Or someone (like me?) make cwm package for stock with rooted/busyboxed/deodexed/zipaligned to flash on .333 system partition.

No chance that they will find a root for this FW at all?
I had to send my phone in for repairs. And they upgraded it to the latest version, even after I specifically asked not to update it

I just bought a second hand SO-02E that's already on the 343 update. I love the phone but I want to have root capabilities for various apps, is there no way to downgrade te firmware? This is my first Sony smartphone and apparently only Samsung phones can be easily downgraded.

Even if they find it, I think they'll hide them until the 4.2 update.

I'm sure it can but I don't see why you'd want to - the 10.1.D.0.343 is full of docomo bloatware. You'd be better off w/10.1.1.A.1.307.

I'm on a custom 4.3 ROM, but was thinking of trying this out anyway. How did you get your update? I'm not sure if I can use PCC with a custom ROM.
I tried the Sony Emma flashtool earlier but it only had the 4.1 (.344) version

I have a good adsl connexion but it was long to dl too, I guess with all the updates available for almost all the xperia portfolio the server are heating!
Hope root will be achieved soon, didn't test any method for now.

It was through PCC mate. I had my tablet connected this morning with no update, so it's obviously only been out for an hour or so.
Just installed, and I'm actually rather enjoying it! Alot better than what screenshots have shown.

Thanks. I'll try Emma again soon. Ironic really - Emma is a Sony developer tool which is meant to give updates a bit sooner than the usual methods

For those of us that are on Cyanogen, is there any way of finding out if the FTF has any important firmware updates in there?
I can rename the .370 FTF to ZIP and see all the sin files, but the vast majority I am unsure about.
Otherwise, I can always nandroid and do it that way

Relock your BL or wait for a ftf.
The problem is not using a custom rom and update with pcc (the rom doesn't matter but the kernel yes), it's when your bl is unlocked you can't update via SUS/PCC no more.

Emma has the 4.2.2 version despite the fact is says 4.1.2. I used Emma and it worked fine for me, though I didn't get my correct region (I'm in Canada and it gave me a UK firmware)

Once the FTF is out and about is there a way of knowing what we need to flash (and perhaps how) to not affect our existing custom setup?

When you flash a ftf file with flashtool, deselect DATA in the wipe section (box in top right corner). That will preserve your data when you flash.

Just wondering what the chances of getting this file are!

I like everything is this update, except the recent apps tray. Swiping away should always be 'swipe across' not 'swipe up or down'.
Few new features might have been nice, but can't complain. At least it's arrived!
It also has the thumb keyboard!

Make sure you read the service information of the update and make sure it says 10.3.1.C.0.136. If it doesn't then its not 4.2.2.

Since this is the last Official firmware update for SP, confirmed by Sony, I don't know why/if DooM has said he won't support the SP anymore. I'm sure he can acquire the necessary files easily enough and get a fix out. How long did it take him to do the last one?

The development of a rooting toolkit doesn't depend on how much money is put on the table but rather if there is a vulnerability in the .201 kernel that can be exploited to gain root access.

Well, they have sort of: unfortunately that post on that french forum was made on april 1st so there is no confirmation if this was either a joke or if it was real

Doomlord has stated on his twitter that there will be no Rooting methode for 4.3 (201 build).. This is because Sony has patched older exploits and according to Doomlord there is no exploit in the kernel whatsoever that can be used to root the device.
So you can collect all you want but without an exploit it is just not possible..

They're not bringing 4.4 KitKat to SP, that tells me that they don't plan on updating the device further. We might get 4.3 patches, but nothing else.

I have stayed on 4.1.2 rooted it and put up with crappy wifi signals
I WILL NOT be buying another Sony mobile as they are no good at maintaining their phones firmware wise.

but downgrading and then upgrading is time consuming...you may have good internet connection but not everyone has it!! ONLY IF there was an availble tool to root .201 fw directly then it would be great for all the non rooted and LB xsp usrs

Time consuming? Dude it's like 10 minutes when you have all the FTFs and tools. If you have a silly internet connection, download them, then don't delete them when you're done

"WHEN YOU HAVE THE FTF" no offence but 745 mb with 512kbps connection will take time. and itll be really good of doomlord if he updates his tool for the latest fw for locked bootloaders

Just leave a computer on for one night.
There isnt any exploit so you cant do this other way. Make this with downgrading... or... Unlock BL - simple.
And I'm pretty sure when someone find any method for root this firmware you will get it.

