What is it ?
EAP-SIM is an authentication protocol that allows your device to connect to a wifi (which is setup as such) using sim credentials.
I've been looking on internet if the latest nexus device was supporting this feature, but I did not found any mention to it.
I finally received my device and I was so surprised to see that the Nexus 5x DOES SUPPORT this WiFi authentication method.
So, all freemobile (french network operator) clients would be able to enjoy it and get automatic connexion to FreeWifi_secure
Bousqi.

The application has not yet been updated to consider the nexus 5x has EAP-SIM compatible (in notified this issue to Free).
You have to do it by yourself from wifi settings. You select FreeWifi_Secure, pick EAP, and SIM method. Next the smartphone will automatically connect.
It might happen that sometimes the connection fails, but this is usual with FreeWifi_Secure networks. Just try later or elsewhere.
Oh... Yes !
I should have thought about it !
Thanks a lot. It works.
Has anyone had this functionality break with the March security update? I'm not using a Nexus 5X, but can no longer successfully authenticate with FreeWifi_Secure using my Nexus 6P running MHC19I . There is an AOSP bug open about this here:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=203973 and one of the comments indicates that the same is true with MHC19J on the Nexus 5X.
interesting comment, I do have a nexus 5x and it was working before March update. It appears that every time I try to connect to FreeWifi_secure it fails.
Sometimes I get an : Authentication problem.
I'll try again later because I already notice with previous versions that connection requires a lot of tries.
I'm also on the Nexus 5X and I can confirm that the march update broke EAP authentication... Bummer :/
Same bug here. FreeWifi_secure not working. Always Auth error...

Same here. UK O2 WiFi Extra. March security update broke EAP SIM.
You guys are confirming what I noticed, and why I came looking for it here : March Security patch broke EAP SIM =(
Changelog for April's update is available here :
http://www.androidpolice.com/androi..._r22-to-android-6.0.1_r24-AOSP-changelog.html
In a section, EAP SIM is mentioned so there is a great chance that this feature will be fixed with upcoming April's update.
Let's wait and see...
I am running april patch and still broken
same result on my side, April's update and EAP is still broken. ?

(tested on FreeWifi_Secure, since it is the only one I can access with my carrier)
So good to finally get the EAP SIM back... enjoy it, Google might revert their fix on next security update ?
Hey guys !
A quick word to confirm eap-sim IS STILL WORKING on Android 7.0 NRD90M !
Enjoy !

I bought a HTC INC2 from a guy last week. It is unlocked so it works perfectly with my ATT sim and I managed to get 2G running. Then I checked the GPS, Camera and so on, everything looks fine until I wen back to home. Because there is no Wifi network in my work place so I didn't find the wifi seems not working. The phone cannot found any wireless network at all. I am sure I made the ssid is broadcasting. I was thought it probably not happy with my wireless router so I closed all security setting. But the phone still cannot find the open network. So I drove to our library where have public wireless access, still nothing. On my way back, I use my other phone as a hotspot, nothing happened even I put two phone together.
Here is a list of things I did in next couple days, went to a office building which hosted a lot of company. Almost all of these company have some sort of wireless network, my other phone in my right hand can found at least 10 networks while the INC2 which in my left hand can find none. I flashed the ROM to CM7, nothing. update radio, nothing.
Flashed to skyrider, nothing. update radio, nothing...
The guy who sold me the phone said the wifi is working perfectly when he is using it with verizon. He updated to iPhone month before so he didn't notice if the phone stop work with wifi after his update. He seems to me a honest guy.....
Now I want to test if the wifi hardware works. I really want to learn something from this frustrating thing. any idea?
TIA
Probably the wifi is not working. I do not own a HTC INC2 but can flash another radio/modem/wifi driver?
Also there is a hidden menu called Field Test Mode. It may have something about wifi. From wikipedia:
There is a hidden "testing" menu on the device that can be accessed by typing *#*#4636#*#* aka *#*#info#*#* on the phone's keypad. It will bring up 5 categories: Phone Information, Battery Information, Battery History, Usage Statistics, and WiFi information.
Other hidden menus from dial pad: (1) ##debug+call, (2) ##program+call enter six zeros example: 000000, (3) *#*#7262626#*#* - Field test menu, (4) *#*#2432546#*#* aka *#*#checkin#*#* - checks for updates, (5) ##778 (+call for Epst menu), (6) *#*#8255#*#* - Gtalk service, (7) *#*#8351#*#* - voice dialer logging enable, (8) *#*#8350#*#* - voice dialer logging disable

Hi!
I saw that a lot of people have trouble with secured wifi/router! Wifi is connected, full signal, but when u go on internet, internet connection is very slow,or it says "that there's no internet connection" . I found one easy solution:
1. Go to router page (mine is: 192.168.2.1)
2. Enter Username / Password (Default: user/user or. admin/1234 ...)
3. Go to wireless security settings and tick WPA(TKIP) or WPA2(AES+TKIP) --> MIXED option in my router settings .
4. Ok
5. Router will restart.
6. Forgot old wifi network and connect to new one.
7. Enjoy!
My wifi is now faster too!

