I downloaded s6 rom for s5 from here but its .exe I want any method or app to change it for .md5 so I can install from odin to my s5
You didn't download the ROM if it is an exe, probably downloaded some crapware downloader from the file sharing site
Check there is no checkbox under the download that says something along the lines of "Use our downoader etc"

That thread says the rom is for installation via recovery.....so you won't be needing Odin or a tar.md5 file anyway.
You *should* have downloaded a .zip file.
Did you extract the file you downloaded? If you did, you shouldn't have.....
If you didn't, you *somehow* got the wrong file.......

A lot of members are facing difficulties when trying to root the newer LP based firmwares......
There is a method that uses CF Root and a *specific* version of TWRP.......
@"Detection" would be better at helping here.....wait until he replies and see what he says.....
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg
No need for Root, just flash TWRP 2.8.7.0 with ODIN
It has to be 2.8.7.0
https://dl.twrp.me/klte/
Leave it as .Tar and flash it from the AP or PDA section in ODIN
Once you have TWRP installed, copy the .zip ROM to your MicroSD card, and flash it from TWRP recovery
No need for CF Root then?......
Good to know.....

Nah, flashing TWRP gives you custom recovery, and from there TWRP can flash anything, it doesn't rely on the OS at all in recovery, in fact, you can flash TWRP or any other recovery, from download mode, with no ROM installed at all
That's why, so long as you can access download mode, you can unbrick, even if everything, recovery and ROM, are 100% wiped clean / gone - download mode is hard coded, unless you physically break the phone, you should always be able to access it no matter what you've done firmware side
Only time you need root, is if you need to change/access system files from inside of Android itself

Alot of post in rom asking for wipe every what do they mean with that do they wipe cache partition or data factory reset or there is another type of wipe on custom recovery ?
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app
Wipe everything apart from external storage when you're changing ROMs (Probably OK leaving Internal storage alone too)
Cache, Dalvik Cache, System, Data
Then flash ROM & Gapps
Reboot
---
If you are switching ROMs of the same Android version (Custom to Custom), you might get away with not wiping Data, but if it hangs at "Starting Apps", then you'll have to wipe Data too
Caches = Temp
System = ROM
Data = User Apps & settings
Internal storage = Music, Photos etc

Ah....I get you....For example if (like me) you stay with stock but use TiBu to debloat, or change the values of an XML file to increase system volume with root explorer.....
My bad....I've never modified my devices and not gone down the rooting path beforehand, so I mistakenly assumed root was *always* required........
That's what I enjoy about XDA......

Yep exactly, root just gives you & apps root (Read/Write) access and permissions to the system files, which are otherwise locked down with no access to anyone or anything other than the OS itself
So for things like TiBU, that app needs R/W access / permissions on those files to do it's job, without root, it can't touch system files at all

If it's a system file (XML) you can't without root, unless possibly you can sideload it from recovery, but I'm not here to help with a tablet, this is the S5 forum - if you need to root the S5, follow instructions above
If you need help with your tablet, go to that tablets forum and ask in there
If you're doing it 'on device' you can't.....
These files are usually located in the root directory which is a 'read only' partition.
You can't change this directory to 'rewritable' without root access.....

You will need the stock kernel and your /system partition must be completely unmodified. Bootloader state and recovery don't matter. After accepting an update you will lose your custom recovery and root, so you will have to reflash but that's no big deal.

You have to flash both system and boot, plus do a full data and cache wipe. As long as you do that and you don't let root apps modify files on your /system partition, the update should install fine. Also, keep in mind that when you get the OTA notification on your phone, you cannot just select "Restart and Install" if you have ClockworkMod recovery. OTAs will only auto flash if you have stock recovery. If you're using ClockworkMod recovery, you'll have to pull the OTA file out of your /cache folder and put it on internal storage somewhere, then flash it manually in ClockworkMod.

Correct. Just extract system.img and boot.img from the package you download, then plug your tablet into USB, boot it into the bootloader, and do the following two commands:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
If you want to wipe data, also do:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
That'll get you back to complete stock.

Extract them to your desktop somewhere, then do fastboot from the command prompt.

Did you use the JOP40C factory images downloaded from the Google website somewhat recently? That error is caused when you flash the original set of JOP40C images released when the Nexus 10 first came out. There was a bug in them that Google fixed. They posted new images. You can download them at http://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images or http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-10/mantaray.
Also, what I mean about root apps modifying /system files...so there are a lot of root apps out there that make tweaks to your system...stuff like making changes to your GPS config files for quicker lock-on, you yourself going in and deleting unwanted apps out of /system/app, you or an app making changes to build.prop, installing busybox in the wrong place and having it overwrite system commands with its own...things like that. If you or any app make any change whatsoever to any file anywhere on /system, an OTA will fail every time. It checks the hash of each and every file before applying the update and if a single one of them doesn't match what it expects, the OTA will fail. So just keep that in mind.
But that error you're getting about set_perm is most definitely caused by using the original, bad set of images that Google put out there. Download them again, try again and you should be in business.

