Link2SD? - Galaxy Grand Prime Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings, y'all.
I'm trying to setup Link2SD on my phone but for some reason it won't work. I'm using a 32 GB micro SD card, which has only 5 GB dedicated for the second partition. Main is Fat32, secondary is ext4, and both are primary. Yet, link2SD will always throw an I/O error at me. Is there a clear error in here, or would I need to mention other things too?

I got Link2SD to work on my Grand Prime SM-S920L variant by using an init.d emulator as the stock kernel has no init.d support.

I actually tried to do this via term-init, but there was no dice. Even after following all the advice in the FAQ, I couldn't ever verify that the support had been enabled (Even if uni-init told me it worked).
Just in case, my model is SH-G530H and am running Android version 4.4.4.

[script][old][already build inCFROOT]Gingerbread Darktremor a2sd for sgace

Thanks To ysgace and all dev.
this is not my job, just made easy to share.
So it's taken a lot of reading from a number of different places but I figured out how to modify the boot.img in the Odin CODE tarball in order to flash with an edited init.rc. I realize that with this power I could have simply built a2sd into the boot.img but one step at a time. So for now, if you want a2sd for Gingerbread (S5830XXKPE) then files and instructions can be downloaded using

so do you have a2sd by Darktremor?
Whenever i try to create an ext2 partition in my sdcard, it is not being mount and i get a warning saying that the card should be formatted. if i give yes, it gets formatted as one single partition of FAT32.. Please help
I used MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition in windows for partitioning
for partitioning use gparted
Before upgraded to gingerbread ROM, it was 2.2.1 where there is a app name "link2sd" free from market, which it mount ext2 partition of sdcard and move per apps apk file to sdcard, of ext2 partition, this is more flexible then Darktremor.
Where with Darktremor, the external sdcard will never able to hot remove from phone and plug it back. Which make external sdcard pointless. remove sdcard card will kill / reboot the phone, given without sdcard, phone can not start up. Also slow performance issues.
Where link2sd allow you select large apk only link to external sdcard, when unplug sdcard the phone still works without reboot / halt.

Sadly it doesn't work on Gingerbread. It's a pity, this app is a must to whom owns an ACE.

Great job!
It is possible to do the same thing with 2.3.4 KPH?
I found so many noobs here in ace forum and so little developers and I want to help you. I come from optimus one forum and i like to help.
You need a custom recovery to create an ext partition and to make darktremor a2sd to worked. Amonra or clockworkmod recovery is the best. Then create an ext partition whether ext2, 3 or 4 then flash dta2sd from the darktremor a2sd thread here in xda(search it). The latest ver is 2753 beta 04.
Remember, without ext partition the dta2sd will not worked.
To check if your a2sd is working, download terminal emulator, press su then enter then type a2sd check.
Or download titanium backup agd check if it says a2sd space=???
Or the best way to check is by a2sdgui app, it is a official app from the dta2sd itself. If it says apps are on sd, then your a2sd worked. And if you guys still reducing memory even after moving apps to sd via a2sd gui app, its time to put the dalvik cache to your sdcard.
Fuh, thats a lot of writing on my phone. I love to help because i will buy galaxy gio soon.
Or maybe you guys should take a look at optimus one forum and learn how to make a custom kernel and rom there. Theres a very good thread on guiding how to build a custom rom and kerne. Im pretty surprise so many noobs here. Like i said i really like to help to improve this community

[Q] Install apps on external storage, CM9

I am running Cyanogenmod 9.1 on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, WiFi IR version. Does anyone definitively know how to run your apps from the external SD card? I have tried numerous workarounds but all have failed to produce any results, I have no idea where the problem even resides. Thanks.
I've the same problem with directory bind, its an issue with the multi user on the ROMs. The emulated SD card messes everything up I think

Have you tried Link2SD?
I think you might be right, that seems to be the error I get when I try to use App 2 SD.
I went and got Link 2 SD, followed all the instructions (partitioned my external SD into 2 primary FAT32 parts) and it told me I was able to move apps, but I get error messages whenever I try [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE] which I don't really understand, I have plenty of space.

Your second partition really needs to be ext3 or ext4. Primary partition fat32
Root2SD says in its instructions FAT32 should work, which is why I tried that first. When I did EXT3 and EXT4 it told me it couldn't mount it as it isn't compatible with my device :/ I even tried to manually mount it in Clockworkmod but even after that I got the same error messages.

