONE phone. The way AT&T garners exclusive deals on phone model variants that we should all be able to purchase and jacks up the prices of service to double that of the competitors, it's time for people to jump ship and force them to become more competitive.

I'm in the same boat. My previous phone (Galaxy Nexus) was not LTE-capable, so after getting a new SIM card for my new i9505g, it's only connecting at HSPA speed. Online chat with AT&T rep wasn't very fruitful. They are saying that the phone is showing up as "unrecognized device" and is causing the issue, and there's nothing they can do about that.
I am about to take a trip to an actual store to see if they have more knowledgeable staff there. Any tips or tricks (or super-secret handshakes) I should know about while talking to them?

Yeah put your sim in an LTE capable att device, have them add the imei and you'll get the LTE plan. You should be good after that. Othwerwise, have them add a dummy imei or one from a display phone. Good luck at the store as this will probably blow their mind.:good:

finally got LTE on AT&T
Hey all! I have been scouring the internet trying to get my LTE to work for the past two days I have used every APN I could find as well as downloaded ther notification toggle app to try to enable LTE.
at one point I did have a LTE data plan but I guess not anymore...
anyways I went on the my att.com account and I somehow got to two different technical support chat windows. The first time I gave him my real IMEI# from my I9505G and he couldn't add the LTE plan because it was not recognized as an ATT phone. I then got a friends ATT phone she is no longer using that has/had LTE on it and after telling me it didn't work, then finally on the third time using 'technical support' she didn't ask for any IMEI number at all just told me it worked.
(I think it was the live chat I found on the support section of my AT&T or something) I am only mentioning this because of the three times I was on live chat I got one texct survey this morning (I was on live chat last night 3x)
I gave all 1's out of 10 (worst possible) but mentioned the chat person was friendly and that I was just unhappy with AT&T.
AT&T then called me this afternoon about the survey and asked if I wanted them to fix the issue..... Was this a real question?
I said yes and now I have LTE working great using the default phone APN that was on the phone from the factory.
Hope this helps some ATT users!!!

Hey guys, to all who are wondering... T-Mobile stores do have some stock of the blue Nexus 6 32gb today, didn't have an issue getting mine. I do have an account with a single line on T-Mobile that I do not use, so I used that account and paid for device in full ($650). Out of the box, it works great on Verizon. Voice quality is much better than Droid Turbo and iPhone 6+. Data speeds are strong (75mbps down & 30up) on LTE.
All I had to do to activate on Verizon was either let device self activate with Verizon SIM that takes about 5 minutes, or by going into Settings - More - Cellular and toggling Global mode.
The reason I made this thread is incase somebody who is like me and got tired of waiting for Google and Moto to have stock and wanted to purchase it via T-Mobile and use on another carrier. My friend works in a retail store and he said that even if you do not have an account with them, you can still buy you at full cost.
Does that mean its sim unlock?

Why would you do that? I have it set to LTE and it seems to keep onto an LTE signal longer compared to "Global" mode, which I would use if I was traveling overseas and inserted a local SIM into my device.
But wouldn't it lose signal if you leave lte coverage and drop to 3g? Since Verizon is CDMA.

I have a t-mobile nexus 6 with a Verizon SIM. Hotspot works on Verizon if you switch the cellular mode to LTE. It didn't work for me when in global mode which was the default out if the box.
Does it do voice and data at the same time on verizon?

No. Same radio as iPhone 6. Unfortunately we lose this until VoLTE is a more adopted thing.

Just tested it and I cannot get simultaneous voice and data over a cellular connection on Verizon with the Nexus 6.
God I love you right now lol, I am sick of the play store **** so I am probably just going to buy mine on prepaid online tommorow and have it shipped.

Is anyone having this issue? I recently got a lg v20 sprint unlocked and the cellular signal drops constantly, it says "NO SERVICE every 3 seconds" then connects back to my mobile carrier.
anyone knows how to fix this? I know for sure it can't be a hardware problem because the phone is relatively new.

That's a side effect of using a sprint phone on a different network. It all determines the carrier and area. Never buy a sprint phone with full intentions of it fully working on a different network. For me AT&T would do it. T-Mobile wouldn't.

okay thanks for the response. hmmm not what should I do with the phone?
What is the SIM card that you have inserted in your phone? If it's gsm one, it will not work.
Sprint is a CDMA network and even if you unlock a device from them, you will have issues using it on other networks.

Dude, this is so incorrect I've been using a domestic Verizon note 5 for the past 6 months on the gsm network by only changing the apn for data. Pretty much every flagship carries all the bands to reduce manufacturing costs it's just a matter of accessing them through the software.

Sprint locks it down software wise. Verizon does Not. So Verizon variant most wouldn’t have an issue. Even though with older phones like the S5 and G4 (only ones I’ve tested Verizon wise) service was unreliable in fringe areas as they would all the time go in and out of service, but only in fringe areas.
It depends. A lot of sprint models miss bands that Several GSM carriers use weather it be WCDMA or LTE
But generally 99% of people trying to use a Sprint device on a GSM network are gonna have an issue. While Verizon it’s probably less than have that will have an issue if even that.