Dude cmon! I had 512kbps internet a few years back, yet I didn't have any issues downloading 700MB DVD movies from the internet. Stop whining and start downloading.

Asus has released a small update of around 80meg, security patch level now July.

If not for OS update, atleast ASUS is keeping our phone's security up-to-date by giving monthly security patches

Intel SOC they say? Zenfone Zoom also has Intel Chipset and they've release MM earlier.

Well as you can see, many Zenfone 2 Intel users are frustated for the delayed response of just a simple update(i meant MM Final), that already has been using by many other 2014 Smartphone variants since May(eg: Galaxy S5, Xperia Z3).

I'll be lying if i say i'm not waiting for MM update. but when i think that i had this phone for 15 months and or works really fine with lollipop and i know for a fact that they will release MM for it i know for sure that I'll keep using out for another year.

I have my Zenfone 2 rooted, with xposed installed and bootloader unlocked with TWRP (3.0) installed. I know that I have to uninstall xposed framework, and root, but I never had my bootloader unlocked with stock ROM, and I'd like to update. I can't seem to find an answer in the forum, so I'm asking here. Will it work directly from the notification if xposed and root are removed ? If not can i sideload it from adb into the twrp adb sideload ? If not can I just fastboot flash the recovery to be able to install it ? I don't really need to be unlocked on this phone anymore but I don't want to flash the raw firmware, because it's going to take a long time to reinstall everything and set everything up properly. So how am I supposed to do it ? Thanks

from my experience, yes you can.
as long you enable all system app(and have all system apps) to avoid any issues.
make sure you uninstall BusyBox first.

I read that i needed to edit the script file for TWRP to install it, do I still have to do it ? Thanks for the answer

It's weird. I am rooted and I took the OTA update. It gave an error when installing but it said it reverted to original configuration. Now when I check for updates, it shows no updates and I am still on 184. How can I take the OTA update again? I don't see the OTA update in the /cache folder either. Thank you.

7.1.1 reduced volume from headphone jack

So, I bought my X compact 5 days ago and it was on Android 6. The sound output was simply amazingand the volume really, really high. I decided to install all the OTA updates and now the volume has been reduced noticeably. Is there anyone else who has noticed it? Any solutions to it?

I bought my XC last week that came with marshmallow and then I updated to Nougat. I can't say I experienced the same problem. It was always kind of meh.

I haven't rooted my phone yet and I don't want to unlock the bootloader for now.If there was a way to root with locked bootloader i'd give a shot. Thank you

Depends on your skill set and willingness to learn how to mod one apk to do what you need multiple modules to do, and how concerned with security you are.

Thank you both guys. Two last guestions. Is .198 the latest Marshmallow (before our phone upgraded to Android 7). Also, when I dial the code for secret menu,under software info, the Active Customization number is my SI, right?

Mine is 1304-8441_R3D. I'm not sure if it was the last one, I only used it in order to be able to backup my TA partition then unlocked my BL, used POC to create a kernel that uses my TA partition to restore DRM functionality. Then I flashed TWRP 3.1.1 and used SuperSU to root.

I'm just not feeling like going for Marshmallow due to a bug at 7.1.1, since our devices will get more updates as the time goes by, which means there are chances we're seeing it fixed.

No, I'm using the latest 7.1.1, .228 rooted Nougat. When I come to sell my X Compact in the next week or so when the XZ1 Compact drops I'll downgrade to MM again to unroot and relock my BL then update back to N.

You're the boss haha. I'm afraid to void my warranty for now. I'll just wait for Android 8 to make my volume output good again. In case it doesn't I'll give Marshmallow a try

Ha, I'm just experienced with Xperias. Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, Arc, Ray, Sony Xperia Z, Z1 Compact, Z3 Tablet, X Compact, everyone rooted or had it's bootloader unlocked and never had an issue with any that required a warranty repair.
Not saying it can't happen as I have seen a few instances over the years when others have had to, but it's a small percentage and doesn't warrant being so overly cautious during, imo of course.

I'm an Xperia fan as well, I've had Z3 Compact before, Xperia Z, Xperia U, Xperia S etc etc.... Xperia U and S where the only ones I had unlocked the bootloader at though... Thanks for your answers man...
By the way, don't you have any issues with your sound volume at your headphones?

Always happy to try and help. I don't use the headphones at all but the speaker volume was an issue before I increased the mixerpaths xml, it's perfect now though.

I'm on the opposite side of you. I mostly use my headphones and I'm just fine with the speaker's volume.
