We spent most of the summer bringing these products to market and gearing up for our last major smartphone announcement of the year. In September we launched Xperia Z1. Where Xperia Z was a revolution in design, Z1 was a revolution in technology. Through our work with Sony’s camera experts, we were able to create a camera phone that truly blurs the lines between mobile phones and compact cameras, whilst at the same time, new technologies in processors, screens, audio and media integration all came together to produce a smartphone that is simply brilliant. It is our strongest selling smartphone to date and will continue as our flagship into 2014.

Sounds great , but how far into 2014?

No shock there as the phone was released just a few months ago, I really think that they will keep this as their flagship until November before they announce or release a new flagship.
Until now they've used a 6-month flagship release cycle, I want a phone I buy to be their flagship for at least a year or so.
Probably we will see Z1.5 in CES or MWC 2014
And Z2 in september
Hopefully we see something better of sony next year just as it did with Z1
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
Let's all remember the Z1 will be a fantastic phone for a long time, even with new phones coming out.
I must admit Sirius looks really neat:

I don't mind, in fact I prefer it. The only thing I want is for Sony to remain diligent with their software updates and refinements.
It took forever for the Z1 to get 4.3 now I can only hope 4.4 comes soon and the next software update after that.
Sony also really needs to work on more features for their software, I would really like to see more multi tasking features like touch wiz.

The mockup looks good, but I doubt that is an attainable result. Something similar might be achievable though. They talk about an XZU successor... I doubt that's it, more likely an XTZ successor.

they're changing the pogo pins again??!
and wtf with that side placed 3.5mm jack -____-
and 2 covered slots? one has to be a USB port and one has to be sim slot... so either this concept wont have expandable storage or 1 of those covered slots holds both usb/sd or sd/sim
the rest is an OK though, especially love those stereo speakers
The Z1 is the first smartphone I have purchased for full retail price, so I was hoping that my $675 purchase would last me quite a long time anyways. I just hope that my bootloader will be able to be unlocked at some point. In the meantime, let's hope Sony will keep up with the updates.
My first Sony device, was inclined to buy the nexus for updates but chose Sony because of its sheer beauty.
Old Sony loyalists assured me that Sony phones enjoy great development but I have yet to see something. No complaints with the stock rom, it's perfect. But would love to have some AOSP options.
Cheers!

Wait a little, development just began after the 4.3 update as most people wouldn't unlock their bootloaders due to loss of camera functionality.
I really do hope that Sony will keep Z1 as their current flagship at least until the end of Q1 of 2014 most especially now that my phone's not yet replaced or haven't had another one (it's dead on Christmas day until now). But with the rumors about the Z1 mini having a superior screen panel than the Z1 it's making me think a little if I should wait for the Z1 mini. But most probably get another Z1 (a better one with no yellow screen issue and no sudden death issue I hope) since I wanted to have a larger screen as I have come from Xperia acro S which has 4.3 screen like the Z1 mini.

Honestly it would be about time they introduced a proper USB-capable pogo-pin layout. Side-mounted 3.5mm jack would never work in practice though, so I highly doubt that.
Guys, there will be a Z2 in early 2014, you should have no illusions about that, Sony has refreshed its flagships every half year for the longest time. The Z1 won't be the best anymore, but it's still a ridiculously good device. The only reason I would even consider upgrading would be if there was an IGZO display on the Z2, then, and only then would there be even the slimmest chance that I ditch the Z1 this year. Even then it's highly unlikely to be honest, the Z1 is a brilliant piece of technology.
Even if a Z2 does come out i would keep my Z1 till the Z3 or whatever its called comes

1. its a mock up, not an official sony design
2. the pogo pins are actually taken from the macbook pro
3. yeah! wth is with the side jacks, doesnt look practical
4. covered slots design looks good but not sure they can make that water proof...
Nope Z1 will be replaced with Z3 .. Z2 will be for people who missed the Z1 ... i dont think there would be much difference between Z1/Z2
Hi all, refer to the above let's discuss why you choose xperia z2 compare with others device.
is it because the design, Spec, price, sony fans or others.

Simply because it's the best flagship on the market at the moment.
S5 sucked balls. It will be Z2 unless HTC suprises us with a monster in about 1 month.

