I really sorry if there are another tutorials about this, but I wanna shared this easy method to deploy any xap you want, especially root and interop unlock tools.
NOTE: This tutorial is oriented to people with low-requeriment PCs like x86 SO or small tablets. I always recommend to install Visual Studio + SDK Windows Phone 8.1/Windows 10 Mobile if your PC can support them. You can skip download lite SDKs if you have VS installed.
NOTE 2: Make sure your PC has installed Net Framework 4.5.1. If not, download it here and install.
What do you need?
1. Windows Phone SDK 8.0 Lite: Download it Here.
2. Windows Phone SDK 8.1 Lite: Download it Here
3. WPV XAP Deployer Tool : Download it here
What should do you do?
1. Extract compressed files into each folder.
2. Open WP8 SDK Tools Lite Setup Av1.0 folder and start InstallWP8SDKToolsLite.bat file. Do not run as administrator.
3. When CMD dialog shows, press ENTER. All dialog confirmations press yes. When it finishs, press ENTER again.
4. Do the same in step 2 and 3 but with the WP8.1 SDK Tools Lite Setup Av1.00 folder and InstallWP81SDKToolsLite.bat file.
5. Now open WPV XAP Deployer 2.0 folder and run WPV XAP Deployer. Press Add Xap Files button. A dialog windows is shown; select XAPs you want to deploy. Press Deploy. Wait.

I did exactly all you said step by step, i have installed Windows Phone SDK 8.0 Lite and Windows Phone SDK 8.1 Lite. Then i have tried to sideload VcReg with WPV XAP Deployer Tool v2. But i have allways the same error message and WPV XAP Deployer Tool canot connect to my device.
I join a screenshot.
My Lumia 950 is on dev mode and when i connect it to my PC i have it in mass storage.
What i do wrong?
My PC x64 with Windows 10.
Thank you.
Hi. I've already downloaded all the things, Installed all the things. But all installed and worked properly except for the WPV XAP Deployer Tool. It doesn't run on my Windows 10 Anniversary Update x64. I see it on my Task Manager, it does run but ended after a few seconds. I tried all the compability settings but it still wont run. So I just used the built in Deployment tool on the SDK Lite, it does deployed but it doesn't run on my phone. It just crashes. I've deployed all the three apps, Wtweaker, Root Tool, and Custom PFD. But it all crashes upon running immediately. Please help. And yes I'm on Developer Mode but still this. And yes Interop Tools did installs, and I'm already on Interop Unlocked and Cap unlocked

@dxdy I tried this with the xapdeploy tool (8.0 and 8.1)

There has been a few times I've ran into issues with drivers not being compatible with Windows 7 x64 so I am going to show you a way to get them working by running a virtual machine with windows xp x32 installed.
#1. Here you can download a free Virtual machine.
http://hotfile.com/dl/45019228/154c711/VMware-player-3.1.0-261024.exe.html
here is the same download link from their website, which will require registration and verification.
https://www.vmware.com/tryvmware/?p=player&cmp=EMC-PlayerEvalActivation&li=license
#2. You will need to either have an ISO of Windows XP or an installation disk for this to work.
#3. Install VMWare Player and follow the instructions, it is very simple.
#4. Once your virtual machine is open, it should install VMWare tools. This will give you access to dragging and dropping, copying and pasting, and various other functions from your host computer to the virtual. You now should copy all necessary files and apllications you will need to complete whatever modification it is you are going to do.
#5. Install HTC Sync on the virtual machine. Link: http://member.america.htc.com/download/Driver/HTC EVO (Sprint)/HTC_Sync_2.0.40.exe
#6. You can easily switch your device from syncing to your host computer to your virtual by right clicking the icon that shows your phone. These icons are located on the bottom right corner of the virtual machine. Picture below.

One of the issues I have encountered so far is when trying to run CDMA Workshop on the virtual machine it will not open. It will give you the error "Sorry, this application cannot run under a virtual machine".
I have found a workaround for this.
Go to the folder on your host computer:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Professional
Open your Windows XP Professional.vmx in notepad. This is the VMware virtual machine configuration file. Go to the bottom of the file on a new line each add these lines of code
Code:
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"
disable_acceleration = "TRUE"
This will stop CDMA Workshop from thinking it's being run on a virtual machine and should work for other programs as well.
May I ask you what exactly you are having trouble with with W7x64? I was able to get ADB up and running, root my phone, and check my MSL with CDMA workshop within W7x64. Just had to find the right drivers online, but it didn't take too long.
Same here, Win7x64, no problems

it's a response from this thread. i, along with several other 64b win7 users cannot get it to work. go to the device mgr and click on the suspect, update driver and point to where the dl'ed drivers are and it does not recognize the drivers.
it seems to work fine on my the xp here at work. which drivers are you both using? i know it's not that technical. i can't develop for hack it any electronics but i can follow instructions and have hacked the psp, unlocked the tp2 and this phone among many, but i cannot understand how some were saying they've been successful and i'm in the same boat with many others who can't seem to get it to work on a 64b win7.

