Still the best phone?

So...after 4 months with the Verizon version, I'm making what I call a "lateral"transfer to the LG G2. Specs are becoming moot. The G2 offers a lot, the battery being a big factor.
Did anyone else let go of there Moto X 2014?

I'll never let go of the Moto X, best phone ever made. I always sell my old devices to pay for my new ones, but that's not gonna happen this time around. This bad boy is going in the museum when I upgrade.

A friend just got the G3 as there was some issue getting the Moto X (corporate account). It's a great phone, but I wasn't a big fan of their software overlays. Plus cell radio quality is a big factor for me and the Moto X has better radio/antenna system. Camera on LG is noticeably better, but still not good enough if it is low light and something I really care about. Nice that it has removable battery and SD card, but have really never needed either.
And I do like the Moto X add ons... if they'd only get 'Attentive Display' working on Lollipop!

I'm finding that the battery isn't holding up long term.I need more. It's great for what it does, but it's a legitimate step back. It's rather disappointing.

Attentive display seems to be working quite well in the newest lollipop build (5.0.1) that was just released for Telus in Canada.

Good to hear. Hopefully we'll get that in the US soon.

Its the best phone for who dont have an att branded device. I cant unlock it and dont have lollipop.. Next time i will pay more for a pure.

The moto x series is really a breakthrough, this phone is (the) smartphone, I spent an hour or two receiving and responding to messages and calls without touching it not to mention other genius features which are hardware dependent.

Cons: no sd card and no easily removable battery
Pro: everything else
A very nice phone

The battery life is really bad, and has gotten worst. Even with Lollipop, which made it better, I'm not happy. As much as I love the speed of the phone, the battery is killing me hard! The G2 will give me near similar speed with much better battery, not to mention greater storage. This may be on Swappa soon...

I went from a nexus 5 to a G3 to now the moto X² PE and won't give this up unless something crazy comes out or the X³ arrives.
I have not had any battery issues with this phone as I consistently get 4.5 hrs SOT with 12+ hours total. I will say that the camera on the G3 was much better, but the moto X isn't horrible. And the hands free/voice actions with this phone are second to none.
That's just my humble opinion though.

As someone on Verizon, this phone is BY FAR the best available. No bloatware other than AcDisplay and some nice Moto things that make the phone better. Coming from a GS3 and a Galaxy Nexus (switched after my GS3 cracked), this phone is a god when it comes to battery life. I consistently get three, if not four hours of SoT per day. This phone already has lollipop and had it before some Nexus devices got it, and some flagships still don't have it, let alone on Verizon. The only thing not so good is the camera, but it gets the job done fine as long as there's good lighting. If I had the choice (unlocked cell service), I would still choose the OnePlus One, but I didn't have a choice.

I'm on Verizon, and you must not have used a G3 or the Turbo at all. The LG skin is light (I come from Samsung) and the Turbo is the X beefed up.

The Turbo looks great on paper, but the actual device is only so-so. I spent a good deal of time with one and walked away unimpressed. The X has FAR better build quality, is as fast if not faster (no QHD screen to waste resources on) and was generally smoother. Sure the turbo has better battery life, but my X easily lasts through the day and then some so it's a non-issue. The G3 is ugly, the skin is still pretty bad, and it is underpowered for the screen it has. Aside from the N5, everything LG puts out is just meh. People need to stop looking at only specs, they don't matter nearly as much as they used to. That said, the X still provides the best user experience out of any phone on the market, and that is what's important.

My feelings exactly. I really, really didn't like how the Turbo was built and even though the G3 build in my opinion is sleek, it's nothing special compared to the X. I've never used either phone as a daily driver, so I may not be the best one to judge it, but the Moto X is blazing fast with "good enough" features that work for me as a user who just wants to get through the day being able to use features like Google Now, something I was never able to keep on with my previous phones. The experience of the X is perfect for an everyday user, like most people are, and in my opinion that's what matters most in a phone. Again, I may have bias as this is my only phone I have been using.

Well, from the beginning of time until now, numbers haven't lied. That's not up for debate. But with user experience..I have to install nova launcher on the X because stock is lacking. The G2 (which I'm going to) offers equal speed. A smaller os, better battery and excellent build all while being a year older. The X while being customizable is just not enough for a power user.

