When playing youtube videos in 1440p for example on MKBHD Channel Latest Video of Xperia Z5 Premium the framerate drops and then the video freezes at a frame and the audio continues going.
Tried deleting and disabling all youtube based modules (Had Youtube Background Playback and Youtube Adaway Module) and rebooted and that didn't do anything.
Any ideas what could be causing this ?
Only happens when playing in 1440p
It is very easily replicated and happens everytime.
I have the same issue on marshmallow - non rooted - just updated Moto X Pure 2015
It's been reported a number of times here and on the Moto forums that their techs monitor, that some do play correctly but many don't. So far I'm not aware of anyone running MM on MXPE that doesn't have this issue, and they all played fine on LP. There's at least one report they all play correctly on a Nexus 6 with MM, so I believe it's from something Motorola did to the firmware.
@glenroebuck - OT, but thought I was on the TDI forums for a sec! I have a 2011 JSW TDI so am waiting to hear about fixes/buybacks/etc when VW decides to let us unwitting polluters know.
Any chance you are on T-Mobile?

If you're asking me - no, AT&T but I'm usually watching videos on wifi.
me too att - watching videos on wifi - it will default to 1440p and freeze, if I downgrade to 1080p it will play fine.
I have a similar issue streaming over WiFi. Strangely, my friend who has a Droid Turbo 2 doesn't have the same issue.
Just tried 4 videos, 3 played fine on 6.0.1 stock. One did stop but it did it on 1080p as well.
Just move to the MXPE from a Nexus 6 ..I can confirm I did have this problem on the Nexus 6 6.0.1 it was only happening on 1440p res vids and easy to replicate and after moving to the MXPE I haven't seen it happen yet..I'm on tmo BTW aand watch all videos on Wi-Fi

How about this one? It hasn't worked for anyone since 6.0 afaik, and couldn't find any reports of this issue on Nexus 6 or 6p forums.
COSTA RICA IN 4K 60fps (ULTRA HD)
Is a completely stock 6.0.1 for US available yet?
Edit: @paul_viado what are you running on MXPE? 5.1.1 or 6.0? Try above video and make sure it's on 1440 (can take a couple tries).

I'm on the latest 6.0 Feb security update on the MXPE all stock out the box no root..
You're right the video above causes the freeze but all other videos I watch 1440p works fine.
I believe 6.0 with the Feb security patch is the latest software update for the MXPE in the States

Just wondered because lafester posted they're using stock 6.0.1 but maybe it's non-US, but still should tell us if it might be fixed now. Yeah, thought that would freeze if you're on 6.0, but it worked perfectly on 5.1.1. Some 1440p videos do play fine though, maybe half or more. You had this same problem on your Nexus 6 with 6.0.1? That's the first report on other than MXPE that I'm aware of.

That one did stop and played fine on 1080p.

Yeah, saw your posts there so figured it was that version. Doesn't seem that 6.0.1 has fixed this, though.
I wish others on 1440p phones would try that video to see if it's just on MXPE (ie from Motorola tweaking Google's vanilla firmware) or a wider issue in 6.x itself, about which I've read there were some significant changes to the graphics sub-system.
Just tried mkbhd's latest video of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and it played fine at 1440p. A couple weeks ago I did try another video and it froze but I have updated to the latest Truepure rom and YouTube seems to be working fine now.

Okay, I spoke to soon. Video ended up stuttering and freezing. Although, I played two trailers back to back in 1440p and didn't have a problem so I'm not sure what the issue is.
Yeah, that Samsung edge review freezes for me at 1440p. You'll find others that do play correctly but it's hit or miss. The Costa Rica 4K video linked in this thread always freezes on MXPE w/6.x, but these all played fine in Lollipop.

Hello all, recently, since the T-mobile Samsung galaxy s6 edge update, my phone is not able to play video correctly. To the best of my knowledge it did not occur before the update, but i cannot assure you that. So what happens is every time i play a video, whether its Instagram, Snapchat, Vine, or my personal videos, it starts to bug out. Whenever i play a video, 4-5 seconds after the start of the video, there is, what i can best describe as iPhone slow motion effect. The start of the video there is no defect, but once a few seconds pass, the video lags heavily. Although the video slows down, the audio never seems to falter. This has happened constantly since i noticed it.