I'll pull my own quote from that thread:
"The 64 bit drivers will not be recognized or installed by the Windows 7 automatically. You must force the installation of the drivers by choosing the "Browse" option then "Let Me Pick" option then the "Have Disk" option."

My bad, I saw him talking about installing HTC Sync on the virtual XP.
For HTC Diag Drivers see my article in my sig. I have changed the Sprint banner with QPST with no problems using my diag drivers on Win7 x64. I also included 32 bit drivers.
I also outlined a guide on how to manually install them.
thanks for the guide!
Thanks, worked perfect. I was wondering why CDMA workshop wouldn't work right with VMware a few days ago.
Works fine for me on windows7 x64 as well... You just have to point windows to the exact .inf driver file and force it to install. No need to install an entire virtual machine..

The evo always worked fine for me on win7 x64 but its terribly inconsistent with recognizing android phones and installing drivers (moment and vogue were a nightmare) even pointing to them directly. For whatever reason solutions for some definitely dont work for everyone
For some reason Win7 64 is picky about how the drivers get installed. When I followed this guide everything worked fine.

After following the instructions and running CDMA WS 3.6 in VMWare (WinXP Pro) I'm being told my current license key for CDMA WS is locked to a different machine or machine configuration, which I guess isn't terribly surprising.
I am not going to buy another license... so is there any way to set up the VMWare host machine to make CDMA WS think it's running on the same machine to which it's been locked (which is my host machine)?
The only other thing that would solve my problem would be 64-bit diag drivers for a Treo Pro and a Palm Centro.

Introduction
This is an Open Beta of the Heimdall One-Click flashing utility.
I began the Heimdall One-Click project at the start of June. Heimdall One-Click is based on Heimdall by XDA Senior Member Benjamin Dobell. The goal is to reduce the number of problems we've seen in flashing packages. Once "Connected" is working on all platforms The beta test is complete.
There has already been some serious beta testing done to date. All that is left is cross-platform compatibility
Beta Test
You don't have to flash to test. Just verify "connected" appears.
1. Ensure you have the latest version of Java installed on your computer: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1
2. Download and run this: http://oneclick.adamoutler.com/files/Modem-KC1-One-Click.jar
3. Put your phone into Download mode, and connect to the computer. Verify you see "Connected" displayed. see image here:

4. reply to this post with the OS you use, result and any problems!
5. optionally click flash to upgrade to the KC1 modem.
Platforms requiring test
Linux Ubuntu/Debian 64
Linux Ubuntu/Debian 32
Windows 7 -on hold
Windows Vista -on hold
Windows XP -on hold
Mac OS-X Lion
Mac OS-X Snow Leopard
Mac OS-X Leopard
Please note: the final version will be roughly 10 megs, this beta contains alot of extra fat to be trimmed.
Beta7 31July2011 Fixed installation of VCC redistributable on each start of program for windows. No changes for Linux or Mac.
no known issues.
Beta6 31July2011 No fixes. Added live PIT View to show what has been flashed and keep an up-to-date log of what's going on in the background.
noted problem with Windows installation of Visual C++ on every run.
Beta5 31July2011 Revised windows installation. No longer installing heimdall.exe to program files. It is now created in temp folder on each start of the application. Visual C++ redistributable is installed when required. Drivers are installed on first click of "flash" button if connection to device is not possible. No changes for Linux or Mac.
Beta 4 30July2011 Fixed installation order for Windows so no reboot/restart is required. Added log into Details window. Each instance gets its own unique and randomized folder. Added logging for flash operations. Fixed unused imports. Fixed links for windows. Reduced memory usage. No changes for Linux or Mac.
Installation of drivers is still a problem on some systems. Use of "Program Files" is not acceptable as a "repository" for binaries, must have an uninstaller or create a binary instance installation.
Beta 3 29July2011 Fixed installer for Windows and Mac. No changes for Linux.
Windows installer is demonstrating problems with order of verifications... VCC redistributable should be installed before heimdall is verified. This leads to having to close the application out and retry. Windows not reporting heimdall installed after installation without reboot. All windows hyperlinks are inoperative.
Beta 2 29July2011: Initial Release.
problem with windows platform installer renders platform unusable. Problem with mac platform does not install newest version of Heimdall.

