Ok if I disable all location services in the settings tab underneath "location" will this completely turn off GPS and location??? I say this because I remember once I did this to save battery but in the taskbar above there was still a globe present meaning location services were on. (Im guessing) Would there be anything else to disable. I shutdown Google maps also.
the location services do not use gps, they use triangulation (uses the service towers to give a rough estimate where you are; plenty enough to figure out what city you're in).
So this has nothing to do with gps. GPS is always off unless an application is using it (aka a navigation program or google maps with "Use GPS" checked).
Are you using a custom task bar? I don't believe the stock one has a globe as one of the icons. If you are talking about a custom task bar, then you're probably talking bout the equivalent of the triangle in the stock task bar which is the 'roaming' icon. I'm pretty sure that icon is always on when using Tmobile in the USA with winmo and they just got rid of the icon (so it's on, but it's blank). Don't worry about that, it doesn't mean squat for tmobile USA (Tmobile pays other companies to let their customers use their signal).
Hope that helps
Ok thanks that makes sense because I am roaming......would turning off the location services have an effect on the battery also??

Maybe? but it would be minimal
Hi All,
somehow I managed to get google nav integrated with the car panel on the DHD, so you get to choose google nav or premium nav when choosing a destination. Have since hard reset, and can't find this option anymore... anyone know how to do this?
Thanks.
I think you need to go to Settings > Location > Integrate Google Navigation.

I've been trying to figure this out too. The solution above doesn't work for me, the HTC nav is used instead.
Anyone have a soulution?
Yep, sorry, got that wrong. I seem to remember the first time i went tot he car panel it asked me or something like that? Can't find an option to use Google Maps in the car panel.
Also, the Locations app or whatever it is called doesn't appear to accept postcodes?
Hi,
Found it as you said under settings -> location -> Integrate Google Navigation. Now I get the choice when I pick a footprint.
Shame the footprint section is pretty rubbish.
Thanks!
Close or keep open?
Cheers,

close car panel, its under main device settings off the app menu.
hey, this is semi related question,
while using HTC Locations I have noticed (disappointingly) you can not search using postcodes!
but you can in Google Maps so my ideal scenario would be to search with google maps and then navigate using HTC locations premium navigation.
unless any1 has found a work around? I thought maybe the integration would allow this however it appears to work in the opposite way.
Thank you.

I've started a separate thread on this Navigator Maps - No Postcode entry? as I feel it deserves it's own discussion.
This is a major fail for any navigation software....
Hi for postcode navigation
you can input postcode in locations search field and press search icon
only input data is regular search
input data and tap search icon is advanced search

Nope, nothing. Can you be more specific on how you are entering the data?
Edit - looking for PE22 0TU for example
OK, so if you enter a postcode (PE22 0TU) it won't find it. You then have to enter a partial postcode with no spacing (PE220), it won't find it.
But if you then press the blank result in the screen, not the search field, the bit that has an exclamation point followed by "Search for xxxx" it then comes up wiht a list of postcodes.
However, it is not the full list of postcodes and there are many it does not know about - PE22 0TU for one.
Absolute rubbish.

Leave open as follow up questions usually come around, in this and other topics.
Maybe you are a bit trigger happy on the lock button imo.

Have tried this, but had no luck.
It has also started saying i need to reinstall it (tried via settings>locations etc) but no luck, still getting the same problem
I'm rooted but otherwise on stock 4.2.2.
My battery life is pretty bad, so I keep Google Now disabled (also because I have absolutely no use for any of the cards). I don't know when it started, but recently, whenever I do a voice search for the weather, it defaults to Celsius (see attached picture). Celsius is on the left of the choices for weather, which is not how it used to be. Maybe the Google Now update a few weeks ago did this?
So I turned on Google Now, and disabled every single card. Lo and behold, without changing any settings in the weather card first, or doing anything else, the voice search now defaults to Fahrenheit, and puts it on the left in choice of units.
But this isn't a good solution for me, because if Google Now is enabled, when you swipe up from the software buttons on the bottom to bring up the search screen, it doesn't auto-focus on the search bar itself, so you have to touch the bar to bring up the keyboard. Very annoying.
Why, when Google Now is disabled, does a weather voice search default to Celsius now when it never used to do it? And why does it default to Fahrenheit when Google Now is enabled but all cards are disabled and no weather settings have been touched?
Is there any way to change the default to Fahrenheit without enabling Google Now?
Or, is there a way to make it so opening up the Google Now search area makes it autofocus on the search bar so the keyboard comes up right away?
....is this thing screwing with me?
If I do a voice search "What's the weather in Fahrenheit", it still shows the temperature in Celsius (attached picture).
But, it reads aloud the temperature in Fahrenheit! What the hell??
I really hope this isn't an unsolvable problem

Have you tried enabling Google Now, and clicking the small icon that looks like a "i" with a circle around it? When you click that, there will be an option for Weather Units appearing at the bottom of the weather card. Click on that, and change it to Fahrenheit. Then, when you ask "what's the weather" the response will be in Fahrenheit.