Wow, this really sucks. It's one of my favorite features. There are several videos where the slow motion is really choppy and skips a lot, see here:
https://youtu.be/Ozmq051Bqo4
https://youtu.be/-ejKG4hNr2Y
https://youtu.be/XdmVAfQWr38
And then we have a perfectly smooth and what looks like higher res slow motion video from a user here who owns the exynos version:
https://youtu.be/g5aUNY3YnGk
What in the world is going on?
I really hope this is not staying this way. It is annoying. Saturday i will get my Exynos, i will test and let you know the results.

This is from my T-Mobile S7 (Snapdragon). I've noticed AF tracking is not working properly if not at all when capturing Slo-Mo. A quick tap of the object on your screen will re-focus.
Side note: YouTube really destroys the quality of the videos at 720p.
I'm on stock rooted 20s for x727. Some of my images are coming out with two shades of brightness post-processing. I've attached 2 pictures taken one after the other.
Anyone else having this issue? Stock camera.
I noticed when I download Youtube video (Nba game hightlight 10 minutes) as mp4 format the quality is bad I am on T.A.R.S rom by Steve. Speed download use 4G also very slow like 3-5 minutes to download 50Mg mp4 video. I use www.vidto3gp.com to convert Youtube to mp4 and download.
I also got LG G4 which did a better job for the same task I mentioned, quality of mp4 video is a lot better and download it in less than 1 minute. I will try to swap sim for 4G speed to see if it make any difference.

Cgeck the modem as some only have Chinese bands.
Are your apn settings set exactly?
Take in matter that not all regions support lte and just use 4g
Vidto3gp could be at fault maybe since they don't have the most stable servers.
Part 2 of your problem. Try using a different gallery app or reflash the current rom

Hi, thanks for the help I think it's maybe ok. For youtube video if I downlad 720p the quality is good, before I download 480p.
For 4G issue it might just a signal issue, I try today on different location it was speedy enough 100mb in less than 1 minutes so that would be fine. So I guess we can live with some minor issues.

I just noticed the same problem on the last picture I took. Maybe it's software problem related to 20s.
I just started using camera MX app instead of the stock camera.
I'm having the same issue with 5.8.20s on the X727. Just noticed it today. I'm pretty annoyed since it happened on a couple photos that would have turned out great. This is a shame because the point of the camera is to capture the "moments".

Hi guys!
UPDATE N°2: Ok, so.... Lenovo knew this at least 3 months before launching and did nothing about it... How we know it? this...
GitHub commit on MotorolaMobilityLLC
Sad to knew that knowing that this phone have a design issue, they did nothing about it.
UPDATE: we have recieved a final answer by Lenovo. "Suck it up". Read it by yourselves.
MattForumsMgr answer on Lenovo Forums.
So sorry for all of us that Lenovo have so useless developers that don't know how to turn off an infrared light while the camera or even the display is turned ON. SHAME on Lenovo for this. Help me make this public. This cannot be an appropiate answer.
END OF THE UPDATE.
So, i noticed this since day one but i thougth that i was the only one and that probably i had a deficient unit, but now i have confirmed with at least 4 more moto G5 Plus owners (all of the from Latin America) that they are having this issue too.
I'll post a few videos so you can see clearly what am i talking about.
So, as you can see, there is a red tinted corner on the video. This happens only when your record 1080p 60 fps videos.
Here you can see a video that i recorded on a retail store with the same phone (In spanish relating this to a friend of mine that have a recognized tech blog in Chile. Video N° 1 is my video and N° 2 is recorded by the exhibition device. [NOTE: it is not a dummy phone. In fact, i even sent the video from that g5 plus to mine using android beam (NFC and bluetooth)].
Now, a video recorded by a reviewer from Mexico that also noticed this. (Min 11:50)
And for the last, a video recorded by another friend (sent by telegram, so it is compressed)
So guys, i need you to tell me if this is happening on your variants or not. Please report saying where are you from, if you have or not this issue and variant that you have.
I'm from Chile, I have this issue and my variant is single sim XT1680, 2gb/32gb.
THanks you so much guys.
P.S. I added a poll so it would be easier to quantify the people affected by this.
Tomorrow my dad is getting this phone too, so i'll probably check with him and upload another video!
Same issue over here... Bought in Mexico, 2 GB version... TBH it seems something related to software, maybe an OTA would fix it

No issues here...
Using Indian 4GB variant XT1686
Edit: It is there in low lightning or dark situations.
Thanks for the reports... Till now it looks like is only happening on latam variants...