As was stated, this is a beta test. I'm not going to release a full package with kernel, factoryFS, Cache and bootloaders for a beta. However, this method makes it much simpler to flash a modem then any other method.
The simplest method for flashing a modem with CWM
1. download package with phone via barcode or transfer to /sdcard/Download
2. Start phone in recovery mode
3. Select install zip from SDCard
4. select Choose zip from sdcard
5. select "download" and then select "modem.zip"
6. scroll down to "yes" and select it
7. select reboot
One-Click:
1. connect phone in download mode
2. download/run this package
3. click flash.
Also, I'll be providing one-click packaging... simply select the Heimdall 1.3 tar.gz file and it will make a one-click out of it.
I've got the mac problems worked out. I'm currently working on windows. A beta 3 will be up shortly.

you are on another level when it comes to developing dude. keep up the good work.
Works fine on Ubuntu 32bit (I already have udev rules configured from a heimdall source build)
-.-;
@Adam - so.. does this thread mean your hijacking and near constant post in the official Heimdall thread will cool? You were making that thread a lil hard to keep up with. Granted seeing such an interested dev at work was pouring out tons of really neat info
@godfather - Just putting it up there as a preventive incase someone else might consider jumping on your question and going off all "I can flash most of that thru CWM, and have never had a problem with ODIN" crap. I've seen some ppl here post things like how Heimdall is bad cuz it was reverse engineered by some guy, and that they would rather stick with such a poorly written program just cuz it came from samsung... Cuz clearly we all love the stock cappy
Tried to run it under windows 7 64Bit. Says I must run as administrator. Although I am logged in as administrator, I atttempted to use the runas command from a command window. Looks like your command line just come back with a syntax error for me. Maybe I did something wrong since I've never used that command before. In any case...problematic to get it installed here.

I'm uploading a new version which corrects that problem now. I didn't realize the changes in 1.3 would ripple the installation across all the platforms.

Adam, this looks nice, I finally figured out how to install the drivers and find my device. I downloaded the Heimdall suite 1.3.0 and when I click on drivers, it sees the device. Question: if I install the drivers, will it effect the drivers I have intalled for Odin? Also, if I want to use the Heimdall suite for flashing custom ROMs does it work the same as Odin as far as the files and where to put them?

Yes. Heimdall uses the well known and understood Open-Source LibUSB drivers. Odin uses closed source proprietary drivers.

Everything seemed to work fine at first, showed device connected then after a few seconds it would disconnect and reconnect over and over and over. I tried to recreate the issue but could not. Android_*^ Easy Installer
Finally, an alternative installer. I am having difficulty in installing my android_x86. The installer won't detect my local hard drives even if the grub menu says "Install to Harddrive". I only get endless dots after the "Detecting Android_86". The installer only detects flash drives and SD cards and is willing to install the system onto the SD card. I tried various .iso images that are compatible with my machine and they all have the same story. Then I thought of tricking my PC. So I installed Android_x86 onto my SD card. Then using Gparted, I copied the partition (where I installed Android) onto my local harddrive. Afterwhich I edited my Ubuntu grub menu to be able to boot the partition. It worked! But not fully. I am again stuck with the "Detecting Android_x86..............(endless)". Same story, it will not detect my local harddrives even the very partition where the kernel and initrd files were succesfully loaded from.
I next experimented with VirtualBox. They all worked and detected the virtual hard disks just fine. Its just that the jellybean system runs slowly. However I am still keen on running Android alongside my other operating systems without virtual machines.
So I was very happy to have heard this easy installer. I just need help. when I first ran the Android Easy Installer, it went looking for grldr(grub4dos). So I downloaded and decompressed Grub4dos. I ran the installer again and it copied the necessary files to C:\. But this time, it came looking for "menu_VESA.lst". I looked everywhere including the internet but I do not know how to provide this file. How do I generate it? Please Help, Thanks.

