Hi
My phone doesn't ring some tines! It just vibrates. I had set it to custom Ringtone and now set it back to a default Ringtone.. And it still doesn't ring.
Anyone else face this issue?
I did a safe restart and then it worked. So I realised its one of the apps..so I uninstalled them one by one and lo..it worked. So I installed the app and just denied permission to the phone..since then the app continues to work and my phone rings.

Me too. After changing the ringtone, it only works on the first call and no ringing sounds for calls afterwards. Any help would be appreciated

What app was it?
Boot in safe mode and check if the ringer works. If it does..means it's not a hardware problem. Most of the time it's coz of a software.. I had downloaded an app for prayer times which we causing the problem.
It's usually a Settings App permissions to your internal storage where the custom ringtone sounds are.

Here's how you reboot the 6P into safe mode:
Nexus 6P Safe Mode
Have Your Nexus 6P Powered on and at the Home Screen
Then Press and Hold the Power Button
When You See the ‘Power Off’ Dialog Screen Pop Up, Let Go of the Power Button
Then Tap and Hold Your Finger on the “Power Off’ Option
After Holding for a Few Seconds You’ll be Asked if You Want to Reboot Into Safe Mode
Simply Tap the ‘OK’ Option to Reboot Your Nexus 6P Into Safe Mode
Then Wait for the Nexus 6P to Reboot

After rebooting in safe mode and checking to make sure the ring tone was working (it was) and the volume was up, I called my phone but it didn't ring.
This is getting frustrating.
I did notice an error message that said the Google Play app wasn't working.
Wonder if this is causing the problem?
Your speakers work while playing music?
Maybe a hard reset will work..

The speakers work fine as well as my Plantronics bluetooth headset
I changed ringtones this morning. The first and second incoming call, the ringer worked fine. Not so with the third, fourth, and fifth calls. But on the sixth call, lo and behold, it worked again. But not so on calls after that. I didn't know someone called me until I saw the Google Voice notification about a voicemail.
Very puzzled and perplexed

Try checking and unchecking increasing volume a few times in the settings then. If that does not fix the problem you might be able to try wiping all data to do with the phone and sound settings in Settings > Applications..
It was doing it even when new out of the box though, and also when I first installed XXUAMDN, so it's definitely not an app issue or anything. Tried toggling the increasing volume toggle several times too.

you cant, but i dont know if you can when it is rooted
I'm rooted, so if anyone knows then feel free to share!
This S4 is my first Android phone and i was wandering this also as my phone has always done that for about the first 2 seconds which ive found very strange, never found a way to change it either.
I've had several android phones, but this is the first to do it.
My previous note 2 and the wife's s3 don't he same (as well as my s4).
Unsure if it's an android thing or Samsung thing.
I think it's so the phone ringing when your not expecting it doesn't frighten the living daylights out of you!
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
It's definitely not an android thing, otherwise my previous 3 phones would have all done it too and I'd already have had a 5 year head start on learning how to stop it!
Right, just found it's a Samsung and LG thing. Seems you can edit the secphone.apk if you're rooted, or alternatively you can download an app called "disable increased ring" from the play store. With this app you get a persistent notification that it's running, but then if you go into application manager you can disable notifications for it. I tried the app and it works, no root access or custom rom needed.

Thanks, just found an app that disables it anyway. What a stupid "feature".
I have this exact same problem on my s3 mini. So it's deffo a Samsung thing... Thanks for posting different solutions
"Disable Increasing Ring" app works fine so far.
Hi!
After updating to 7.1.1. I have had issues with "Alarms Only" turns itself on.
I know there is a new function in the phone app who turns on alarms only when you are in a phonecall. And naturally it should turn alarms only off when the phonecall is ended.
But that is not the case, many times the alarms only stays on after call.
I just made a call with my bluetooth handsfree. When I made the call, I could se the alarms only icon appear.
When I ended the call, I watched the screen. Right after the call was ended the alarms only icon dissapeard for 0.5 seconds, and then it turned itself back on!!
This is very annoying.
Do any of you guys experience this problem or heard about it?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards

See if you still have the problem while booted into safe mode.