Just saw ARTICLE about new IPS screen and Sony finally have great and quality product.
I'm completely satisfied with my Z1 but if I get some interesting offer (like I got for Z1) I'll definitely try it.
Why?
Because, now, Z1 is ultimate device and Sony just upgraded it
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
Because the Z2 is the best on the market just now, S5 rom is 8Gb compared to the Z2's 4Gb, plus Z2 has way more excellent specs. I don't care that Samsung maybe releasing a 64bit S5 later this year as I think it is too early for me to get into 64 bit phones just now; as infrastructure etc is not in place yet i.e. app devs have yet to jump on board. That is my opinion anyway...
Waterproofing
Micro SD slot
Front facing speakers
Great camera
And thankfully a big battery
Also simple things like a camera shutter button make this the best phone on the market atm.
BTW, would not touch the S5. The design combined with touchwiz is enough to put me off.
I had a Z, ZL and now Z1. Logical to have a Z2 next.

Lost faith in Samsung with there handling of s3 updates plus had problems with them regarding other Samsung products. Been a fan of sony for a while now and its coming close to my phone upgrade and the Z2 currently looks like it. I have a few months to go so plenty of time to judge the competition and see what negatives might crop up about the z2.
As long as root is easily gained with minimal drawback Ill most likely be picking up the z2.
Plus the specs of this phone do look pretty good to me
Bigger battery, nicer look, wanted something that wasn't made by Samsung for once.

Eye friendly...
I am one of the small amount percentage of population who seems to suffer from LED's displays... Sony triluminos display tech, seems to be benign on our eyes. At least sony Vaio Pro 13 and flip are better displays... This issue has years... Hope Z2 is really eye friendly to me too...
Seems spectrum of light of triluminos technology is more balanced. Not a huge blue spike on spectrum...
Here you could see a thread talking on LED's:

My HTC One is killing my eyes...

because of this past year i cannot trust Sony easily!
i love to buy Xperia Z2 IF all thing about display & ... be right!
if no two quality of display!
sharp display! jdc! OR all story like those!
It s ok if sony s using different company for display supplying BUT not different quality from each company.
:good:
My first phone was the Motorola RAZR V3i and have been a loyal user since then with Moto Droid & Moto RAZR... just loved the premium build quality along with excellent specs. Beauty with brains! Loved the design of Xperia Z & Z1 but was hesitant to switch due to the screen quality as I'm spoiled by AMOLED on my RAZR.
But the Z2 seems like the only phone to be awesome inside & out with no drawbacks to give me second thoughts why not to buy it... (Size was a little concern but I can live with that)
It's either the htc one 2014 or z2. I'm going to buy on tmobile 's jump program if i do decide to get one of these puppies. The phone addict in me wants the latest and greatest, but honestly don't "need" one just yet since I have the N5.
I expect by Fall, everyone will update their SOCs with 64 bit cpus. Also hope that finger print unlock and pw will be supported more widely. Not to mention waterproof and 3GB of ram. These will be must have options.

I also want to see what htc will bring to the table. I doubt it can match sony. Also would need a case since you can't get protection on the alu back.
I don't really see a need for 64 bit systems. What do you see 64 bit bring? Do phones need a new OS to match it? Will support for old systems stop?
We might not need it in the consumer space, but it's one of those things where if you can get it as a little to no-cost option, why not? I can envision a bunch of enterprise use cases like big data analytics and data visualization, not to mention phones/phablets/tablets with > 4gb of ram etc
I'm currently on a htc one x, my contract has 2 weeks on it, so I started looking. The galaxy s5 is a massive fail in my eyes, and I'm just getting bored with HTC. As soon as a saw a leak of sense 6 I knew I'd be bored. I'm going to miss BlinkFeed, but the look of the Z2 and the specs, plus noise cancelling and stereo speakers, as well as the camera (going on a once in a lifetime holiday in August), coupled with an sd card slot and waterproofing (11 pools in the resort), I think it'd be a crime not to go for the Z2. I am worried about the size a little bit, even tho I have big hands.
I have the HTC one and have very little complaints about it and the 2014 version looks promissing but that panel that used to have the capacitive buttons on it is still there but now it's just a logo. Idk why they would keep that. I hate wasted space and big bezels and I think the Z2 once I get Cyanogenmod running on it would be amazing
because the first android phone that i used was sony
sony phones are great in price , support in my country and dev's are supporting them great
and the most important one because sony phones are blazing fast and their software is useful and they don't have useless futures that only make your phone slower and they will eat your ram as hell
thats why i decided to buy sony z2
I love the design,
I love the software,
I love the camera,
I love the build quality,
I love the bigger battery,
I love front facing speakers,
And 3gb of Ram which the s5 don't have (besides I got the note 3, I dont need any more Samsung devices for now)
The Z2 and the note 3 will do me for now

