6P is connected to Verizon mobile hotspot wifi. Verizon wifi speed more than 6Mbps, ping 60 ms (tested from Dolphin browser without data compression)
The 6P Wi-Fi list indicates
Status- Connected
Signal strength- Excellant
Link speed- 72Mbps
Frequency- 2.4 GHz
Security- WPA2 PSK
The 6P phone "Update phone" screen proves internet access by connecting to Google terms of service and privacy policy web pages and allowing web page links to work. Even able to navigate to the Google search/sign in page from the 6P "Update phone" screen, but can't sign in because no keyboard pop up.
Verified the wifi network works for all my other devices. Tried forgetting/rescaning wifi network many times, tried with and without the Google Fi sim card many times, tried wiping cache, factory reset, and recovery modes many times. Tried leaving the 6P connected to the Verizon mobile hotspot for more than 15 hours. Tried the Fi LTE.
After more than 25 restart/initialization attempts, only the previously mentioned web pages display on the 6P "Update phone" screen, on wifi or LTE.
Any more suggestions before I contact a Google hardware specialist?
Can you skip the update? Or pull Verizon sim, go through first boot, then power down, insert sim and power back on. Seems that carrier sims mess with the update on first boot.
Using Google's Project Fi sim as noted previously. Will have a sim cutter (and sim adapters) here this afternoon to trim the Note 3 Verizon micro sim to nano. Then I will try the 6P with the Verizon sim.
No button/menu options to bypass phone initialization updates.
UPDATE: No sim cutter, Google hardware "specialist" authorized a replacement, charged to my credit card of course. Now Google is into me for $1500.
2:17pm
Posting from my (authorised for return) 6P.
"Via Wi-Fi only until 10:16 am"
Restarted the initialization again at 10:17am
Imagine a Google hardware specialist, claiming to use the Google knowledge data base not knowing this, and apparently, Google has informed no one, not a word to anyone that using a mobile hotspot, or clicking past the data usage warning still wouldn't allow the download. 6 wasted hours.
Very disappointing.
Is there a fix for this. Cant get past update phone. Im on wifi with no SIM in it.

Greetings All,
Got my Xoom back from its 4G upgrade last week and I have been noticing some issues with connecting over the 3G/4G network now. I use pocketcloud to connect to computers over RDP and when connected over WiFi networks, it works fine (computers connected to networks other than one I am connected to WiFi on), but when using the 3G or 4G connection on the Xoom, there is a network connection error. I tried it out on my incredible and it works just fine. Also, sometimes I get an error "cannot update" from the engadget app.
Also, the new market would not install some of my apps, like ThinkFree Office for example, I worked around it by using the web interface of Android Market on my computer and it worked fine.
I sent in the Xoom completely reverted back to stock 3.1, I recieved it with 3.2.2 stock. I cleared memory after I got it back and did a factory data reset. Not rooted, and no other modifications have been made.
I'm at a loss as to why some connections are causing the network to flake out.
Regards.
I read on here that some of the app installation issues were due to the possible change in pixel density that took place with the upgrade but that is something you can change back if you root.
I'm noticing the same exact issue and have no idea what is causing it - let's see if together we can figure it out. It's extremely flaky so far.
I got my upgraded Xoom back today and noticed the exact same issue. It wouldn't activate on the setup screen and prompted me to reboot. After reboot, it connected to 4g just fine and showed the 4g icon below.
I then went into the market to install my apps. It installed Thumbkeyboard just fine but when I went to install others, it stopped at 8.03k on the download. Did this for every app i tried.
I turned on wifi, connected to my AP and the downloads worked just fine. Even tried a couple reboots before doing this and it didnt work.
My 4g signal is about 75% so it's strong.
Very strange...
Power off
Remove SIM.
Put SIM back in
Power on
Done. Worked for me.
I take it back, still having all kind of issues.
just got mine back this morning, and it wont connect to anything! no 3g, no 4g, no wifi... nothing. WTF!?!?! restarted, pulled sim, etc...
going to do restore next and see what that does.
Same connection problems
Got my LTE upgrade back.
When I am at work I cannot update Touchdown from inside the firewall (not sure why) so I flip back to Verizon to refresh by shutting down the wifi. When I do, I noticed that the xoom would drop the connection (three bars) and then not reconnect. When I try to turn on the wifi it stays grayed out and neither system will connect until I reboot.
Went around with VZW tech support, they reported that the unit was registering on their network but not connecting. Sent back to Moto for further testing, got the unit back (they reported it was a software fix, no other data) but the unit continues to have the problem.
Stock 3.2.2 xoom with LTE
Any suggestions appreciated....
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?
Hello, I am still having all kinds of connection issues after I received my device from Motorola. After a reboot the xoom will connect to the Verizon network but If it stays idle for some time, I lose the connection and it will not connect until I reboot the device.
sent it for replacement
I had the same problem. I had to send it back once for 'repair' (no improvement) before Motorola replaced the unit due to an undefined hardware problem. Keep calling or go to a store.
I had something similar when I got my Xoom back. Apparently the geniuses at Verizon never added the SIM to my account. Took multiple calls/emails to get it corrected. Once someone realized it was missing it was corrected in about 10 minutes.

