long click paste not working? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi every one ... long time reader, first time poster....
I've had my Moto X Pure for a about 3 weeks now and as it replaced my rock solid GS3 with a wicked sensations rom, its a big upgrade for me, but I bit the bullet anyway I'm waiting till M to root and load a custom ROM so right now totally stock out of the box, with Swift Key as the only add on so to speak..
I've noticed that in the apps that I've tried this with, things don't function the way I would expect them to. ... If I long click to highlight some text, drag the right and left bars to the txt I want and then short click the highlighted txt to copy, then go to the place I want to past the txt and long click again and the phone just does a quick "buzz" like a vibrate and no paste menu pops up like I've always been accustom to ...
Am I missing something here from 5.0 to 5.1.1 ? or maybe on some kind of crack like substance (I'm not btw......... ) .. has anyone else encountered this at all?
cheers and thanks to all the awesome members of XDA for the years of tips, trips, and automobiles you've provided

[APP][WWE][Updated: Aug 26 2008] POCKET VIDEO POKER - Public Beta v0.4

I wanted to give back to the community, so...
Proudly announcing Pocket Video Poker for the Diamond! With styling inspired by TF3D, and revamped from the original one I wrote for my Tytn, Pocket Video Poker gives you all the thrill of the casino, without the agony of losing your cash! So charge up that 900 mAh battery, grab your favorite beverage, kick back in your comfy chair, and have fun!
I offer my apologies in advance for the game that will soon consume what little bit of free time you have left. I am not responsible for loss of work, loss of appetite, loss of marriage, etc.
Updated to 0.4 Aug 26, 2008 -- See the next post for instructions and version history.
If you enjoy the game, please DONATE to support continued development! Thank you!
.
Installation
(Requires .Net CF 3.5)
Install the attached CAB file on your Jewel.
Instructions
If you have played video poker in a casino, this should be very familiar to you. This game is based on the "Jacks or Better" variety of video poker. I have no plans to add other varieties at the moment, so please don't ask.
Tap a column in the Payouts Chart to change your bet. The payout for Jacks Or Better is equal to the bet (you break even), so the 1st column bets 1 credit, the 5th column bets 5 credits, etc. For obvious reasons, you cannot change your bet in the middle of a hand.
Tap Deal, tap the cards you want to hold (tap again to toggle), then tap Draw to replace the remaining cards.
If you end up with a winning hand, you can try to double-up your win by tapping Double. Five new cards will be dealt. The first card is the dealer's card, and is face-up. Tap one of the face-down cards to try to beat the dealer's card. If you win, you can try to double-up again. If you lose, you get nothing.
Tap Exit to, ummm, exit.
Tap Options to access player management and game options. In the Players tab you can select the current player, view hand statistics, add more credits, rename players, and delete (reset) players. Adding credits will bring a player back up to 100 credits, and can only be done when a player drops below 100 credits.
Planned Future Features
Clean up sounds to remove hiss
Automatically hold cards that make a hand on the initial deal
Tap the Win amount to skip count-up of credits (this would be useful if you ever hit a 4000 credit win)
Make it more clear whether you are starting a new hand or drawing on a hand. You can tell because the button toggles between Deal/Draw, but I still want to make it more obvious.
Test on other devices, resolutions, WinMo versions, etc. It is currently only known to work on the Diamond with WM 6.1
Reduce memory footprint
Known Issues
One person has reported an occasional crash, but I have not seen this nor been able to reproduce it. Please let me know if you can provide any additional information.

Yes, but you lose all the stats that will later be displayed in the options, so the rest of us poor people here will never get to see how you made 1600.