I never said numbers lie, but they aren't always representative of the actual experience that the phone provides. If numbers meant everything, than the iPhone would have the worst battery life and performance of any smartphone out there, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. The same applies to the X. While the Turbo has better numbers, the X has the better UX. I don't see how the X isn't enough for a power user, I'm the very definition of a power user and it is pretty much everything I can ask for in a smartphone, with storage being the sole exception. Who cares if you have to put Nova launcher on it? That has no bearing on the quality of the phone itself. At least it doesn't have a nasty UI like the G2 does, even Nova cant save it from LG's hideous software, not to mention the plastic fantastic build. But everybody is entitled to their own opinion. If you think the G2 will serve your needs better, than that's wonderful. For me, the X is where its at.

and i'm confused between nexus 5 and moto x(2014) ?
i personally like pure vanilla aosp and this both have almost same though moto has some modification i don't think it will impact badly on performance ( does it? )
i love N5's fast update smooth performance even with some hardware compromises
but on other has moto x have better SD801 , and GUP freq 578 (vs 450 on N5) { will gaming performance be better ? } which in theory make it batter performance so if any anyone here can tell it's really an upgrade or i won't feel anything better
finally i like amoled but read somewhere that amoled pannel on moto x is worst qauily that samsung can make (really ?!!) , othere thing about camera ppl says it's 13MP is not as good as 8MP of N5 !! ( is it right ? ) and moto don't have notification led & OIS ( while taking pictures only does it matter ? )
so need your view should i go for moto X of stick again with relibale N5 ? will moto x be really upgrade ?
and how's lollipop on moto X ? ( i really like lollipop so hoping bugfree )

old generation phone vs new one. I really have no doubt which one to buy between 2 candidates.
maybe take a look to lg products or htc but don't make a step into the past.

I have and use both of those phones regularly and while the N5 is still a beast of a phone, the Moto X is easily the better of the two. The software mods that Motorola has done don't affect performance at all, and actually go a long way to making the Moto X what it is. Moto Display and Moto Voice are game changers. Gaming performance is great on both devices but slightly better on the Moto X. I can't say anything about lollipop because I don't like it at all and am keeping all my devices on KitKat indefinitely. If you get the X, which you should, make sure you buy the Pure Edition or at least one that's not branded by a carrier who doesn't allow bootloader unlocking. You need that unlockable bootloader in order to be able to root the phone.

OnePlus 2 Vs moto X play : Which phone should i buy?

Guys plz tell me which fone should i buy?
my requirements are
1)screen size should not be greater than 5.5 inches (not even 5.6)
2)price should be equal to or less than Rs.25000( about $380)
3) decent battery backup
4) should not lag at all and should be smooth to use
5) i should be able to use the phone for about 2 years without any problems
i was crazy about oneplus 2 initially but i see a lot of negative reviews . i saw a video of speedtest between oneplus 2 vs moto x play in which moto x play beats oneplus 2 easily (i am shocked and confused after watching this)
please help and guide me.

Most of the problems with oneplus 2 are software related and can be fixed. If oneplus wants to, we can have a beast phone. I would personally go for op2 again because of the looks and ability to flash ROMs without losing warranty but I don't blame you if you go for moto x.

Good answer. Went for one plus 2 just because of the development aspect and the great camera, mixed reviews, but I've loved it so far. Feels like bit of a gamble waiting for one plus to get the software optimised with the hardware, will they get there? If they don't someone else will though and I think, if you like things a bit rough round the edges with lots of potential for tweaking etc. Go 4 opt

The play is on a completely different level than the oneplus 2. Even though the oneplus 2 is currently buggy due to poorly optimized software and a flaky cpu, it'll run circles around the moto x play. The play is using a modified version of the CPU in the galaxy s4 and HTC one M7. It's old, it's slow, the GPU is trash, and apparently has the same overheating issues the snapdragon 810 and 808 have. Now, the pure, on the other hand, can definitely keep up with the oneplus 2. I owned both the Moto x pure and the oneplus 2 at the same time and ended up returning the moto x, despite the fact that it was better in every measurable way than the oneplus 2 because it was uncomfortable to hold. The screen was a bit too big and the phone was a bit too wide and too thin and too slippery for my tastes. I dropped it several times during my time with it and just really was not a comfortable phone to hold. But to each their own, totally could have gone the other way, too, both good phones! (Well, ok, the oneplus 2 isn't good yet, but there's potential).
Honestly, if you want the best phone for that kind of money, get the oneplus one and don't even think twice about it. It's far better than the moto x play and the oneplus 2.

