Lost App Icon badges ( came from Samsung Galaxy S6 edge) - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I came from SGS6 Edge and feel the frustration that I can't see the counter(Badge) on apps like Gmail, WhatsApp etc.
Does anyone feel the pain and have alternatives.
I tried nova & apex but didn't like them.
Thanks,
Maggie

Nova works fine.

Try buzz launcher.

Im going to bump this thread because I am seriously frusterated...
I honest cannot believe there is no way of telling how many texts, emails, snapchats, etc I have until I open each app individually? Seriously, how do you guys live like that haha. I thought id give android another chance for like the 4th time now and with this Nexus 6P i was super excited, but how on earth am I supposed to use a phone and never be able to know if I have a single notification... f*ck gonna have to go back to an iPhone again if I cant sort this? There is no rom I can flash to enable badges like in previous versions of android maybe? My old s6 and my buddies brand new Sony dont have this problem wtf Nexus...

I use Nova Launcher with TeslaUnread. TeslaUnread allows customizing the badge displayed on app icons. I've been using this combo for years.

This..... every single day... just works

I am currently using it but it does not give any options for badges on apps lkke fb messenger or Snapchat?

Never mind I see now how to select more apps. It's just lame because I usually just swipe away notifications because they are in the way and that renders them as read and it's confusing because I just didn't want them in my way when I'm reading or gaming for example

Yea, I can understand that. This is stock Android though and I don't believe that's been native before, which is fine. At least with this setup, you get what you want depending on the app. I don't use Snapchat or FB Messenger so idk their behavior with this. For me, badges display for Gmail and Messenger (texts) even if I swipe away the notification.

Nexus 6P has basic android installed. The way it works for Google, notifications show up on top. That's why they didn't mind making a notification badge.

I use Notifyer+ and it works great!

This has to be a troll thread.
Every single notification you get shows up in your notification bar. If you're swiping them away without replying and then forgetting you have notifications, that is a user problem....not an Android problem.:fingers-crossed:

I use Nova Launcher with TeslaUnread. I wasn't using those before last week and still manage all my notifications super well. TeslaUnread can be configured per app for those notifications you are asking.

Why post if you have nothing helpful to say nor can you see why this would be an issue for some people? Some OEM's have this out of the box on their phones. Stock Android does not. I prefer to see the number of unread texts, emails, or calls on their respective apps so I can make sure to check them when I can at work. My mentality is, why keep a cluttered status bar/notification tray? This makes incoming messages more difficult to see.

Facebook notifications

When I first got my Evo, the notifications worked. Now they don't. I came from a bb and when I heard the facebook app got reworked it made it a little easier to make the switch. Now I am not a facebook crazy teenager, I am in the military and I use it to talk to friends over seas. Sometimes the notifications can mean if I get to talk to a good friend or not . Is this a facebook issue or an Evo thing. What's weird is that my wife has an Evo too and it works for her phone. But I seem to read that it conflicts with sense. Is this a myth, or is there some fact behind this. As I am typing this I am running CM7, if that makes a difference.

Facebook notifications = epic fail... sometimes they work... most of the time they don't. Blame facebook..
Facebook = Epic Fail
Facebook for android in itself is worthless. The notifications work every now and then but they still havent added real notifications for things like comments and likes.
They've never worked for me, but I have facebook setup to send me email for the notifications I want... and my Evo gets those emails instantly. Seems like a good solution.. works great for me, anyway.
What he said^ f#%* the notification, just wait for the email. :/
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
If you really need notifications, I suggest using Flow from the market.

Thx guys. I appreciate the replies. There is always the chance a post like this turns into instant flaming, but I am glad that didn't happen. Thx for the insight. I just wanted to make sure that there want something I couldn't do as far as the setup side of the app that I was perhaps missing. Thx again.

U can also have the notifications sent to u as text. Works the same for me.
I used to use a beta of bloo when I had the Moment. But that was hit or miss as well. But at that time it was way better than the facebook app that was available.

Flow is way better IMO especially since you can set it up now for push notifications.
Going to check out Flow. I wonder why Facebook just doesn't utilize this as notifications without getting Gmail notifications all the time.
Check out my black social apps. The notifications work at times but at least the colors and icons look good
Ok...I am looking at how to set this up, and unless I am reading this wrong, isn't my inbox going to get flooded with facebook emails? Right now I have them archived, and for that specific reason.