I have a Sprint unlocked V20 and this phone was DSU (Domestic SIM Unlock) by Sprint to work on domestic GSM carriers and I tried using this with an AT&T card and it worked fine. Have you gone into Network settings and set the prper APN settings for your phone? Also are the bands supported in your area?

Umm...just flash the US996 Unlocked version of the Weta Rom....if you can or course (Bootloader unlocked) I have a Sprint V20, works perfect on T-mobile, and pretty much any SIM. It's not terribly hard to do, just dig through these forums for help.
Hello, I like what I'm reading but after trying to find what you are referring to I am at a loss. Can you please explain how you did what you did to get your V20 operable? Please......

I'm guessing your refering to the sprint model? It's unreliable unless your using it on sprint. It's not worth it honestly unless you got the phone for free.

Yes, it's a Sprint phone. I had it unlocked and the signal comes on weak...then goes away. I've tried everything to get it to be stable but at a loss. I did pay for the phone so it's quite irritating.

I value your opinion on other things but your information here is incorrect. I have successfully used a Sprint LG V20 unlocked by Sprint here locally on GSM networks as well as outside the US. It could be an issue with APN settings or selecting a proper network.
The Sprint V20 has enough band support for domestic GSM bands and I have first hand experience with it. It could be that the particular V20 could be faulty?

It’s not the band support that is the issue. And it’s not just the V20. In fringe/lower coverage areas it’s a pain to maintain a stable connection. I’ve seen this with both the G5 and V20. It makes it unusable. It also occurs on older Verizon devices as well like the S5 and G4 as an example.
It’s mostly a software issue that causes it. APN is data related and wouldn’t cause signal issues.
When I had a sprint G5 for my 2nd line, I go into city limits where coverage was good would almost work perfectly. Go home in a fringe area might as well pop the sim In a flip phone lol.

That is true with Sprint coverage anywhere lol. (my local Walmart sells Boost mobile phones, even though we have ZERO sprint coverage) But in a fringe area on AT&T as an example the signal will drop in an out constantly. While any other phone will hold onto the signal perfectly fine and never drop and work perfect one 1-2 bars of signal.
I guess by fringe I mean a lower signal area not exactly fringe to the point of no service.
And there’s plenty of posts of Sprint G5 unlocked users that have the same problem.

Anyone else on Sprint with the S10?
Note 8, and S8+ works fine. My S10+ is getting 1x and when I'm on the road, it would come in and out all day long. Without WiFi the phone is almost useless.

No one has a fix?
I called the sprint store and the guy said lots of these new S10 series phones have connectivity issues.
He said their tech has a fix for it but it may not be effective. He said Samsung needs to release an update to fix it.

I used to believe in this statement.. But when I walk around with a phone from Verizon (business), Srint (Personal) and AT&T hotspot service, I realized this is very not true.
There are locations where each carrier is stronger than others. At one of my job site, Verizon and AT&T fail to connect at all constant roaming and drop calls while Sprint skips along like no body cares.
Point, additionally, as each carrier acquire and deploy new bands, they need to be built out so the newer devices that support the bands can utlize it relieving the crowded older bands.
HOWEVER, this stupid phone, with SignalCheck Pro installed, I can see the bands I'm on but the signal stregnth is horrible, like at the moment, i'm connected to band 41 but LTE is at -117dBm, that's almost like not having signal at all. Likewise when I'm connected to band 25 and 26.
I tried disabling all those bands and force it onto the lower frequency with hardly any success.

Can you disable or remove that signal check program? Not all sognal check programs are legit.
What country are you in?
That may be part of the problem.
I agree, carriers do have their own pros and cons.

I'm in the US
and yes the program can be uninstalled, but it was only installed because I need to troubleshoot this issue, so it's not the program that's causing the problem. It's just telling me what band I'm on and the signal.

It's not just you. There are multiple threads on Sprint's forums with users complaining. My phone constantly roams, the WiFi calling keeps timing out on location and though it says LTE most of the time data doesn't work. Lucky for me I keep a spare phone so I'll be switching back to my iPhone X until they resolve this but there's been no official word on any of this getting resolved so I'm not expecting a solution any time soon. I'm wondering if it was the update I installed that caused this because it seemed like day 1 the phone was ok. Maybe a solution is to use Odin and flash back to the original stock.

They had me reset network settings which I did and it didn't help. They're sending me a replacement phone... Once I get it I'll prevent the Samsung update and see if that helps. Idk I really wanted to like this phone.

I have the sprint version purchased from S
Spent an hour with samsung to no resolution. Took my verizon sim and dropped it on the S10 and the phone was getting good signal and speed then dropped for a couple minutes then back to good speeds. But as it's doing this, the phone started to get very warm. Sprint tech support doesn't know crap, just make me repeat their written process multiple times and the guys at the sprint stores are just salesman.
Since the verizon seems shows intermitten connections as well, i'm going to see if samsung can send me a replacement.