But i heard the complete opposite that if you dont have oneplus one then go for OP2 not oneplus one. Another question - If i buy OP2 and root it with other roms/Add kernels then will it void the warranty?

I like my OPT more and more every day. I'm a huge Motorola X guy but opted with OPT. I still own the Motorola X 2014 and Nexus 6.
One Plus 2 has huge potential but it may take a bit of time to get there.
The last update (2.1) has improved things and Android M hopefully will help too.
To be fair, I haven't had any issues with my phone. Screen is nice, fingerprint scanner works flawlessly (better than my Note 5), battery life has been good and overheating a non-issue for me. The camera is great.
Honestly, you can't go wrong with either phone.

I currently have a Moto X Pure and I LOVE it.... I've had it for about 3 weeks - but I just received my OP2 invite last week and went ahead and pulled the trigger and it should be here Monday or Tuesday.....But now, I'm not sure which one I want to keep?!?!
I can refuse the OP2 and get a refund, or sell it to my local/popular "used cell phone" re-seller for probably what I paid for it (or CL for a little more). Or I can keep it and sell the Moto X Pure for probably a little less than what I paid since it's been used for a few weeks.
The ONLY thing that has been the constant deal breaker is the front speakers on the Moto X Pure. I play in a band and watch a lot of YouTube videos to learn new songs and watch movies when I'm "on the road". The front facing speakers is, and has been since my HTC One M7, a big deal for me. How is the OP2 speaker? Is it better than the Galalxy S6?
Also, since owning the MXP, I've really become accustomed to the motion and sensors the MXP offers.... Just wave your hand over the phone to see any notifications or just touch the notification to see more detail (much more than just active display).
Things I REALLY miss... Notification lights. I'm constantly waving my hand over my phone to see if I've missed any calls or text. I had a Galaxy S6 for a little while and really liked the finger print scanner.

Camera - I need a good camera and both seem pretty "on par" with each other.
Custom ROMs - I'm sure the MXP will have plenty soon and the OP2 already has several
A few other concerns.. The MXP's battery life is just OK, not as good as my M8 was but about the same as my M9 (which isn't the best). It is better than the S6..... But I wish it was better. How is the OP2's battery?
USB C - I currently have about 6 or 7 actually active micro USB cables between home, my car, work and my computer bag that get used regularly... Plus my son and I share these chargers when on trips. USB C is the way we're all headed, but i'm not sure I'm ready to shell out $10-15 per cable just yet.
So.....Any input from someone that has owed both would be very helpful.

USB-c (expensive cables but soooo nice to press in the cable and dont have to think about upside down ;p
Community, more custom Roms and kernels. I think it's one guy cooking Roms for the Play, Only one....
Moto X Play:
Battery (this is the best with this phone, easy 6-7h SoT) With the oneplus i get 4h SoT with the same use.
Quick charge
Camera in daylight. Inside in poor light it's pretty bad.
Well, thats it... The oneplus is heavier but i like it, it feels more premium. I love the feeling with my kevlar back.
The Play lags alot, but it's software probs so it will most likely be fixed soon.

Day 3 with my OP2 after sending back my Moto X Pure.....
What I miss about the Moto X Pure:
The great front facing speakers....Biggest complaint on the OP2 is thin sounding speakers
The Moto Gestures and always on listening (even with screen off)
Fast charging of the Moto X Pure....I'd come home from work at 60%, plug it in while I took a shower and change clothes.... 25 minutes later 100%
Daylight picture taking
The speakers (I had to say that one twice, it sounds so good).
What I like better about OnePlus2:
Battery life.... The OP2 gets 3.5 to 4 hrs of SOT... Moto X Pure (not the play), got 3 on a good day and never seen more.
Double tap to wake
Off-screen buttons (like on Samsung)
Notification lights! Probably my biggest complaint with my Moto, I missed the notifications LED.
Feels like a more premium build
Over-all picture taking - Not quite as good in nice light, but better in every other situation.
Fingerprint scanner, even though I don't use it, is quick....
More accessories that actually FIT.

