I can't seem to find the setting to totally disable google voice. It keeps activating when I don't want it to, and pops up with a beep and that blue screen asking for instructions....I don't need or want the ability to use voice commands of any sort, ever, and want to disable or remove both google and moto voice permanently if possible. Failing that, I'll settle for disabling them both. I've tried "Google settings> Search & Now>Voice>Ok Google Detection" but shutting it down there seems to have no effect. Anybody know how to do this?
Moto > settings (top right) > Voice > uncheck "Moto Voice"
It may be slightly different on lollipop as I am on MM, but that should get you in the right area
I dont use Moto Voice. So, I disabled it. After that, my battery life got much much better.

Does the alarm on the S5 not allow voice to turn off (stop) or snooze by voice? Not seeing the setting for some reason.

If you recall where I would appreciate a link. I have been searching and not seeing anything in the VZW forums. Perhaps they are in another S5 forum?
Thanks

Hello,
I'm starting to hate my S7 Edge, and I'm really missing my Edge 6 Plus. Has anyone else had these problems and perhaps have any advice for resolving them? I've searched around and can't find any other reports of these problems.
First, if I'm traveling, *sometimes* I can't use the Google Navigation App if I'm in motion. For example, if I'm driving home, and I decide to get gas, if I say "OK Google, navigate to the Gas Station" It will of course find a close gas station, and allow me to choose which one. After I do so, the app will plot a course, but then will fail to acquire a satellite. The app will just sit there constantly saying "Acquiring Satellite" (or something to that effect, I can't remember the exact error) but it never does find the satellite. The only fix for this is to repeatedly turn off and on the Location services, until eventually it just works. Which is extremely infuriating not to mention dangerous while driving. I rememeber falling in love with my S6 Edge Plus because it had such an easy time navigating and this S7 Edge is so consistently terrible at locating my position.
Second, this is a problem I did not know I had until today: After mis-placing my phone, I went to the Google "Find my phone" web page on my computer, to force my cellphone to ring. I have used this service before with all my other phones and it never failed to force the device to ring. But this time, my S7 did not ring. Luckilly I was able to find my phone on my own. When I did locate it, i noticed that there was an icon in the notification tray saying "Ringing phone" and yet the phone was NOT RINGING! With the phone in hand, I tried to use the webpage to locate my phone by ringing it again. The same thing happened. It put a notification up that my phone was "ringing" in the phone's notification display, but made no actual noise.
I checked the settings - > Lock Screen and Security -> Find my Mobile, and it asks me for my Samsung Account Password.
Why my samsung account? Why not google? I don't understand.
So I signed in, and google location service is set to ON, as expected. Remote controls is also set to ON. There is a notification at the bottom that says to track and control my device, go to: findmymobile.samsung
So I go there, and I tell it to ring my phone, and what do you know? It rings my phone perfectly. Noise and everything.
How do I switch it over to google's service? I really don't like most of Samsung's software offerings, and would prefer to use native google apps out of convenience. I don't remember ever having this problem with any other galaxy device. Not even my tablet does this.
Can anyone help?
I haven't had any GPS problems with mine (U.S. Sprint version). What are your location settings? Make sure it's set to use GPS, and not just network or WiFi.
Find My Mobile and Android 's service are two different things FMM is Samsung's product. To make sure Google's is active, go to Device Administrators and make sure Android Device Manager is turned on. Then go to Apps, scroll to the bottom and tap on Google, then scroll down and tap on Security. Make sure 'Remotely locate this device' (and 'Allow remote lock and erase' if you want that) are turned on.

-Android Device Manager is turned on in the Device Administrators Section.
-I am not sure how to complete the second instructions. I do not see "Apps" as an option in the Settings panels. Can you advise where to find it?
Thank you!

Scroll to bottom, tap Google (on my Sprint S7 Edge, it's the very last item).
Scroll down until you see "Security" and tap there.
The first two toggles (on mine) are "Remotely locate this device" and "Allow remote unlock and erase."

Ah, I was able to find the settings under Google, however both are already checked. Are there any other settings I need to check?
{{Edit: I toggled the setting just to test it, and now it seems to be working. I don't know why this worked, because the setting was already properly configured. But it works now. *shrug* Thank you so very much for your help and patience!}}
Glad to help. I seen lots of things get fixed when you toggle a setting. Something in the settings file got corrupted, and toggling the settings on and off rewrote what should have already been there. At least that's my guess.
ok i just switched to the V20 from moto X play edition. I loved the moto voice assistant, mostly because i could change the hotword. Is there something similar i can use on the V20

