Stuck in a boot loop. Flashed drews latest ICS build. Was in Market when the phone just rebooted. It loops at the first HTC EVO 4G screen. Then it just keeps looping and restarting. I can load into bootloader. When I select Recovery, it just boot loops. I had Amon_RA installed. I tried flashing recovery again via fastboot but still nothing. Currently rooted with Revolutionary. help
Got it unrooted. Got S-On, going to try and flash the stock pc36img with the latest ota radio/recovery and all the good stuff.

I don't recommend flashing the latest OTA. That has the new HBOOT, which can't be rooted as easily as the previous versions. I would flash 4.54 or older, unlock with unrevoked or Revolutionary, and then you can update your radios, etc afterwards.
Dont Upgrade
I agree do not do the latest OTA.
I used to have a stock PC36IMG.zip that would fix that problem for you.
It has happened to me with a couple of Evo's at work.
If I find it I will post a link to it.
I personally wouldn't run an RUU I like flashing through bootloader better.
well still does the same thing. at least it is s-on now so I can just go to the sprint store.
Wow! Sorry to hear that. But I'll bet working with Cap'n you could get it up and running again without going to Sprint.

went to the sprint store. they were unable to fix it so they will be ordering a new one. i am able to get into bootloader. since i flashd the latest ota when unrooting it, i went thru the steps to unlock it using htcdev.com. i now show it unlocked, flashed amon via fastboot, but when i select recovery, it still goes into bootloop. any other ideas? i really cant wait until wednesday to get a new phone.
When you select recovery it goes into a bootloop? Have you made sure the recovery md5 is good and then do the recovery as PC36IMG thru hboot/bootloader

yeah. tried both amon and cwm. after they flash, i select recovery, it goes to the htc evo 4g white screen then just boot loops. i also saved it to the sd root as a pc36img and flashed thru hboot. says successful but same results. im stumped lol.

Try fastboot erase boot and fastboot erase data -w and user data then reflash your recovery(those will erase it). Then boot your recovery from pc cd. Format everything once more in recovery and try reflashing something I would recomend something stock/rooted.
Also if that build is based off new firmware which since it was ics it probably was it could of corrupted one of your partitions if you were still on old firmware.
Missed the part that you were s on now those commands might not work anymore.

Fastboot erase is not possible since it is no longer rooted. When i try to use this command, i get an error that it cannot be done. Can you elaborate more on the booting recovery from pc cd? If I can get recovery, I can unroot the device completely and flash a new rom and format everything.
Edit: C:\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot erase boot

C:\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot erase data -w

That is what happens when I run the commands mentioned.
If you used HTC unlock method to do what your doing now there should be a disc image of the recovery you wanna use. (Sorry im not using my og anymore haven't looked at recoveries in a minute). But if you take the recovery img put it in your platform tools folder. Then send command fastboot boot recovery.img(name it that to make it easy). You can flash it that way too fastboot flash recovery recovery.img Since you have s on now the fastboot erase boot is not gonna work unless u achieve s-off again. However you can try to flash the boot/kernel via fasfboot and then boot to recovery and flash the ROM.

That is how I was flashing it. I went thru the htc steps to unlock the bootloader, when I get to the step to flash the recovery, i downloaded the recovery provided in the steps on this site, flashed via fastboot but still a boot loop. I confirmed the MD5 matched. Also tried the pc3img file available, saved to root but still a no-go. Might just be a lost cause. I read somewhere else that everything tried still resulted in a boot loop. Just gonna file a claim and pay $100 for the Evo 3D

You can't really go wrong there. It's well worth the money to upgrade. As far as the commands go you may have been able to save it if you were able to keep s-off and tried formatting thebpartitions that way. I had a similiar issue on an EVO 3d. Have you tried to RUU?

Yeah. Tried the last 2 4.54 OTA and the latest OTA. That is why I had to resort to the htc root attempt. I had ran those commands when i was still s-off, but a no go. Just gonna consider it a loss. Thanks anyways.

From bootloader. Saved it as PC36IMG to my sdcard root, it recognized it, flashed it and said OK on all items (radio, recovery, and so on) then when asked to reboot, I select yes but goes into boot loop. Gonna file a claim tomorrow and hope that E3D offer is still going on from the insurance company for $100.

The ROM update utility will probably fix it. I thought that was how you ended up with s-on. The ruu will format ALL the partitions in particular the ones you can't touch now. That's definatly the way to go. I hate to say it cause this is probably driving you nuts now. But I'm almost positive that will fix it and if it doesn't your phone had some sort of hardware failure and it was its time anyway. Ps with the 3vo cross your fingers and toes and hope you get hboot 1.4 or 1.3

If you have the factory image, from Google (and nowhere else), just run the flash-all.bat file. You "may" have to unlock your bootloader prior to running it if you haven't already, and you'll need to have the device in fastboot mode prior to running the batch file too, but once those 2 simple tasks are done, the batch file takes care of the rest.
If your using a toolkit or some other method for flashing a factory image, I suggest stopping, and just doing the above.
This forum is not for any threads for questions... this needs to go to General or Q/A... just download the factory image from Google, reboot into fastboot and run the flash-all script... you don't need to be unlocked...