FYI: I sent my Moto X Pure back because it has a few QC issues and I pre-ordered a Nexus 6P. If the OP2 had front speakers, I'd just keep it instead.... Really wish it did.

Imo, both phones are different takes on the same goal. For me it came down to the cpu/screen tradeoff as its clear both phones will have thriving dev communities (cm is really coming along for the pure now in month 1 of release).
The 810 in the OPT was just too hot and the screen just too bland. The 808 and qhd screen of the MXP have been a much more enjoyable experience for me.

I moved up from a T-Mobile HTC M7, that I converted to Google Edition. It was Google Edition most of the time I owned it and I owned it since right around the date of its release.
The MXPE is better in pretty much every way.
Things that make the MXPE better than the HTC One M7:
Cameras
Bigger battery
TurboCharge
Bigger
Louder than the M7's front speakers
Moto Display not on the M7
Moto Actions not on the M7
Moto Maker means I didn't have to buy skins like with the old M7
Water resistance.
Way faster, no lag issues
Way more space, since I got a 64GB
MicroSD support
Based on feedback I get during calls, the call quality is better.

I upgraded from a G3 running CM12.1. I'm really enjoying the MXP, as a daily driver its a better experience.
Everyday I listen to hours of music, and the 64bit audio processing (via Neutron) combined with eXtremeBeats v5 and the front facing speakers make for the best listening experience I've had from a smartphone.
Everyday I use my phone to make calls and surf the web, and the MXP gets on average two more bars (not scientific, I know) than my G3, with better call quality. Everyday I charge my phone after school/work when I get home, and the TurboCharger is just incredible to use; a 40% boost in 15 mins while I blast music in the shower fits my schedule perfectly and lets me use the phone all day without being tethered to an outlet.
Those three features are the main reasons I'm glad I upgraded. Its just a better all around experience than the G3, not to mention I can actually use the device in direct sunlight now.

I'm coming from a 16GB galaxy S4 I337 with a locked bootloader. It took me 3 weeks to get this phone after ordering it and one day after to fall in love with it. 64 GB internal storage, front facing speakers, bigger screen, amazing camera, faster, unlockable bootloader, ability to switch carriers at the drop of a hat, presumably lots of upcoming dev support, gorgeous design, simple to root and get custom recovery, getting great battery life. Etc. I'm very happy with my purchase.

On the fence: MotoX or Nexus 5x

Hey everyone, I don't usually have a hard time deciding on a phone, but I'm pretty stumped deciding between these two. I like the smaller form factor of the Moto, but the Nexus is guaranteed to have support for a pretty long while. I'm leaning toward the moto, but wanted to ask yall's opinion regarding 3rd party support.
I'm a flashoholic and haven't left a phone 'stock' since I left my first Nokia brick behind. I currently have an LG optimus G and am totally not in love with it. Before that, I had a Evo 4g (probably my favorite phone that I've ever had) that I kept for four years until the main board burned out. The LG had great hardware specs, but the mod community never coalesced around it in any significant way; that is my fear with the Moto X.
I'm on the sprint network, and could get a S6 for about half the cost of the Moto, but the mod support is totally nonexistent over there (even less so with the s7). Both the Nexus and Moto seem to do fine on the Sprint network, so aside from arguing with my wife about it, there's no reason to go that route.
Is there a reason to pick one over the other? Does the dev community here seem fairly solid?

Obviously there's going to be more development for the 5x but it's really up to you to choose which one suits your needs/wants better.
I don't do a lot of customizing, just center clock, volume button to skip music, and a custom kernel for color control. The only gaming I do is emulation which both can handle no problem. I'm not a "power user" so battery life is a non issue for me. I prefer the 5x's screen compared to the overkill with brightness and resolution on the X but the speakers on the X make the 5x sound like a childs toy. I also prefer Moto display over ambient.
I'm on AT&T and my reception and call quality are equal on the both, much better than my S6.
There are a few things I don't like about the Moto such as the heat, lack of fingerprint scanner (I hate passcodes) and I wish it had a USB-C connection. Having an iPhone also, I really appreciate the reversibility.
These are just my opinions, yours are what really matters.