I have tested it,for works like a charm. It loads google home page and google store in 1-2 seconds, before I change settings it loads in 10 seconds or It didn't load!
I found solution, because on new iPhone 5 was same problem with wifi like on our x8:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uh7RbtqLMzM&feature=player_embedded
I can confirm, this works
Oh bro, what an idea. I never thought it could be solved like that...even mine's google loads in about 10 seconds... and i thought browsing on the X8 would be always the last option...
Thanks for the useful post :good:

Well i have a 50% similar problem.. On stock my X8 don't even show my router name(Time_Machine) in WiFi settings.
But on GB it shows the network and works perfectly.
I repaired it with Update service.
Any idea where the problem is ?
No difference on ics , maybe cause it's accelerated the hardware
Tnx anyways

Sorry for answering on such old post. Used this solution with my Xperia Z3 (D6603). It connected, but had no internet (also reported it). Set it to mixed, and it works now! Wow, who could have thought such an solution would work...

Hey,
I'm using OnePlus 2 with Oxygen OS 2.1.0 stock. I have a Vodafone SIM in slot 1 and an empty sim 2 slot.
I noticed the carrier name is wrongly displayed as Airtel instead of Vodafone IN.
Anybody else have this issue?
I had this issue with AT&T and T-Mobile. Both would say AT&T. That was when I had the T-Mobile in slot 1 and AT&T in slot 2. Switched the SIM cards and it displays properly now. Not sure why. Figured it was a software bug.
My phone does the same, instead of T-Mobile pl it shows polkom or something like that. And it's like that for every other carriers when I check in the settings. Factory resets didn't help so I just live with it. It's not a big deal.
Thanks Guys. Good to know I'm not the only person having this issue . Yes this looks like a bug. I thought yesterday update to Oxygenos 2.1.1 would fix it. But nevertheless hopefully somebody from oneplus is looking into this.
Also have France Telecom (F) instead of Proximus (B) :silly:
Do you guys, have a optable.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/ ? Looks like one of the file necessary to get carriers names, but I do not find it on my phone.

1 thing I did noticed that, if I'm in different place (my workplace), it shows the correct carrier. Is this something to do with the Towers that are available in the area? If yes, then why it didn't become Roaming?
This appears to also happen if your phone switches to a band your mobile network uses a different provider for. I'm with 3UK and they use Orange's 2G network, so Orange appears if my phone drops to a 2G/GSM signal.

I got scared when I installed the update and calls had no audio (earpiece nor speaker). A reboot fixed that issue.

Yeah, same old story from them
I don't even have anymore expectations about the updates. The phone is already dead and Android One was basically a scam with no benefits over customized Android distributions.
Fortunatelly next month I will be getting a new phone.
There are network related issues with this update.
As soon as my phone switch to 4G+ (automatically) from 4G then Wi-Fi gets disconnected!! And phone won't try to connect with Wi-Fi. Then if i try to connect with saved Wi-Fi network manually, it won't connect!! If phone switch to 4G (automatically) from 4G+ then phone will connect with WiFi and internet data works as normal. I think 4G+ and WiFi dont work same time. Only one thing can work at a time. Still I'm not able to figure out this issue.
Another issue is, getting no call notification on screen. So one friend told me that he has tried to call me but I wasn't answering, and I was like I haven't received any calls as nothing in call logs too!! Upon this information, I've tried to call my number from another phone and he was right. No call notification appears on the screen, not even missed call log in Phone app. I've figured out solution to this problem tho. Disable WiFi Calling is the current solution. In Google's Phone app go into settings > calling account > select your network name and disable WiFi Calling for that network.
Before installing this update 4G+, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Calling everything was working smoothly. I'm afraid if they won't fix these issues then it will be a parmanent problem as not sure how many security updates left as part of Android One.

Just updated last night, the AOD issue introduced in F.42 was fixed.
Hope this becomes available for Europe soon!
In which country (or countries) has this update been released? Have you downloaded it locally/OTA or from a different area using a VPN?
UPpete
But still no fix for watching hd videos & tv series on prime video.
YouTube can play HDR, so that means the device is no longer the problem
Anyone else got the update? Which country did you get it from?
India
There is a problem we can watch hd videos on YouTube but not on Amazon prime videos as it requires widevine L1 certification which was part of android 10 based on Color os 7.1 but on android 11 based in color os 11.1 they degraded it to L3 security.. which no longer supports hd videos.
That's the real problem which oppo is not fixing with OTA updates.
I am done with this oppo now, will switch to other brand next.