First I have seen and use the products of Sony company. The best thing about Sony Xperia smartphone is its sound and It's look, which I like most. It runs on latest version of Android 6.0 (also known as Android M or Marshmallow).
Not that marshmallow is available just yet officially for the Z5

Hmmmm....? Marshmallow?
Personally I just fancied a change after having the nexus 5 and the 5X didn't seem like a worth while upgrade to me. With a decent case and tempered glass and it's waterproofing it's pretty solid and unbreakable and has a good specification
Sent from my Xperia z5 using Tapatalk
I needed something to replace my broken Nexus 5 and I chose the Z5 over the S6 because of Exynos' proprietary BS.
Just a good phone
I had an original Xperia Z as I liked the square design, and was impressed with the stamina mode and the self healing metallic bumper around the phone. I also liked with waterproof functionality and have used the phone in pools to take video and photos. I also use it as a GPS on my motorbike which also benefits from the waterproof functionality.
I have recommended the Xperia range to a few friends, and those who have tried it love the power of the compact series, the battery life, and are now Sony converts!!! So it's not only my experience, but also that of others.
The new Z5 was the latest available after my 2 year lock-in, and I'm happy again with the device.
SD card slot.
I've had Apple, LG, OnePlus, Samsung and HTC devices in the past. I wanted to try something new
The phone design, near-stock Android experience and SD card reader helped too.
I'm pretty happy with my Z5 so far... but a little bit less impressed by how long it takes to get Marshmallow...
I just love the design of sony, exceptionally different from other smartphones. Waterproofing is one more thing to add...
seems that lots us Nexus 5 owners jumped to Z5 as the next logical choice
SD800 is still a beast and anything more isn't gonna show any difference in normal daily use. so I looked for the most features to get for my next mobile, Dust/Water proof + Fingerprint sensor seemed like the best combo for my next phone.

This time because the Samsung edge + did not have micro SD slot, and the Z5P wasn't available
so much things...
-I really love ergonomic Xperia Design
-Water and sand resistance
-Humidity resistance
-SD card slot
and the most important for me:
**I hate when camera is out of the body**
Expandable memory is the main reason. I also thought that because the Z5 launched a while later that it would be better than the S6 but reality was in fact the opposite.
Oh well still happy with it, it does look really nice and gets a lot of heads turning. I just hope that we can get better GPU drivers because its seriously hampering my gaming.
Honestly, I got it because I was sick of huge phones and generic look of Samsung. Had a Note 4, can't believe the difference of half an inch is that good. My wife has the S6 Edge, it's nice and the gimmick can get newcomers. We can name and list all those specs, but I seriously love the basic simple ui Sony offered. Don't like the Sony extra, but hey it's their branded phone and I'll get rid of that stuff on my own. Other than that I'm more than happy. Don't think I'll be looking at Samsung any time soon.
Been with Sony since W810. Started Xperia's with X1. Have tried other brands but keep coming back to Sony.
Same with the other comments the design is so good and it's has waterproof unlike the other phone it doesn't have waterproof.
Waterproof, supposedly great camera which could improve, not-too-bad battery life, and very importantly firmware upgrade. (sony is doing great compared with many other brands who dropped support only a year after releasing the phone. My previous sony xperia zr is still receiving system update!!!)

