What happened with 240fps? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
After I received my 6p 2 weeks ago first thing was to try 240 fps which was nice and smooth. Today i tried 3 times but cant get the same result. 120 fps smooth but 240 fps looks like 10-15 fps.

Try let your phone cool down

Make sure you are also in excellent light

others have posted a restart clears this up. 240fps is pretty processor intensive.

Nexus One 720p? True HD?

Is it gonna look as good as a Iphone 4 or a Omnia HD?If not Im not gonna bother you know, I checked on YouTube, and it looks just like the normal video on the N1.
Yeah, it's like the video's you saw, except 720p.
People are working on getting it higher quality, with video, audio, and FPS.
Actually I just checked a newer vid and it actually looks better than I thought, Still though I'll wait till its really good looking!
The iPhone 4 has better camera, so it won't be as good. That said, I would rather use the nexus video hack at 480 with 30 fps rather than 720 at 20 fps. They may still improve the hack to match the iPhone though, we have to wait and see.
And the 480p 30 fps hack only works on 2.1?
Yes but they are working on froyo version.
480p @ 30fps works on Froyo; you just need to be rooted and edit the media_profiles.xml file and set the fps to 30. You can also set resolution to 800x480 if you wish.

What were you going to say? I hardly think creating a whole new thread and just posting vids contributes to any discussion >.<

The point of the 60 FPS is to do a slow motion, once you took the video, you can edit it to get some parts (well actually one part) to go slower.. then you can for example, while filming a freind jumping with a skate board, slow down only the part when he actually is in the air.. you can choose what speed to reduce it to as well.

Recording videos while driving a car. Great job. Moron.

i think it makes a more smooth video ?

YouTube isn't 60fps so video is pointless

No it is not, you have slow motion option and HD fast (60fps), they are different things, with 60fps you will have a smother video.
Smoother like if you are playing a game at 20fps(for example) in a computer and then change the configuration or the hardware and it give you 30~40fps, you will be able to play it much better.
60 fps is 720p, 30 fps is 1080p. (i'm guessing 60fps means lower compression rate / less space taken?)

let me bring a little clarity!!!
The reason the 60 frames per second looks so smooth is because our eyes see at about 60 frames per second that is the point in having 60 frames per second . this is why in the gaming industry for many many years we have tried to get 60 frames per second that is also coincidentally the same refresh rate of your monitor (likely) to go a little further you'll notice that 3d TVs are typically 120 Hertz so 60 ÷60 is 120 3d is 2 images. Tada sooo, For me i love the 60 fps because theres no loss in frames when I watch it with my eyes... Your dog will see it skip but not you! Dogs see at like 75 or 80 fps dont quote me on that ,but its a lil faster than we do.. Wikipedia can explain all that if you wanna know more.... So both arguments are kind of right. Yes the images will look better in slow mo and yes the images will look smooth but you would actually one more like 120 for slow mo or 240 the more frames you get the better it looks in slow mo..

Note 4 Detailed GameBench FPS Scores - Impressive

LINK HERE
Seems the phone is able to handle the most demanding games at max fps. Good to know since my next phone is the Note 6 lol.
ps - I think most games are set at a certain resolution then upscaled, which is a win win for the qhd screen. Such a beauty to look at!
Ran the Epic Citadel bench. On the default setting, I avg about 60fps. On the Ultra HQ setting, I'm getting like 50 fps. This is all at 2560x1440 resolution.
Pic - sorry, I couldn't add a picture to the 2nd post above on the xda app once I posted.

Hummingbird video

There's a 240 fps slow mo hummingbird video from the 6P on youtube. I'd post a link, but I can't because I'm new to the forums.
There's at least a couple versions of it on the net, I downloaded the 19.5 mb version, and decoded it into its image frames:
892 frames at 720x1280 resolution.
My tool told me the MP4 was running at 30 fps for approx 29.733 seconds. If it was recorded at 240 fps, then it means this video is slowed down 8X, and real time it was only a recording of approx 3.71 seconds. My computer is not quite fast enough to speed it up that much, the best I can do is run all 892 frames in about 6 seconds. At that speed it really looks like a guy is just holding the camera in his hand and you can tell its moving around a bit.
Does anyone know more details of the slow motion options available for the 6P?
Are there any other 6P 240fps slo mo MP4s out there in the wild?

Recording 4K video overheat. Camera App closes at 3 minutes

Hello,
When I record 4K video with my Z5P, I get heat warning at around 2 minutes mark and camera app closes around 3 minutes. Anybody else experiencing the same problem? Other than this, my Z5P and its camera work absolutely fine. Btw, my firmware is still 32.0.A.6.170, still haven't received an update.
Hello, I have the same problem.
What I discovered is that when shooting in 4K or 1080p 60fps temperature protection is triggered. 30fps 1080p there is no problem.
I just tested recording 1080p 60fps. It too overheated and closed at around 2~3 minutes. 30fps is working fine. I think this is software issue. Maybe it is worth trying the repair via pc companion but I don't want to wipe my phone now. Some are reporting that 32.0.A.6.200 is fixing numerous problems. I guess I'll wait for it and see what happens.

same for me.
60 fps stops at 3 mins,
for 30fps 1080, first 35 mins, 2nd 30 mins. tried that already during our christmas party, when a certain band was performing.
No access to this page?
Edit :
Ok now working
Did a quick test before I head off - of 1080p 60fps with steadyshot on standard
Got to 10 mins with no heat warning.
Room temperature 20c to 22c
I'll do a better comparison in future of all video modes
Edit once more: video duration is 10.14
File size is 2.2gb
I tried 4K with Steadshot for around 30mins, and I found that 45ºC will force stop the camera
The z series has always had this, so do the Samsung phones.
They are thin sealed units its not a fault
U boys have some wierd .. Phones idk on youtube a guy filmed 1hour 4k on z5p
---------- Post added at 11:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:54 AM ----------

Well i cant say anything really cus im on a custom rom wich has alot of improvements... Havr you updated your fw? The new updte (62mb) has some overheating stopping things. edit; you havent got a update yet???? Thats wierd i had it ready when i bought z5p and just updated it on the same day. But now im on the rom so yeah..
I just tested with my z5p.
I stopped at 25 min, but i never got any warnings.
Room temp is 23,5 celcius and my phone was charging the entire time, which also would increase temp.
@xirt0n
Did you check 60 fps or 4k and if steadyshot on or not etc etc
The first test I did was standard 4k video, with steadyshot off and filetype h.264
Later on I tested with file type h.264 and h.265 and also with steadyshot at the only option it gave me which was standard or off, and i went with standard. All was done with 4k video. I dont actually know where i can find 30 or 60 fps. I am using RomAur btw.
See image to see my few options while in 4k mode. The entire camera app looked different before i flashed RomAur which is .170 and i went from official. 200.
(turns out i cant post links yet!)