flashing stock firmware does not unlock the phone!
and you dont unlock the bootloader like you do a htc phone - the zips contains the bootunlock file when you flash them in galaxy y
never flash the boot loader in odin - you will be at high risk of damaging your phone if you get it wrong
use dokys glaxy toolbox to remove carrier lock

Ok, here goes. As I started I twice attempted to root my new S5 using Odin 3 and CF-Auto Root MD5 file. It seemed to work both times except for the fact that I ended up in a boot-loop both times. Had to use a factory image with Odin 3 to get back to my phone being usable. I used Wugs on my Nexus 4 and never once crashed it. This just blows me away. The only thing I can think of that might have worked against me was the fact that I had Titanium Backup and super User left over from my Nexus 4 when I transferred my apps over with Smart Transfer??? If anyone has a solution as to why this Canadian version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 keeps boot looping upon completion of the Odin 3 running the proper, yes proper Canadian CF Auto Root kltecan-kltevl-smg9-00w8.tar.md5. This has got me baffled because this is supposed to be the easiest way according to what I've read. Could there be another way that is easier and not so prone to the boot loop? If so please direct me to it or clue me in. Thanks people!!!

This method has been tried and tested with a good measure of success.

How does using TWRP root the phone? Isn't that just another form of recovery? When I had my Nexus 4 super user came after the phone was rooted. I don't get that way of rooting at all. I don't understand how TWRP roots the phone. Is there another way at all?
I'll try that link again......

But basically, you flash TWRP and then from TWRP you flash SUPERSU which will give you a rooted device with a custom recovery......
The reason I mentioned it is because fewer people are having issues with this method than with CF Root. ....

Where does the custom recovery come from? Super SU? I was reading in a forum here at XDA that there had to be a patched kernel installed and flashed first.
The custom recovery is twrp......
It's twrp that you have to have in order to flash the superSU zip which is what gives you root.......you can't flash superSU in stock recovery......

It's done. Thank you so much for your time and patience. If and when Marshmallow becomes available am I going to have to reset the whole thing and reroot it to apply the system update? If so how will that be done on a rooted S5?

There is an app by Chainfire called Flashfire.......
This app will allow you to upgrade while keeping root.....don't know whether it's ready for MM yet....or even if the S5 will get official MM......
Time will tell I guess.....

After installing Titanium Backup and TWRP in the proper folders to get root I have been trying to use Titanium Backup to do a backup and keep getting a prompt saying there is insufficient free storage space on my phone which there is plenty. Now I remember when I was flashing Ti Bac through TWRP after it was done I got a prompt that said " my phone doesn't appear to be rooted at this ttime but if I wished to installit I could" something to that effect but I remember reading that if TWRP offered to flash Ti Bac a second time not to let it. I rebooted the phone and it had root, but why would it say or offer to install Ti Backup again from TWRP and why am I getting this error or prompt while trying to do a backup with Ti Backup? This "insufficient space prompt seems to be a fairly common error within Ti Backup but I have been unable to rectify the mess. No backups even after changing the directory. I hope you can help or refer this to someone who can.

In this post, are you sure you aren't confusing Titanium Backup with SuperSU?.......
Titanium Backup (TiBu) has nothing to do with obtaining root access.....The only relationship it has with root is the inability to use it's features fully *without* root......
(quote.....After installing Titanium Backup and TWRP in the proper folders to get root.....)
(quote...... after it was done I got a prompt that said " my phone doesn't appear to be rooted at this ttime but if I wished to installit I could......)
You would see this message in TiBu (or something similar to this message) if you hadn't completed the root process by flashing SuperSU.
(quote.....TWRP offered to flash Ti Bac....)
????.....TWRP flashing TiBu?....this is the first time I've ever heard of this....
TiBu is an app....pure and simple.....installed by android package installer.....direct from playstore.....don't know how TWRP would come in to play here.
(quote..... keep getting a prompt saying there is insufficient free storage space on my phone.....)
This *is* possible.....it depends on...
1) How many apps you have installed.
2) how much media (movies, videos, music, pictures) you have stored on the internal storage of your device.
Space will also be taken up by the backups that TiBu creates......
It creates it's backup directory by default on internal storage (sdcard0) and this directory *can* contain hundreds of apps and app data files....All of which takes up space. When I was using TiBu on my S2, I frequently experienced this, but not so far on my S5.....Both devices are 16gb variants, so I guess it's only a matter of time.....unless I get really ruthless and keep what is stored on sdcard0 to an absolute minimum......

