I've had this phone since Sunday. Bought at an EE store in the UK. I'm loving it. However....
1) It has crashed twice while receiving calls...just keeps ringing and phone frozen...not too worried about that...yet.
2) Twice it's booted up with the screen not taking any input whatsoever....again...not worried as a hard reboot sorts that.
The 2 above are just minor inconveniences...doesn't actually stop me from doing anything....I've taken enough calls to know...that crashing when receiving a call is going to be rare enough not to drive me mad.
The real problem I have, is that google Play movies and TV will not settle down and play without stuttering between 5 and 15fps. It's only google play movies and TV doing this. I can play back all content on the device fine with no problems.
It doesn't matter if I stream or download the content on google movies and tv - it will stutter.
Tried re-installing...tried clearing app data + cache...it will not sort itself out.
Does anyone else have the same problem?
Note to mods : My apologies...I should have posted this to Q&A.

Hi! Thanks. Just one bit of info that would be useful to me. Do you have this phone? Is your google movies playing back OK? If you have the phone, but you don't have any content on google play, would you do me a really good favour and download one of the free TV shows? Especially if you happen to be on EE!
Cheers!
Yeah I've got the phone, unlocked from cpw so no EE stuff and I've got no issues on the minion movie

Yes. I've worked out that it works WITHOUT storage encryption. The moment the phone is encrypted, the stuttering comes back.
Google won't fix it, saying that it's a performance issue. Sony have told me that they've booked it in as a bug, but I can't expect any fix anytime soon.
The problem I have is that Hulu crashes on me. All other video apps have no trouble.

Ok I just tried it. I couldn't get to open a Violet account, and I had to skip it. When I purchased a video it was fine(free one), and then tried to play it. It'll hang no matter which resolution I chose. Same thing happens to Hulu. Netflix, Vicki, Drama Fever, Crunchyroll, Google Play Movies, and Funimation works fine for me.

Seems it's a problem on all Z5 Premium phones. I really like Vudu because the streaming is basically blu-ray quality.

Hi, are you on MM yet? Have you tried Hulu & Vudu? Seems the Z5P isn't ooo friendly.
I sold my Z5P. I wasn't happy in the end with their support over movies I had purchased and couldn't even get them on my phone. 3 months later and still couldn't get them. I gave in and walked away.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if any of you use the app Audiogalaxy. It's a wonderful app for streaming your whole music collection from your computer to your phone. It works phenomenally (for the most part) and you are able to access as much of your music as you want without clogging up your sd card.
However, it appears that Audiogalaxy's server is down at this time. If anybody else out there uses this app, are you having issues too?
Also, they recently updated the app and I don't like the interface quite as much. They added some social networking features that are cool for some, but not my cup of tea. I was wondering if somebody still has the older (about 2 months ago) apk before the update.
EDIT: their servers are back online and all is good again. If you haven't given this app a try, it is well worth it. All 140 gigs of my music is now streamable from wherever I have a data connection. It does great on 3g.
Thanks all!
Cool bro ill check it out

1. Whats it like as a wireless hotspot, my Galaxy S2 is flaky at best with lots of dropouts?
2. Can it play avi files out of the box, and if not, whats playback like in Moboplayer, any sync issues?
3. What sort of games are currently available in the PS store?
4. Hows the camera?
5. Has anyone loaded Google Music and streamed their music?

This is just personal experience, but YMMV.
1. Wireless hotspot has worked great for me. I hook my iPad up to it when I'm at my grandparent's house and there's never any loss of connection. That's even on the awful Kentucky EDGE network, too.
2. I can't really help there because I never play those types of videos.
3. The PS store? If you mean the Playstation Pocket app, if you're in America (and possibly Canada), nothing. All you gots is Crash Bandicoot. FPSE is better for PS1 emulation, anyway, if that's what you're looking for. A lot of people get their games from Gameloft.
4. The camera is pretty decent. It's better than the camera on my old Desire HD that I sold. It would be better with different software (it's the AOSP app), so download Vignette or Camera 360 if you want better pictures. On this subject, the FFC looks black and white unless you're in good light.
5. I have and it worked fine on said slow network. The speaker is really loud, too.
adb shove iPad2post.apk to /forum/thread

2. The Stock Media Play can not play .avi straight out the box.....BUT......all you need to do is download a better media player and it will work straight out the box.
MoboPlayer is my recomendation to you. It plays everything i have thrown at it so far.
3. The actual Playstation games are not worth buying at all imo. Just download FPSE and get all your PS games on the emulator. (leglally you need to own the games before you download them, blah blah technical blah blah).
The Xperia Play games from Gameloft and a few other devs are quite decent quality. I love Gameloft games. Some people do not though. Remember this is a phone first and foremost. Not a dedicated games console.
4. Camera is OK. 5MP is decent. Not amazing, but clear enough to have them pictures full blown on your PC monitor without seeing many pixels.
The video recording is ok too. Not 720p, but not far off, it takes a keen eye to tell the difference.