I have used only Samsung till now (S2; S4; Note 2; S6edge and Note 4). Nevertheless removing SDcard and very weak battery in S6 make me to change smartphone. Now I use black Sony Xperia Z5 and I'm very happy with it. It's so cool and elegant
In Z5 I like:
- waterproof
- great design and quality (Samsung has to learn from Sony). Z5 looks so elegant.
- great camera
- UI - light but with many functions
- very good and bright screen with lots of options to config
- I have PS and Sony TV too
I have had my Z5 for about 3 days now and I love it
I will probably never go back to Samsung or something else if only Sony still will make such great phones.
First I bought a xperia s to be on sale and just fell in love. after that, just bought Sony by making sure the competition does not do better than Sony. I had the xperia Z1 and am currently with the Z5.
I haven't found the z5 thread for those of us that are happy with their device, so I am starting one! Most forums, for any phone, fill with issues/questions. Those are certainly helpful, but most devices, even if they do it right, won't get much in the way of positive reviews.
Well, I've had my Z5 for about two weeks, and like other Sony's I've owned, I've found it to be a very solid device. Previous three devices;
LG V10
Motorola Pure
Sony Z3
I've unlocked / rooted and am running MM with no issues. Compared to the V10 / Pure, the size of the Z5 is just about perfect. About the only thing I NEED to do to all my devices is change the DPI and drop the soft keys... build.prop and Xposed to the rescue!
Anyway, hopefully some third party dev stuff comes rolling in ( I selfishly like Slim), and thanks to all those that are actively working on development efforts!
It's a pleasure to use this device, and it's a pleasure to use Marshmallow, which is what Lollipop should have been.
I'm stuck with a locked bootloader , but phones great lol
Some additional things I've grown to like;
1) The power / fingerprint security button is great. I've setup most of the fingers on my right hand to unlock, which makes one hand use a breeze.
2) IMHO, the camera takes great pictures. Not sure if there's RAW mode support....
3) Battery is getting better as I use the phone more, though it's still not as good as the V10. I am mostly a business user.
4) Voice quality is good on both ends of conference calls.
5) Bluetooth seems very stable for me... connecting to both my Infiniti and my BT headset for work calls.
6) Charging is relatively quick with the charger from my Moto Pure.
7) I find, as usual, that the Sony Android build is minimal compared to some others (though not as good as the AOSP Moto).
well after I got my phone back from RMA it has been working flawlessly so ye I'm more than happy Sony, then again I like the brand, still got a sony tv from 1988 and it is still working, no problems
two weeks ago I was at this wedding, where I was the only one that could take photos with my phone, all others were laggy cause of the very low light conditions including samsung and iPhones, I just pressed the shutter in superior auto and this phone didnt let me down, one after another 6 or 7 continuous shots all of'em perfectly visible and ppl starts asking me "The hell of a phone which one is it?" proudly Z5
Thanks for this thread, it is refreshing to read more positive stuff about this phone as opposed to the hoards of negativity and hate that is present in these forums.
After I initially had issues with my Sony Xperia Z5 (mainly on lollipop), currently with MM my phone is excellent. The only complaint I have is that I still am plagued by the mobile radio active bug, but I don't think it actually consumes more battery and is instead just an error reading bug that gives misleading battery information when on 3G/4G.
For me, my battery life is great and I can easily go 2 days with a full charge. No Bluetooth issues anymore. Standby time is superb. My device does not overheat at all, even with extended usage browsing web or watching YouTube it just gets warm. And finally the camera is just amazing.
Coming from a Z1 this device is the perfect size and the fact that Sony managed to make it smaller, thinner, lighter and include a larger screen size is commendable. Design wise, for me personally, the Z5 is simply beautiful. I love the feel of the matte glass back and how nice it feels in the hand, it truly is one of the best looking devices currently available.
I bought a Google pixel 3 weeks ago, and now I find myself using my old broken and taped z3c. This is the perfect size and I hope Sony never discontinues the compact series.
I bought pixel because Sony went mid range on their new compact. And that really sucks. I'd spend the same amount on a top range compact that looks exactly like the z3c. Water proof and awesome battery life and just the perfect to hold.
Sucks that its looking less and less likely.

Totally agree, every cent was well expended on this phone. I regret nothing. Also I thought I'd never use the waterproof feature, but this week accidently I poured water on my phone. I didn't even bothered about it

There are rumors that in February there will be a XZ Compact release.
Is the Pixel that bad? I was interested in buying it, but it's way too expensive.
No, absolutely not. Pixel is awesome. Unparalleled software and camera experience. Love the screen quality and oh so smooth.
Give me pixel software and camera on a z3c shape and size (maybe upgraded to include xperia x fingerprint scanner, USB c, and the new chips -821 and 4 GB RAM) and that works be my ideal phone.
I guess this is a good place to give my two cents, for all z3c users considering pixel - don't be fooled by those reviews calling the regular pixel a compact form, it's so not. Maybe it feels like compact to those who like and use phablets - to us z3c users, it's a big ol phone. And the way I hold the phone one handed (so I can type) actually hurts my finger. The bottom of pixel is sharp where the speaker cut out is. I rest my phone on my little finger - could do that with z3c - can't do that with pixel. The phone is top heavy, it always feel like it'll topple over during typing.
Compared to z3c, the pixel is a bar of soap, super slippery. Add to that the width and weight, and of course the price (meaning you don't want to drop this) this phone is a pain to use - super scared of dropping it all the time.