It's a software bug report it to Google
Has this issue been fixed? Everytime I make a call it turns on alarms only. It also makes the other person unable to hear me.

missed a bunch of phone calls and texts today, discovered all ringtones and notifications were dead. in Settings, confirmed that all volumes were up, Airplane mode was off, etc. the crazy thing: on the ringtones / notifications screens, clicking on any/all of them produced no sound. none of them worked. and strangely, playing music or videos or youtube still worked fine.
rebooted and everything is working again, for now.
ugh. it happened again. missed a bunch of calls in the last two hours, and also the courier at my front door.
but it's unpredictable: earlier this morning i got a text message notification. but after that ... nothing. phone did not ring, but when i checked the ringtones and notifications and contacts, they all seemed to work.
anyone else have this happen?

smart settings have not been activated. but Gestures > Silence incoming call / Flip phone to silence incoming call was ON. turned it off, will see if there's any change ...
something definitely wonky. might try another reset. again, this issue is intermittent / unpredictable:
took phone calls this morning at 7:53am and 8:00am. when i checked the call log, i saw that i missed an incoming call at 7:47am -- and the voicemail notification -- before these other calls.
concerning ...

I'm facing the same issue. Miss a lot of calls/text/alarms every day. I don't know when it's going to happen. A restart fixes it. I'll tell you what I've observed till now:
1. Can happen anytime. The sound will stop coming from speakers/headphones.
2. A reboot will fix it
3. Phone not on silent. Face down silent setting Off. Answer incoming call setting Off.
4. Notification/ringtone/system volume at max
5. No sounds, except for music, will come from the speakers
6. I put the phone on vibrate. Connected headphones. Called myself. There was a very very faint ringtone coming through the headphones.
Reverted to sound mode. Called again. No sound anywhere. Not from the speaker. Not from headphones.
7. Called LG customer care. They couldn't fix it.
I'm 100% sure that this is a software issue as a reboot fixes it. It might be because of a third party app. I've put my phone in safe mode to check if the issue resurfaces. Will inform on it after 24 hours of testing.
If anyone gets any solution please report.

And I tried the factory reset also... Didn't work.
probably related to one of the 26 apps you debloated...
Does anybody face this bug" notification sound automatically go into the vibration mode, restart to get everything back to normal"??i tried cear partition cache but didn't help this method..help plz
I also have the same issue. In my case, notification sound or ring comes from earpiece speaker instead of main speaker so it's too low to be heard. Not sure about the root cause. Reboot definitely helps but quick way to fix it is to call any number(like 111) and hang up after putting it on speaker. Is anyone else facing the same issue?
I can confirm that notification/call ringtone goes silent automatically in v323 also. DND is not activated and no power saving module/mod is enabled. This is an annoying bug and frequently causes me to miss important calls and notifications
Same here.
I solved my problem this way..i dont know if it will work for you friends..
Step 1 download the zedge app from playstore
Step 2 download the htc reactive notification tone
Step 3 set it via phone setting but select zedge app
I dont have the call ringtone problem i set "RING 1"
check it guys ..and tell me if it is working or not?
Thanks. sorry for bad english!

Didn't work for me. Do you guys have any smartwatch connected via Bluetooth? I do and may be it is the root cause of this issue?
I think this issue definitely has something to do with Samsung gear S3. Whenever I turn off and back on the Bluetooth, issue appears to be gone for few hours.
Guys i think the new 326 update fixed this issue..whats say?
I still have this issue but it's not so frequent now. It comes back in 2-3 days after reboot.
Issue is there. Randomly no notification. 326

I experience it too. But in my case, I don't have to restart the phone, only turn it back to ring mode works to fix it although only temporarily.
It happens randomly, if I'm not using my phone for about 15 minutes, not always happen but randomly, occasionally happen.
I don't have any smartwatch apps or alike installed, but I'll check for other apps that might causing it.
I wish whether it's a bug from Asus or mistake from my side, it can be fixed somehow, because it's annoying.
Still looking for the solution.