See first post about the options.
Can you give more detail about not being able to hold cards? Seriously, I've been playing this game for weeks and have never seen an issue with that. Are you sure the hand wasn't already over?
sry after SR works fine dont know why but im lucky
OK, I took some time during lunch to package it up in a CAB, so it'll be even easier to install now. Apologies to the 90+ people that did it the hard way.
I'll have some time this weekend to tie up some of the loose ends (*cough* OPTIONS *cough*) ... so I'd really like to hear what other suggestions you guys have!
Thanks for playing, and don't let your boss see.
Hmmmm... no ideas??? Guess that means you're all subject to my whims.
Hi everyone! A new version is now in the first post. Here are the changes:
0.3 [2008-08-17]
Made the cards cleaner and nicer

Added ability to select players, add more credits, and view hand statistics

Hi, so I will let you know what I think. First of all, I love this game!!!
It runs great on my D, had only one crash till now.
But I wonder if I'm the only one who wants the order of the four mainbuttons (Exit, Opt., Double and Deal in reverse Order) ???
I mean, I'm right-hander, like, I think, the most of us and it would be much more comfortable for my thumb to have the deal- and doublebutton on the left side.
Just try it! (but maybe I'm really the only one with that desire...)
Another thing is that I miss only the one option to mute the gamesound...
Anyway, many many thanks for that game and I hope you will maybe change the buttonorder someday.
ps: my broken english could be better, but I think everyone knows what I meant.

That's a good idea! I'll add it to the planned features list. The placement of the Deal/Double buttons comes from where they are on the real casino game, but you make a good point that on a device, they might not be in the most comfortable place.

setting up Droid 2 for my blind sister

My sister lost her vision last year at the age of 24 due to diabetic retinapothy. She is missing be able to text message, facebook, celeb gossip... you know, the important things in life We initially bought the Droid X for her, but It's going back in exchange for the Droid 2, which should be here on 9/9/10.
Problem with the X is the Android Eyes Free Shell and the Talking Dialer make use of either a trackball or a directional pad. The Droid X has neither. It's also difficult to navigate pretty much everything blind without a d-pad. Should of thought of that earlier. Oh well, the exchange process is very easy. The Android Eyes Free team developed the software around the Nexus one i assume, which has a trackball. Personally i think a d-pad is better for a blind person, as you can press down once to go down once. A trackball you might go down 2 or 3 depending on how much you rotate it.
I'm going to be updating this thread with our progress as well as what steps we took along the way. Hopefully this will end up being helpful for someone else in a similar situation. Blind people DO use the internet (even youtube!).
Here are the initial changes I want to make:
Locating Touch Sensitive buttons
I will go to a craft store and find something to put below the 4 touch sensitive buttons on the front of the phone, this way she will be able to find them. Im thinking 4 drops of some puffy glitter glue or something to that effect. Being diabetic she's also lost somesensitivity in her fingers, so something with texture will be needed.
Removing the Lock Screen
Slide to unlock is basically an impossible task for a blind person. The Droid 2 uses the stock vanilla lock screen I believe, does anyone know how to remove it? I could potentially replace it with a "shake to unlock" or whatever, and ideas here are appreciated.
Answering the phone
Again, here slide to answer isn't going to fly. Does anyone know: If you slide the keyboard out while the phone is ringing does it answer the call? Most slider phones I've seen operated like that, I'm hoping the Droid 2 does too. She will also have a bluetooth headset which should make it easy to answer, but if your blind trying to find your bluetooth headset in time to answer the call can be a problem, so i'd like her to be able to answer the phone without a headset as well.
Hanging up the phone
Can you slide the keyboard shut to end a call? What happens if your on a call and you slide the keyboard out and then closed, does that hang up the call? Another solution would be to make it so the power button hangs up the call, surely it can be remapped do that. Or is there an end call button somewhere on the hardware qwerty?
Ok, those are the first major things. Actually dialing a call is no problem once we get past the lock screen issue. She can double tap the home button to launch the voice dialer, or she can use the Android Eyes Free "Talking Dialer" to dial a number with her finger using swipe motions. It's pretty neat actually, give it a try if you haven't already. The Eyes Free Shell and the Moto Voice Command will take care of pretty much everything else.
Thanks in advance for your help!
I can confirm that the Droid 2 does NOT answer when sliding the phone open and does NOT hang up when sliding closed. Just tested this.
Edit: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=762101
View that thread and search the app "no lock" in the market. Seems to do what you are looking for in the marketplace. You may also want to contact the developer to see about source code or see if it was a .apk that was removed.
Also in response to the glue idea:
I would test on another device because the screen has to be able to sense your impulse as well because it wont trigger unless it has a touch by a human hand. My guess it it reads the electronic pulse by the skin and that is how it picks it up.
about the unlock screen, I can say is once you do it enough times you know where is on the screen, I usually unlock mine while its not even all the way out of my pocket, also it vibrates when you touch the unlock area and it vibrates again as you pull it to the right...hope this helps
I don't have an Android phone yet, but I've seen a nice replacement for the stock locker, called WidgetLocker. You can modify it a lot (add your own apps, widgets etc.) but the most important thing for you is that you can move the unlock slider down to the bottom of the screen so it would be easier to unlock it.
Of course, the best solution is to remove completely the locker, but I don't know whether it's possible, so I'm just giving you another option

