Rydeen HUs - Android Head-Units

Hi all.
I've been really excited about the idea of installing a fully Android HU in my Jeep and have been doing quite a bit of research. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Rydeen radios. In contrast to other Android HUs, this is an American company (although I don't know where production may be), and their products look really solid. Can anyone comment on their radios?
Thanks.

small screen
crappy specs (dual core, low res screen)
i wouldn't waste my time. some chinese android HUs are well supported by their sellers, such as carjoying. They can also be purchased on amazon with prime, so you still have purchase protection. I'd rather do that then buy one of these just b/c it's an american company.

Hmmm... Well, if the quality and support are there, there's nothing wrong with those Chinese brands, I guess. How is the quality of things like buttons and knobs on the Chinese radios? Any brand in particular that's recommended?
Thanks for the feedback.

The Rydeen HU DVA6 is made in China but it is actually a pretty nice unit.
The screen is a WVGA (800 x 480) 6.2" capacitive touchscreen display which is not bad for a car HU. I have one an like the hardware but would be much happier if we could get it on XDADev as a supported device so people could improve the software. The Cortex A9 DualCore 1GHz ARM Processor is slow but with some optimization, it could really do quite a bit. It would be nice if mikereidis would do a android auto build for it.

I think a lot of people in these forums and webs are forgetting something.

Lets be serious, now there are a lot of people who are going crazy over the iPhone 4..dude Apple releases iphones every year(and this year only being slightly more spec'd then my 6 month old nexus)....ANDROID HAS A WHOLE YEAR TO ADD EVEN MORE FEATURES..i say i feel sorry for apple..just my 2cents
..not to mention even gingerbread is going to be even bigger to me than when the smoke clear, and when even more android phones come out people will see the light...
I agree with you 100% but you got'a luv that video calling, c'mon who doesnt!? thats seriously the only ONE thing that would make me consider selling my Adrond and my hd2 for an iphone, but then I remeber its only on ATT, they haave the luxury of making their plans sooo expensive due to the demand on the iPhone, I dont like that!

It's only iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 and they both have to be on wifi?!
Sounds like crap to me
BTW if you really want video calling without restrictions... get the EVO 4g on sprint and you can call over 3g/4g.

Dude like the other person said its only over wifi for all that if you using your iphone over wifi at home might as well use a computer that's why they call it a "mobile" phone should be able to use that feature anywhere. And when skype release for android it will be amazing.
idk about u but im really getting this iphone 4 for sure....as my ipod/backup phone to my Sexy Nexy

Heh, funny thing is, I could do the same if I wanted to get locked into a contract honestly. At least, if I wanted a subsidized price.
But honestly, what's the point? I'd rather have everything all on one device.
dont get me wrong, its a cool feature to have video calling, but i honestly dont talk on the phone that much....plus its another way for crazy girlfriends to be nosy ...lmao not that i have that problem

As much as I hate apple, we can't ignore the hardware specs on iPhone 4. I do not see anyone trumping them anytime soon. Android is a good OS, but apple has very capable and quality hardware to go along with their OS and that's where they dominate.

First dual-core Snapdragon will be the MSM8260 (the HSPA part will likely lead the CDMA MSM8660). Aside from the modems, they're identical and clock in at 1.2GHz.
Just a bit of a guide:
MSM8x50: 1GHz single core (N1, Desire, Evo, Incredible, etc CPU). Only CPU in teh public now.
MSM8x50A: 1.3GHz single core. Die shrink (same CPU design, but literally shrunk via new technology reducing power consumption and heat output). Due late 2010
MSM8x60: 1.2GHz dual core. LTE support. 1080p decode. support for up to WXGA 1280 x 800 screen resolution. Due late 2010/Early 2011
MSM8x72: 1.5GHz dual core. Support for up to WSXGA screen resolution. (1440 x 9001080p encode/decode, full support for all Mobile TV solutions. MASSIVE overhaul of graphics unit, with it reportedly able to render 80M triangles/sec and 500M+ 3D pixels/sec. Reports have suggested a late 2010 launch, but given that the unit has yet to be mass produced for OEM testing, I don't expect it before 2011.
I wouldn't give up hope that either of the dual-core parts will show up in smartphones. They seem targeted at tablets and smartbooks. It will probably be end of 2011 before we see enough improvements in power consumption to see that kind of performance in a mobile handset.