OK, I don't know what's happened in your PC but this is the first time i see result like this.
I tested installer with (PC/Laptop/Netbook) with different Version of Windows but this is new to me.
I think you are using GRUB as bootloader or something like that.
FYI, The Installer packaged with All Files Required including GRUB.
menu_VESA.lst is grub config file, i created it for devices which use Intel HD, Nvidia or ATI Graphics Cards (you will not find this on the net )
menu_VESA.lst (Attached)
1. extract menu_VESA.zip
2. copy menu_VESA.lst to root of C:
3. Rename it to menu.lst
I hope this fixed your problem
waiting for your feedback
Thank you very much

Thank you for the file.
Yes I am using GRUB. Actually, Windows XP occupies my first partition. My other partitions are populated by Ubuntu, Pear 6, Zorin 6, and Fedora 17. (in that order) We all know that these operating systems use GRUB2 and I installed each operating system's own grub in their own respective partitions (as you will see why later). The next partition is DATA. After that dwells Oracle Solaris 11 which uses GRUB 0.79. Since Oracle uses the ZFS filesystem, I thought that its not a good idea to have Linux GRUB2 boot Solaris partition since it does not recognize ZFS. In fact these systems cannot find the ZFS partition. So I decided to install Oracle last. Oracle's GRUB 0.79 on the other hand can readily "see" the Windows partition but also cannot see the Linux operating systems. However I found a way to boot them all using Oracle's GRUB 0.79. I chainloaded all of them from my Solaris menu.lst. And since I installed each Linux's own GRUB2 in their local partition, GRUB 0.79 simply chainloads booting to the GRUB2 of whichever Linux OS I choose. As I mentioned in my previous post, from GRUB2 I found a way to boot Android_x86 (on the hard drive partition copied from an SD card partition) and it worked. However, Android's kernel won't continue loading after the kernel and initrd, since it does not detect any of my hard drives. (I think) It only continues loading if it detects a flash drive or an SD card inserted. (and android is installed on that removable disk)
I am yet to try reinstalling using the Easy Installer. I will update you. Thank you very much

Okay I tried over again. I followed your instructions and just to be safe, I also put a copy of menu_VESA.lst to the folder where the installer is located. (There is already a menu.lst in that folder from the Grub4dos package that I downloaded). Good news...it is no longer looking for menu_VESA.lst, so that satisfies it. Now however at the point where status says "Creating Android boot" an error window pops up: "System cannot find the file specified" and then halts installation. This time I do not know which file it is looking for. I have the iso image properly selected, the install destination has been selected (drive G:\ - a newly formatted 30GB NTFS partition) and User Data was set to 10GB. Now I do not know what file it is looking for. By the way, I downloaded and unzipped in the same directory of the Easy Installer a Grub4dos package since it was looking for these files. What do you think? Thanks for any help you could extend me.

That's True, the file is: bcdedit.exe which isn't included in Windows XP because it uses NTLDR not Windows Boot Manager.

Okay, so does this mean that the installer works only with Windows Boot Manager and not with NTLDR? The way I understand it, the installer also invokes grub4dos to boot android_x86. From what I know, boot.ini can be edited to accommodate alternate booting with grub4dos and this is compatible with NTLDR right? What my Oracle Solaris GRUB 0.79 does is that it chainloads to the Windows partition thereby transferring control to NTLDR. Then, NTLDR via boot.ini, can boot grub4dos which in turn could boot Android_x86. I think this could work.
However, I want to know if simply supplying the bcdedit.exe will continue the installation of Android_x86 and afterwards I can just manually edit grub4dos' menu.lst? Also, what other files (not included in your installer) should I have on hand to satisfy a complete install? Thanks for your reply.

I wasn't implement support of NTLDR, because i think a lot of people are using new Versions like Vista/7/8
just copying bcdedit.exe will not solve the problem, because bcdedit.exe is just boot config editor not the Boot Manager itself
Thank you
Hello...
I just set up a Windows Phone developer account and registered my phone (HTC 8x) as a developer unlocked phone.
I have build an app with PhoneGap build and I can download the .xap, but I have yet to figure out how to install it.
Using a QR Reader asks if I want to search the store for something to open the file.
I've seen tutorials on how to build a PhoneGap app within Visual Studio.
I haven't seen any means of installing it from PhoneGap Build, though.
Any ideas?
JJ
The SDK installs a tool called Application Deployment on your PC. Run that, connect your phone via USB, and use it to sideload the XAP.
Man, it would be great if you could install them directly from the PhoneGap site (like iOS and Android - I haven't tested Blackberry).
Having to do it from a computer that has, at least, a Core i5 CPU and Visual Studio is kind of jacked.
Also, I can only have 3 developer devices on my account.
Apple allows 99, I think.
Of course, Android doesn't even require to to register a device (just turn on the "install unapproved apps" feature.

You do not need SLAT (i5 CPU) to side load things.
That is for emulators only.
There is homebrew to do that on WP7. We'll just have to figure out a way on WP8. It's not very hard, once we can get the needed permissions.

Well, that's handy to know.
It would still be nice to not require Windows 8 and Visual Studio just to install an app.