This page has been a big help: http://eyes-free.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/documentation/android_access/basics.html
Above link talked about No Lock, an app on the market that removes the lock screen. Although it turns out she is actually able to unlock the phone blindly, but it usually takes her a few tries. For now we are going with no lock...
Also the Droid 2 has an option in the Accessibility page to enable "use power button to end call" so that has been a big help.
So far the biggest problem with the Droid 2 is the keyboard really sucks for a blind person. The navigation keys are kind of awkwardly placed, and the keys are very flat. I wish I would of known about the LG Ally, as the appears to be the best Android phone for a blind person. Has physical buttons on the front to start/end calls, and the keyboard is WAY better (for a blind person anyways). Unfortunately Verizon only lets you exchange a phone 1 time, and we already bought the Droid X. So looks like I'd have to sell the Droid 2 and buy the LG Ally on eBay. Not sure if we are going to go that route.. might just try and make the best of it with the Droid 2.
I have a LG Ally wits a protective rubber case, invisible shield screen protector, and 2 batteries which I'm not currently using. I'll do a straight up trade for your Droid 2.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Made my account to reply to this (And because I got my Droid 2 2 days ago). Will be watching this thread. My son is 2 and nearly blind. We are exploring any and all ways to work around it. I'm currently learning braille so I can teach him, and looking into how to make phones and computers more usable for him. Hopefully your sister handles what's happened well and finds ways to keep up her life, goals, and hobbies
Thanks for posting this. Good luck with the project and keep us updated, please!
Need some help here too
Hi there,
This seems to be the only forum that I can find on this subject. I will definitely be checking out the LG Ally but I'm also looking at the Droid 2 Global (which my partner has bought for himself and I have been testing out).
I am a blind person with little vision and I have to find a smart phone that works for me, as I have hit the point where I need to access my work email, work calendar, and browser functions do be more efficient and effective.
The blackberry is out, as it doesn't work for blind people through Verizon.
The IPhone, though just coming out from Verizon, does seem to have a great VoiceOver application which works great for a blind person. However, I'm not sure I'm patient enough to type without a keyboard--though it is possible for a blind person to use it.
Your points about the LG Ally are helpful for me. Does it have an accessibility application like the Droid 2 Global?
In testing out the Droid Two Global, I have enabled the "accessibility application" and checked the read out checkbox in the settings. It has abled me to see most stuff and some of the pieces you put up on the post will help. What I am struggling with is the following:
When I access any part of the browser application, it doesn't read the page of the web site or any of the links. I'm wondering if there are key combinations I am not femiliar with that would make this work or does it do it at all?
Also, the calendar is not reading things to me as well. Any ideas?
In general, is there a button that I can press, that will get it to repete something or to read a screen. I currently am just arrowing back and forth to choose something. I also can hit the OK button when typing a message to read what is in the edit box.
The last issue, though I think it would get much easier as I used it, is that to dial just a phone number seems to take a bit longer. But, I just tried using the voice dialer and it quickly got much easier. lol
I also wonder if the Accessibility application is the only one you are installing. Should I be installing something else to give me more functionality
Sorry for the long-winded questions but I really can't seem to find other assistance on this.
Thanks,
Jeremy Grandstaff

