Nexus 4 stuck in boot animation - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a nexus4 that had a broken screen - I sent it off to have it fixed and when it came back it was stuck in the boot animation.
I thought they must have messed something up, so I cleared everything and reflashed the latest factory image with fastboot. Still stuck. Then I went back through the factory images, none worked until I got to the very first one: occam-jdq39 - 4.2.2. That booted fine and works fine. Then I tried doing the OTA update from 4.2.2 to 4.3 and it got stuck again! So back to fastboot, installed 4.2.2, ok again.
I also installed TWRP, did advance wipe, tried installing cyanogen, also gets stuck in the boot animation.
I have tried all this several times, tried leaving it booting for hours (it gets quite hot). I did manage to get a boot log using adb once of the hung boot of the OTA 4.3 update. It seemed to be in a loop, there are some errors in the log, eg:
D/ (19277): csd_client_init

Any ideas of what else I can try? I've not got much hope here as there have been a few similar threads with no solutions!

No ideas?

[CM 10.2] Google maps crashing on LG L5 E610

i have a problem with google maps crashing with cm-10.2-20131006-UNOFFICIAL-e610.zip (latest) and cm-10.2-20130928-UNOFFICIAL-e610.zip (previous) from PecanCM. The app displays a white screen, and then the whole cyanogenmod interface restarts (only the interface, not the whole device, no PIN is requested). This happens both with google maps from play store v7.2.0 and with older v6.14.3 (the older one manages to show some of the interface before crashing).
I can post logcat and dmesg from the device.
Is this a known problem? Are any workarounds known?
Sorry for the post here, but i'm a new user and can't post to the development forums (could someone forward the post there?)
edit:
according to logcat binder gets a segfault (binder uses some kernel memory for IPC - maybe this is a kernel bug?):

this seems to be solved in cm-10.2-20131014-UNOFFICIAL-e610.zip

IDENTIFIED: cause of Xposed bootloop on Z3+

I've identified the cause of bootloops on Z3+ with Xposed.
When looking at a logcat after the bootloop it can be seen that the cause is com.google.android.gms, crashing after some intervention by Xposed libart.so

An examination of the filesystem showed that com.google.android.gms (Google Play Services) installs an apk and an odex file in /data/data/com.google.android.gms/app_chimera/chimera-module-root/module-b4902ed544a9b2fc3415a9fb64fb048759fc2157. The long hashed folder name changes, as you can imagine with a name like "chimera".
Since I've previously had problems with un-odexed files and Xposed, I figured I try to manually de-odex it and then install xposed to see what happens. Previously, I'd been getting repeated boot loops no matter what I did.
What do you know, it worked. On first boot, I had a crash. When the device came up again it was stable and able to run Xposed and various modules. What did appear to have happened, however, is that after the first boot the hash filename had changed to a different hash and a new odex file and apk was in it's place.
With this knowledge in mind I did a more targeted search on Xposed and com.google.android.gms and come across this discussion on Github. Copy/pasting from the discussions

GMS correctly detects that the odex file is outdated and opens a DexClassLoader to recompile it. This finally ends up in ClassLinker::GenerateOatFile(), where one of the changes for Xposed finds the odex file and uses it for the --dex-file option instead of the APK. Normally, this works fine, but due to compiler-filter=interpret-only, the previous version of the odex has been optimized with more invoke-quick calls, which now fail to resolve with the new boot image.
So the odex-instead-of-APK mechanism has to be restricted to apply only for certain odex files.