In your case did you have sporadic connection or, without the SIM number, were you completely unable to connect?
BTW, I missed this thread when it was fresh (as I was traveling) but I've had the exact same issues since the LTE upgrade. When it happens, the only way to reconnect is to reboot.
I used to be able to get it to reconnect by switching airplane mode on and off. Sometimes I had to reboot. Friday, even that did not help. I was furious. The next day, the update pushed out to me via wifi. I guess the servers recognized me as a customer again even though I already had a 2 year contract. Some people got the dataplan because they don't use wifi. I love the shortsightedness of the people who come up with this... not.
At least I haven't gotten disconnected since the patch was installed.

I had to unroot my device for 4G to start working normal.
Hello,
Yesterday I received my new Nexus 4 and after inserting the sim card (cut by myself with scissors) started receiving a notification saying "Sign in to network" and below that the name of my carrier (movistar Nicaragua). When I click on the notification, the browser opens and tries to load the url (I can't post the url because of forum restrictions, i am a new user) . After a while, the browser redirects me to my network operator web page. I cannot use data apps like Whatsapp in the meantime. I didn't have this issue with the same SIM card on my previous phone (HTC One S).
Is anybody having the same issues? I am on stock 4.2.1 unrooted
I guess your service provider needs you to log on to some GATEWAY !?
Like in wifi networks it happens sometimes ... and it asks to enter username and password of your account !
I have this same issue. on Net10. any updates on this?
Get a real micro sim. Don't use a cut down one.
Man, I’m from Honduras, using tigo, that’s not an issue of your phone, it’s a carrier issue, you should go to movistar and make them fix it, it is like something is blocking your internet connection, they put some restrains on it so that you have to pay for some extra connection.
I have a regular T-Mo micro sim and it's happened to me a few times. I just restart my phone.
My phone showed that twice today, never happened since having the nexus 4 since December..I'm in the U.S. on Tmobile

Have the same problem Here
Hey guys, i just have the same problem here.
It has been 10days till now
currently using galaxy s4, android 4.2.2, from Indonesia (carrier's : XL Axiata)
Does anyone know how to fix this problem ??
It will very helpful to me, cause i'm very annoyed of this notification
this notification (Sign into Network) pop up nearly 10 times a day.
I have several times contacted the carrier (XL) and the samsung centre too, but both didn't know what is the problem.
Thank you.
Hi. First of all this is my first post here.
The same problem as above post.
And then i try to do something. I went to phone type * #*#info#*#* and turn on the ims registration and no notification pop out anymore.
But. I noticed mobile data is very slow after that.
So i just return it to default "off"
Still looking for a clue. Anybody have the answer?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I have a cut Sim too. When I first got my phone, it asked me to sign in, but I didn't have an account with my carrier other than my billing account. Over a period of time the notification went away and everything is working fine.
Edit: try switching mobile data ports and on and do a phone restart. This stopped the notification.

I got my xperia Z since April, I got the same notification twice since last week
I also got a second signal bar.. I took some screenshots
I started getting this on my nexus 5 recently. I had reached my monthly fair usage limit so I went to settings -> data usage and moved the usage warning bar up a couple 100mb and that stopped the warning notification.
Experiencing this as well.

FWIW, I had it for about a week on ATT prepaid, though this was because I had zero available data left. Once I added more to my account, data started working and it stopped asking me to sign in. I think it just automatically displays that when it can't get a data connection.

Yep, this seemed to be an issue. When I have reached my limit it started to appear.

I have the same problem. It make notification at the time u linked to mobile data too, and i can't suffer it any more.So i have searched all internet and have no progress. But i found the way to block its notifications rather than voiding generation.
It's a notification generated from "Android System" and seems like a network-check function. So the problem have the mobile carrier's part(I'm in china, you know). And u can't block all notifications of "Android System" using tools like LBE or Gravitybox or anyothers cause it is useful all the time.
This Xposed Mod can help us: NotifyClean, it is the only tool to block several notifications u want of one app.
Use it in ur rooted system with xposed framework, and open it from xposed. It can log all notifications and u can tick the "Sign in to network"s in "Android System".
Hello,
I've had this issue across more than 1 device and more than 1 carrier.
Here's what happens:
I enable WiFi, and for a while everything works as expected. I can send and receive MMS messages. I can disable WiFi and go back to my 4G connection.
The problem is, after an unknown amount of time, the phone drops the 4G connection in the background. I only know when I can't receive/send MMS messages anymore. At that point, if I disable WiFI there's no 4G data connection, and I have to turn Airplane mode off and turn it back on.
This is really annoying. It happened to me using Sprint and a Galaxy S4 (both stock and custom ROMs) and it's happening to me with a Galaxy S5 from MetroPCS. (I've used the stock Metro ROMs, Stock T-mobile ROMs, and Custom T-mobile ROMs).
Right now I'm using a Stock T-mobile ROM with the latest firmware, carrier is MetroPCS.
What can I do so this doesn't happen? It's really frustrating.
Thank you for your time.
Disabled "Smart Network Switch" in WiFi Settings?