Hi Jeremy,
I think you will get the best answers to your questions on Google's eyes-free group (I'm not allowed to post outside links on this forum, or I would have given you the URL).
On that list many blind Android phone users report accessibility issues and workarounds, and the list is monitored by Google's Android accessibility developers. Android web accessibility is indeed still very limited, as is text editing support.
Best regards,
Posted my question also to the eyes-free group
Thanks for the reply. I did post my message to the Google eyes-free group, but felt I would get a fuller response here as well.

HTC Messaging jumping and keyboard shortcut

I don't know if anyone of you guys here have experienced screen jumping around the conversation thread while texting, but I've seen pretty much elsewhere. I haven't seen any similar thread around, so just to share it.
According to my interpretation, it is both a feature and a bug.
As for the feature part, the T, B and Backspace buttons are actually keyboard shortcut in a conversation thread. Once you've selected an sms with the trackpad, pressing T will get you to the top of the thread, vice versa for B and Backspace is for deleting.
What bugs me badly is that these things happen right when I was texting. Once or twice, I thought I was accidentally touching the trackpad, but considering my hand positioning and the cursor was still in the composing box when it happened, it was rather impossible.
It seems to be an universal Sense problem as well, since I came across this in multiple Sense Rom.
The best workaround I could come up with was to press B to get it back to the composing box, and use the trackpad to reposition the cursor. Nevertheless, it was still disruptive and annoying as hell.
Please share in the thread your experience/workaround/solution regarding this
Wish I could help more than to say you're not going nuts, it happens. it's incredibly annoying, i have no idea what does it. I don't use the roms that it happens in. If you like sense roms, but hate that try out myVision, I haven't seen that happen at all. Only downside I've found to myVision is the 'favs' crap that I'm amazed tmobile still tries to call a feature.
myVision is still in RC, that's the main reason why I still haven't tried it yet, but thanks for letting me know, will see how it works then
I think they only things keeping the dev from calling it complete are:
wants to add:
Will be adding 4-way reboot (when I figure out how to do it)
Will be editing updater-script so that you aren't just looking at a blank screen while it is installing (again when I figure out how to do it.)
And there is one bug:
HTC FM radio is not working on RC3.1 - working on a fix now.
I've been using it since for a few days now and have had no problems at all (I don't use the radio because I don't carry around headphones). It seems to get good battery life for a sense rom also. I think the only thing that could get me away from this rom is a Doubleshot rom with the lock screen app shortcuts like in Unity... couldn't hurt if it were updated to the newer doubleshot base either.
This is one of the many things that drives me away from Sense.
It's pretty, but I do 10,000 texts a month, and less than 100 minutes. So little things like this kill me.

Slow Dialer, Contacts and phonebook takes more tha 10 secs to load!!!! HELP

Just got my S$ upgraded to the lates version in my country which is 4.2.2 when I click on the dialer icon the screen freezes for 10 secs and it shows the numbers but when you press the numbers notheing happens and I guess when the program completely loads suddenly all the numbers pop up and aside from that whenever I type in a name in the messages or the contacts menu to look up someone to message or call it takes to long to load that my screen turns black and which I need to go back until I get the proper contact to be able to do some action with.... I know how to lenghten the time before it goes into energy saving mode or for screen to turn back but this is the exact problem I was staying away from since opting to get the Iphone 5... Since this has the best hardware as of the moment but to lag and freeze and sometimes even crash the phonebook or message app is ridiculous..... Sure you can do a lot of cool stuff but if it can't do this and the answer to my solution is to wait for an update just for a simple task of calling or messaging someone Samsung really brought out a half baked product. Hope you guys can help me with this because everytime I want to call or text someone I just do it on facebook a nokia 5110 would do better than this as far as calling and messaging.... Have they focused to much on the advanced features that they didn't fix the most basic elements of the phone. I had the HTC sensation, iphone 3 before that then this.. Since I'm into computers and pro open source I opted to stict with the android... but this is really pushing me to switch to Apple (who I hate but is really efficient at doing things its supposed to) or windows 8.
Help me with this problem so I don't give up on androids for my next phone I'd rather have a phone that is working lag free than the latest phone with the best specs that can't even do what it's supposed to do, basically reducing it to a bar of soap....