I'm having this exact same problem as described. Just discovered it tonight. Running a stock Nexus 4. It's a little thing but AWFULLY annoying.. Would love to get this fixed. I think it's a Google issue. Because I did click the little i and changed the settings. It doesn't stick after you turn off Google Now. :banghead:

Glad I'm not the only one.
This is nuts.
Tried clearing data.
Tried enabling Google Now, setting it as def F, then disabling, but still does C!
I have a stock Samsung Galaxy Nexus, running 4.2.1. Google Voice Search used to work, then it updated. Now I get weather inquiries returned in Celsius unless I enable and run Google Now. While Google Now is active the search returns temperature in Fahrenheit. I tried uninstalling the Google Serach update and when I did that there is no Google Voice Search at all, I get : "unable to connect to Google" , reinstalled the updated Google Voice search works again , but still returns temperatures in Celsius unless I enable Google Now. Has anyome found a fix for this?
bump...
Found out this is a known issue. The only way to fix it is to use Google Now. So. Now I use it.

Thanks. I'm just worried about the effect Google Now may have on battery life.
Yeah I understand. I finally just sucked it up and started using Google Now.. Haven't noticed a drastic difference.. Maybe you won't either. Just disable most the cards.

Using the 5/28 nightly (on Samsung GS2 i777), with Launcher3 and the new hotword detection enabled. The feature seems to work okay, but I've noticed that the location services indicator (the stylized push-pin) periodically flashes in the notification bar. Switching launchers or just disabling hotword detection prevents this, so it definitely seems related to the new feature. Is anybody else seeing this, and can anybody shed any light on what's going on here? Thanks.

Yes, but it seems something else is going on. I have no hotwords configured that invoke Google Search. Are you saying that the hotword detection feature is somehow leveraging Google search for command recognition? That seems a little overkill. Plus, even when I do invoke Google search, I don't get the flashing push-pin while it's waiting for my typing or talking (and, yes, when I start Google search, the flashing push-pin stops appearing until I exit Google search).
And the push-pin icon that I'm referring to apparently indicates that GPS is being used (as opposed to WiFi or network location based queries), because if I limit my location option to "Battery" or just turn it off, I don't get the icon anymore. I'm assuming that this means that the Google search application sometimes decides not to use precise location to facilitate queries. (I guess it doesn't need to know exactly where I am in order to "find pizza".)
I'm now on the 5/30 build for i777.
im coming from the nexus 6 (ive already installed google launcher---- ok google would turn on the phone--awesome while driving because i can start a song on spotify. ive dug through the settings any im not seeing it--i read the s6 didnt have it at first?? this really sucks if i cant get it to turn on! help!
What what I can tell with my S6, the only time it listens for "Ok Google" is when the screen is on or when the power is connected.
My Galaxy Alpha too.
I couldn't wake up my phone with "OK Google"
It's not the same thing as Google but you can use S Voice. Some like it, some don't. Just sayin'
That feature is not available on samsung. you need to use S voice, which doesn't really compare... it's unfortunate with all samsung phones =(
my note 4 will will start and listen, but it always says I have to unlock the device first. for security reasons I understand. I wonder if there is a voice recolonization app.. hummm..
could be a million dollar app.. someone want to help me make it?

A few have tried. Open mic is one. You need access to the low power part of the soc to make it worth while which non of us have. Other wise battery life gets destroyed. Samsung just needs to give us the option to use s voice or Google.

Dang...it won't turn on even if the phone is plugged in
Yeah, that's my only grip with this phone. Previously using a xiaomi Mi Note Pro amd it worked also on my mercedes w205. Pressing the voice button on the steering wheel no longer launch ok google.
well there is the option to take off screen lock.. haha
Not available on this phone. An alternative is to create a Google Voice shortcut on the lock screen like stock Android.
You can use tasker to reroute s voice to Google search. But its slow and unreliable.
Settings --> System (tab) --> Language and Input --> Google voice typing --> "OK Google" detection
This will allow you to simply say "OK Google" from any screen - including the lock screen.

of course it's available, i've always used it via the Google app or Nova launcher... Works fine on my S7 Edge with both (Google or Nova launcher). It turns the screen ON and I can even unlock the phone just by saying "Ok Google" (option has to be enabled in the Google app)
If you turn keep screen on and go to Google settings and tick OK Google from any screen including the lock screen it works

Will try if I can launch it from my car now.
Edit: also work from my car command button.
Press and hold home button.
Tap the "G"
Tap settings menu in top left corner
Tap settings
Tap voice
Set up voice recognition
Done.
It does work from all screens.

Just thought you might all like to know my Galaxy S7 Edge wakes up ONLY by saying "Hey Galaxy" or even just saying "Galaxy". It won't wake up by saying "OK Google"
Noticed it works only when screen is on or... If it's off and on a wireless charger or plugged in....