What are you using to partition your sdcard with? Hopefully not CWM. If you are, try TWRP instread. There is also a Windows tool "Mini Partition" I think that is also recommended for that task.
Actually I was just using Mini Partition, I saw it recommended somewhere else.

Link2sd / foldermount not working

Morning all,
I'm having the usual issues with internal space on my (rooted) s5360. I have tried:
Foldermount - won't work because /data/data isn't seen.as being on the internal SD card?!?
Link2sd - works on a fat/fat sd card only, then after reboot says "invalid argument" and won't mount. I've used Easus, Minitool and CWM to partition, but to no avail.
Directorybind - doesn't see any folders in /data
Are there any other ways to move / symlink monster apps like games and facebook to my SD?
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda app-developers app
With link2sd you need a kernel that can support ext4 partitions
steps to follow if on stock based rom
flash hells fusion #50 kernel
copy contents of sd card to pc
goto recovery mode on phone
in cwm partition sd card with at least 1024mb ext partition
swap is not required
restart phone
open link2sd
create mount script as ext4
Restart
Open link2sd & check 2nd partition now shows
copy everything back to sd card
restart
Having had to restore with Odin after messing about with kernels / roms (I need to run stock rom to avoid phone nework cutoff) I'm not keen on this approach.
I can't see why l2sd would work after a reboot with ext4 when it won't with fat.
Is there no other app that can be used as an alternative?
What about manually creating symlinks?

Because it needs kernel support
you won't have any problems running stock rom with hells fusion #50 kernel as long as you are not using DDMD1 baseband as that requires a different ramdisk
Install REPENCIES ROM PLUS REPENCIES KERNAL it has all support u need.
U cank also use darktremer app2sd . Its much better then link2sd & can transfer delvink also to sd.
Seach xda you will find everything
Thank you for helping me

hey,
even if your phone is rooted, you can't simply fool the droids memory architecture just from a Third Party Application..
you need INT2EXT script with a constantly running application which watches the memory.(eg link2sd)
and for all that u first need to partion your sdcard to the device(grand2) supported partion i.e ext2/ext3/ext4.
for partioning i recommend PartionWizard windows application.
else The custom CWM is highly recommended (which unfortunately isnt available at this time)

i guess it will work
we just have to trace its internal memory hardware location
and memory address where the /data folder exists..
then we need to create the partition modules(.ko files)eg:- Ext3.ko
then we need to create supported partition on sdcard.
and then create int2ext script which links the module and partition on sdcard which fools android.

[Q]Link2SD for SM-G7102
Now my Viewsonic V350 is starting to fall in to peaces I've orderd the SM-G7102.
While awaiting the delivery I'm studying the posibilities.
On the V350 Link2SD was briliant to get around the lack of memory of the phone. I've become very fond of it.
Here's a question for the Link2SD users:
Did anyone manage to get the seccond partition working as a ext3?
Yes for me it works with ext4 format

Yes for linking apps to sd depending on kernel support & selecting the correct mount scripts in link2sd
No for swap - you need a swap partition but swap is pointless anyway - There is no need for it & in my opinion you will get no benefit

Only by creating virtual storage on your sd card & linking apps to it - you already have an ext partition
If you mean ram then no - nothing that will make the phone suddenly super fast

I have set the default install location in link2sd to internal, confirmed using command
pm getInstallLocation
1(Internal)
But still certain apps get installed to the sdcard. If the apps get installed to the sdcard link2SD cannot auto link newly installed apps. In A2SD GUI it shows apps on internal. How do I force the apps to get installed on the internal storage?
Do I need to activate zipalign on boot in a2sdgui?

You can't force an app to install anywhere - only ask it to but if it's manifest states to install it somewhere that's where it will be installed
Of course you can decompile the apk & edit the manifest resign the apk & install it however you won't be able to update the app via playstore without uninstalling the modded version first
Best to just manually link what you want

Did the same and working properly but swap is not activating and auto deactivating cant extend ram by the method please suggest.

Either remove the mod if possible maybe a script in init.d or flash stock rom via odin & start again (see my firmware thread)
Also your kernel might not support this mod
Please don't ask me what does as I don't have your device
link2sd wont work
second partition wont mount automatically.
link2sd wont work after rebooting many times
