So I got my phone a day ago and I was playing with it and decided to watch a YouTube video. Once I started watching it, I noticed it didn't seem like it was in stereo or the sound was off in some way. I tried covering the earpiece speaker and nothing changed as the volume. Weird, so I covered another one, and nothing. Turns out the audio is only coming from one speaker. Is anyone else having this problem or do I have a broken phone?
It only has one speaker. The right one. All are like that

Why they ruined design then with two holes?!

For me, not really. Asymmetric design (one hole on top and two on bottom) without real reason. Bottom bezel is also too big (to make space for vzw logo I guess), more than enough space for soft buttons.

Are you serious? There are two other speakers and only one works? The same speaker setup (sort of) as the Moto X and only one works?

Not two speaker, just one (but two holes) and that one (on the right hole) works
I didn't know that... Kinda disappointing
Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Yeah it's disappointing but the sound is pretty descent for just one speaker. The design just doesn't make sense.

Anyone has voice leakage problem during phone calls? Voice from the other side can be heard clearly by people around me...
How to fix this?
Um, turn the earpiece volume down...?

SO..it seems it's a problem with the Note and there's no way to really fix it (I don't mean ways to circumvent it)? Is it due to the long size of the speaker on top?
It sounds like it's due to the Note having a good volume band. If it's bugging you, turn it down. That's not really a work around is it? More of a choice, and which is a good thing I thought?

I really had to check it was not still April 1. I do not see a 'loud' speaker as a problem, as you can simply turn it down. I do not find my note to be too loud. If yoh are using a custom rom tben it might be the rom that is amplifying the sound.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
The speaker is not long at all. The grill is, but that makes little difference.
The real problem is that the phone is so damned thin! The ear-speaker happily blasts out of the back too.
What is irritating is that you still get the issue where if the grill is not well positioned against your ear you cannot hear well, even though everyone around you can
Turn!
It!
Down!
'nuff said.
No.. there is NO problem with the Note..
if people around you can hear it then would you not say that is a real obvious clue that you have the volume too loud..? turn it down...or.. get you one of these http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/7830/
problem solved.

My wife called me saying her iPhone headset doesn't work on her new gs3. I haven't had a chance to see her yet. Anyone know if this is true?
More than likely it is. Most iPhone headsets don't work. She doesn't like the included headphones with the gs3?

They are in ear noise cancelling and not safe to use while driving and uncomfortable fit for her ear. The stock iPhone ones are great or she just got used to them. She had the evo4g and they worked great so I know it's ot a droid thing

Aren't ANY headphones in your ear while driving not safe?
There are apparently two kind of wiring in the head phones. All headphone with mic connectors have four terminals, however the order they are wired up is different.
I know this for a fact because my captivate headsets did not work on my Sony X10.
In fact if you try to press and hold the accept call button on the headset while playing music you will realize that they quality of music suddenly improves.
Solution either get some different headset or get http://www.meelec.com/MEE_TRRS_Adapter_for_P_Version_Headphones_p/adptr-trrs-35.htm
The above product worked well from captivate => X10. I probably would in your case too

The iPhone headset will not fully work on the galaxy s note or s 3 because of how apple made their remote.they love to custom products for their products.(greed)

Was playing some music and noticed sounds only coming from one of the speakers on the bottom of the phone. Is one only a Mic? It's not dual speakers is it, cause I see no hole for the Mic.

Can't hold a candle to the HTC one but it is king when it comes to phones with only one speakers. Moto has always used great speakers in their devices. Now we just need to work on the camera but looking at the camera hardware it should just be a software issue.

Speaker sucks compared to my One. It's loud, but it's definitely not as nice as having two sweet ones pointing straight out from the front of the phone.

Agreed. The speaker is still great on the moto though. And I would take a small speaker with pretty loud and decent quality sound over the extra real estate the speakers on the htc one takes up.

Exactly, don't put two boom speakers on the top and the bottom and make the phone smaller.
Some sources says it does, other says it doesnt...
Does it has or not?
Louder or quieter than the Moto X Pure's?
It looks like there are two speakers on the bottom.

Posting on my turbo 2 and it has 1 loud front facing speaker on the bottom front.
There are 2 slots that look like a right left speaker setup but the left one is not a speaker and would guess its a mic
Correct. 1 speaker, not stereo.

Off the top of my head...
1. Because it adds cost
2. Because almost no one listens to/watches media with the phone in portrait mode anyway, and that is the only time that 2nd speaker would be useful
3. Because you get almost no real stereo separation with a 2nd speaker 1 inch away
Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
THANK YOU!
I thought I had a broken phone until I read this thread. I was playing around with stereo and it came out of one speaker and not the other. Was just out of my 2 weeks too. THANK YOU!

Ummm.... Because the speakers would both be on the bottom front, so the only way you would have stereo sound is if the phone was in portrait orientation. If the phone was in landscape, then both speakers would either be on the right or left therefore not stereo.

Stereo is stereo two speakers is stereo one is mono. Of course if they were at either end it would be better. You can't tell me two speakers wouldn't be better. And it wouldn't cost that much for a small speaker. As it is my only complaint is the volume is lacking on this phone at times.

Look up the definitions of stereo and stereophonic and you'll see your not actually right. Stereophonic sound requires being able to separate the source of the sound - which 2 speakers both on one side does not do. 2 speakers on one side is effectively just dual mono.
No argument that 2 speakers would likely be louder than one, though. Seems loud enough to me as is, but everyone has different needs.
Regardless though, it is a moot point. It has one speaker and will always have one speaker at this point.