There appear to be some commits to the Xposed repo to fix this problem, 18 days ago, which is post- the latest v74 of Xposed and so not available in any official release. I need to sync the latest AOSP 5.0.2 sources in order to build Xposed from the sources, so I'll get around to making an updated unofficial version of Xposed that hopefully should work on Z3+.
However in the meantime if you're impatient, you could use the temporary approach I used by manually deodexing the MapsModule.odex and replacing the apk/odex before installing. When I did this, I first did a reboot to TWRP, wiped cache and dalvik, then rebooted, ran Play Store. I verified that Play services worked ok, then rebooted to TWRP again and installed Xposed. I've attached the deodexed apk - when installing it don't forget to chmod it it 644.
On the first boot post installation of Xposed I got a crash. The second boot worked fine. Looking at the chimera module folder, I saw that the hashed folder name had changed and I speculate that the odex had been regenerated, I presume this time to one that was updated and so the Xposed crash didn't occur because of an attempted recompilation. Unfortunately I omitted to do a logcat on first boot and so I can't assert this for sure. I just know the workaround was successful, if a little clumsy...
Maybe you should try deodex or anther rom

unable to light up the screen, no key is responsible (including the slide key on the left side), red charging indicator light on even if i unplug it. the kernel was build on Nov, probably 9th (can't remember, but will check), official kernel (stated as [email protected] something), adb shell is responsible, can reboot with command

If you're already bootloader unlocked, flash TWRP and do a wipe via recovery. It still preserves all your content on the internal sdcard so the only thing you'll lose is app data.

Apps crashing in havoc os 2.9(athene)

Hey, I have flashed havoc os(v 2.9) on my athene device(moto g4+).A lot of apps(YouTube,Flipkart,Mx player....) have been crashing after using them for a minute or two. I tried flashing the stock rom and flashed havoc os but that did not solve the problem. Kindly provide a solution and thanks in advance. This is the error message:

Trouble compiling 8.2.0 kernel from source for ShieldTV 2017

I am trying to compile the 8.2.0 Kernel for my Shield TV 2017. I am hoping to adding the Wireguard kernel module.
I downloaded the source linked from https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-open-source following the instructions links here https://nv-tegra.nvidia.com/gitweb/...7;hb=1a508fa42d6ae55ee0fe62a3e07559a484794108
The source code checks out fine. I set up my cross compiler by setting these environment variables
Code:
ARCH=arm64
SUBARCH=arm64
CROSS_COMPILE=/absolute/path/shield-open-source/prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/aarch64/aarch64-linux-android-4.9/bin/aarch64-linux-android-
I removed the CONFIG_SYSTEM_TRUSTED_KEYS="signing_key.x509" from the tegra_android_defconfig file
I then went to ~/shield-open-source/kernel/kernel-4.9 and ran
Code:
make mrproper
make tegra_android_defconfig
make -j4
There were a few warnings that got flagged as errors and caused the build to failed. I modified the make files so the warnings wouldn't be flagged as errors (ex: ccflags-y += -Wno-error=maybe-uninitialized)
There is one more error with ~/shield-open-source/hardware/nvidia/platform/t210b01/ers/kernel-dts/ers-platforms/tegra210b01-ers-common.dtsi in that it can't find <tegra210b01-cpufreq.dtsi>. I changed this to include "darcy-platforms/tegra210b01-darcy-cpufreq.dtsi"
I also added Wireguard by following the kernel instructions from https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/wireguard-rom-integration-t3711635
At this point I am able build the Image.gz file. I took the boot.img from the recovery images that NVidia provides and used AndroidImageKitchen (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073775) to unpack the boot.img, swap out boot.img-Image.gz with the one Image.gz that I compiled and re-packed the boot.img I flashed this boot.img to my device using fastboot, and the device never boots.
I have some logs from the bootloop - here is the snipit that seems most relevant but I don't really know what I am looking for or how to determine what needs to change

Any pointers to what I am doing wrong, or how to further debug would be appreciated.
Also if there is already a kernel built with Wireguard support, a reference to that would be :good:
Hi, I've compiled kernel for Shield 2017 following your steps and I'm probably facing same issue. My boot hangs on Nvidia logo. I have a question - how you've obtained boot logs? ADB don't work from fastboot menu for me.
Hi, did you finally succeed in compiling a kernel for shield 2017 ?