Disabled "Smart Network Switch" in WiFi Settings?

Hello.
That's already disabled.
Should I enable it?
I tried with "smart network switch" enabled and disabled and problem still happened.
My S5 G900F Android 5.00 (Smart Network Switch disabled, Power Save disabled) on EE UK has had this problem for 9 months after phone upgraded itself to Lollipop (EE win the accolade to being the SLOWEST ON THE PLANET to provide Android updates.....). Since Jan 3, my wife's G901, a couple of weeks after it upgraded from 5.0 to 5.02, has developed the same problem. Neither phone has ever been rooted or other.
I have fruitlessly searched everywhere for a solution without success. EE Customer Services Tier 2 & Samsung's own service centre have failed to fix it. EE & Samsung blame each other for 5.1 or 5.1.1 not being available for download. Neither is prepared to resolve the issue despite hours on the phone. Have tried Safe Mode, Factory Reset, clearing everything, reloading APNs & Samsung even reloaded Android. All a waste of time: Many many days of it!
After approx half an hour connected to Wi-Fi, only way to get the mobile data to connect, is either reboot, enter & exit Air-plane mode or flip the 4G > 3G > 4G connection under More Networks. Have tested the fault in different cell areas countries and continents; fault is same everywhere.
It seems there are quite a few sufferers of this problem.
Samsung S5 keeps losing data connection
I have the same problem. My new Samsung phone loses the data connection (even though data is turned on) and I can only re-connect by restarting the phone. The first EE shop I took it to couldn't help at all. The second gave me a new SIM - that didn't work. Then I tried online support and after 3.5 hours of my life, in which I was passed on from one person to another, they completed a factory re-set - which didn't work (and additionally lost all the personalisation of my screen and some of my contacts). So I now have a not-very-smart phone which I have to re-start every time I want to use data. This is a business contract and the phone is less than two months old, but I'm not getting any effective support from EE. Android version is 5.0.2
me too, since last update. and app 'phono' shows "mobile data off" not got a time on it, but when i leave wifi coverage, it wont reconnect to cell data 2g/3g/4g. flightmode toggle to restore.
Abandon hope if you have this intermittent mobile data problem!
...at least until there is a software update, though I have no idea if that will help.
I have now tried a new sim card, a factory reset, and a replacement phone - which was provided only because I'm a business customer and I found a sympathetic member of staff. *By the way, I was told that if you are personal customer they won't consider replacing your phone if it is more than a month old - even if you started complaining about the phone as soon as you got it, the chances are a month will have elapsed by the time they put you through the hoops of a new sim, reset etc - and then it is too late to insist on a replacement phone.
In any case the replacement phone didn't resolve the issue so I have reached* a dead end. My phone fails to connect to data after having been connected to wifi - you have to do it manually each time you move away from a wifi connnection. At first I was doing it by restarting the phone, but am now following the advice of someone else who has the same problem and am going into flight mode and out again. *
This is not satisfactory, and it seems from reading forums that EE are to blame for the problem rather than Samsung, but I'm not 100% sure about that.*
Possible solution that works, for me, at the moment!
Having suffered this issue of my S5 (SM-G901F) not connecting to mobile data after being on Wi-Fi for a while unless switching airplane mode on/off for a few weeks; although it has probably been happening since the update I received late December; I have tried all of the turn this switch off, factory resets (x2), etc, etc, etc. and Googled the issue without success.
I have found this thread interesting, and I even tried calling EE support only to be told "you have tried everything that we would tell you to do" and "it wouldn't be a sim card, or handset issue, sounds like software". The reply was basically that like-it or lump it until the 5.1 update is released "by Samsung not EE because EE do not release Android updates". [Perhaps EE don't release the updates, but the stock rom is tested by them and their bloatware added before they eventually release it!!!]
Following my last reset I tried selectively re-installing the apps I used incase that was causing the issue. No Luck!
One last thing I tried was to look at every system 'thing' that I could find which used/switched any part of the mobile/mobile data/wifi - in addition to the settings I had already tried (all of which were mentioned in this thread previously). One thing I could not find not mentioned here, or anywhere, was the VoWi-Fi call on/off which I had always set to on as I do not live in a great reception area. Calling over Wi-Fi is great when you don't have a strong mobile signal.
Having 'played' with this setting for the last 24 hours I have found that the VoWi-Fi on/off appears to be a possible cure - for me anyway.:fingers-crossed:
When VoWi-Fi was set to off and leaving the phone connected to Wi-Fi overnight, the S5 immediately switched to mobile data this morning when I turned the Wi-Fi off . It continued to switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data all morning whilst out and about in and out of Wi-Fi connections - Woop Woop!!!
I then tried switching VoWi-Fi on (with Wi-Fi on and at home), leaving the phone for a number of hours, only to find that when I turned Wi-Fi off the phone refused to connect to mobile data even with a 'decent' mobile signal. The only way to get it to connect was to go back to switching Airplane mode on/off.
Switched VoWi-Fi off again, left Wi-Fi connected, left the phone for a couple of hours, etc. and hey-presto immediately switched to mobile data when I turned the Wi-Fi off. [Dances around the room because he's got the S5 automatically switching to mobile data again. Even though I'm at home with a great fibre internet and strong Wi-Fi connection!!!]
I do not know if this could be a solution for the others who are suffering from this issue, but it appears to be a solution for me at the moment. I thought I would share as your previous posts have helped me and you all seem to be pulling your hair out; like I have been; trying to find a solution.
Try it, it may work, but don't shoot me if it doesn't!
It's encouraging to know that I'm not crazy. I've had this issue across two devices and carries.
John,
Thank for your suggestion about WiFi calling. Unfortunately, I always have it off! I never used it, so maybe I should try turning it on? We'll see lol.
At this point, I think this is going to be my last Galaxy line phone.
Is it wi-fi calling that's causing the problem?
I have wondered if there is a link with wi-fi calling, but haven't tested it properly. I signed up with ee and bought the Galaxy phone specifically so that I could use wifi calling, as the town where I live (in the Scottish Borders) doesn't get a mobile signal strong to work reliably indoors from any of the networks. I'll try turning off wi-fi calling to see if that sorts the data thing (though I see that for one person above it did not). That would mean I wouldn't get calls or texts when I'm at home so it would not be a permanent solution for me. But in fact the wi-fi calling is not reliable anyway....