If im on 4.2 and my device fails to update to 4.2.1, saying me error on recovery, should I only unzip the image from google, put my n10 on fastboot mode and run the flash all script as you said? Will this erase my data? Im just root, haven't unlocked my bootloader.

same question
I've unlocked & rooted & the OTA fails trying to flash the recovery (trying to flash from twrp, duh, can't overwrite).
How should I go about updating the system w/o wiping out everything I already have?
If I fastboot flash_image system will it only overwrite changes to my system partition & leave my data & apps alone?
I've got OTA Root Keeper installed, so I'm hopeful even if I lose root I can get it back easy enough (either way, no biggie; can always reroot, ain't no thang).
tia for any advice.
edit: f-bomb... no 4.2.1 img available for N10 yet...

Nexus 10 hasn't gotten the (JOP40D) images yet which means the only way to get the 4.2.1 update is to get an OTA. Whatever images for 4.2.1 on the Nexus 10 are fake because Google hasn't even released them yet.

I already have stock recovery... it's not about the recovery, I think it's because i put aosp browser instead of the default one, and when ota check system/apps, it finds something has changed. Also may be due to the root?

Maybe you should just flash one of the updated stock/rooted roms in the dev section.
I was able to flash an EVGA ROM successfully and also Shaky156's CWM recovery. Primary reason was to get rid of Chinese notifications completely. Problem is that I cannot get the 1.1 OTA update to install because of the CWM recovery. I tried to flash stock recovery via fastboot but was not successful. Tried different versions even the BAT_CWM_recovery but it won't accept any except Shaky's version. Also tried the Super Tool but it won't recognize the tablet. I have previously installed the SDK and can get fastboot to run. Will try version 1.5 if it works.

Always erase the partition beforehand.
fastboot erase boot
then... as an example
fastboot flash boot boot.img
or

Make sure you are cautious never to loose fastboot ability. Other words if your bootloader can't be obtained from restarting and hold buttons down, then make sure you don't restart till you get a successful flashing. Always have the system ADB enabled and certified with the computer.

Did what you said but still no stock recovery installed. When I reboot after erasing the old recover and flashing the stock instead of going to recovery it just boots up. Looks like the recovery never gets flashed. I did check if the tablet is being recognized by the computer before any flashing. After flashing the stock recovery it says okay so I don't know what's happening.

Yes, tablet is unlocked. Says so when I boot into the bootloader. I have flashed Shaky's CWM and it installed fine. Don't know why the tablet does not like the stock recovery. Even tried BAT-cwm recovery but also failed to install. I'll just have to wait for someone to come up with a flashable ROM if the Kitkat update comes around.

Do your best to get Bat_recovery for the recovery parititon and the 4.3.1 boot.img for the boot partition, shared on my Tegra Note Discoveries thread. Never flash the bootloader partition unless you are really know what you're doing. Then possible flash the system partition with Tom's system.img with;
fastboot erase system
fastboot flash system system.img
Tom's image should patch and is an English styled setup so you get all the Google Apps, etc.

Here's what I did:
1. Erased the system and flashed the 4.3plus system zip.
2. Erased the boot image and flashed the 4.3plus boot image.
3. Erased the recovery and flashed the bat recovery.
4. Rebooted and got stuck on the Tegra Note screen. (flashing on and off).
Tried to experiment and flashed another boot image and this time got stuck on the Tegra Note screen but this time it was not flashing on and off. Turned it off but nothing happened, Pressed the key combination to boot to the bootloader mode but failed. I thought I bricked it and then tried to go the the apx mode and was successful. This time I pressed the bootloader key combination and thankfully was successful. I thought I bricked the tablet.
Is there a way to flash the 4.2.2 ROM? Read somewhere that someone flashed the old ROM and the stock recovery. Once done he was able to update to 4.3plus. I thought there was a flashable 4.2.2 ROM at rootjunky.com but when I clicked on the link I got an error message saying that the file does not exist. I asked the poster where he got the ROM and recovery but never got a reply.

I've managed to flash a 4.2.2 ROM (tried the deodex version first) but not the stock recovery. Funny thing is that only Shaky156's version can be flashed. The big problem with the ROM is that there's no wifi and that sucks big time. It means I can't update the the firmware. Will try to flash the odex version and see the wifi works. There's no access to the files too. Good thing the bluetooth works.