I do not like the massive 'can't put this in a pocket' size of the 6p.

My mistake, I suppose I'd seen a comparison that did the 2014 phone vs the 6p? I stand corrected on the size issue

I don't think you can really go wrong with either. Both have good points one the other when compared so ultimately it depends which one has the aspects you like best. I chose the MXPE because of the Moto customizations and camera. But more importantly, Motorola always has seemed to have stronger radios. I work in an area where reception is always poor and HTC, Samsung and LG phones would drop connections regularly. This happens much less frequently with this phone.

Pixel XL or V20

It is time for a new phone, my Moto X Style (Pure) on T-Mobile is getting a bit long in the tooth.
1) storage is only 16GB so even with the few apps I use, I have to clear cache to update apps (photos, videos, etc all goto the SD Card)
2) signal is crap at times and call quality suffers
3) Lenorola is starting to slack on Android update time frames, they use to be quick with the last two Moto X and now they are getting behind (even with security updates)
I am on T-Mobile and I mainly do alot of audio (BT), some pictures and video, and the rest is just FB, Email, Text, Web Browsing
My choices are to go with the V20 and root it to get a few apps that I need
or wait and order a Pixel XL (128GB) and ride the google update train again.

I was faced with the same decision.. 16GB is just a non-starter for me, and I couldn't wait for the 128GB version to become available. Also Google's hardware didn't completely impress me.. I picked up the V20 coming from the Note 7.. honestly my plan is to run with it until the Note 8 comes out more than likely. I think the Google phone will have a longer lifespan and obviously quicker updates.. but I needed a phone and couldn't wait for the 128GB version to come out. Also the price difference was pretty significant compared the Verizon's price on the V20.. so that was a factor as well.
Overall the V20 didn't 'wow' me like the Note 7 did.. but its still a very good phone and for the $650 or so I got it for I am happy.. I don't think the Pixel XL would have wowed me either to be honest after having the Note 7 though.

The last LG phone I had was the G4 and that was a bit of a let down.
Since I am on T-Mobile coming from a Moto X Pure (3rd Gen) I won't get any trade in value at all (keeping it as a backup)
It is $30 a month for the V20 on T-Mobile, or I buy the Pixel XL and get $325 in credit over 24 months which will take away some of the hit over time for the Pixel XL
I am leaning to the V20 right now, especially because of how on top of updates LG has appeared to become. I just hate the bloat, hopefully there are good fixes for that or someone later releasing a cleaned up stock rom

Pick the Pixel for:
- better camera (especially video stabilization)
- fast updates and longer lifespan
- better one-handed usage
- fluid software experience
- looks (subjective I know, but I kinda like it and it has no camera hump)
Lg v20 for:
- removable battery
- better sound experience
- military grade drop protection
- manual camera mode if that's your thing
- expandable storage
- second screen is useful sometimes
I obviously went with the v20. Unlocked bootloader on T-Mobile and root on it fixes some software problems. Although I wouldn't complain if I had went with the Pixel either

I'm currently facing the EXACT dilemma.
After reading your comments, I think I might pick up the T-mobile version of the V20 instead.
Since we still do not have an official V20 root for the Canadian model.

Looks like I am leaning to the V20 as well. Mainly for the camera, screen, audio.
Even if we get a stock cleaned up ROM later then it would be perfectly fine.

Not sure about your options in your part of the world, but here in New Zealand the pixel XL is $1400 while i bought the V20 for $900. So yea, no explanation needed

I came from the nexus 6P which I loved to this phone and to honest I love the battery life and everything it has to offer so far. Up in Canada they are offering the B&O H3 headphones plus 200 off which was 799 for the whole package which is a wicked deal

I have the Tmo V20 and I didn't feel like there was much bloat...well compared to AT&T's devices. Coming from the N7 my only gripe is the low light pictures come out gainier than the N7. I hated the edge screen on the N7 but I really dig the second screen on the V20. The screen isn't as saturated as an AMOLED screen, but in everyday use I don't notice it. Done call the V20 ugly, but I honestly love the looks. Of course most people throw a case on their device, so does that even matter?