Wish I had the money to buy it then. Sounds like a cool phone.
But if you mod the Z3C right (my setup is SLIMM 3.8 + EliteKernel (personalized kernel profile) + ARISE Sound Mod + Cyberian (I tweaked some files as well and use personalized KCal settings) + N-ify along with Greenify and AppOps for saving battery and Media Scanner Optimizer + SDMaid for snappiness) I can say that this phone can perform par on par with the latest flagships. My girlfriend has a S7 and the way the camera is edited due to CyberianMod and my edits, the Z3C is coming really close to it.
The only problem with Z3 is the overheating issue and the fact that we don't have official support anymore. But, hey! A lot of bugs were fixed with the latest blobs.
I was searching for a new phone to buy as well, but I couldn't find anything (nor had the money). I took into account Nexus 5X but that phone has at most 1 more year of support. Same with the Z5C. XZ is too big, X Compact is mid-range. Pixel is way too expensive and OnePlus 3 is far too big.
I guess that I'll be stuck with the Z3C for a while. At least I can try and make the most of it. Great phone. Wish support wasn't dropped for it.
And it's a great phone to be stuck with - I almost wish I stayed put (hence the post) but I cracked my z3c and currently using it with tape. Also, got tired of the camera and low light picture quality - that and diminishing developer support ????

You should give a try to a brand new Z5 compact( or back again to a brand new Z3 compact) , in my opinion. Sure, many people would say it's a failure to buy a brand new 1-2 year old phone, when there's the new X Compact, BUT i just can't move to any other phone bigger than 4.7....And guys, let's be honest, only Sony provides power in these inches...(maybe Apple with the iPhone SE too, but it's not waterproff, no sd card + it's 4.0 not 4.6)
Don't think I didn't consider that. I really did... It boiled down to z5c not being much of an upgrade from z3c, looks more plasticky, and the horror stories I heard about overheating.
Combine that with my desire for the latest stock software and timely update and also a top notch camera - I had to make the call on pixel. Also, I'm on T-Mobile, been on it for quite a while, don't anticipate switching, so when T-Mobile half off over two years promo came out, the phone became affordable (not that it would have stopped me,, considering I bought the phone before the promo was announced).
As I said, if Sony releases an upgraded z3c again, same form factor and look, and battery life, just improved internals and maybe added finger print sensor, I'll sell my pixel and buy that instead. (I hope Sony is reading these forums )

Combine that with my desire for the latest stock software and timely update and also a top notch camera - I had to make the call on pixel.
As I said, if Sony releases an upgraded z3c again, same form factor and look, and battery life, just improved internals and maybe added finger print sensor, I'll sell my pixel and buy that instead. (I hope Sony is reading these forums )

I'd love to own a Pixel, stock android, tons of custom roms and outstanding camera, those two have my attention, but damn WTF with the price? Apart from the looks (the back is OK, but why did they copy iPhone's front is beyond every logic) the battery is a joke, come on from the Z2/Z3 days it should have become a standard to use a 3000mah battery with ~5" screen. This is not an affordable Nexus device so that they can cut costs on a battery and get away with it.
Anyway, even if Sony releases "upgraded z3c" or something similar, I'd think twice about it, mainly because I love using AOSP (fully working and stable), and that's impossible if you don't own Nexus/Pixel.

Hi!
I'm very new here and also not that experienced with modding android. I have 2 Zc3 witch I've Rooted and put some Slimm rom in. (I've no Idea What th SLimm stands for)
Going to try to copy your setup now, so thanks for posting that!
I Upgraded one of them today with the "D5803_3657_Android 6.0 Sony Marshmallow Concept"
And to my Suprise they added support for Exchange server??
I've tried so hard to get any exchange calender to work with the slimm but to no sucess, Do any of you use marsmallow? or do you use older ones? (My work uses office365 )
I been looking for any phone that can match the batterylife and size with the xperia but with no sucess. So I guess I'm stuck with simply the best ^^
Best phone I was used before but due digitizer problem I sent to service they replace the phone with X
I really enjoyed with z3c it is great phone