UPDATE: SOLVED (A long ago actually, sorry I just write this now)
An app caused it. It has to do with timer and notification sound triggering at some preset times a day.
After I uninstall the app, all is OK.
Hey guys, I am too facing the issue. But root cause seems to be this.. When I open any app that gives some audio output, n I immediately try to reduce the volume. Somehow the ringer volume also goes down along with media. N after this whenever I press the volume rocker, it doesn't work on ringer volume but on media volume. Once I restart it works fine but same thing repeats if I do what I mentioned.
Hi guys anyone experience after the update or Android become Android 8.0 my phone do not have signal anymore
I've had my Mi A1 for over a year now and have almost always had it on vibrate, so all calls/notifications cause the phone to vibrate, but any media that gets played will be at the volume set for media.
Over the past couple of weeks though, notifications (not sure about calls, don't get many of them) will play the notification sound at the volume set for media. I can only get them to shut off if I mute the media volume. I've tried changing the volume for both media and ringing, and restarting the device, but to no avail. I either have to leave it muted and miss notifications, or leave it unmuted and get a jumpscare each time (it also plays notifications when I'm on a call, and you can imagine the jumpscare I get with my phone at my ear and a sudden loud notification).
I recently started using Bose QC35 ii headphones through Bluetooth with my phone, but I don't think that has anything to do with it because it was working fine with them before.
I've searched Google for this kind of issue but couldn't find anything other than standard instructions on adjusting the volume. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this (without doing a full reset of the phone, hopefully)?
EDIT: this is a stock ROM, I've never flashed anything new on it

So I solved this by going into Settings > Accessibility > Vibration and turning Ring & notification vibration off, restarting, and then on again. I was able to use the Pushy app to send test notifications so that I didn't have to wait for a friend to send me a message or something of the sort. My vibration mode now works as intended (not sure about calls, I don't know how I can test those without having a friend call me), and loud notifications according to the volume set for the ringer.
So as it turns out, today I once again got sound notifications, despite having set my phone to vibrate only. What could be resetting the sound profile like this (note that the ringer volume is still at zero) that the notifications play sound at the media volume? Anyone have any idea on this?

Why not just set them individually, it won't take long, when I first got my A1 I did just this.
Each time I got a notification I just pulled down and pressed the notification and customised it, most I turned off, the rest I either set to vibrate, a custom sound or left as it was.
Calls are easy to take care of, set ring volume to zero and it only vibrates.
For me:
I want a sound when I get a SMS.
I want a custom sound when I get a call.
I want no notification of gmail, (it would be going off constantly)
I only want Vibrate from WhatsApp messages.
Can't think of others but I think everything else is silenced.
If that is no good try "Volume butler" which will add a seperate volume control for notifications, not used it myself but it should do the trick: https://www.guidingtech.com/separate-ringtone-notification-volume-android/

The only downside of doing them individually is that I can't turn them all back on with one setting, as on some infrequent occasions I do want to hear them because I be expecting a message and not necessarily feel the phone in my pocket. and it seems I have to wait for the actual notification to come up? (can't seem to find the setting under the standard notifications settings menu).
I'll have a look at Volume butler, but it sure is disappointing that this would break when it was a nice feature to use.

You're welcome, and seems that possibly if you unpair your BT device and reboot, you could get your notifications back to normal, but then you don't have your headset available...
Since the issue started outside of a system update, there is a chance it was introduced by a Google App or Play Services update, in which case hopefully Google will fix it soon since it's affecting a lot the Pixel phones.

Ah, I forgot to mention that I have a workaround for this that I came across in one of the dicussions somewhere. Inside Settings > Google > Search, Assistant & Voice > Notifications I can turn off notifications for Google completely. I've also turned off Google Assistant under Settings > Google > Search, Assistant & Voice > Google Assistant. I don't remember which of those actually resulted in the behavior not returning, but I'm pretty sure I don't need either, so I'm OK with it for now. (actually, do Google Security notifications come under the Google app or some other one?)
PS: reboot is actually not necessary, it seems force stopping Google Assistant or Google resets the notification settings (but yes, I want my headset hahaha).
Seems it's been fixed by Google: https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/...s-with-duplicate-alerts-and-ignored-settings/