Pretty much... or if you choose texts its going to get annoying as hell after a while which is exactly why I dont do it.

ud get the same thing if u were getting notifications from the facebook app itself just not in email or by text. plus u can choose what u want to get. i only get when someone writes on my wall, sends a message, comments on a photo, or comments on a status i put out there and i use facebook alot and dont get a ton of texts. alot of the time it stays in the same thread for my text
This is partially true. For Flow to work the email has to be sent to the inbox. For the facebook app, I can have them archived and still get the notification.

Where can you find "flow "? I did a market search but didn't come up with anything..

Have a question about new Hangout and SMS feautre

So I was all excited about it, the new Hangout and today I installed it. Now let me get this straight, the SMS feature, that will just replace my native messaging app and I will be sending SMS via Hangout instead of my native app, and it will be sent normally via my carrier. I mean why on earth would one use this feature? What am I missing here? What's the point?
Same here... In my case the most annpying thing is that it doewnt allow to cuztomize who shows and who doesnt, i have now a lot of people that i dont care just for following them on g+...
Nah... Uninstalling

Yeah exactly. If iPhone 5C is the most ridiculous device of this planet, then this so called 'upgrade' of G-Talk to Hangout is the most ridiculous software update ever made
God I am so happy I kept Talk's backup in several places.:victory:

Are you guys using Hangouts for your messaging app?

I'm assuming hangouts is now the best out there, now that google incorporated it.
What are you guys using?
Nope

Not quite sure how you came to that conclusion. I am going to try just using the default messaging app for now.
I did with my last phone. But not with this one. I don't like the same pic for different ways to chat with the same person.

Hmmm.. because it makes things 100 times easier. You can text from your phone, get home or at work and continue right from your computer.
It was googles answer to Imessage for the Gphone.
Also has video calling RIGHT from the app, no need to switch and hope the other person has something installed

I've gone back and forth, Hangouts sometimes takes a while to launch which annoys me since I drive all day for work and like to respond to texts at stoplights. I've just enabled ART so maybe I will see better performance.
As for texting on my other devices I've been using Mighty Text on PC, Nexus 7 and phone for a while. It is ok but reading a text on PC or Tablet does not clear it from the phone, I never tried Hangouts on the other ones.

OK we were at cross purposes, I thought you meant are we using Hangouts as our SMS app. Is it the best? Down to personal choice. I mostly use Facebook since that's what most of my family are on. I have some people on Hangouts but the main person I speak to on Hangouts I have spoken to for years, originally on MSN and then gTalk so now Hangouts.
Er... no. I find EvolveSMS much better, completely uninstalled hangouts from phone. ..
I tried using Hangout. I did enjoy it, however, am using new app and am much enjoying it.

Do you use the Edge panel?

Do you use the Edge panel or do you have it disabled? Maybe you have it Enabled but found you don't use it. or did you disable it straight away but you didn't think you'd use it.
I enabled it for 2 days but found I wasn't using it so I disabled it. However, I'm thinking of re-enabling it and trying to get used to using it, I think I wasn't using it because I'm not used to it so I might just give it another try.
Yes I do: helps reduce my home screen clutter.

It was definitely one of those features that you go "meh, sounds like a silly gimmick" but after spending some time configuring it to taste I have changed my POV to "hmm, this actually may be a useful addition to the UX" ... we shall see, only had the device 36 hours after all.

I may give that a try myself.
I use it because I use themer and want quick access to all my apps. I don't like scrolling the app drawer either so I keep the edge on with categorize folders. This is my homescreen and the app edge.
I use it when I want to pull up an app while I'm already in another app. Saves me from going home and looking for it.
I have an S6 Edge+ (still no mm ;-; ) and rarely use it. Maybe the updated panel will push me to use it, who knows

Just a tip, remove all the apps from the edge and start adding apps one by one but keep categories in mind. Some apps don't really have categories but the more you make you'll find a place for them. You can also change the color of the folder in the upper right when the folder is created.

Someone said it appeared randomly. So maybe it's a server side change? In that case all we can do is wait. For now it's available on only a couple of Handsets including the Pocophone.