UPDATE: so i have just recieved a report from a guy from india saying that he is facing this issue.... 4gb variant too... keep reporting guys! the more that we know, the best that we can do to reach lenovo to fix this
UPDATE 2: another guy from lenovo forums is saying that he have this in india! @kaustubh_lipare can you check again? remember that it is on dark/low light conditions and recording on 1080p 60 fps.
Same issue here..

OK, so, in the Lenovo forum, MattForumsMgr (from the motorola staff) said that they will look onto this...
Also, a friend of mine have contacted Moto Chile, and they said that they have escalated the issue to Moto Mexico who are the people in charge in all LATAM.
How do I record video at 60 fps? I want to test it on my phone.

Swipe from left edge of screen to middle when in Camera App. It will give you the camera settings menu. In the Video section, select Video size(rear). You should see an option for Full HD 1080p (60fps). Select it and you are good to go.
The problem only occurs when you are trying to record video in the dark or even when there is a black object close to the edge of the image(in my case upper-left or lower-right).
On a broader note, I see a similar but lighter red-tint when I try to use professional mode camera at 3200 ISO setting in dark or with black objects. So, am guessing this has something to do with the image processing algorithms.
Same issue here in photos. When u try too use manual mode with high ISO say 1600 or 3200 this red tinted corners are appearing.. Attached are the sample photos...
It is caused by the infrared sensors. This can easily be patched by Moto. They just have to deactivate the sensors when the screen is on or when the cam is on. Let just wait
I am assuming you meant this issue is due to the camera sensor capturing the bursts from the infra-red LEDs used for proximity sensing.
This has nothing to do with those since when Camera is in use these LEDs are turned off. You can notice it if you see the camera assembly through another camera before and after launchinng the Camera APP.

Yes.. I think you are right. In manual mode keep the ISO at 3200 and take the camera far near to any object. You can see the alternate change at left and right side of screen. I think we just have to wait for the fix. Hope Lenovo will patch this soon.
Hi there all,
I received my 6T 8/256 last week. I'm still in official ver 0.7. I've checked that all my videos recorded in 4k 60fps are laggy. They skip frames and do not reproduce accordingly. I thought it may be a buffer problem in the phone itself, and moved them to the computer. They are laggy per se, they're recorded with this failures. Let's say they lag every 2 o 3 seconds (only video, not audio), giving the impression of a low quality, under resources smartphone.
Can you double check this? Can anybody confirm this problem is fixed in next updates? Otherwise I will have to switch to 30fps, which is a real pity in the quality standard.
Thx guys.

Does not lag on mine, but I have McLaren edition
Me too
Lags on my OP6 too. Even the 4k30 results are choppy. It's been like this for months now, videos come out like crap all the time.
Video is running fine on my OP6T at 4K60. I also have the 8/256 variant. I am currently on OB17. Maybe update your phone to the latest OOS as I know they made a few camera updates between what you're running and the latest OOS (9.0.17). Or you could download a newer APK for the camera from another source. I believe the newer camera versions from the 7/7 Pro work on the 6T but have issues in some modes (Pro mode, I believe}.

I use the GCam Tool from the Play Store. I use it mainly to stop the multiple subfolders created when taking portrait photos but it can also be used to flip/mirror the front camera images if the camera app you use doesn't offer the option (some combinations of GCam and Custom ROMs need to have the flip option enabled to correct the images).

I am quite certain GCam doesn't support 4K60 on the OP6T, only 4K30 max. I may be wrong, so apologies if I am.

Hmm...I set the settings and it showed the 60fps icon in the corner so I assumed it was recording at that frame rate.
These are just what I have set with the config file for the beta. Seems to record and playback fine.
