[Q] question for developers

Hi guys.
I'm new to the forum and own a galaxy s5 plus g901f. I bought the phone new from eBay an unwanted upgrade. The phone was advertised as g900f so I was fairly happy until I discovered I was stuck on touchwiz as there is no support for this modal at all. I can't tell you how much I hate touchwiz and coming from nexus its made me miss aosp even more.
I've always rooted my devices but have little knowledge of making a custom rom. I wanted to ask the clued up folks, could I use a normal s5 aosp ROM and edit it to work on the s5 plus? Would it be quite simple as its similar with a few upgrades? Or would I need to start from scratch?
Any info would be great.
Mike
Best you can do is try the S5 plus specific thread.

How to install stock android in S7 Edge? Possible consequences?

Hi there every one,
This is my first thread and second post. I have made some research but really want to make this question, can Touchwiz on the new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge be changed for the stock version of Android? If yes, How many core functionalities (Edge contacts, etc) Will be lost?
Thank you.
It depends on which version of the Galaxy s7 you get. Verizon and at&t lock their bootloaders, so it would be impossible on those versions. In addition, you would have to wait for someone to find a root method, and for a developer to make a custom ROM. As far as features go, you would would lose all Touchwiz related features such as the edge functionality, split screen, etc. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
If you're able to unlock the bootloader (if it's locked) and once root comes out for the device and ROMs are available, then yes you can. But as the person before me said, you'll lose all of TouchWiz's extra features and it'll be like using a Nexus device. I personally wouldn't want to install Stock Android on my S7 Edge, I think TouchWiz brings a lot of things to the table for it.
Would we not be able to use the Samsung camera app if this was done? Would this make the camera have worse performance in terms of speed and processing or??

In the past, if you install stock Android you need to use the AOSP or Google camera app, or any of the many in the Play Store. Some port cameras from other phones, but generally the camera experience will be significantly worse in terms of performance, quality, and features.
Thank you for the helpful information.
Except whats beeing posted above, if you want some stock feel to the homescreen and apps atleast there is the Google Launcher you could use, and maybe a theme? But other than that, nothing more right now. But im going to give the new UI a chance, looks promising.
Are these phones not all the same this time around?
Wasn't it being said that they are all the same and whatever the first SIM card you pop in locks into that carrier?
If this is the case, won't all of the S7 Edge US models be technically unified for development?
No, the phones are designed for different carriers, and have support for different LTE bands. In addition, Verizon and at&t lock their bootloaders so u can't customize phones u get from them. U might be able to use a T-Mobile phone on at&t because they share many of the same bands.
i have searched... and cant find the exact answer.. so i have an ATT galaxy S7, and i want to get rid of the touchwiz.. and the horrible samsung messenger, email, and phone, and other apps.. i would like it to be the same as my nexus phone. can anyone point me in the right direction?
Try Google Now Launcher and download the google apps for messaging, calling, clock, etc
is there a way to fully disable samsung dialer/contacts and use google instead ? what about incoming phonecalls ?

Is it possible to flash the galaxy note7 os onto the galaxy 7 edge?

With all the explosions and screen cracking issues with the new galaxy note 7, a replacement is needed for many people. But I'm wondering if there is any way for somebody to flash the firmware of the galaxy note (exploding version) onto the galaxy 7 edge. This would be an ideal alternative for me and several other people I know with a similar issue. Is it possible?

You could try the Renovate Note 2.0 ROM for S7 Edge in the custom ROM section of the S7 Edge forum. The link I'll post will direct you to a ROM made for the Exynos S7 Edge, as far as I know, not the Snapdragon. So make sure you know if it works on your phone before installing please.

If you have exynos s7e, you are able to flash them. Half of the roms in the development sections are note 7 port, I am currently running hydrarom
That helps. Thanks. One follow up question though. Will the stylus still be required with either of those roms or will I be able to use it freely with my fingers?
You can even flash a Note 7 stock rom from Sammobile on a S7 Edge but it won't boot.
There are many N7 roms for S7 Edge, and S-Pen won't work on the S7 Edge. You can only use Your finger. I'd recommend either HydraRom or OnTheEdge 4.0. They both are great. And if You don't want to change Your knox to 0x1 then wait till Wednesday, then You can flash Nougat beta with most Note 7 features and probably some extra features.

Will Samsung Gear S3 function properly with a Rooted S7 Edge?

Hey everyone,
I ordered a Samsung Gear S3, and currently own a stock Samsung S7 Edge, which has been annoying me quite a bit lately. After looking around, it seemed like stang5litre's ROM looks pretty good, however, I am worried that by doing this upgrade, will I lose functionality on the watch, such as Samsung Pay/MST? Does anyone currently own this watch, paired with a rooted phone? If so, can you please provide your experience with this?
Also, as a side question, is it suggested that I wait for Nougat to be released or rooting and installing ROM is the way to go?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!
So i have the gear s3 and a rooted att s7 on Echoe rom. The samsung pay actually works on the watch. when you set it up in the watch it opens up on your phone to scan cards in and doesn't complain about being rooted or such unlike normal samsung pay. I have tested it once with the watch and it did work. all other functionality works fine. If you have any questions let me know
Head over to the Samsung Gear S3 forums and you'll see all sorts of members saying how Samsung Pay works with root on the Gear. It's actually a question I asked on those forums and I think a lot of people were happy to find out pretty much any rooted phone worked.

Advice on a Brand New Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Hello, I am getting a brand new Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, should I root and Rom the device BEFORE activating it or activate the device with Verizon then Root and Rom the device? Thank You in advance.
Personally due banking and pay things I stopped rooting. It was a constant pain to keep up with Roms and updates. It just wasn't fun anymore. I had a developer Note 4 which was my last Rooted phone. Since then the Note 7 (i had to return) and going back to the S7 Edge. I ALWAYS rooted my phones. Now I have found I dont need to anymore. I am actually pretty happy now. While sure there is somethings I wish I could do, rooting just isnt as necessary anymore.
Hello Matttrix, I still enjoy having my devices (phones and tablets) rooted because I like to use certain rooted apps like (Titanium Pro) also on my phone I like to be able to have that free Wi-Fi tethering that in having ROMs installed on it gives you.
I use root mostly for ad block
I soo miss being able to backup and things like I did.. But then I realized since I don't root and fool with stuff like I did I haven't needed to "reset" so much. I think I have only reset my phone once since the second recall of the Note 7 and I got my S7 Edge last year.
The ad blocking certainly is limited I use Adguard an for the most part happy but uea having root for ad blocking would be better.