Hmm.. I smell someone who doesn't know what HW means. What HW specs?
Maybe A4 with unknown frequency that was already trashed in its fastest 1GHz form by either overclocked Droid or Nexus + JIT (and will be blown to bits by any future CPU, at least from Qualcomm's line, seeing that currently in its 1GHz form in iPad it's already below the 1.3GHz Snapdragon), and current Samsung CPUs (in Samsung phones) having x3 more powerful graphics (and later Qualcomm CPUs improving the GPU as well)?
Or maybe 5MP camera with LED flash and 720p video recording and front-facing VGA one, that are available in Evo for some time now, and the already-released dual Snapdragon below supporting 1080p encode/decode?
Ah, you mean the display resolution.. in 1/2 year that'll be pushed even further.

What rumors? It's officially launched, both of them. Here's the dual core:

There are devices scheduled to appear with it until the end of the year (hoping that they'll actually make it on time). Can't say if there are any phones, though.
again, I had video calling since 2007 over 3g on my N80 and it was free on my 3 network. LoL and now Steve says "BOOM video calling" and all people going crazy about it. Go to Asia or Europe it´s just normal and something you rarely use.

Agree that Apples idea of video conferencing is far too limited. If they really wanted to do something right, they could have worked on a standard everyone could have shared, and enabled it regardless of how your are connected.

I think your smell-o-scope is broken. I know a certain professor who can help you
Processor clock speed is just one of the performance parameter of a CPU and on its own means nothing. I will, actually, go further and say, CPU specs alone means nothing to me. It's the total package that counts. I will buy a 2.2GHz thinkpad over 2.6Ghz inspiron laptop and even pay few hundred dollars more. Because I am paying for the whole thing, the chassis, better hard drive, etc... Inspiron cheaps out and thinkpad does not.
Let's go back to phones,
Show me one SINGLE phone that has these specs ( or even any phone that will be launched within a year)
1) Processor capable of doing intense graphics (OpenGL 2.0, HD video)
2) Display with 326 pixel density (Note: resolution alone means nothing. It's pixel density that costs more money)
3) IPS panel. To give you an idea, 24" TN panel costs about $200, IPS $400
4) Tri-axial accelerometer.
5) Triaxial gyroscope
6) 720p video capable camera
7) front facing camera
8) Gorilla class glass
9) Noise canceling mic
10) Pentaband 3G. I travel and i know the importance of it.
11) Wireless n card
these all together are hardware. not just CPU
Let me reiterate my hate of steve jobs and company. However, apple has not cheaped out on this phone and let's appreciate that. I have always said, HTC cheaps out very regularly. I do not think I need to present any proofs of that, search on XDA.
Having said all this, I like my freedom and I will stay with Android. But i will not wear a fanboy hat to defend HTC or google nor will I post rants against them. But please, lets appreciate what other companies are doing good. that too in a socialized manner.
Im gonna move to the iphone 4 inspite losing flash support but getting a high res display nearly like the first webbooks AND hd video recording WITH A SOUND and not this ****y noise/crap audio the nexus one is recording on videos...
whatever guys, i get both!
hahaha
I have to admit the iphone4 is pretty impressive...but its not enough for me to buy one.
I still love my nexus and flash.

Hmm, I see your point. But I think it's not that simple.
I can show you phones that have subset of the features: 1, 6, 7, 9, 11.
Be surprised, Nexus supports OpenGL 2.0 and HD video (if you mean 720p). So does Evo.
Evo supports 720p and has front facing camera.
I'm sure you know Nexus also has noise canceling mic and wireless N. Evo lacks the mic.
Display DPI, another axle in accelerometer, gyroscope and glass (?) aside - they're advanced. Might be important, might be as needless as noise cancelling mic (the only thing it's good for, it seems, is not allowing people to speak to the phone from a distance). Pentaband is a function of antennas, which might be supported on current HW (need to ask RF people, don't have enough knowledge to tell).
On the other hand, how do you compare lacking features? For example, being so excited about DPI, how do you compare smaller or larger screen sizes - what counts as an advantage? OLED vs IPS paned LCD - for what reason do manufacturers need to go back, Samsung already proved that OLED can be made to work great in direct sunlight? How do you compare lack of HDMI out, weak camera, lack of WiMAX/LTE support, lack of removable battery (for as simple a reason as being capable to execute forced shutdown, for example)?
I'm far from being a fanboy for any technology. It's just technology.
P.S. And even if I dig into specs of future phones that aren't rumored on the net yet, I wouldn't disclose them on the forum, don't you think?

