[Q] Custom kernel Android 6 - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to ask if someone knows whether a custom kernel is about to be released. It has been shown for every nexus device that custom kernels can really boost performance (io scheduler, cpu-gpu governor). I just wonder why there is lack of custom kernels for nexus player which is the only nexus device where battery drain is of no concern!

adding ntfs and exfat support as well would be nice.

The best advice I have is to try whatever initially appeals to you and then keep trying different options until you are satisfied. Basically, there is no best ROM/kernel.
That said, my current favorite ROM is Paranoid Android and my favorite kernel is Trinity.
I'm also running the CRT animation put together by Krunk_Kracker here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1834637

I find the stock rom pretty turd so jumped onto paranoid android in tablet mode which makes this tablet actually look like a tablet
As far as kernels go I have settled down on motley kernel at 1.6 ghz, interactive gov, sio scheduler
Very smooth and smashes benchmarks
6700 in quadrant
13600 antutu

thanx for the advices
Try rom paranoid and faux123's kernel...

[Q] Which ROM to use?

I'm on a 16gig N7. I like simple ROMs, and I don't need insane functionality or 4Ghz P) OCs.
A mild OC is fine, but I'd like a faster ROM with some useful features.
Suggestions?
My recommendation would be to try ParanoidAndroid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912187 with Motley http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1937146 or Faux beta http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804374 kernels. You will get one of the best CM10-based ROMs for Nexus 7 with a unique option to switch DPI on a per-app basis and one of the best (overall performance/battery life) kernels.
Glazed JellyBean 2.0 by Hyperrunner for a nice smooth, stable daily driver ... just hit yesterday for 4.1.2 .... great ROM

[Q] Scroll stuttering and kernel question.

Hello world! My brother recently bought a Nexus 7. He unlocked it and did all sort of nasty things to it.
First of all, he installed latest CyanogenMod 10.1 nightly and changed the kernel to latest M-kernel.
When he slowly scrolls, there is stuttering (sometimes if you focus) and it's annoying. Is there any way to fix it?
Now for the kernel question. I want to show him a kernel like Siyah on Galaxy S 2 9100(I'm an S 2 owner) because this particular one provides stability and performance. Is there such kernel for the Nexus 7? (If you know about Siyah)
Thanks in advance guys!
P.S: The Google search I did was saying something about Google Currents, but it's not installed here.
BUMP! Come on guys, you can do better than that!
Both Franco kernel and Faux kernel are great. Franco's does not support overclocking, Faux does. The one I use is clocked at 1.4 - not too high, but it does make a difference. Smooth and stable.
Well, which one do you use? Care to mention?

M-Kernel mr1 easily seems like the best choice to me. Greatly improved performance with just slightly worse battery life (because of OC).
Any stability issues you encounter are likely a cause of the ROM you're using. Especially if you're using a nightly build.
The "stuttering" is either because of the hardware in the Nexus 7 or because of Android itself. I'm pretty sure you won't find a ROM or Kernel that removes that.
It's because there's a minimum scroll distance, that makes it look stuttery when you move your finger very small distances.
Scrolling with what app? Some always stutter.

New to the nexus family

Hello everyone, i just bought nexus 4 today came from SGS4 i9500 and been using the phone for the past couple of hours and i'm liking it a lot, very smooth and sexy lol.Anyways, like every android i get i go for custom roms, so as a new nexus member i have no idea what good roms, kernels to flash and would really appreciate it if someone can help me with this and sure any useful info about the phone ( like what the good/bad in nexus) i should know of as a nexus starter just let me know please, Thank you in advance.
Welcome to the family!
Franco kernel is a good choice to go with.
I don't know which ROM is good though since I like stock alot!

Hello dear Sir/Madam,
The decision was right, the Nexus 4 is an awesome device, suk it Samsung!
In my personal experience, best roms are Cyanogenmod nightlies 10.1/10.2 (10.2 if you want 4.3 base) and MIUI V5 (awesome theming capabilities). Best kernel, in terms of battery saving and performance is faux123 kernel. It allows you to enhance screen colors, ram usage and also undervolting control (which saves battery) with very smart cpu governor, enabling the full nexus 4 performance right when you need it! It also gives control over various other functions, such as gpu overclocking, giving even better graphic performance.

I been a samsung customer for so long and cant deny the fact that samsung are so good when it comes to mobiles but the galaxy S4 i9500 variant disappointed me a lot.Anyway i sure will try the kernel and the roms you suggested and see how it will go.(looking at the N4 dev threads , tons of custom roms and kernels which makes it not easy to decide what to flash lol )

It is generally a good advice to check the respective rom threads for the functions you require. Eg if you require a rom with pie control, check the rom thread for pie control on the feature list ( if there is one ). My own experience shows that most functions are not really needed, such as aforementioned pie control, that is just a comfort function, if at all. Most important function is Quiet Hours, which does not work on many roms, for whatever reason. Again, i can recommend MIUI V5 rom. It has awesome themes, you can even make your Nexus 4's OS look like an iPhone with IOS7! MIUI also features animated symbols, like the calendar or clock app. Their symbols change according to time/date. Same applies for the data usage icon. After you have set up your data plan's limit, the icon will update automatically, depending on your data usage.
I can suggest the pacman rom.
It's kinda paranoid android, aokp and cyanogenmod mashed into one

Welcome to the Nexus4 and Happy Flashing!
Thanks guys for all the help . i really appreciate it . I still have one question about the rooting method, i actually saw couple of methods on how to root N4 running android 4.2.2, well now after i upgraded to 4.3 im a bit lost on whats the best method to root N4, just wanna make it right and dont wanna ruin this lovely sweet phone lol.

[Q] Is anyone working on a Kernel for the SM-T530 and other Galaxy Tab 4 models?

When I bought my Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, I was kind of disappointed that there were no custom ROMs etc. I've been really happy with the various ROMs that have been in the works and I have thoroughly enjoyed the PAC ROM for the SM-T530. I am curious though if anyone is interested in or has started or attempted to make a custom kernel that allows us Tab 4 10.1 users some more control over our devices, aside from just being rooted. I'd love to be able to use more than "Power Save", "Performance", "Userspace" and "OnDemand" governors. I'd love voltage control and the CPU clocked up to the max stable level, because I feel the CPU is underclocked quite a bit. (maybe for a reason but I don't know).
Is anyone working on a custom kernel for the SM-T530 and SM-T530NU? Is there another way to overclock or add governors and other things or is flashing some sort of custom kernel the only way?
I'm guessing it's a highly difficult thing to do or someone would've created a kernel already. I feel like a lot of people probably have the skills but that they don't have the time and there are not enough of us who have the Tab 4 10.1. Hopefully someone will come out with something, that would be great.
A guy can dream right?
Cheers!
P.S- Much thanks to all those who are developing for the Tab 4 and all other devices! You are awesome.
There is a thread about this matter already in the Q&A section