Hey there,
I have a Mate 8 Chinese version. Build Number NXT-AL10C00B592. My Phone is rooted.
My goal is to replace the HiVoice with the Google Assistant.
What I've done so far:
- Remove the HiVoice App described as here https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/how-to/how-to-replace-hivoice-vocal-assistant-t3465522/amp/
Even this was a P9 article, I gave it a try. Well.. the HiVoice is gone now.
- Installed the Google app, configured the speech assistant. In order to do this I had to set the Google Assistant as default assistant in my app settings. (apps - settings - default app - assistant - assistant-app =Google). Once this was done I was able to press the Home-Button to activate the Google Assistant. Awesome.. I thought so.. after approx. 15 minutes, it wasn't working anymore. The default assistant app was set to None..
So I thought it is maybe because of the Depp-sleep-device-idle Huawei-special-whatever.. so I tried to disable this one via adb.. works fine.. my WhatsApp messages arrive immediately, even if the app is closed.. yay, but that was not my goal..
I am at the end of my knowledge. Do you guys have any idea how to set the Google Assistant as default permanently? Maybe there is a config file that I could modify or something..
Thanks mates,
Shyarly
I'm experiencing the same problem here, and I'm also looking for solutions. I tried using Ice Box and successfully disabledthe Hivoice App. After playing around for a while Iwould say that force stopping the Google app would reset the assist app to none. I tried setting the assist app to Cortana and force closing it but the setting remains. On the other hand however, In my experience on a global model it seems the Google app (as a system app) cannot be force stopped, unless you disable and re-enable it, which also causes the assist app to be reset. maybe there's a switch that makes the google app persistent, and I hope that helps.
I seem to be able to solve this issue, but I'm on EMUI 8.1 and on P20Pro, not sure if it's suitable for your case - probably it's the same case for all recent Huawei phones (Chinese ver.) so I just post it here:
1. Go to settings > Apps & notifications > Apps > Google > Advanced > Set write system setting to "Yes".
2. On the same page, change the Google app launch to "Manage manually" and turn on Auto-launch, Secondary launch, and Run in background.
3. If you still have HiVoice installed, just turn off the write system setting permission on HiVoice in case it's overwriting the Google voice command.
I have checked in an hour or two so far, tried to restart my phone too, the default app for voice is still with Google and "OK Google" works smoothly. Still with one flaw, once you call the Google assistance, don't close/clean it otherwise the setting will be reset.
Thanks to Ronald.Cheng I have followed your first step and decided to add my own steps and so far I have been using my phone for whole day and even restare how I modified the setting.
1. Go to settings > Apps & notifications > Apps > Google > Set write system setting to "Yes".
2. Go to settings > Apps & notifications > Apps > Google > Battery > uncheck "close after the screen locked"
If it is possible, repeat 2. On assistant
I hope it works with your Huawei.
Same problem unsolved
Hello,
I have a honor note 10 (Chinese mui 8.2) and the same problem. First I struggled to install and use Google assistant and had to force enable it, and now it works until it resets itself. I followed the instructions below but I doesn't seem to do anything. Is there any way I can make Google a system app or with similar rights using adb or whatever ?

This is present on the 8 Pro too, but back also trigger home in my case ?
Does anyone know why and how to fix?
Same for me love the old one plus gesture of swiping up from the corners to go back, and this edit using the app in the article brings that back, but correct when you swipe up from corner instead of taking you back to the previous page in an app etc ,it just takes you straight to home screen .
It seems both OP gestures and a10 gestures are on simultaneously. There should be a way to disable a10 ones
I got it fully working on my 8 Pro I just need the assistant disabled it keeps popping up when I go back. I asked on the other thread (themes and apps) of the 2 button gestures control got no reply it's been a fews days. If after you set it in the app to activate then in settings, and buttons and gestures you should just see the how to on the bottom of the screen with no option to pick it but there activated

I figured with the assistant disabled on the corner I can still use the hey Google hot word. If not oh well I don't use it much enough to miss it.

Disable assistant on settings
---------- Post added at 12:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:13 PM ----------
Settings>apps& notification>default apps>assist & voice input>assist app> none
I wasn't able to disable Assistant as I have no option other than Google in the Assist & Voice input.
I found a way to disable the Assistant with the following adb command:
Code:
adb shell settings put secure assistant 0
This will remove the assistant gesture completely.
The only problem, that the setting resets after restart.
Another possible solution is to install Tasker from the Play Store and start it up.
Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Default apps > Assist & voice input > Assist app. Select Tasker and click OK.
Perform the assistant gesture and click "Stop Reminding".
Open Tasker again and in the menu on the top right just select Disable Tasker.

You can disable it through settings. Unsure of exactly where the setting is, but in settings, search for default assist.
Is it just me that despite all this tricks still ends up home when swiping for back on the right hand side?
I manage to only go back, but for that to work I need to swipe aaaal the way to the right (like on the curved part), and still there it triggers the to lines coming in from the sides and meeting up in the middle. I think this is something like a animation for the assistant.
I didn't know I was able to disable it (Google Assistant). thank you very much. Done and back to stock OnePlus gestures control. ? Much appreciated

And this option (none) as it is shown on the picture isn't shown to me. There are only Google Assistant, Firefox and a third app to choose but the option"none"is not offered. So it seems I am unable to disable the Assistant to get back the OnePlus gestures. Someone has any advice how to get it disabled?
If you follow my post to change it via the command of just change it to use Tasker, it'll work.
I don't have to option to select nothing either, but with the ADB command, you can force it, until a restart and this method will disable the gesture completely. If you decide to use tasker, the gesture will stay there, so you'll see the lines going from the corners towards the middle, but no action to8 be performed.

Yeah I have the same problem in apps and notifications / default apps./ Assist. On previous devices this is where I disabled the assistant, but the option none isn't here. The one found if searching for "default assist" is somewhere else, I think somewhere in Google settings as the background color changes to a lighter one.

Hello, is this still possible with the new Android 11 update? I just tried the op_gesture_button_side_enabled and it only sort of works, I can disable google assistant with adb however swipe up from the bottom side triggers both back and home action now.. Anyone solved this problem?