Hey this isn't an issue with the phone....its a problem with the update....there are a few things you can try out
1. Go to settings and go to application manager in the last tab....scroll to the 4th tab in the app manager...which is All.....and find your contact and contact storage apps.....clear their memory (note this will delete all your contacts....so backup) and retry accessing contacts as usual.
2. Usually the first step helps...if it doesn't... try to do a factory reset of your phone.....(This will delete all your app data....so backup)
3. You could also try to reflash the same firmware or a better update via odin.... Google and XDA are your friends so search the forums....there are many good tutorials.
4. Finally if you still feel like this isnt the answer...i suggest you to root your phone and install a new custom firmware....lots of good tutorials and roms on the XDA forums so check it out. If you dont know about rooting....approach with caution as this will void your warranty....
So try these out...hope it gave you some idea good luck!!

Guide To All Things Note 4 {WIP}

ALL THINGS NOTE 4!
INFO, NEWS, MODs, CHATTER!
COME AS YOU ARE AND PLAY BY THE RULES!
ROOT STATUS: We have obviously gained Temp Root gifted to us via KingRoot. Which comes with its own set of concerns on security, personal info, etc.. We currently have several devs working on making this "Perma-Root" We have already worked on getting rid of KingUser/KingRoot and replaced it with SuperSU. AWESOME! However with Write Protection enabled we are still unable to gain a Permanent Root Status. We lose root during a reboot which many of us know is needed by many root applications to function properly ie: XPOSED
I will be sure to update this post as soon as any changes or news comes out!
Please stay tuned! Thank You!
Alright ladies and gents! As you all know Temp Root is available through KingRoot. But that does come with its own set of risks and bugs.
Please use that at your own risk.
We have a way to get rid of KingRoot and utilize SuperSU thankfully!
If you have jumped ship from Kit Kat to Lollipop at this point root is only available on KK
Have no fear tho! Rolling back is a simple feat!
Here are your steps incase you are unaware.
1) Download N910VVRU1ANJ5 full firmware image https://www.dropbox.com/s/73ti6825921i7ld/N910VVRU1ANJ5_FullFirmware.tar.md5.7z?dl=0 via my DropBox account
2) Download Odin https://www.dropbox.com/s/89m7v5dgjspmxwx/Odin.zip?dl=0 via my DropBox account
3) Please backup any info on your device. No one is held responsible for your data except you!
4) Be sure all needed drivers are installed on your PC for your device
5) Fire up Odin and boot your device into download mode.
Either power down phone and once powered off press and hold Home+Vol Down+Power Button and release once it boots
or in an adb shell prompt enter "reboot download"
6) In Odin click the "AP" button and browse to the NJ5 image you downloaded and select open.
DO NOT CHECK OR UNCHECK ANY OPTIONS (AP WILL BE AUTO CHECKED ONCE YOU APPLY THE IMAGE)
Simply click start!
7) Once Odin has completed its work your phone will reboot. And yes your device will bootloop at the Verizon screen. You must pull the battery to stop this.
8) Once you re-install battery boot into Recovery (Home+Vol Up+Power)
arrow down to format data/factory reset
press power to confirm and select YES on the next screen
Once done Reboot your phone. And your BootLoop issue will no longer be.
CONGRATS! You are now back on Kit Kat and ready to root!
Please feel free to message me on hangouts: fredsinzjr
or on twitter: freddy0872
If you have anything you need help with or wish to discuss or just simply want to shoot the breeze!