2. Yes, Moboplayer works great. You'll have no issues playing standard def content, and in some cases 720p works too.
3. Very few, Crash bandicoot, midevil, and jet moto or something along those lines, haven't used it in a while. I used fpse and play the games I want to play (Final Fantasy VII in my case) I also use it for Super nintendo, nintendo, gameboy, and N64.
4. Fine for a cell camera. Not as good as the more camera oriented cyber-shot phones, but it holds it's own. Also the shoulder buttons make it easy to tak pictures compared to touch screen shutter.
As stated this phone has the loudest speakers out of any phones I've seen. It has two very nice cell phone speakers rather than the standard one, so everything from ring tones to games are plenty loud. They also have extremely good frequency response for cell phone speakers. Music, games, videos, everything sounds "fuller" on the Play compared to other phones.
Thanks all for the great answers.
Overall I just want to make sure I can load Google Music app despite being in the UK and that there aren't audio sync issues with avi files like some phones i've tried.

Reports are flooding in that Google has extended invites to its cloud-based music streaming service for residents of the UK. The buzz over Google Music has been building since it launched in the US following Google I/O.
In order to enjoy the music-streaming goodness that is Google Music Beta , you’ll need a Nexus S running Android 2.3.4. Users who fit the bill will be greeted with a self-install notification following the completion of the sign up on Google’s website.

Anyone having the problem with Netflix A/V being out of sync? Any suggestions on fixes?

I installed Netflix from the Amazon Appstore and briefly watched about 15 minutes of a movie. Worked well for me so far. Did the a/v out of sync take a long time to be noticeable, or was it immediately?
I've been having problems with netflix as well. I set a static ip and set the dns to gooogles servers and it seems to be working a little better. The sound can be just slightly off at times, but before it was skipping a great bit.

Have you tried playing the video on another device like your PC? Sometimes it's the content that's the problem and not the device.
been hearing about this for a few days now. I really would like to get my hands on a Kindle Fire (more so after the root has been announced) so my question now is that this "a/v out of sync" issue, is it just for the version of netflix on the amazon app store (i know that one's different from the phone version, its apparently "optimized for tablets") or does it apply to a netflix apk sideloaded (from perhaps a HTC Sensation?)
Hulu+ is PERFECT
Hulu+ is perfect, if you're into TV. No glitching, sync problems, or anything.
I ended up removing the app, rebooting, installing again and now netflix seems much better than before.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I haven't noticed this yet on the Fire but with the PS3 app it happens quite often.
I noticed this as well, but it seemed to clear up afetr a reboot. I've heard that other devices have started seeing issues only after the netflix update that came out last week. So not sure where the problem lies...
I've been trying out the modded version of netflix found over a PPCGeeks. I've so found found the "Isystems-Netflix1.4.1-XH264-Tablet-Wizard-RR.apk" file to run the best on the Fire. The stream quality is improved, rotation is enabled, and audio is in sync.
The last version of youtube enables the preloading (caching) of all the videos you add in the watch later playlist. But it needs to be online in order to play them, for some crappy reason. Is there a way to bypass that and play all the videos in "watch later" while offline?
Some info on this feature and the crap reason.
YouTube, careful to draw a distinction between this and total downloading of its vids (which breaks its terms of service), is careful to point out that you’ll still need to be online for the first second when you press play.

Just use a YouTube down loader. I know its one extra step but if its worth the extra step then do it.
Use PVSTAR+ as player - it searches and shows youtube vids, and stores them in a cache. You can also copy them out of the cache and they are normal mp4 files. (it also has a mp3 mode, which only downloads the music part it seems). The app also runs in background and with screen off. Completely replaced youtube app with it.
(it also searches on dailymotion and i think you can add other sites)

When I first got my phone about a week ago, I let it do the google play updates after doing the initial phone setup. One of the updates was youtube. I was having problems with stutters on playback every few seconds on every video I watched. I went into settings-application manager and uninstalled the updates back to the original factory installed version. The stutters have now went away and all the videos have played smoothly.