I finally got the Titanium backup to work. I went to the Super User app and unchecked the mount namespace. That is what was holding me back from making a backup without the interruptions. Now with that said I am still not sure if my backups can be put on my ext. sd card. It appears that it's unwriteable. Does that seem right to you? If so is there a way to change it. If not I guess they will be going to my internal storage. Can you tell me how to get the most complete backup using Titanium Backup? Is it with Data and apps. That does everything?
You can make a zip of your TiBu backups that can be flashed in a custom recovery......this zip can contain all your user installed apps *and* their data....this might very well include profile data and passwords.....but I don't know for sure.
This backup zip needs to be treated with caution though......
If you create the zip from a backup you made on (for example) KitKat, and then tried to apply/flash it on to a Lollipop rom, you could find yourself trying to use apps that will continually force close and facing other system instability as well.
This is because the data generated and used by *some* apps is android version specific.
Creating a zip from ONLY the apps (but not their data) will generally not cause problems......
As for the external storage being unwriteable.....it may be that a setting in TWRP is responsible for this.....i'm pretty sure I've read about that somewhere, though again, I can't be sure.....

Android N Preview 5 beta npd90g (flashable & image, no encryption & dm verification)
** DISCLAIMER: APPLY AT YOUR OWN RISK **** The following are instructions for installing Android N Preview 5 image released by Google on 7/18/2016. After the installation you will have TWRP recovery 3.0.2-0 with the data partition erased and unencrypted if you use method 2 **Always backup your data before flashing something a total stranger gives you!
Method 1: Flash update through TWRP recovery (keeps your data and current recovery)
1- You need to have TWRP 3.0.2-0 or higher installed on your phone.
2- Download this flashable zip.
3- Copy to the phone internal storage and flash via recovery.
4- Reboot. Your data should still be intact and your OS is upgraded to N Preview 5 beta. If your internal storage is unencrypted before flashing it remains unencrypted.
Method 2: Flash update using a computer (wipes everything, unencrypts data, and upgrades TWRP)
1- ALL of your data including the internal storage will be lost so make a backup. (If you know what you are doing and you are coming from unencrypted Marshmallow you can modify the instructions to not lose data but I won't help you with that).
2- Download this file. Note that it is NOT a flashable zip.
3- Unzip into a folder of your choice on your PC.
4- Open a command window (cmd) and cd to this directory. then run the following:
Code:
flash-all
5- Wait until prompted, then press key to reboot the phone.
6- Your data is wiped and your OS is upgraded to N Preview 5 beta with unencrypted internal storage. Your TWRP is also upgraded to 3.0.2-0.
Technical details: this is a repacking of the Google image with a modified Kernel and removed userdata and recovery images. Everything else is stock.

About root and other issues
To obtain root after installing this update you should flash SuperSU 2.76 (or higher) in recovery. Get it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133.
Cool thanks.. Will android pay still work?
The link doesn't work for me (method 1). Brings up a blank page.
edit - sorry, I see it's still being uploaded. When I first looked on my phone it said this was posted at 5:37 am. When I logged in on my computer just now it says 11:37 pm (25 min ago).
Thanx! Just got the OTA Update available message - can I flash the OTA as well when I am coming from your unencrypted Android N4?

If you take the google OTA your phone will be encrypted and your recovery will be replaced with google's. If you want to keep the recovery and unencrypted sdcard then flash the flashable file above (method 1) that I just finished uploading.
do you have to be on N already, to flash using method #1, and also, are the normal wiping methods required?

You can be on whatever rom you want. Just do a full wipe (data, system etc) and don't wipe sdcard. Then make sure you have TWRP 3.0+. And just flash the zip from method 1. I just did and it's working perfect.
Thanks @najoor !
Why is it always after I post that I realized what I did wrong? LOL edited and deleted.

I'm currently on preview 4 with twrp and root with elemental. Do I need to restore the stock kernel before flashing method 1?
Thanks for your work on this, najoor!

No but your kernel will be replaced with N kernel and if any of your apps depend on the elemental kernel they will stop working.

hello guys,
is there any custom frimeware for the galaxy grand prime sm-g532f ? i looked everywhere but can't find one.
i need one because there is no more space in my phone, the system took almost everything, 6.5go of the 8 availble, so i can't install big apps even with an sd card ! any solution ?
i was about to install a stock rom, but someone told me that it will take the same space as my current rom .
thank you.
I don't think any developer is interested in this device, it could be due to non-availability of unlocked bootloader, firmware sources, etc. I am thinking of getting rid of mine and move to another device that supports open hardware/software.
In possible solution if you managed to root it the use system app remover to get rid of Samsung bloat.
Good luck.

All phones when you unbox are on factory ROM (aka stock ROM). I think you are referring to rooting and installing custom recovery, I failed and phone always go into boot-loop making me to re-flash stock boot and recovery images.

Please post your results, I am hopeless with this severely bloated device.
Update:
Managed to root using TWRP.
1. Install TWRP recovery.img using ODIN (Windows) or Heimdall (Linux) including SU. Details in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...overy-twrp-3-1-0-1-samsung-galaxy-j2-t3616589
Reboot to TWRP > format Data partition > while you are connected to PC > copy SU.zip to data and flash it.
2. Get SU.zip from here;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133/
Good luck.