If you listen to BT audio a lot stop hesitating and go get the LGv20 and grab a pair of BT headphones with Aptx support (lgv20 one of only a couple phones that support it.) I have these and they are awesome.

Honestly paying that much for a mere 128 gb is outrageous. For $400-500 like the old Nexus phones... sure I might be convinced to give up the extensive list of V20 features some of which were not even present in the Note 7. I see the Pixel XL like the Android version of the IPhone 7's business model: add a camera that's nice but doesn't blow the others out of the water anymore, give it a short shelf life with limited storage and non-removable battery (so that you MUST upgrade after 12 months), put a lot of emphasis on zippy when the competition are pretty zippy already. Overall a pretty meh exterior design like the V20 and Iphone7. The Note is prettier but that finger print magnet back is a chore and I had enough of TouchWiz lagging down the experience compares to the V20.
I have a YouTube Red account. With a 250 GB Samsung micro SD ($70 eBay) and 64 GB on board I have so much content I don't know what do with.
I picked up two new TVs on black Friday. I use the V20 IR blaster with both. Same for the Kinivo HDMI splitter, no more fumbling with that little easy to lose clicker.
The V20 has Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, which the others don't have, is like one of the best V20 features. I use a 3.0 Anker PowerCore+ 10k mAh power bank ($40 Amazon) with an iOrange-E type C cable and the V20 absolutely flies from 40%-80%.
The second screen is probably the most useful feature I can switch to different songs on Amazon music app, use it as the zoom wheel in video recording, allows for more fluid app switching than interrupting the main screen just to use the multitasking soft button. And the quad DAC actually drives my V-Moda M100s. I wanted to test this against the Note 7 but the Fire Department said no can do homey. And rumor is no more headphone jack on new Samsungs. You'll have to spend $300 on Bluetooth Bose headphones with as good a sound as upper mid tier wired cans.
Honestly...even if V20, Note 7, iphone 7 and Pixel XL were all priced the same it would be a no brainer for me as far as useful features I rely on every day.

For me, it was a price per gb difference, and a looks thing. I came off an S6 Edge, and for me, the Pixel looks like an iPhone minus the home button. Yeah, it's on 7.1, and will get updates sooner (but I'm on Verizon so it's bound to be slower no matter which one). The smaller capacity model would never work for me, I download too many movies and stuff for that. My Edge was 64 and that was a decent balance between saving until I downloaded it off to the computer. Plus I get the expansion slot for more just because you never know. Could care less about the removable battery, but to some it's a plus. The camera seems to be subjective on video reviews, between people that prefer one over the other. I use a DSLR for anything important, so it's not a deal-breaker for me, and it takes pictures just fine for my eyes anyway. I didn't buy it as a camera, I bought it as a phone. And I know the LG G2 I had was rooted pretty quickly if memory serves, and just browsing seems like we've got a good group tackling that now (missed that on my S6). So in the end, the cost savings, and the aesthetics won me over between the two, with everything else basically being a wash either way. Plus, coming from the other phone, every time a gal looks at it, they always seem to say "Wow that's big". Simple pleasures, but it never gets old

By the way, NetFlix now has downloads. As does Amazon video and YouTube Red. I see no win with a phone that kills micro SD.

I bought V20. And I love myself for that decision.

Believe it or not I returned the S8 and got mine. I'm freakin stoked by what LG has to offer. This my 1st non samsung phone and its rooted.

I ended up selling my V20 it was glitch fest everywhere even after several factory resets and the batter drain was bad.....I do miss the extra camera and the DAC but outside of that I love the S8+. This is my first Samsung phone since the note 3.

I am kind of on the same page. I jumped on the v20 from a note 4. My note 4 had less bugs, better battery life, and a better screen. "Auto" picture quality was much better on the note.
Things i will miss about the V20/Pros
~ Full manual camera controls and the wide angle lens
~ DAC
~ Second display
~ Build Quality
~ Removable Battery
***Biggest complaint by far is Battery life.. From my Pokemon Go experience specifically, my Girlfriend has a iPhone 6s. My note 4 battery life was better than hers. My V20 is literally half that of hers now. Same apps installed across both phones. Phone gets HOT.