Has anyone been able to do this on Windows 7 x64 machine ? I am sure I am just missing something...
I downloaded "Windows Phone Power Tools" after installing .NET 4.5 but, it just gives me an error of "Unable to install or run the applications. The application requires that assembly Microsoft.SmartDevice.Connectivity version 11.0.0.0 be installed in the Global Accembly Cashe (GAC) first." when I attempt to run it..
As most of us know, SDK 8.0 REQUIRES Windows 8, I would love to be able to install XAPs on Windows 7 so I don't have to reboot my PC to use my Windows 8 partition just to install a quick XAP time to time. I can't download or find where to download the full install to extract a few fles as said in the directions...
Any idea to get this installed ?
I didn't get it working with my Windows 7 workstation.
I have a Windows 8.1 laptop, so I just use it.
Being able to do it at work would be nice, though.

You can install the WP8 SDK on Windows 7...it works just fine. The secret that Microsoft doesn't want you to know is that the WP8 SDK can be installed on Server 2008 R2...Server 2008 R2 is based on Windows 7 x64. Therefore, it will work with no issues.

Hey All,
I have made a modified installer for the Windows Phone 8 SDK that will run on Windows 7 x64. I installed visual studio before I installed the SDK, but it shouldn't matter as this will install visual studio express for windows phone, if needed.
To install the SDK, perform the following:
1. Download the Windows Phone 8 SDK iso file. You can get it at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=257234&clcid=0x409
2. extract the contents of the ISO to the location of your choosing.
3. Download the modified "WPexpress_full.exe" that is attached to this post and use it to replace the one in the iso.
4. run setup as normal.
Everything will install and work.*
*I was getting an error when I launched the "Application Deployment" app. Once I updated Visual Studio 2012 to Update 3, it fixed it. EVERYTHING WORKS!!
Just wanted to add everything works 100%...I was able to recompile and deploy some xaps I wrote on my win 8 PC to my phone with no issues!

right now it will only work with Win7 x64 as the developer tools require it to function properly.
Yeah a 32 bit version would be nice. As running via VMware is a little too time consuming for me liking!
It did not work for me... Windows 7, 64-bit system.
I get an error after the installation has gone for a while.
(Screenshot attached).
Won't work for me.. it installs (after installing Visual Studio manually first), but the XAML Interface Builder crashes.
I've successfully installed the SDK on my Windows 7 x64 PC after installing and updating zune and .net framework 4.5. Every softwares are working with the visual studio update 3.
But I don't have succeed to register my ativ s phone because the Windows Phone Developer Registration program is unable to connect the phone. The screen is not locked, I don't have sd card, I try to change name, usb port, without firewall, with date+hour manual. The "Windows Phone IP over USB Transport" service is working and I've installed and uninstalled several times drivers of the phone. When I connected it to pc, windows installed two drivers: for the USB and for the phone but it failed to install a third one for Windows phone 8? Is it useful? not sure because I can discuss and navigate without problems with the windows phone 8 program for windows 7 without problems.
Any suggestions to make my ativ s recognized by the registration programm on windows 7?
I'm getting this error:
A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.
Any hints?
@Gampanat I would try installing Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 first.
The sequences I went through were:
1. install Visual Studio 2012.
2. Install the SDK.
3. The tools wouldn't work...(I forget what the error was)
4. Update Visual Studio 2012 to Update 3.
5. all tools worked great.
When I had to rebuild my Windows 7 box, I did the following:
1. Install Visual Studio 2012
2. Install Visual Studio 2012 Update 3.
3. Install the Windows Phone 8 SDK.
4. Everything "just worked" using this sequence.
@th0mas96
In your case, make sure Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 is installed.
@organite Weird...it worked fine for my HTC 8x on Windows 7 x64. I'd check your internet connection and make sure the tool can get out to the servers ok.
@linusplus make sure your date and time are correct on your system before installation. If it is, try setting the date on your system back to Sept 1, 2013, unplug/disable Internet, and try installing again in offline mode.

I was able to deploy apps. Took some fiddling to get the phone to *connect* to the PC, but that's been a problem on my Win8 machine too... *rolls eyes*.
I ve installed successfully on win7x64 but I get this error whenever I try to run a app
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: key
Are you trying to debug an app on the phone, or use the emulator? The last cannot work on Win7; the so-called emulator is actually an x86 virtual machine image running in Hyper-V, and Win7 can't run Hyper-V.
You also may need to reboot.
I`m trying to run the emulator
Hey, have you tried running it inside Windows Server 2008 or just Server 2008 R2's Hyper-V? I don't think there should be any driver differences on the VM side, but that would remove the SLAT issue.