PSA: CES is just around the corner

Where am I going with this one ?
Just wait 3 more weeks and many more devices shall be revealed. Ones with same/faster CPUs, same/comparable resolution (any pixels in excess of 1920x1200 are an overkill in this size and only make it work harder for no visual gain), same 2GB RAM, microSD expansion, keyboard docks, decent chargers. And no light bleed May be even with a WACOM stylus.
WACOM screens are different type of touchscreen and arent really compatible with the high resolution displays. If you want one of those just get the Note II 10.1 since that will probably be the only device with such a feature until the Note III

Wait even longer and there will be yet other devices with 4 gigs of RAM, 2 microSD slots, better screens and 8 core CPUs!!!
What is the point of your idiot post? Trolling? Some strange hatred of a decent, cheap tablet? Did Nexus10 kill your parents?
Even if CES brings many cool tablets, they likely won't go on sale until March at the earliest and probably longer. The Nexus 10 is a fine tablet with a great spec set. The screen is nice (no, 1920x1200 isn't enough for me, I have exceptional eyesight and prefer very high resolution) and the speed is good. Having unadulterated 4.2 with updates is nice too. The light bleed thing is blown WAY out of proportion. It is an issue on some, but I've found that the vast majority of people I've spoken with would never notice it or find it to be an issue. Mine has no problems with it. And I bet none of them will be $400 when released...
Basically, you can keep waiting for better and better devices or you can buy this one that is very good. If it suits your needs, I think you'll be happy with it. If you keep chasing specs, well then yes, you'll be sorry in a month when the new tech comes. And then again in another month when still newer stuff comes. And again and again.
Many of us have older tablets and an itch to upgrade. Original expectations were sky-high, but somewhat tempered by early feedback.
I have N10 in stock in stores just 2 miles away from where I live. Just might pull the trigger, but not before I see what's announced at CES.
Been an avid Android user - ordered my N1 the hour it was announced and never looked back. Use Android tablet daily, around 2 hours every day.
Aint no troll, just an educated and spoiled bourgeois consumer who likes to understand his options.
Have to agree with kpluiten. This post serves no purpose.

On subject of cars - I *waited* for VW to release diesel Passat. I now enjoy 50MPG hwy and laugh all the way to the bank. Anyone in the market for a new SUV outta be crazy not to wait a bit - in Jan there will be diesel Cherokees released in US market. V6 diesel Motori engine ... 40MPG hwy likely .
So sometimes it is worth to wait a little - builds one's character too, not a bad thing in this age of ppl wanting instant gratification

The best Android 8.0 head unit?

What is the best android 8.0 head unit?
My Xtron PX5 is going back due to a faulty wifi chip, so thought I'd check to see if there's anything better out there.
I only have experience with the Joying (Sofia 2gb) model and I like it. I'm considering upgrading to their new one. It isn't perfect... but it's good enough. Sometimes it crashes, there is bad English in the menus, and for some reason the password protect some settings which is very annoying... I wouldn't recommend it to someone who isn't comfortable figuring it out. That being said, it's really been a great upgrade for my vehicle!
Wonder what's wrong with the faulty Wifi chip? I've had nothing but superb Wifi performance so far on my Xtrons.
faults like this happen all the time.
Dont suck xtrons **** just yet, only recently have their products become better. Because their 5.1 and 6.0 units where crap.

Let's be honest, Xtrons, Eonon, Pumpkin, Joying, they're all pretty much of a muchness. They're all junk in some form of another. Just some junk is better than other junk. I had a good Erisin unit for many years, but then I've also had one or two bad ones.

Pumpkin vs Vanku Head Units (Amazon) - Identical specs, Vanku £50 less

Hi
On Amazon UK there are several head units that look identical and have identical specs PX6, 4GB ram, 64GB storage etc, they are branded 'Pumpkin' and 'Vanku'. I am thinking that the internals are identical, I have heard of Pumpkin, but the Vanku is currently £50 less with the voucher. Is there a difference? Does anyone have experience of Vanku?
Thanks
I just bought one. Finished installing it yesterday. The reason I bought the Vanku over the pumpkin is the Vanku uses an mtce mcu whereas the pumpkin uses something different. I love this headunit so far. I'm coming from an atoto and this thing has blown me away. The boot time is phenomenal from both cold and warm boot. I bought the 4/64 model. The only complaint I have is the bezel size is about 2mm bigger length and height. I had to cut my metra adapter panel to get it to fit. Another big shock is that so far the Bluetooth sound quality is great from what people have told me. I am gonna post more of my thoughts on this forum after using it a day or two. But right now this is hands down the best H.U. I have ever owned.