Brian,
You never know the way things are going with this issue; given that nobody seems to be able to pinpoint the fault; turning it on may just sort it!!!
still no change and its a pita.....
Just upgraded to the AT&T S7 Edge, keeping the same 10gb plan. Hotspot worked fine on my old phone, but on the Edge it turns off less than a second after I turn it in on. I couldn't find any solution that worked after a Google search. Any ideas of how to fix this?
Factory reset
So for future reference, I contacted AT&T via chat and was transferred to technical support. They explained:
What happens with new activations, is sometimes it needs essentially the phone equivalent of F5, a refresh to get everything operational, which is why I remotely resent your over the air activation, network, and registrations.
Whatever they did, the were able to get both my lines working with mobile hotspot again after a reboot (told me to remove sim, wipe, and reinsert as well). I had tried rebooting and pulling sim before that, so definitely something they did on their end to make it work normal again. I suspect they turn off mobile hotspot feature as default since they seem to not want it used, but who knows.
Hello all,
Got my G955N in my hands. Followed the threads here to get TWRP installed, used it to install Batman ROM, then used TWRP to flash the AT&T CSC as my provider is AT&T.
In my pull down menu I do have the option for WIFI calling, however whenever I hit it, it fails (seems I can't post pics, so here is the text I get: "Loading, this may take a few moments" then it blinks a few seconds in and repeats. Then it goes to "Please try to set up WIFI calling again later."
I know it's an issue with my phone specifically because my wife's AT&T iPhone7 has WIFI calling working fine (not an ISP issue at home) and I swapped her SIM into my phone and I still got the same error. So it's something with the phone and not likely an account level issue (although maybe? Who knows at this point?)
Also, when I enter the testing menu, I see that "Data Service: Disconnected" which I'm not sure is right? Also, VOLTE Provisioned is not selected, however each time I do select it, it immediately goes back to deselected the moment I navigate away from the testing menu. I can reselect it all day and it still goes back to deselected the moment I move out of the screen.
I've read until my eyes bleed and tried just about everything I could find to try and no joy.
Any ideas?
P.S. got pics if anyone wants me to email them to you for clarity. Guess I'm too new here to be allowed to post pics
To follow up:
Turns out it was an account based issue. Seems AT&T tries to verify the IMEI when attempting to use Wifi calling. So unless registered in the network, it isn't going to work.
And the kicker is, AT&T won't allow Wifi calling or other services with any phone they didn't sell. You can toss in your SIM and use calling, but they won't activate other features if you try to bring your own phone.
So I spent yesterday switching to T-mobile and am now fully functional with all the features of my phone working as they should. AT&T lost me as a customer.