The no wifi problem is endemic of a broken/mismatched boot.img to system version. Get an original (eg EVGA version) boot.img not a modified rooted version, since SuperSU sideloaded will give proper root later on top of an original boot.img.
I have boot.img shared on Tegra Note Discovery thread.
Try using rootjunkie supertool and get new kit kat or flash another ROM very easy to use

No luck. I tried what e8hfff suggested but still got no wifi. I used to have a Korean version of the Galaxy S3 and I could flash the modded ROMS made for the international version only if it is converted. Some guy came up with a converter and you flash it after you have flashed the modded ROM. We might have to get something similar if we want to flash EVGA ROMs.
Right now I'm not that concerned with getting the Kitkat update since there's something wrong with it (write to SD card). Once they have come up with an update to correct the bug then I'll give it another try. SO for now, I'll stick to the 4.3 ROM.

I have a rooted 6P running the stock rom on the February security update with a bunch of Xposed modules and the Franco kernel. I know I won't get OTAs this way. Can I just flash the March security patch (MMB29V) and do nothing else? Or do I have to wipe data or factory reset? Do I have to do anything with the Franco kernel?
For the future, what would I need to do to flash Android N when it comes out on my rooted phone? Thanks a bunch!

Most likely you cannot. An OTA update will do a check on your system and see that you have modified things and terminate install. You can leave your data alone but you will have to flash your boot and system partitions with the factory image

Don't flash the entire factory image or you will lose data. / only the boot and system images to their respective partitions. Once you complete that you can Flash the OTA update zip file and you will still have your data you can extract the boot and system images from the main factory image you download from Google using WinRAR

It's easier to just flash all of the images (except userdata) top to update, rather than flashing two and then messing around with OTA.
So is there anyway to flash the update without losing my data/apps??
Thanks!

Yep. Probably would be a good idea to wipe data and the caches in TWRP first.
i used fastboot to install march update on my nexus 6p but now when trying to install twrp through fastboot it during writing it says permission denied. why is this?

Can you provide a screenshot of your attemp to flash the recovery? Also you might want to try opening the command prompt as administrator, right click on the command window in start menu and select open as administrator.

Not at all a good idea @Heisenberg, as I just experienced. We were talking about keeping the apps and system as it was. Just wiped data and got an hardreset.
Clear cache only.

Where did you say that? I know that wiping data will remove apps, but it's the right way to go about it to ensure no problems occur.

Surely you were aware that wiping data was going to remove your apps? So all you needed to do was back them up first and restore them after you flashed. Apologies if I should have made that clear in my previous posts.
No problem. It was my stupid mistake.:good:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-angler-angler-02.45.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 5
fastboot flash radio radio-angler-angler-02.50.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 5
fastboot update image-angler-mmb29v.zip
Normally in the last line there is an option "-w" this wipes the data.
Don't do that and modify the script so the option is gone, like I did.
Uh, my phone just downloaded a system update of some sort, but I haven't installed it. Is this supposed to happen on a phone that's rooted and on the stock ROM? Can I install it safely or should I still flash the factory image instead?
And @Heisenberg, in your guide do you type in all the fastboot commands at once or do you do it line by line? Thanks again, your guide is super useful for rooting noobs like me

Don't install it, it'll fail, you must flash the factory images. Each command is entered individually (press enter key to send the command), wait for flash to finish then enter the next command.

To my knowledge you need to decrypt phone then flash N and before boot flash decrypt boot img then boot twrp then flash super su 2.71. To be decrypted rooted N.
Now to begin that process you need a decrypted phone which is why i am waiting for m decrypt boot begore i proceed.
Tigerstown can correct me if i am wrong.

Yes, you can use this method to decrypt your 5X.
To begin, make sure that you have backed up everything on your internal storage, since everything will be removed. It will basically be like a fresh start.
Boot your 5X into bootloader mode and connect it to the PC.
Flash the modified boot.img (The one you have downloaded from above):
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
After that is done, decrypt your 5X:
Code:
fastboot format userdata
fastboot format cache

No bootloop guarantee, until you do something different than this. :victory:

This is exactly what I was just going to reply. If your on N flash boot.IMG and decrypt using fastboot like said above.
Awesome Im running android m with force encryption removed (fed patcher).
I want to upgrade it to N without loosing data : I think I have to flash THIS boot, recovery, Bootloader, vendor, cache, and system image files. I'm not flashing Userdata instead.
Is it right for having android N devrypted?

Yes, perfectly alright. Avoid the recovery image, in case you have TWRP installed.

that is How I do it on my 6P. After flashing I boot to twrp and do factory reset myself. You don't need to flash the N recovery.

Many thanks @Tigerstown !!
This DP2 is actually really nice. I tried it with encryption, had a couple of bugs, but now unencrpyted, everything runs pretty smoothly and no bugs so far.
Love the new ergonomy improvements... no root needed anymore.

Op has been updated added MM MCH19q support. Still have to work on sepolicy for system root on 5x like I have it for 6P. Once I get it right I'll update with that.

Should have time tomorrow after work to get that done. Should is the key word ????. You feel like testing for me when I do? I have no 5X or I would of course do it myself. Lol