Any thoughts as to update availability for this, I note the Pumpkin has a reasonable website/forum, but for Vanku its a bit scant, and one single, unanswered post in their forum!
Also, what advantages does the mtce mcu give over the alternatives?
Thanks

No I don't know about updates for this and I also can't speak to the long term reliability. The reason I wanted an mtce is there is more 'aftermarket' support on xda forums. If it fails on me I seem to change out every couple of years anyway because these evolve so quickly anyway.

That's a reasonable point - I currently have an Ownice C200, that has served me well for over 5 years (!), and I have not had to seek out any updates for it, however it feels really slow these days, I think the PX6 would be a rocket ship by comparison! Mine is stuck on Android 4.4 so some Apps wont run on it these days. A 2-year upgrade cycle would make more sense esp given how cheap these things are.
Well the speed of this one will literally "blow you away". I was in awe even with a cold boot. To me this is the HU I have always wanted. I know I sound like a fan boy but I am super impressed so far. I played with in on the bench for a couple of days and finished installing it yesterday so I can't give a long term review but I am very happy. After researching quite a bit my first plan was to install a better heat sink. I pulled the top off and found it had a pretty robust heat sink from the factory so I just put it back together.
Like I said...it may crap out in 2 weeks but for now I am very impressed. I added the agama launcher and the navradio+ interface for the radio portion and it's almost exactly where I want it.
Oh...forgot to add....per the amazon answers from the seller...the pumpkin does NOT support any TPMS. That's another reason I went with the Vanku.
Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
I'm looking as well and looks identical. Even seller is the same. Vanku £229.99 with voucher, pumpkin £269.99
I think i'll wait a bit cos looks like pumpkin was £190 till September
I ordered this vanku and backup camera combo for $109
https://www.amazon.com/Vanku-Androi...X4M/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=vanku&sr=8-4
I installed it and so far it's been great. I've used the headunit reloaded emulated app to connect and it's working. I've also used the mirrorlink app easyconnect and it's worked fine also. The only problem I've experienced so far is that the AM radio is very weak.
Highly recommended! BTW, it's a FF-5000, I had determined that it's an AA0501B, which doesn't exist anywhere on the net, however their is a pumpkin identified is AA0502A (https://forum.autopumpkin.com/viewtopic.php?t=15869). They appear to be identical.

Hi,
How is the hiss? My Pumpklin version ( if I can say that) has a horrible hiss when unmuted regardless of the volume (same intensity fortunately so it is masked at higher volume). I've beefed up the ground wire however it is still there.
Thanks!

Is the Pixel C worth buying in 2021?

I found a seller on eBay that is selling New in Box Google Pixel C, 64GB edition, EU version with a US plug.
Is the Pixel worth buying in 2021 with Samsung having the S6 and even the S7 on sale? How does this tablet hold up in 2021?
And what is the difference between the EU and the US version? Will I be able to set the region to USA and is there any features or options that are different or missing from different regional laws regarding electronics and privacy?
If you can get it for a super deal then sure. But almost everything about the Samsung tablet hardware is vastly superior, it's really not close in 2021. I continue to use my Pixel C because I like the form factor, I love the keyboard (Samsung's keyboards legit suck, this is one contest the Pixel C actually wins), and it's already rooted for when I want to mess with that stuff, but the slow storage and minimal RAM really holds it back. The ancient CPU is less of a problem, but it is slow and you will notice if you compare to a modern high-end tablet.
You also cannot get HD Netflix anymore because the DRM keys were revoked. Which is a damn shame because I love that it has a 3.5mm jack for video watching.
I assume the region can be changed, but I honestly don't know.
Thanks locuturus, I held off on buying hardware that's long been obsoleted. Qualcomm and Samsung has not been asleep at the wheel, some of their latest flagship rivals my workhorse Intel laptop I'm typing this on!
Been looking at Smartphone for Snapdragon Insider phone lately, but since they skipped the microSD card, I may look at Sony Xperia 1 iii instead. Was looking at tablets originally, but with these phone coming close to 7-inch, they might as well be tablets!
