I can't seem to get the equalizer to make any difference in other than the stock Google music app. Have you any ideas?
What equalizer? I didn't realize the phone had one.
If your referring to the one in the settings of the Google play music app, yes it's app specific, it's a setting of the app, not the phone.

I think Android integrates AudioFX and its available for other apps to use.

What music player do you use? I haven't seen much that isn't too different from stock. I am using voodoo though, and its beast.

Since I listen to classical music and since google music re-arranges the tracks alphabetically I prefer Samsung's music application which has the folder play option. I would prefer google music if it had this option. On the other hand I mostly use my Cowon player and use Samsung for hands free.
EDIT: Sorry this was meant for SG SII
powreramp by a very long shot, not cheap but awesome.
Google Music Beta, but I would love to use my PlayerPro with Google's Cloud Service.
I hope Google will release an API.
poweramp for me for both my tab 10.1 & htc desire hd.
Whoa Google by a long shot..

Power Amp for local files, Google Music for the rest...and with the Tab, that pretty much means Google Music most of the time.
I have been using poweramp for over a year now and I've recently noticed that the pitch is lower on poweramp than on other applications such as the youtube app or the google play music player. Has anyone got any substitutes for poweramp?
Try Google music player.

vlc (still a little glitched but its the best for me).
What app do you use to listen to your music?
The reason I am asking is because I am trying to find a good player. I currently have Apollo, but it picks up every single audio file it can find on the phone and I cannot limit to use a single folder.
Google music and poweramp.

Poweramp seems to be pretty popular. Guess I will try it out.

Check out Gonemad Music Player, I've tried a lot and this suits me, you can browse by artist, album - and folder. All very easily, all the controls are intuitive. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gonemad.gmmp
For a slightly more off the wall approach, with very good audio, try Xenoamp http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822492

Xenoamp looks promising, but a bit much for what I need and the UI, in my opinion feels clunky as it is right now.
I think I will go with Poweramp. Seems to offer everything I need.

I've bought PowerAMP. It's a very good app, which is full of functions and a lot customisable. I think the best one!
Give a try to the free one and i'm sure you will buy it then!!

This isn't a Note 5 question. It is more an app wondering I have.
I have subscription to both service but the music quality is better on spotify. Does Spotify stream songs at at higher quality than Google play music does?

If you are using cellular then Google Play Music defaults to a lower quality stream than Spotify's "Automatic" setting. You can change the default streaming quality in the settings panel in each app.
What's Music Player and/or EQ are you using?
Looking to try new ones.
Power Amp as usual.

Pretty much the regulars like Shuttle+ and Phonograph. I also just use the stock EQ since I don't have crazy good earplugs or headphones, so why bother? I'm also not an audiophile, so yeah. PowerAMP is the solution if you want full control of the audio though.
- PowerAMP/PlayerPRO = If you want full control.
- Shuttle/Phonograph = If you care about design
- Spotify/Google Play Music/Apple Music = If you stream your music
I am just using the htc music app.