I encourage you read this thread! If you go about installing Nova Launcher and following these steps there are a ton of features built into the settings that 1) are not enabled and 2) some of them work and some dont! SO you could easily turn on AirView and other like settings! Verified to work but just as the thread states some do now. The air gestures do function in apps such as Gallery and the like!

I feel having a well built and organized thread for all the info on roms and etc as they come around stickied would make life alot easier especially for alot of the new comers
Non-Root Workarounds
This is probably my favorite thread.
Non-Root Workarounds for the Note 4.
As a Verizon user who will probably never be able to root his phone, this thread is awesome!

Doesn't that put you in Download Mode?

Your correct if you are in fact powered off and then hold your buttons. Doing it this way you start your key combination while booted up and hold it thru the reboot until you see the menu.

Ok, got it. Thanks, now I understand the "through boot" comment. Not enough coffee this morning, LOL.

I'm sure everyone had noticed this, but it was a bit of a "good" shock to me. Action memo (the stand alone app) seems to be no more, and it's integrated in s note. I was and still am extremely annoyed because my old action memos, I had to "try" and find a way to export them. Now, thanks to a bright, but late light bulb, Samsung has finally made this sensible decision.
The interface is a little different than in previous versions to view your memos. Before, there was a list "button" next to the link to action button. But now you have to go to the options menu (the three dots on the right) and select the "view action memos list" option.
I noticed some stuff with screen shots also, but can't remember off the top of my head..

Yea the whole not having a physical menu button has driven me a little insane! I have the Tab S 8.4 so i was kind of prepared for the button change up but still seemed odd. Im growing accustomed to it. Maybe if its still an issue after we obtain root we can change the mapping of the physical buttons.
Added a link to a thread for the stock firmware images! Made by @hsbadr
Be sure to drop him a thank you for posting links up for us!
Were seeing the normal usual topics develop which is a good sign!
It was a little shock at first also for me, but I've actually adapted and like it better. The funny thing I realized almost immediately was that I never used that button much. So the long press to get the menu, but at the same time, the app drawer is cool..
Lol, I'm actually getting to the point I think where I don't want to root. It sounds really crazy for me, but I was talking to my lady today and telling her how smooth and much I'm enjoying this phone "just the way it is". I don't recall honestly being this satisfied in a few years.
We'll see, but I like it a ton dude! And I'm really in shock myself how much..

I couldn't agree more! To me root would purely be a nice benefit. Not so much a necessity. Of course I'd look forward to some themeing especially if we can get a rom much like Alliance. Just loaded down with customizations!
And of course getting getting rid of or freezing bloat would be nice!
Something I noticed today I've been able to get almost 2 days out of one charge. I don't get much usage while at work but today (yes it was a work day) it only lasted me about 14 hours. Big difference! Hoping the phone was just being needy and hitting up something to cause it to chew up battery. I'm going to install gsam and start paying attention to what's sucking it up.
Also has anyone gotten ballsy and tapped on the security update notification that pops up once and a while?

I concur to be honest.. And maybe I'm just getting old, but I primarily would want root would be to, like yourself, just remove apps. That's about it.. Lol.. Themes, Hmmnn, not so much anymore to be honest. Lol, really, I got a bit burned out on the 3 with roms. Honestly, if Eclipse had continued to be developed, I don't think I would have ever tried even alliance. But yes, the features are cool.
And I just posted in the battery thread, this thing is awesome! Not just for the longevity, but more important, the fast charging.. I'm probably either wishing for an in car fast charger(that would be my choice) or a second battery and external charger. Lol, just for accessories.. But I really, really do love this thing. They really did it right on this version, and I was really not excited for the regular note.
And then this thing is so damn fast that it's crazy.. Lol

No. Download mode is achieved by; holding Power/Volume down/Home buttons.

Doesn't matter if you do this through a restart or from a powered down state.
